Going, Going, Gone: 100 animals and plants on the verge of extinction

Rate this book
We asked 100 conservation groups around the world: 'if you could pick one species that epitomises your work, which would it be?' From the RSPB to WWF to the Cheetah Conservation Fund, and many, many more, the answers came rolling in. Each provided a synopsis of the threats faced by their selected species, a summary of their degree of threat, an outline of the work being done to save them, and a number of ways in which the reader could help to conserve that species.

With beautiful full-page photographs of each of the 100 species, this is a book that will both fascinate and educate and, hopefully, help to secure the future of the threatened animals and plants that it showcases.

This 2013 release showcases 100 plants and animals around the globe that are threatened with extinction. Compelling full-color images of each species is complimented by a one-page write-up with a general overview of the species, basic data on remaining numbers/lifespans/threats along with efforts underway to save it along and information on what individuals can do to help. Among the species depicted are North Atlantic Right Whales, Sumatran Tigers, Javan Leaf Monkeys, Pygmy Hogs, Natterjack Toads, Hawaiian Cotton Trees, Polar Bears, Ethiopian Wolves, Blue-Throated Macaws and Siamese Crocodiles. GOING, GOING, GONE is both a beautiful, compelling photo-book and an 11th-hour wake-up call for action.

Beyond the beautiful photos, there is a lot of information in "Going, Going, Gone". Each endangered species has not only facts and figures but links to organizations working to keep them alive. Most of those featured come from the animal kingdom, though plants and eco-systems are also included.

This is only the tip of the iceberg, and it is both shocking and heartbreaking. A world without elephants, tigers, polar bears, rainforests? Entirely possible.

All the people and organizations working to keep this from happening deserve our thanks and our support.
