Firstly… the mouth on that man 🥵 Roman can do no wrong. Every word out of his mouth had me swooning, blushing, and completely hooked from the start.
I absolutely loved Wreck the Waves. This book had so much heart packed into it, and the emotional depth truly surprised me. It wasn’t just a romance — it felt real, raw, and full of soul. Mase toward the end completely broke me. I could feel his pain so intensely that I actually ended up shedding a tear.
And excuse me… what the hell was that twist?! I did NOT see that coming at all. My jaw was on the floor, and I’m still thinking about it.
Between the swoon-worthy moments, the emotional gut punches, and that wild twist, this book had me fully invested from start to finish. I’m already so excited to read about the other characters next — if their stories hit even half as hard, I’m in for an amazing ride 🌊💙

When Alexis said she was going to write a brother’s best friend romance, I was already sold and Wreck the Waves absolutely delivered.
Alexis’ writing style is so enjoyable; you read it the way you drink a glass of water, effortlessly and without even realising how fast you’re going. From the very first moment, there was tension and banter. I was already giggling in chapter one, but at the same time, I deeply empathised with Lola and her trauma.
Lola is fierce and determined to handle everything on her own (which I understand very well). Some things aren’t fully revealed in the story, and I’ve seen this described as miscommunication in other reviews, but honestly? I completely understood why Lola kept certain things to herself. Her choices made emotional sense to me.
Roman though… 🥵 I loved how he wanted Lola to be exactly who she is, wild, bratty, and sometimes a little impulsive. His protectiveness and possessiveness? Perfection. Roman has my whole heart.
The only reason this isn’t a full 5-star read for me is because I kind of guessed the plot. In my defence, I read all six books in the Sparrow Falls series by Catherine Cowles this year, so I’m basically trained to suspect the people you least expect to be involved 😂.
That said, Alexis absolutely SLAYED once again. Wreck the Waves was emotional, swoony, and impossible to put down and I can’t wait for what she writes next!!!

Going into this after reading the Of Mine series, I wasn’t entirely sure how I was going to feel about it; but I’m so glad I took the chance because this book completely proved my doubts wrong. At its core, this was such a cute, fun read that pulled me in far more than I expected.
ꕀ “I turn to face her like I’m a compass and Lola’s my true north.” ♥
Lola was an incredibly relatable FMC. Her determination to prove that she’d grown up and could handle herself, especially in the face of constant doubt from the people around her, felt very real. Considering everything she’d already been through, her strength and resilience were genuinely admirable. I also loved how supportive Roman was of her, particularly the way he stood up to her family on her behalf without hesitation. That dynamic added so much warmth to their relationship.
♥ “Forget beating up the ocean, I want to beat up the whole world for the things it’s done to Lola.” ꕀ
The romance itself struck a great balance. Once Lola and Roman admitted their feelings, the spice definitely brought the heat, and there was a generous amount of it, but it never overshadowed the story. Instead, it complemented the emotional development and kept everything feeling grounded. And yes…that ladder scene? I don’t think I’ll ever look at ladders the same way again. Roman absolutely lives rent-free in my head because of it.

I also really enjoyed the dash of romantic suspense woven throughout the book. It kept the pages turning, and while I didn’t see the final twist coming at the time, in hindsight I’m not sure how I missed it. There were still a few lingering questions once the story wrapped up, which left me slightly confused on a couple of points, but it didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment.

The little snippets at the start of each chapter, whether flashbacks or glimpses into other characters, were a nice touch and added depth without slowing the pace. And speaking of other characters, I am desperate for Mase’s book…Jarred’s too. Both of them were so intriguing here that I’m already counting down to their stories. At the end of the day, this book just reaffirmed what I already know: if Alexis writes it, I’m reading it.

This is my first ever Alexis Grace book, and I don’t know why, because this was a masterpiece. The storyline, the tension, the suspense, Roman, the small-town vibes — I loved everything about it!
I feel for Lola, she’s been dealt a wrong hand. The way her family treats her, my heart hurts for her 🥺 But the way Roman has her back heals something in me at the same time.
I love the friendships throughout this book, the brotherhood of Mase and Roman was the absolute best.
The beginning parts of each chapter were so fun to gain some insight into the past without needing the whole story. This was so fun and nice.
I was already planning to rate this book 5 stars, but the ending, phew, this changed my 5-star rating to 5+ stars. I don’t care that it isn’t possible.
The last thing I want to add: Roman is amazing, an English snack and I love him

With this book starts a new (and completely different) series by Alexis and I am so excited. I loved the Of Mine series and while this is a complete one eighty to that, I absolutely adored it!
We get small town, brother's best friend, childhood crush and so much more from Lola and Roman. Lola went through so much before she left and even after she returned it was far from smooth sailing. Enter Roman, always there to help her- and save her.
While their ending was slightly predictable, it wasn't any less beautiful. I absolutely adored these two and cannot wait what else Pine Rock will bring us! ✨

This book was so good!! Such a cute, brother’s best friend, age gap romance with some heavier/darker themes throughout. I loved Lola and her resilience & strength, and I looooovveeeddd how sweet & caring Roman was. He also has a dirty mouth 🥵
The plot was good and the spice was spicy but not overbearing. Chapter 21?? Had me screaming, giggling & kicking my feet! I’m wanting more from the side characters… specifically Mase & Jarred 👀 can’t wait to see what else Alexis has in store for us in her Pine Rock world ✨ now I’m going to make some APPLE FRIES 🍎

Who doesn't want to get railed against a ladder by a dirty-mouthed rancher who's also their brother's best-friend? 👀
First of all, a huge thank you to the author and Grey's Promotion for sending me this ARC. If it wasn't already clear before, I can now safely say that if Alexis Grace writes it, I'll read it. Naturally, this was different from the Of Mine series, but no less fun.
In this romantic suspense, things are not as they seem. With brief flashbacks interwoven throughout the story, we get to build our own picture of the past and the characters' shared history. These glimpses offer a deeper insight into their relationship, and although some are quite sad - definitely check the trigger warnings before reading - there are also plenty fun ones.
Alexis' writing is, as always, captivating. Add to that the seaside setting and the beautiful worldbuilding, and you're immediately filled with a deep longing for the coffee shop, the apple orchard and the quaint small town this story is set in 🌊
Now onto the romance - my favourite part. There's loads of banter and tension between Lola and Roman. Not only is there the issue of Roman being her brother's best-friend, but there's also a seven-year age gap. Still, they want each other. Countless times I found myself giggling at their interactions or clutching my pearls because they made me so damn anxious. This book made me - odd as it may sound, especially considering the triggers - unbelievably happy 🤭
Another treat was Roman's possessiveness. I love my men possessive, and the mouth on that man? Good Lord! Jealousy can be so hot when done right - and it absolutely is here. I've already mentioned it, but I fear I'll have to say it again: the scene with the ladder? Sold. Immediately sold!
Absolutely cannot wait to revisit Pine Rock with Jarred's book!!

Ohhhh my freaking gawd, you guys. I DEVOURED this book in under 24 hours and I’m still not okay.
This story is stacked with all my favorite tropes: found family, possessive MMC, fiery, strong-willed FMC, and the best friend’s brother trope (insert unhinged giddy scream here). The yearning and tension had me actually sweating—every look, every almost-touch, every charged moment just ate. I connected with these characters so deeply it felt like I was living inside their story. The plot was PLOTTING, the pacing never let up, and that twist at the end? Never saw it coming.
And her nickname—Firebird. She gets it at fifteen after burning down a barn… but when you find out why he actually calls her Firebird? 🫠 Absolute, feral, heart-melting swoon.
Now let’s talk about the SPICE. 😮💨

I fell in love with Alexis Grace’s Of Mine series earlier this year and its lived rent free in my head ever since! When the opportunity struck to sign up to become an ARC reader for her newest small town series, I was there in a millisecond and beyond grateful to be chosen as it is my first time ever receiving an ARC copy! I was over the moon with excitement!
Wreck the Waves held me captive from just the dedication page, truly speaking to my soul! I was only more hooked from the first chapter with the ice cream cart scene that made me gasp out loud and kicking my feet with glee under my cozy blanket! Roman is everything you’d want in your fictional man as a sexy rancher, plant daddy, brat tamer, and fellow bookworm! If that wasn’t all, the YEARNING for six years after his best friend’s sister would do it! Lola is just as lovable with her dream of owning a coffee shop in her home town and a heart of steel to achieve her goal! I loved my first visit to Pine Rock with Lola & Roman, and very much looking forward to the next!

Finally a bookstagram recommendation that worked out for me! This had everything I love in a small town romance, MCs with a history, quirky townspeople, found family, coziness and a little suspense side plot. And let’s not forget the scorching spice! Roman was super possessive and obsessed with Lola, I just wish he had acted on these feelings sooner ;-) I loved how strong Lola was and how she overcame the unthinkable.
Was it a literary work of art? No. Was it just what I was craving? Yes! I’ll be looking into more work by this author!
Safety:
- No OW (H’s ex also lives in the small town, but he never really loved her and she even encourages him to ‘finally’ go after h. No drama whatsoever!)
- OM: The villain wants h for himself. There are also a few former hook ups of h in the small town, but the ydon’t cause any drama whatsoever. I’m glad the h seems more experienced than the H!
- No cheating
- No separation / no real third act break up (H gives h a few hours of ‘space’, but never broken up)
- Deals with rape and sexual assault.

When I saw Alexis was starting a new series, I jumped on this ARC opportunity. Her story composition always feels so complete; a strong theme, complex, well fleshed out characters, multiple conflicts, a setting that actively supports the story, and a winning plot structure. Wreck the Waves is no exception. The narrative flows. The pacing is perfect. Our main characters, Lola and Roman, are flawed and lovable. Lola's experience being a disappointment and not being good enough was depicted realistically (painfully so). I enjoyed the different parental relationships - pseudo father to toxic. There are great side characters and a nice set up for the continuation of the series. Did I mention Alexis really knows how to write spice? A+

This is the first in a new series, and this is Lola and Roman’s story.
Roman was Lola’s secrets crush and kryptonite growing up, and after 6-years away, Lola returns to her hometown determined to open a successful coffee shop, avoid Roman, and prove her family wrong about her making bad decisions. The past comes back to haunt Lola as someone is not happy that she is back in Pine Rock.
This is a well written story which has family, friendships, emotions, tension, intrigue, suspense, determination, dirty talking rancher, seaside vibes, challenges, humour, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, small-town romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Roman was Lola’s secrets crush and kryptonite growing up, and after 6-years away, Lola returns to her hometown determined to open a successful coffee shop, avoid Roman, and prove her family wrong about her making bad decisions. The past comes back to haunt Lola as someone is not happy that she is back in Pine Rock.

This was my first book by Alexis Grace and for sure it won't be my last!
As soon as I've read the blurb I knew I had to have it. Brother's best friend with smalltown setting? Sign me up! And Wreck The Waves did not disappoint.
Roman and Lola's story is sprinkled with longing, tension, spice and a hint of suspense. I loved their vibe and chemistry. I was sold right from the beginning, that these two were a match made in heaven. I loved Lola's character development and how Roman was with her along the way. His support never wavered and he was her rock ever since they met.
I also adored a lot of the side characters and I can't wait to read their stories, coming back to Pine Rock!

This is my first book by Alexis and I can’t wait to read the next in this series. The storyline really captured my attention with the suspense and tension. And Roman, he is a great MMC with his English accent and the way he pulls through for Lola.

I was obsessed with the authors other series so I when I found out she as doing a small town romance I was SO happy.
Roman & Lola are literally EVERYTHING, they stole my whole heart.
Both healing from trauma, both past and present and a lifetime of regrets BUT in every lifetime they belong to each other.
This story really was the perfect small town romance with an added edge of suspense running through the story which I loved!.
I can't wait for the next book in the series.

This was a great read, I got invested off the bat and definitely did not see the twist coming at the end. Roman’s love for Lola was fierce as he shows her she’s deserving of it despite her belief her wild past means she isn’t. I’m exited to see what happens in Pine Rock next.

A stalker, a junkie, and a business man all try to destroy a coffee bar… but Lola and Roman face it together.
There were some continuity issues, but overall I am really loving this new series from Alexis and I can’t wait to read some of the other stories.

This book is sunshine. Along with some suspense BUT i was toooooo hapy reading this.
The book follows Lola, a past wild child. Nobody seems to ever take her seriously because in her youth she was reckless. She leaves her small seaside town behind after an 'incident' that happened to go travelling. She had enough of everyone and everything, so she took herself off. She went to find herseld and prove to people she was ok on her own.
Until she decides to return and buy a wreck of a building and turn it into her own coffee shop 😂
As she expected, her family told her she was being irrational and that she had no clue what she got herself in to but that wasn't stopping her, if anything it made her more determind to make this work, despite secrets slowly coming out. Not everyone was happy that Lola was back in town 👀
THEN we meet Roman. Roman, Roman, Roman. 🔥 Her childhood friend, her brothers best friend and her childbood crush. The one she never moved on from. The one she thought didn't ever feel the same way, until she found out otherwise 😍
Roman is completely shocked and overwhelemed by Lolas return. He doesn't know the right things to say or how to act around her. All feelings from the past came rushing back. All he knew is, he did NOT like the way Lolas family were dismissing her dream. He stood up for her every. single. time !!!!!!!
After Lola has been in town a while, she starts recieving some threatening texts. She is almost 100% sure she knows who it is from her past. She keeps ignoring them, until things start happening that are more than texts. She tells Roman and obviously, he can't hide his feelings anymore and goes above and beyond to keep her safe, but is it enough?
The book follows Lola & Romans romantic journey as they try navigate the new life. There is MANY curv balls thrown at them but it doesn't stop them.
Sooooo, i thought i had the stalker figured out. I thought i 100% knew. Nope, nope i was wrong. SO WRONG 😂 The plot twist at the end had my jaw on the floor. I was thinking SURELY EFFING NOT 😂

Lolas character development and growth in book was such a pleasure to read. She goes from not really believing in herself at all, to completely flurishing as a person and it's honestly so good to read. I wanted to cry happy tears so many times in the book. Everyone close to her realises her true potential and it's just so lovely to read.
The book completely had me hooked from the first page. I was so happy reading it - obviously, a side from the darker bits i was smiling from ear to ear. Lola and Roman's chemistry was top tier and so good to read about.
The side characters were also such lovable ones. Lolas brother, he goes through some trauma but again, the way they have each others backs and are all there for each other is just so bloody amazing. Skylar, Lolas employee and friend. She was a JOY. I honestly loved them all so much.
This book holds a special place in my heart. It was set at the seaside and everything was just written so perfectly. The book flowed SO WELL and the pace was also spot on. I didn't want to put it down and when i did put it down, i was thinking about it. 😂😍
i cannot WAIT for book two. I hope it's soon 😂 Highly recommend this book if you want a new romantic suspense, with all the feels and all the spice. It had a perfect balance of spice and plot and i'm just so happy i read it.

I’ve JUST finished reading, and I’m shaking like I’ve been drinking a cup of every variety of the coffee from Lola’s shop. Oh, my God, what a rollercoaster this book was. Alexis Grace I’ve just met you and I’m already planning to read every single book you write and publish.
The pace in this book was so well done, it flowed so beautifully that every time I sat down, I ended up devouring more than fifty pages, and that’s saying a lot, coming from a slow reader. The descriptions were really good, and very dynamic, because you got them woven into the conversations, and not just written into really long paragraphs (I also love that type of descriptions though, but they can make books a little slower to read).
The suspense in this book gave 2010’s tv series (I’m talking Pretty Little Liars), which made me EAT IT UP. Like, I need this book turned into a TV series ASAP. Not only that, but it was also raw in a lot of aspects when it needed to be, specially when treating Lola’s trauma, I feel like it was a good representation of how one is always blaming oneself from everything that happens around.
Speaking of Lola, she is probably one of my favorite FMCs, because she tries to put up this tough, confident persona, while also being soft and extremely kind inside. She has her own demons clawing at her, and she was so real for admitting that it all affected her, even when she pretended otherwise. She grew so much throughout the pages, pushed through all the shitty things that happened to her, and used her past as a lifesaver when she needed to.
Roman was also a really good MMC, but I just didn’t entirely connect with him. It’s not something specific, but I was just more invested in Lola, and even though he did change and learn some things throughout the book, he just seemed like he started and ended the book without any major growth. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but isn’t my cup of tea either (yes, the pun is intended).
Now, there’s a few reasons why this book is a four-star read, instead of five:
The premise was good, but I don’t think it does the book any justice. I opened this book not expecting that much suspense, or that rawness in some bits, and I really believe they should be mentioned more. Frankly the premise wasn’t as entertaining as the book in itself.
There were some phrases along the book that were a bit too repetitive, and I get that it was necessary at some points, because it showed how the characters fell into repetitive cycles. But it got a bit too much at times, at least to me.
There were some loose ends towards the end of the book, that I’d love to know more of, but I have to keep my review spoiler free, so that’s all I will say.
But overall, this was a very interesting and hooking read, and I absolutely loved it. And, if you are looking for that PLL vibes with only the main couple being protagonists, well written, beautiful story with fairly fast pacing, and a beautiful and strong FMC, this will definitely be the book for you!

As always an absolute banger. I feel like I can now say I will always like your book, I was very excited to see a different genre and a new series after reding the Of Mine series, but this was an absolute rocking brothers best friend, small town romance.
This was exactly what I want from a brothers best friend romance - Roman is actually resisting her even though it is so painfully obvious that they love each other. .
Also it was the perfect age gap where that also added to the forbidden aspect, but was low key not a problem.
Roman was 100% a fictional man written by a woman, because what do you mean the man just wants to hold onto her hair tie. Swoon! But also he can be absolutely filthy when he wants to. YES please. Alexis Grace really said: Get yourself a man that can do both.
Mase was a really well written character, there was a lot of growth, and you really want to know more about him but also he didn't take up too much space in the book.
Lola was also great. She definitely had her flaws, but also she was real and trying to grow. She came across as a bit immature some times but it was written so you always knew it came from her insecurities and it was never really more than that. She was also really strong and just trying to navigate life.
The plot in this book was wild. Not because it was absolutely crazy, but because whenever you thought it was time to catch a break, someting new would happen. While I do think some aspects of the book was passed by a little too fast, I do also really like the pace of the book and in general that just made the book really captivating.
I think it was interesting how every chapter would begin with a little throwback that created a sense of context. In the beginning I could figure out if I liked it or not, but I ended up thinking it did something good for the book.
I can't wait for this series to continue, because I think Alexis Grace did an amazing job of introducing some other interesting characters in this book. So while I can't wait for Mase to hopefully get his own book one day, I am also really excited to read the others stories.

Alexis Grace does it again.
After loving the Of Mine series, I was excited to see her explore a new genre and begin a new series and Wreck the Waves did not disappoint. This is a brother’s best friend, small-town romance that leans heavily into emotional tension, slow-burn restraint, and characters who feel genuinely human.
Roman is exactly what I want from this trope. He resists and he struggles. He knows the line and tries very hard not to cross it, which made their connection feel earned rather than rushed. The age gap added an extra layer of tension and “forbidden” energy without ever feeling uncomfortable or like a real problem within the story. Roman also fits perfectly into the category of “fictional man written by a woman” in the best way. He’s tender when it matters, grounded, and capable of surprising depth.
Lola was a strong and realistic female lead. She isn’t perfect, and the book doesn’t pretend she is. At times she comes across as immature, but it’s always clear that her behaviour stems from insecurity and lived experience rather than poor writing. Watching her growth throughout the book felt natural and satisfying, and I appreciated that her strength showed up quietly rather than loudly.
Mase was a standout supporting character. His reaction to the situation felt realistic and appropriately emotional without turning into unnecessary drama. He had meaningful growth while still allowing the central romance to remain the focus. I found myself wanting to know more about him, which speaks to how well he was written, and I truly hope he gets his own book in the future.
The pacing of Wreck the Waves kept me fully engaged. The plot wasn’t wild because of shock value, but because it rarely allowed the reader to fully relax. Just when it felt like things might settle, something new would happen. While a few moments moved a little too quickly, the overall rhythm made the book incredibly difficult to put down.
One element I especially enjoyed was the chapter openings with small throwbacks. At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about them, but as the story progressed, they added valuable context and emotional grounding.
Overall, Wreck the Waves was a compelling, engaging read and a strong start to a new series. Alexis Grace did an excellent job setting up future stories, and I’m already eager to see where this world goes next.

After loving the Of Mine series, I was excited to see her explore a new genre and begin a new series and Wreck the Waves did not disappoint. This is a brother’s best friend, small-town romance that leans heavily into emotional tension, slow-burn restraint, and characters who feel genuinely human.
Roman is exactly what I want from this trope. He resists and he struggles. He knows the line and tries very hard not to cross it, which made their connection feel earned rather than rushed. The age gap added an extra layer of tension and “forbidden” energy without ever feeling uncomfortable or like a real problem within the story. Roman also fits perfectly into the category of “fictional man written by a woman” in the best way. He’s tender when it matters, grounded, and capable of surprising depth.
Lola was a strong and realistic female lead. She isn’t perfect, and the book doesn’t pretend she is. At times she comes across as immature, but it’s always clear that her behaviour stems from insecurity and lived experience rather than poor writing. Watching her growth throughout the book felt natural and satisfying, and I appreciated that her strength showed up quietly rather than loudly.
Mase was a standout supporting character. His reaction to the situation felt realistic and appropriately emotional without turning into unnecessary drama. He had meaningful growth while still allowing the central romance to remain the focus. I found myself wanting to know more about him, which speaks to how well he was written, and I truly hope he gets his own book in the future.
The pacing of Wreck the Waves kept me fully engaged. The plot wasn’t wild because of shock value, but because it rarely allowed the reader to fully relax. Just when it felt like things might settle, something new would happen. While a few moments moved a little too quickly, the overall rhythm made the book incredibly difficult to put down.
One element I especially enjoyed was the chapter openings with small throwbacks. At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about them, but as the story progressed, they added valuable context and emotional grounding.
Overall, Wreck the Waves was a compelling, engaging read and a strong start to a new series. Alexis Grace did an excellent job setting up future stories, and I’m already eager to see where this world goes next.

This book had me hooked before I even started because coffee shop ownership?? Say less ☕️ The second I read that in the summary, I was in.
Page 16 already had me laughing because I still wanna know how Roman knew Lola was hiding under the ice cream cart in the beginning. That moment alone cracked me up.
My heart definitely went out to Roman early on — anyone who’s ever felt deeply connected to an adopted/foster/host family will feel that part of his story.
The pacing picked up around page 156 of 346 (a little tease 👀), slowed just a bit, then chapter 21 came in HOT — easily 5x spicier. Roman’s friends in chapter 20 were hilarious, and when he told Lola she only needed him (page 187)?? PERIOD. Say it louder.
Also… the symbolism of Lola’s orgasm being described like water hitting rocks (page 188)??? I loved that detail — especially with the book’s title. Clever and memorable.
There are a few spicy scenes in the middle, then a twist that I thought was the big one… turns out I was wrong because the real twist near the end was way more unexpected. The soft opening of the coffee shop was both funny and sweet, and the ending? I loved it.
Roman completely stole my heart when he said he’d take Lola’s last name because her and her family felt more like home than his own. That was everything 🥹

If I were new to dark romance fantasy, I’d give this a 4⭐️. But with over a decade of reading, I’m landing at a 3⭐️. It reminded me a lot of the books I read earlier in my journey, which honestly made it nostalgic. I’d definitely recommend this to anyone early in their dark romance reading era.
That said, I wish it pushed the envelope more — spicier scenes, more temptation, more “almost getting caught” moments (especially in the first 100 pages like the tension around page 156). Even though the ending felt fulfilling, I still want to know:
• What happens with Roman and his dad?
• Does he ever learn what he’s sick with?
• How do the businesses do years later?
• Marriage? Kids?
• And what happened to the people who did harm to Lola?
I finished this in one night, under 4 hours (suggested 5–8), but that’s just because I read a lot and longer books. It’s about ~300 pages and definitely a book you can read in public 👀📖

The Book
Lola has come back to the hometown she’s avoided for six years, a town inhabited by her childhood crush, who also happens to be her brother’s best friend. Now she’s forced to confront the man she believes rejected her, the awful memories that have haunted her since she left, and the scary shadow that’s been following her ever since she returned.
This book was lighthearted and homey, with just enough spice. I also loved the suspense aspect, which kept me glued to the pages and annoyed whenever I had to take a break. The coastal town and all of its characters left me excited to see more from this series, especially to explore more of the found family dynamic. I’ll be patiently waiting for Mase’s story (fingers crossed it’s in the cards).

Lola has been through so freaking much. I was honestly getting frustrated (for her) that the same trauma she dealt with from the beginning kept being brought up throughout the plot. That said, Lola was a very likable fmc, confident and outgoing, but also quite normal, with anxieties and a past she was trying to forget. I also thought her relationship with her brother, Mase, was super cute, and I’d love to see more in future books.

This was one of the first brother’s best friend trope books I’ve read in a while that didn’t include the sometimes drawn-out, annoying, and immature hiding from the best friend. Throughout the book, Roman was mature, reassuring, and honest. He also had a gruff, caveman side that occasionally made me cringe, but most of the time I found it endearing. For some reason, I couldn’t take him seriously lol.

This was my first Alexis Grace novel, and I’ll be honest: I was a little perplexed at the start. The story took a moment to fully pull me under. But once it did? I was invested, heart, soul, and caffeine addiction included.
Lola, our FMC, returns to her hometown of Pine Rock after six years abroad, determined to finally plant roots and open a coffee shop. She’s older, a little bruised by life, and desperate to prove, to herself and her family, that this time, she’s staying. Watching her face the quiet judgment and lack of support from her own family genuinely hurt. Those moments felt raw, real, and deeply human.
And then there’s Roman Banks. The brother’s-best-friend. The age gap. The history. Seven years older, emotionally guarded, and carrying years of restraint after one kiss that changed everything. Roman spends most of the book fighting what he wants for what he thinks is right… until he doesn’t. And that “fuck it” moment? Absolute chef’s kiss. The tension leading up to it is deliciously unbearable.
The story is layered with flashbacks, family conflict, and a few plot twists that keep things interesting without overshadowing the romance. When Roman finally stops pushing Lola away and starts looking at her like she’s his? Whew. Add the fact that he’s English, and I was fully sold. A rugged, cowboy-hat-wearing man with a British accent has no business being that attractive but here we are. 🥵
Wreck The Waves isn’t just about romance: it’s about coming home, being seen, and choosing yourself even when it’s hard. It’s imperfect in places, but those imperfections give it heart.

Lola’s return to Pine Rock after six years of running felt raw and painfully relatable — a girl trying to start over, prove she’s grown, and finally choose herself even when the people who should’ve supported her didn’t. Her dream of turning a wrecked building into a coffee shop sounds chaotic, but watching her fight for it, rebuild her confidence, and grow into her own strength was honestly the heart of the book for me.

And then there’s Roman Banks — childhood friend, brother’s best friend, and the one man Lola never stopped loving. Their chemistry is slow, charged, and impossible to ignore. Roman spends half the book fighting his feelings and the other half failing spectacularly. The moment he starts defending Lola against her family? I melted. And when things turn darker — the messages, the threats, the tension — Roman’s shift from “I shouldn’t want her” to “I will protect her no matter what” had me kicking my feet. Plus, that plot twist? I was so sure I had it figured out. I was so wrong.

What really made this book special were the relationships beyond the romance — Skylar’s supportive friendship, Roman’s boys with their banter and loyalty, and a cast of side characters who actually felt layered. As well all know, I’m not a huge fan of small-town romance, but I knew I should trust Alexis Grace because I was hooked from the opening chapter.
Lola left Pine Rock on bad terms. Her childhood love & brother’s best friend, Roman, rejected her on her 18th birthday. At the same party, she was drugged & SA'd. Lola's back home with plans to open a coffee shop. Her family & the whole town think this is one of Lola’s bad decisions. The only person who seems to be in her corner is the one person she wants to avoid, Roman. The more they work together, the more their feelings come out in full force. As the coffee shop launch comes closer, it’s clear that someone wants Lola to leave Pine Rock.
Lola is a force to be reckoned with. She was a wild child in her teens. It broke my heart that even her family didn’t believe that she could successfully open her coffee shop. I adored watching Lola deal with the ups & downs of business. The way she yo-yos from I’ve got this to I’m way in over my head felt so realistic.
Roman was sent to live with Lola’s family during the summer holidays as a teen by his rich parents. Both her parents see him as an accessory. Especially his father, who wants him to take over the family business & won’t take no for an answer. He struggles to believe that people will love him unconditionally. I adored when Roman realised that he's worthy of love.
When a friends-to-lovers romance is done right, it's one of my favourite tropes. It was done perfectly here. The tension & longing between the two are palpable from the first page. I ate it up! I was especially swooning when Roman put Lola’s father in his place. His unwavering belief in her was amazing.
The steam is here do be steaming. The fuck-it moment at the store left me panting. Who knew Roman was so dominate? I will be Roman’s good girl any day!
I loved Lola & Roman & was endlessly charmed by this seaside Canadian town. I’m excited for the next book in this series. If you love an angsty romance with a sprinkling of small-town charm, a hint of romantic suspense & a whole heaping of it’s always been you, Wreck the Waves is the book for you!
