WORLDWIDE AND WORLD-ENDING WOLVERINE! Ethan Sacks and Garry Brown weave a fable from days long past of a boogeyman in the Canadian wilderness…one that might have a connection to our LOGAN! Giuseppe Camuncoli tells a two-sided tale, back when Logan was known as PATCH! Then Logan’s healing factor has kept him alive beyond his years, but as the last mutant standing, what does he fight for? Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Piotr Kowalski have the answer! Don’t miss these revelatory stories, brutal and raw in their black, white & red form!
Ethan Sacks is a writer and journalist from New York, who is currently writing the ongoing series Star Wars- Bounty Hunters for Marvel as well as other various Star Wars titles. He is also know for his Marvel works that take place in the iconic Old Man Logan wasteland, Old Man Hawkeye and Old Man Quill.
Placing the violence down for a moment, the final leg of “Logan: Black, White, & Blood” fixates on a long life being lived and how that must inherently coincide with seeing a few extraordinary events. Whether it’s local vampire-esque monsters in Sacks and Brown’s “The Monster in the Dark” or Camuncoli and Petit's "Kintsugi,” Logan is battling unnatural forces as an unnatural force himself. Both fun and tickling the genre-mashup fancy, even if these two aren’t seen through completely. Johnson and Kowalski's "End of Days" stands out, however. A story in which Earth has become a barren wasteland, and frozen Wolverine is still alive, repeating old habits. His mind lost to time, and his body functioning on instinct alone, it’s a wonderful little tidbit of doing a lot with little. The art is textured and gritty, and Johnson crafts a story that reminds us of one of Logan’s less-visited pathos. He is a man destined to die alone, cursed and forsaken, withering away to watch the earth itself crumble. A tragedy of endurance for a man who can’t die. There’s something powerful about that reality, and it’s brilliant work, even if the rest of the issue is more standard fare.
a disappointing ending to this mini series. this series peaked at issue 1 despite 2 being good still. this gets a good rating because the artwork is still fantastic.
