☆ I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! ☆
3.5 stars!!
As much as I did like and enjoy this third book installment, I was kind of bewildered that this was not the final crescendo in this series.
As much as I am curious as to how everything will unfold, I am also a tad hesitant going forward.
There is still a lot of secrets, lies, and revelations to be hammered out, and the characters' trust and insecurities are really getting the best out of them.
Hope that all changes in book four!! I would like to see some foreclosures and loose knots being tied!...
“Brooke?” he whispered, drawing my attention back from his muscles and the throbbing between my legs. I couldn’t help but think how much I loved him calling my name. As if I belonged only to him, as if I was the only woman in his world. The only one that mattered now that I was lying beneath his hard body, my entire being turned to liquid. "There is no right way to love. Only one way to love and it is to love fiercely, to love fully and to love passionately. Don’t get that wrong. Ever." There are no words to express how much I loved this series. J.C. Reed knows how to reel me in with a thriller story. This book is in both Jett's and Brooke's POV. It allows me to see the story and events through their eyes. It makes me feel every emotion they have. I love those kinds of books that are able to transfer me to a different world, pulling at heart strings, leaving me hoping, and wanting for more. Secretly I hope that the story never ends, but it has to.
"When I closed my eyes that night, I still wished it was you who was making love to me."
Oh Brooke. Like every woman's wish, she wants to be loved, to marry, have a family for her child. Of course, just because bad things happen doesn't mean she can stop loving someone even if she wants to. It's hard to get over someone, and I think that this part is extremely written well in this book. After all she has gone through, I love the way she takes charge. She is so mistrustful, but her life experiences have shaped her, what with her sister being killed and herself coming close to death. To find out that the man, who tried to kill you, is meeting with your boyfriend and is out of prison, I can only imagine the fear you live in, and how little you can trust people. And Jett? He's hot as ever, but there is an element of mystery surrounding him. It's becomes clear that he wants to marry Brooke. The story: Brooke is a twenty something realtor struggling with debts, who has no choice but to take a second job as a pin up girl. During one day at work she finds out that her friend, Gina, was killed, and that Jett is a murder suspect. She has to unravel the truth at no cost, and boy does she find things- She has no choice but to confront Jett, and ends up with him in bed again. I'm so glad that there was a happy ending. One of my favourite quotes: "I realized if I wanted answers, I had to be careful with Jett. If neither of us took the plunge, then there would always be a misunderstanding and poison would eventually seep into our relationship, staining it, damaging it beyond repair. I didn’t want to go back to that cold, dark place of insecurities, a world filled with secrets and words unspoken." Summary: This book was a roller coaster ride that took my breath away and made me wish I hadn't read it so fast. there is no doubt that I will be rereading the series again. If only to read the hot scenes again.
UNFREAKINBELIEVABLE! BOOK # 6 AND GUESS WHAT? IS "NOT" OVER YET!!
MY PERSONAL OPINION? THIS BOOK WAS A GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT, BUT YOU MAY THINK DIFFERENTLY!!
WITH ALL DUE RESPECT TO J.C. REED WHOM I ADMIRE AND RESPECT, BUT IF I SPENT MY MONEY, I HAVE THE RIGHT TO COMPLAIN IF I'M NOT SATISFIED. EVERYTHING WENT IN CIRCLES WITH THIS BOOK, NOTHING NEW! SHADOWS FOLLOWING BROOKE, NOTES LEFT BEHIND FOR HER, THE NASTY AND UNCARING ACTIONS FROM JETT, WHOM BY THE WAY DIDN'T EVEN SHOW UP TO TAKE HER OUT TO DINNER BECAUSE HE WAS MORE WORRIED AND CONCERN ABOUT HIS EX TIFF WELL BEING THAN HERS, THAT HE WENT OUT LOOKING FOR TIFF WITHOUT WASTING ANY TIME!! BROOKE'S HORNY DREAMS, WHICH BY THE WAY, WHEN SHE FINALLY MEET WITH JETT, HER THOUGHT IS THAT SHE WISHES SHE HAD THE SAME RESTRAIN AS IN HER DREAMS.......EXCUSE ME? WRONG, BECAUSE AS HORNY AS SHE IS, THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN, SO READING THAT LINE DIDN'T MAKE ANY SENSE!
NEEDLESS TO SAY, AFTER JETT HAS LIE AND KEPT SECRETS FROM HER, NOW HE'S THE ONE OFFENDED, TO THE POINT TO TELL HER THAT HE'S MOVING TO CHICAGO FOR MONTHS IF NOT FOR YEARS BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T TRUST HIM? WHAT ABOUT HIM MAKING HER PARTNER, AND TELLING HER THAT SHE'S TO RUN THE COMPANY AND THAT SHE STARTS NEXT WEEK, AND THAT SHE WILL BECAUSE HE'S SAYING SO!!!!!! MOREOVER, HE STILL HAS THE BALLS TO TELL HER THAT SHE'S HIS! NOW BROOKE IS CRYING ASKING HIM "WHAT ABOUT THE BABY"? WHERE DID BROOKE'S DIGNITY GO? WHAT ABOUT HER NEW JOB? OH SORRY, IS BECAUSE THE STORY DIDN'T MOVE ON!!!!!!
EVEN IF BROOKE MISINTERPRETED WHAT SHE SOMEHOW WITNESS THAT NIGHT BETWEEN JETT AND HIS EX; SINCE WHEN YOU ASK YOUR EX TO GET THE RING FOR YOUR FIANCE? THERE WAS A LOT OF THINGS JETT LIE TO HER ABOUT, AND IF SHE SLEPT WITH HIM THINKING HE WAS A STRANGER, HE SHOULD BE MORE CONCERN THAT SOMEONE TRY TO DRUG HER, AND WHY WAS HE AT THE CLUB TOO? WHY DIDN'T SHE DISPOSE OF THE PHONE AFTER HE TOLD HER HE WAS TRACKING HER EVERY MOVE?
DISAPPOINTED ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THIS BOOK, WHICH TO ME WAS A SUMMARY OF THE PREVIOUS 5 BOOKS, AND WHAT IS WORSE, DID NOT MOVE ON FROM WHERE WAS LEFT ON BOOK 5; BROOKE WAS STILL IN THE SAME PLACE, WHEN I THOUGHT AFTER THER NEW JOB SHE WAS GONNA MAKE IT ON HER OWN AND SUCCEED AS SHE DESERVED IT. DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE THAT AFTER EVERYTHING JETT MAKE HER GO THRU SINCE THE MOMENT THEY MEET, THAT SHE JUMPS IN BED (THE FLOOR) WITH HIM, OH SORRY MY BAD, SHE COULDN'T RESIST HIS TATTOOS, HIS DIMPLES, IS HALF NAKED BODY, ETC.
HE DOESN'T EVEN FREAKING CARE ABOUT SOMEONE PRETENDING TO BE A DETECTIVE AND BEING SO CLOSE TO HER? NO, HE'S TELLING HER THAT SOMEONE IS PLAYING A GAME WITH HER!!! WHAT? WHY IS HE MORE CONCERN ON GETTING DINNER AND ICE CREAM AND NOT ABOUT ALL THE STRANGE THINGS HAPPENING AROUND BROOKE, INCLUDING WHAT SHE FOUND AT HIS APARTMENT?
J.C.! If you could make it even more twisted why don't you? I love the mystery suspense you have added to the romance. It keeps me on the edge of my seat the whole time. And when I say the whole time, I mean from page one to finish. Love the way Brooke figures out things. There's an element of weakness intermingled within strength. You can feel that she still loves him, as he does, and nothing is really over. When she said she missed him, I felt like shouting, I do too.
Jett's is sexy as ever.
When the two come together, it's hot, passionate, fierce. There's an explosion of fireworks.
I'm being very generous in my rating by giving The Lover's Promise 3 stars. I feel like this series is going downhill fast. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of J.C. Reed's work, and the Surrender Your Love Trilogy was one of my favorite series last year. But I can't get over the fact that maybe Brooke and Jett's story should have wrapped up in the trilogy instead of going off in a tangent with this break off series. I LOVED these characters, but they just keep getting more frustrating to me. I found myself flying through and sometimes skipping paragraphs because I could't connect. Their relationship has turned bipolar and I can't wrap my head around the amount of secrets between them. I used to think Brooke was a strong female lead, but she has grown weak, and that is because of Jett's constant need to lie to her. I mean, throw her a damn bone before that woman goes insane!
I'm not sure where this story is going. It feels a little off the fly with me, but I hope that J.C.Reed can redeem what is left of these character and their relationship in the final installment of the No Exceptions series. I almost have to read the conclusion, to see if it pans out okay, but I won't be in any hurry for it. This could have gone so much better, if instead of creating a whole series, Ms. Reed could have written a follow-up novel to the Surrender Your Love Trilogy. Like I said, I am a big fan of J.C. Reed, but she needs to pull of something GREAT in the last chapter of Brooke and Jett's happily every after, if in fact there is going to be an HEA..
*Gifted copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review*
Holy smokes, batman! That was a crazy ride. I so wanted to read on. Murder, Sex, Love, mystery,...this book had it all. I thought I had it all figured. WRONG. Love those kind of books that send my mind spinning.
At the end of The Lover's Game I will admit I was upset, disappointed, intrigued, and a bit confused. And I stand by what I said in that review: I love Brooke and Jett when they are together, but they can be exceedingly frustrating when not. They just keep falling into the same traps that cause issues...the biggest being his keeping her in the dark and her jumping to conclusions and taking off.
But this one begins in Jett's point of view revisiting a pivotal scene from the last installment....Hallelujah! And we finally get to see what was going on in his head while he made some decisions and got involved in a situation that Brooke observed and then took off running again. And it gave me a little hope that my previous faith put in Jett was not completely misplaced. But of course, Jett is still not forthcoming with all of his secrets and hidden agendas so I can't totally vouch for him yet.
Call me foolish, call me desperate, F***, call me vengeful, but in my heart I knew what I was doing was the right thing--for her, for us,
Jett had never been an open book. He liked to keep secrets. He had sides to him I didn't know about; sides I was afraid to learn of.
The events and new people from the last installment bleed into this one and begin to tie in more with their story. Lies, secrets, jealousy, coincidences, murder, foul play and suspicions add complications to an already very complicated relationship. Confusion, fear, anger, doubts, and miscommunication continue to make this couple one big, volatile mess.
And unfortunately they are both so stubborn and have such trouble with effective communication that it is hard to get to the heart of the matter at times. They tend to lash out and hurt each other when cornered, hurt, or angry and put the other on the defensive. But part of their strong personalities also makes them intensely passionate when together.
Brooke eventually has to dig deep and figure out if she can find it in her heart to trust Jett or if she will believe others or her own interpretations. She has such fears, doubts, and trust issues. She has to look at their past, the current situations, and make decisions that will impact her future. But Jett's tendency to keep his secrets locked down and just say "you have to trust me" do not make it easy to have faith. And he is also easily upset when she fails to believe in him and is used to people following him blindly....but Brooke challenges him. And there seem to be players in the game that are manipulating and pitting sides against each other who might not even realize they are playing yet. And it is hard to determine how some of it all fits together.
My world had become a complete mess where I could not longer see what was true and what wasn't, whom I could trust and whom I could not.
There is danger lurking, but who is the real target and who is behind it? Is Jett really lying to protect her or himself? What are all of his secrets? Can she really trust him like he keeps asking her to do?
This is a fast-paced romantic suspense story with mystery and emotional turmoil. This story has been building and is finally starting to come a little bit more into focus as some pieces come together. But still has my head spinning too. Some things are answered. We see some progression towards decisions and determination of loyalty. But there is definitely still more story to tell and it is left with intriguing questions and my fervent hope that the next one will answer them all and give Jett and Brooke and happy ending that I so want them to finally have. And that Jett is finally vindicated of all wrong doing and I can proudly fly my Team Jett flag.
After having read and loved the other books in J.C. Reed’s No Exceptions Series, I was more than eager to jump right back into Jett and Brooke’s story in The Lover’s Promise.
I have to say that I really enjoyed reading this next chapter in their story. It was exciting and filled with mystery, and I never knew where the story would take these two. This book brought back all of the aspects that I loved from the other books, and just had me loving Brooke and Jett more.
The Lover’s Promise is the next chapter in their mystery laden journey, and had me feeling everything that these two stubborn lovers share with one another.
I love loved that this book gave us Jett’s point of view. Stepping into his head was highly memorable and it gave me the fantastic opportunity to understand him more. His point of view matched what I thought it would be so well, and I feel like I got him so much more from stepping into his head. His point of view was added a new layer to the story, and what you learn from him and that will have you loving Jett Mayfield more.
Brooke is one stubborn lady who is determined to figure out what in the hell is going on, and I freaking loved that about her. Her personality is so fun to read, and I think it’s fantastic how determined she is to figure out all the mysteries that are surrounding her. Brooke’s character is a fighter and I afore that about her. She is one fierce little lady, and that shines through again and again in this installment.
There is a crap ton of build going on in this book, and that just heightens all that you’re reading. There is the build to solving and figuring out what’s all going on, but there’s also the immense build between Brooke and Jett. This story builds and builds while you try and figure out if they will or they won’t, and that just makes this story all the more engaging to read.
There is more mystery in this book and series than you can shake a stick at, and you will love that. This has been one of my favorite aspects of this series, because the more I read, the more I have to know what’s really going on. This book presents continued mysteries and adds a few new ones into the mix, and that had me dying to know what in the world was going on. That level of mystery and suspense just amps up everything you are reading, and it will make you love what you’re reading even more for the intensity it brings.
The Lover’s Promise is the third installment in this series, and slowly but surely through this book you get more of the pieces to Brooke and Jett’s picture coming together. When some of those pieces come together, you will just be blown away, and while I still have many questions about these characters and their story, this book gives you so much needed answers.
I am dying for the final installment to Brooke and Jett’s story. I have so many questions that I want answered, and I also just want more time with Brooke and Jett. I am eager to see where the next steps in their story take them, and I can’t wait to see how it all comes together in their next book.
I really enjoyed reading The Lover’s Promise by J.C. Reed as it gave me another chance to spend time with the fierce and fantastic Jett and Brooke. Those two have an undeniable connection that bursts from the page, and I was more than ready to see where this book would take them.
The Lover’s Promise was exciting and kept me engaged in the mystery laden story the entire time, and I for one could not get enough.
I am more ready than ever to read the conclusion to this couple and series, and I’ve got my fingers crossed that the next chapter will be just as good, if not better, than this one.

In the Lover’s Game, the author left me hanging by a thread! The twists and turns in a well-thought-out plot not only had me stuck to every page, but also hoping that for once Jett would come clean with Brooke. Mr. Sex on Leg’s is a real charmer. He’s got a deft hand when skirting around the truth and up until now, had a way of convincing Brooke that his behaviour was for her own good. Then she discovers the man she’s head over heels in love with is disloyal. Or is he really? Well, be prepared folks because if you thought the plot was filled with unanswered questions, now it’s going to get much much more complicated.
Quote: "Brooke's like no other woman I've ever met. For all I know, she might just throw it at my head when she finds out what I'm really up to."
When Brooke does a runner, she literally jumps out of the fire and into the frying pan. Carrying Jett’s child doesn’t help either. There is no doubt in my mind that the author has worked hard at developing Brook’s character. Even though the tough is going to get tougher, she doesn’t shy away from extremely unpleasant happenings and decides to do something about it. Brooke’s decision to confront Jett had me jumping up and down for joy. “About time too!” I said to myself. Talk about the scorching hot scene in between confessions and explanations isn’t in it! This couples’ amorous get together was dynamite! However, the outcome of their tête-à-tête left me more confused than ever. Jett annoyed me immensely when he claims she is the only love of his life but then says he’s going to get on his bike; metaphorically speaking of course, for an unlimited time! I mean, what's this guy’s game?
Quote: "Jett, our relationship's not what bothers me. It's all the secrets you're keeping that destroy us."
So to say the ending left me intrigued would be an understatement. It certainly looks like Brooke is being setup and if she is, who’s behind it? I was a little let down by Jett’s mucho macho character in this book. Probably because he was hardly around while his lady was doing everything in her power to make sense of a dire situation. He makes her his, swears true love, even pays off her debt, but is as evasive as always. Hmm… I felt his reasoning for not being by her side a little on the weak side. Or maybe, just maybe, this guy has got something up his sleeve! I’ll have to be patient and hopefully all my doubts will be cleared up in The Lover’s Proposal due out this spring.
Quote: "Maybe the real question you should ask is not why Jett paid off your debts, but rather what he wants in return?"
This well written read revolves around the thoughts and points of view of only one protagonist which the author has done splendidly. I did find some passages a tad repetitive at times. Nevertheless, as we have little or no real idea how Jett feels deep down, or what is going to happen to either of them in the future, the carrot dangled in front of my nose has only made me hungry for more! Bravo to you, Ms Reed!
Quote: "Mine," he whispered. "You'll always be mine, Brooke. As I will be yours. And that's my promise."
It was strange how one minute you thought everything mattered, and then with one single glance, everything became nothing, except for that one guy, who could make you fall in love with him over and over again, day after day, in just a heartbeat.
There is nothing more that I love, than to throw in some mystery in a romance novel, and this is something that JC Reed has done perfectly. After following Jett and Brooke's story from the very beginning, I am eager to see them get their happy ending, but the journey there is just so exciting! I was on the edge of my seat, just waiting for the next piece of the puzzle to be revealed or even what else could obstruct Brooke and Jett once more.
This book didn't disappoint and continues this series beautifully. We are able to connect even more so with the characters and truly see their thoughts and actions, especially to one another. When these two come together, you know that there is going to be sparks and action and its so bloody good! As much as I love romance novels, I can't help but adore the ones that add hints of suspense and mystery within the pages. I mean, who doesn't love a good guessing game?
"There is no right way to love. Only one way to love and it is to love fiercely, to love fully and to love passionately. Don’t get that wrong. Ever."
It was a constant battle from Brooke to determine the answers and I found myself with her every step of the way. Sometimes the answer isn't always the one you want. The more I read this series, the more I fall in love with each story and I don't want it to end. As we delve deeper into the story, look closer into who's behind everything, I just can't wait to see how it plays out and to finally get the answers that I am dying for!
Brooke and Jett are two brilliant characters that I feel JC Reed has set up beautifully. You become engrossed in their lives and are fascinated by the goings on around them. Sometimes you will find yourself wanting to scream at Brooke, yet others you cheer her on. Yet with Jett, you love his mystery but also want to see the man behind the secrets. Just what is he hiding? Who is the real mastermind behind everything?
I am dying for the next instalment of this series. I need to know the answers! You cannot go wrong with this story and series as a whole, as they are truly brilliant and keep me engrossed through their entirety. If you love suspense and mystery mixed in with your romance then this is a definite choice. I can't wait to see where the next book leads!
I had to do a little reread before delving into this part of the story as it’s been while since the events at the end of the last book.
I did have my reservations when starting this series as I didn’t think that I would get into it as I did the original trilogy but boy it really delivers.
The main focus on this part is Brooke and her trying to come to terms with the information she was given at the end of the last book. We get a glimpse into Jett’s mind and it’s a confusing insight and I’m dying to find out what his agenda is regarding his involvement with Brooke.
I won’t beat around the bush but this part raises more questions than answers and will really have you invested in getting the bottom of the mystery as well as the couple finding their own happiness.
I think the Jessica has done a fantastic job of bringing these two characters back to life and she just really knows how to write suspense and mystery into a romance novel. As these are novella style books they sexy bits are really limited but when the come, its worth the wait.
It’s a great short read and I think it one I’d do a reread of when the series is completed, all in all it was a great read.
I don't believe in giving one star reviews since it takes courage to publish your words... But I was so close. I enjoyed all of her other books but this was just an epic disappointment. Is this another one of those story lines that goes on and on forever? I honestly thought this author was going to be different...apparently not. I was so excited to read this and getting closure to this series, but that wasn't in the cards. The "book" started off strong in the first two chapter and then...BORING! Most of this novella/episode/"book" was all about Brooke's inner dialogue about whether or not she could trust Jett...blah blah blah. It wasn't until the last 10% of the book do you find out anything more about the story line (Jett's lame explainations)...and then BAM...another cliff hanger. Waste of one hour...that's all it really takes to read this since you can skim through most of it...I want my money back. If I can't have that, then the author's next book should be A LOT longer, with less grammatical errors, and cheaper.
Holy Crap! I am so glad that we got more of Brooke and Jett but this book raised more questions for me than it answered.. Jessica knows how to write with just the right amount of romance, mystery, and suspense and it keeps you flipping pages trying to see what will happen next. That’s not a joke because sometimes I caught myself reading so fast trying to see what happened here, how Brooke would handle this or what Jett would do next. I would have to stop myself, slow my reading down and go back and read slower.
Brooke is trying to sort through all of her feelings about Jett and dealing with all of the information that has come to light. Jett, just as mysterious as always, broke my heart when he said he was leaving and going to Chicago. Who is behind everything, how much does Jett know and what will happen next to them? I want the next book now!
Thanks Jessica for the ARC of The Lover's Promise and for writing such a wonderful journey for Brooke and Jett. I can’t wait to see what will happen next on their journey!
I have been following Jett and Brooke's story right from the beginning and I have loved every moment of it. There has been so much drama, stress, fighting, arguing, lies, betrayals and the list can go on and on. Every time I start to read I can not put the book down and I am always left needing more and more from Brooke and Jett.
The Lover's Promise is an amazing read. I got some answers I wanted but I also got so much more because Jett is a jerk and more but he loves Brooke and is willing to do anything for her. Brooke was being a little stubborn but she had her reasons. She has been hurt real bad by Jett and does not trust him so she is trying to protect her heart.
When I got to the end of the book I wanted to scream and call J.C. up and asked her when the next one is coming out because this can't in no way be the ending for these two. Then I read on and it says The Lover's Proposal coming Spring 2015!
The Lover's Promise is so much more than just a book. It's mysterious, you are reading it, and as one question is answered, another is presented. It's suspenseful, I don't think I have any more nails left as The Lover's Promise has made me bite them all off. It's provocative, Jett and Brooke still have the chemistry they did back in Surrender Your Love, and if you didn't read that trilogy, well, first off, just go read it, but even if you didn't listen to me, you can start with the No Exceptions series and still feel their palpable inclination toward each other. With The Lover's Promise, the series is taken to a new level, and I am torn between wanting to prolong their epic story and wanting to know what happens immediately. Love this magnetic series, and I can't wait for more.
I LOVE J.C.Reed, but I'm just disappointed at where this series is going. Brooke is just…how to politely put this…STUPID. The beginning of this book drew me in, but I found myself wandering and skipping to the end to just see what happened, because I couldn't take anymore of Brooke's stupidity and naiveté. Maybe I'm too picky. Maybe I like a stronger heroine. Maybe I just like a very fast paced book, but I sometimes think a story can be tighter and told better in one novel or perhaps two books. Stretching this story out over four short books is just not necessary, it killed the flow and did not work for me.
But I still love you, J.C. and I'll read your next series!
This book was so bad, I couldn't read a lot of it. It was full of meaningless words, thoughts, sentences and chapters. It was totally confusing and filled with grammatical errors and very poor editing. Jett and Brooke are Americans, living in America. In America we don't call garbage bags, bin bags. We don't have zips in our clothes,we have zippers. What the heck? Was this even written by the same author? Total waste of time and money.
This one was a real battle for me personally as I didn't read the three earlier ones and for some reason the author (or the assistant) sent me the book unsolicited ... I do sincerely try and read anything that is sent to me, but I need to get the other two to understand this one first off secondly... Oh, goodness this story in my opinion raised more questions than answers... In addition I almost DFN this one since there were sections that annoyed me...
Can't wait for the last book in this series. I couldn't put it down- loved it!! I have loved the whole Jett and Brooke story. I just wish Jett would be more forth coming with Brooke. Thanks to JC Reed for such a great series
Ohhhh Jett … will you ever learn? Reeling from the cliff hanger ending of The Lover’s Game, I dove directly into The Lover’s Promise. I was under the impression The Lover’s Promise was the final installment in Jett and Brooke’s romance, but think again JC Reed fans … there is another. Gina was dead. Brooke, blinded by love, terrified by her love, and lacking some common sense freaks out. Of course she does, Gina is dead! I had a hard time putting myself in Brooke’s position in this book. To me, her frame of mind was all over the place. She is in love, she hates Jett, she fears for her life, where is her friend, what about work … the list goes on. Full on pregnancy brain in full effect! Jett being Jett is just an ass. He feels so entitled to put Brooke in her place and damn I hate that! He causes me so much blind rage! Truth be told, I believe Jett and Brooke belong together. They have the same fears, the same dreams and well .. she’s pregnant, LOL. JC Reed is great at story telling! I always get excited for a new adventure in the No Exceptions world and JC always delivers.
Secrets, plotting, hidden agendas and so much more keep me coming back for more!
Every action has an equal yet opposite reaction. So many things are occurring simultaneously and so many people are involved in the story. My head is spinning to keep up with all the 'truths' being told and being discovered without being told. It's almost impossible to know the truth when everyone seems to have their own version of the truth. Secrets, plotting, hidden agendas and so much more keep me coming back for more!
Just when you think the drama between Brooke and Jett is at its highest peak...we're thrown another curve ball. Each time you think you have figured out what is going to happen BOOM! Something else happens. I can't wait to see how this rollercoaster of a ride ends.
Brooke is surrounded by drama, the question is what is real, what is a set up and if a set up by whom. I want more romance though. This will keep you wondering and hoping.
This 3rd installment in this series is another hit from this author. Honestly this series just keeps better and better. I cannot get enough of this couple. Jett and Brooke are a couple that have consume my mind ever since I got a hold of the Surrender Series. The way the author writes their story just has me so connected to the characters.
Their love story hasn’t been easy one. In this book the couple is dealing with secrets, past relationships, murder, threats and trust issues. Jett is a very domineering man. He is at a loss with Brooke’s unwillingness to let him take control. He understands that what she saw can be misconstrued but he loves her and needs to protect her. Brooke loves and has a constant yearning for Jett but seeing him kissing Tiffany and learning the secrets he has been hiding sends her running and fighting him off.
Brooke is trying to sort through all the secrets that have come to light and the possibility that Jett has moved on with Tiffany. Pregnant with Jett’s child, Brooke starts to believe that all Jett and she shared was a lie. Brooke this time around, is smarter and starts to search for answers on her own. When she believes Jett is trouble she will risk everything to make sure he is not in danger. Brooke is having a problem trusting and believe in Jett’s love and that is what is keeping her closed off to Jett.
“Jett our relationship’s not what bothers me, It’s all the secrets you’re keeping that destroy us, I feel like I can never trust you fully if you keep things hidden from me.”
“I know you have questions. But like I said, It’s complicated. I’m not sure you’d understand and I’m not willing to risk it.”
Jett for the first in many years is losing control. Losing the woman and child he loves because of secrets he kept from Brooke. Every time he tried to take control it only pushed Brooke further and further away from him. The worst part it never dawned on him that asking Tiffany for help would make her think there was more than what it was. He doesn’t blame Brooke for her lack of trust but his main goal in life is to keep her and his unborn child safe. Even if it means conceding to the one thing she wants, and that is for him to leave her alone.
“I love you, Brooke, I really do., but there is no point in staying if you think I’m capable of hurting you. I’d rather kill myself than see you hurt. I’d rather go away than make you feel unsafe around me.”
Even when Jett and Brooke are at odds the connection between the two are felt throughout the pages. Their disagreements are epic, strong and full of love and lust. There is no denying the passion and love they have for one another, the each feed off of it.
“You couldn’t control yourself when you thought I was Check.”
“Maybe that’s exactly what I wanted to happen. If there were another guy, I would have done him. REAL GOOD.”
“Just to make one thing clear, you’ll never fu*k another guy. You are mine, Brooke. And I don’t share. Do you, Brooke? Do you love me?”
“I do, sadly. Maybe even too much.”
“Then tell me you’re mine?”
“I’m your.”
“Mine. You’ll always be mine, Brooke. As I will be yours. And that’s a promise.”
Someone is out get Brooke. One thing remains true in the constant battle of secrets is that their love just grows stronger. Jett will do anything to protect Brooke and his child and is willing to bring down anyone who dares to try to hurt them and keep them from him. As usual, the author does an amazing job with taking readers into Jett and Brooke’s life. It is exciting, passionate and steamy. I don’t think I will ever get tired of reading about these two characters and their journey. The last installment to Jett and Brooke’s journey comes out sometime in the spring and I can’t wait to get my hands on
Since the moment Jett came to terms with his true feelings for Brooke, Jett’s promise to himself and to Brooke was that he would protect her at all costs. But what happens when the price is their relationship? What happens when the secrets Jett is unwilling to share puts a wedge between them that seems insurmountable? In Jett’s mind, nothing will prevent him from making Brooke his and keeping her that way, but with Brooke’s doubts and second guessing about every aspect of her relationship with Jett as well as the type of man Jett truly is, it seems like Jett has a real fight on his hands, and with all of the other fires Jett’s attempting to put out, it’s too soon to tell if Jett’s going to be able to keep his promise.
I have to admit…I’m not completely sure how I feel about this chapter in Jett and Brooke’s story. I understand that the secrets need to be slowly revealed and the buildup of the plot’s suspense adds to the intrigue, but I'm left confused and concerned about where everything is headed. The half reveals and assumptions are killing me slowly...I want answers, so I can wrap my brain around it all. I need Jett to unload more of his secrets and let us in on the truth, whatever that may be because I feel like Brooke deserves them after everything that has already happened.
Brooke has already lost a lot in her life, and I don’t begrudge her for not trusting Jett. The way their relationship began and the duration of it are not in Jett’s favor. JC Reed does a wonderful job of showing Brooke’s conflicted state in The Lover’s Promise. She loves him…wants to help him if he’s in trouble but still can’t fully commit to believing him 100%.
Jett’s feelings for Brooke are laid out to the readers when his point of view is given, which helps his cause at least from the readers’ perspective, but Brooke doesn’t hear his words or his rationale for the things that he’s doing and the secrets that he’s keeping, so it’s a mute point as far as she’s concerned.
Through it all, though, the connection that Jett and Brooke have never fissures, even when they’re apart and Brooke is questioning the truth about Jett. They love each other…want each other…desperately crave each other. Now, they just need to figure out a way to work together to find their common enemy and bring him/her down, and I can’t wait for that to happen!

3.5/4 Poison Apples (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)
What I Loved: Okay, all I got to say about this installment in this series is FINALLY! Jett and Brooke’s story has become a labyrinth of mysterious, secrets, lies, and just pure craziness. The craziness gets even crazier in the Lover’s Promise and I’m not gonna lie, this book was so good and since I was sick yesterday I read ended power reading this entire book in one day. I just need there to be some kind of peace of mind when it came to Brooke and what she was going through and by the end of this one, I finally got that. It’s definitely the first time where Brooke as a character has started to grow and change and sit back and think rationally about everything. I hate it when the female lead characters tend to be the weaker of the two in a relationship, and when I say weaker I mean mentally as well as physically and I can definitely say Brooke is gaining her inner strength. We pick up the story immediately after The Lover’s Game with Brooke in a dangerous corner, leading her to make some irrational decisions. It’s obvious that Brooke’s life is still in danger and watching her go through all this mystery and heartbreak is nothing short of addicting.
Not So Much: Since this is a four part series, I guess I just didn’t feel like there was enough progression with the plot. The plot got a little too thin for me at times, and the crazier Brooke got with everything, the more she started to annoy me. At a certain point I just wanted to scream at her because to me, it’s pretty freaking obvious what is happening to Jett and to Brooke. Brooke’s imagination is definitely still running wild, and her ramblings get a little too long winded at times and I wish could’ve been cut down. I will say I am starting to like Brooke a little bit more again, but her constant denial of what is going on around her is tiring and becoming too frustrating. I know that the next one in this series is the last, so I’m definitely looking forward to closure and resolution because the repetition of the storylines is becoming tiring.
