Maksim

Rate this book
My anonymous Daddy keeps me safe through a screen.

Then a dangerous bratva prince hires me... and makes me feel the exact same way.

Lis knows all my secrets. My sensory meltdowns, my desperate need for structure. Every night, he's there—calling me "little bird" and helping me breathe when the world gets too loud.

We've never met. That's the rule.

But this man. Maksim. He has cold eyes and lethal hands, and he's dragging me into a dangerous world of stolen art and Russian mob wars. Every time his voice drops low, I have to obey.

He shouldn't feel so familiar. His discipline shouldn't feel so good.

But when danger crashes through my door and Maksim kills to protect me, the truth comes

My safe, anonymous Daddy and my lethal bratva prince are the same man.

And now he's not hiding behind a screen anymore.

Maksim is a steamy forced proximity bratva romance, starring a sensory-sensitive little bird and the lethal Daddy who's been hers all along. The epic conclusion to the Underworld Daddies series, this novel can be read as a standalone.

Love-hate this book, in fact I couldn’t finish it.

The beginning hit me in all the right places. As an adult just beginning to figure out where I am on the autism spectrum, the idea of someone setting rules holding you accountable, and praise that isn’t just performance, is captivating to think about.

I’ve wondered why I am so consistently drawn to “daddy” stories, and this book’s description of loving structure comes close to what I thinks fascinates me. I highlighted several passages to bring to my therapist.

And Ghost, Auralia’s comfort greyhound! I’ve had one too (miss you, Bart!) and it was lovely to read of their relationship. Moon has clearly lived with greyhounds and understands how special they are.

But.
But then the rest of the book reminded me of what isn’t my kink and spun further and further from being at all believable.
1) Auralia is rushed to Maksim’s fortified home after a nearly deadly kidnapping attempt, but then she spends weeks living normally: walking her dog, etc. with no security detail. It didn’t make sense.
2) She cries at everything. I almost preferred the panic attacks.
3) Three bratva crime lords who are emotionally intelligent and talk with each other about their fears and feelings with wisdom and eloquence. All. The. Time. It didn’t make sense. Why make them Bratva?
4) The sex scenes were all the things are don’t appeal to me. It’s not the kink (other daddy books have been truly sexy) it was the mawkishness and especially clichéd hyperbole. I think she was trying to write it as transcendent sex but couldn’t pull it off.

Satisfying series end…

The last book of this series (so far, at least) is a satisfying read with an intense story arc and engaging characters. This last book brings the brothers together along with their wives and the Bratva life in a way that makes it easy to imagine their lives continuing on. I appreciated that the resolution to the story arc wasn’t without cost and that the characters grew to meet the challenge with integrity. The main characters are unashamedly smart and that “smartness” enhances the telling. I also greatly appreciated the descriptions of the FMC’s sensory experiences and ways of coping and managing in environments indifferent to her challenges. How lovely if there were more Maksims in the world to really see and nurture the neurodivergent. As I said in the title, a satisfying conclusion to a very good series. Be aware of triggers including kidnapping and a gentle nod to the D/s community but nothing too bold.

Maxim and Aeurlia

This is my favorite book in the entire series. Maxim's way of thinking, cataloguing events and strategizing steps ahead was fascinating. The plot twists that were tragic and possibly disastrous were turned in his favor into success. Excellent story.I liked how all 3 brothers and their women fit together so well but were totally different outside of their relationships.Well done.

Strong Stories, Loving Families

This series is different from LuckyMoon's usually stories. I have devoured all 6 books in this series and now I find I want to read all about Dmitri Deshnev and his Bratva.

This book couldn’t decide whether the dog was a whippet or greyhound. Very annoying, and the main character would hate that too.
