This book contains the following novellas in the Alpha Marked series: Scarlet, Gabriella, and Whitney.
Thirty and single? Well, getcha butt to the Gathering!
Scarlet - As if hitting thirty wasn’t enough, unmated Scarlet Wickham is summoned to this year’s Gathering. As a woman Marked to be the mate of an Alpha pair, she’s not going to find happiness anywhere other than in the arms of two Alpha werewolves. So, off she goes with her sisters in tow. ‘Cause yeah, she’s one of the plump Wickham triplets, and they’re all being carted off to werewolf speed dating.
Gabriella - Ugh. Gabriella Wickham thought turning thirty was bad enough, but now she’s been invited (ordered) to attend this year’s Gathering (werewolf speed dating). Having a Mark on her arm means that she’s one of the few human women destined to mate with not one, but two Alpha werewolves. Thank goodness werewolves don’t come in “ugly.” After her sister Scarlet mates the Ruling Alphas, things really start to get interesting. Gabby runs into not one, but two hotter than hot werewolves who make her tingle in all the right places. Yum. Of course, “yum” comes with baggage of both the mental and female kind. Lovely. Luckily it’s nothing a few punches and a good talking to can’t cure. Maybe…-ish.
Whitney - Whitney Wickham is at the darned annual werewolf Gathering all right. Only there’s one problem: she doesn’t belong there. Her sisters carry the Mark indicating they’ll mate an Alpha Pair of wolves, while Whitney does not have that lovely, swirling scar. She’s been hauled half way around the world to be stared at, and not-so-covertly sniffed, for no reason. Unfortunately the gorgeous, drool worthy, magic-mojo-wielding Wardens don’t know why she’s been summoned to the Gathering any more than she does. Which sucks. But at least they’re hot.

Celia Kyle writes erotic, passionate love scenes that heat up the pages and spice up her characters. In the Alpha Marked series, triplets Scarlet, Gabriella and Whitney are called to The Gathering, an annual meeting of werewolves and those human women who are marked to be their mates. Unfortunately, these strong sisters are about to turn werewolf society upside down! For starters, Whitney is NOT marked! And the sisters are strong women who are ready to refuse to be “sniffed” by randy werewolves looking for their mate. Then things start to get rocky. In their pursuit of the Ruling Alphas to find out why Whitney was called, Scarlet meets her mates. (Oh, yeah. Did I forget to mention that these erotic novellas are menages? Well, they are. And they are HOT!) Then, her mates get challenged for her and for status - at this point, Scarlet learns her mates are the Ruling Alphas. Only after her mates win the battle to the death (yeah, it might be a little corny, but hey, these are werewolves! They are allowed to be a little medieval!) will Scarlet mate with them. Fade to black here…. Allow me to insert that the “mating” scene is great! Wonderful writing that both entices the senses and enhances the reader’s experience. It draws on not just the physical, but the emotional growth of the characters. Then there’s Gabriella. She throws a huge wrench in her mates’ lives. Because her mates do not have status as a pair. They are instead two wolves who serve as Captain and Lieutenant in the Ruling Alphas’ Guard. Gabriella has to experience the worst thing for a mate - being denied. And to top it off, she’s challenged and has to fight a female wolf who believes one of Gabriella’s mates is hers! Being human, Gabriella’s fight isn’t to the death, just to first blood. Her mates finally realize their mistake when they have to watch her battle it out. Again, I’ll fade to black here…. And to repeat myself, Hot, Horny Werewolves + Their Mate = Sexcapades in the Bedroom! Finally, there’s Whitney. When she first arrived, she was told she would have to wait for the Wardens, who are the ones who cast the spell to call the Marked women to the Gathering. When she enters the room to confront the Warden Pair (after waiting a few days for them to arrive), she is immediately attracted to them. This is where the society really gets murky. Apparently, Wardens are not able to mate with a woman. But of course, this is wrong. There is a special woman, a Warden Born, who carries the ability to siphon and use her mates’ magic when needed. Years before, several members of the Society decided this was too unnatural, and they “changed” the laws. Whitney starts a war between the Wardens and the elders when her mates take her for themselves. (Again, insert fireworks.) I enjoy Celia’s writing. The one thing I didn’t like was the way these books were split up. I definitely recommend reading these books in sets. There are 3 more books in the series already, but I’m holding out for the second box set before I purchase. These 3 novellas read more like 3 parts of the same novel. In addition, I wanted MORE. More conflict, more to the resolutions, more tension driving the plot forward. Don’t get me wrong. There was tension at certain parts, but it could have been a bit more drawn out. Maybe stories 4 - 6 will help me resolve the building conflict in stories 1 - 3? I will be purchasing them as soon as I see a boxed set!
5 stars for Celia Kyle's Alpha marked Box set of books 1-6
5 stars for Celia Kyle's Alpha marked series. So funny that I LMAO. The book set starts with three stories featuring the Wickham twins Scarlet, Gabriella and Whitney. The triplets don't want to go the the Werewolf gathering, then they receive their summons on their 30th birthday. Scarlet and Gabi understand why they got theirs because they were born with a mark that identifies them as mates for an alpha werewolf pair. Whitney don't have a mark, so she should not have received the summon at all, the sisters are angry but go to the gathering of alphas since the letters promise punishments if they don't. The stories are hot, hot hot, but also funny and interesting with lots of action. You really feel like you get to know the people in the stories, and did I mention funny? It has been a long time since I have laughed as much as I have reading this book set. Here are two quotes to show you why.
Quote from Whitney's story : “Come on, you can tell me why you’re all homicidal and suicidal. ’Cause even if you try to kill Callum, he’ll end up eating you in a bad way. Then Madden would have to kill him, and it’d all be a big mess. I don’t do cleaning.”
"HFICs.” “What?” “The Head Furballs in Charge.” Scarlet gave her a wink and an unrepentant grin. “Now, go kick some ass."
I thought the book set would finish with Whitney's story because it was a logical end after all three sisters find their mates. Seeing that the series continues with the stories of Rebecca, Lorelei and Paisley was a real treat. The story picks up a year after what happened at the last gathering. The three sisters Rebecca, Loreley and Paisley are transported to the gathering against their wishes.
Rebecca can't believe that werewolves are real and that she is destined to mate with two of them. It's all scary and confusing. One minute she is on a date (okay a bad date), and the next she find herself in a strange hotel with people turning into werewolves. Thank god her cousins ( the Wickham triplets) are here to set her strait. Now she just has to find a way to deal with alpha pair Aidan and Carson, her family and all the problems that follows. Aidan and Carson has their own problems to add to the mix, and to top it off they have to deal with jealousy, guns and a lunatic.
Loreley is up next. After being picked up by what looked like a tornado, from her gun range, and dropped on the roof of a hotel, Loreley is angry. In fact she isn't just angry, she is scared, hungry, frustrated and possibly having a psychotic brake down. At least that's how it looks to her. She is seeing people change into wolfs, and since wolfs don't exist she has to be hallucinating. Follow Loreleys journey into love and magic in this thrilling tale.
Last book is about Paisley the youngest sister. Like her sisters she is surprised in getting the summons to the gathering. Paisley are really sick and tired of getting kidnapped. First she is whisked of to a strange hotel, where people chance into wolfs, then some of said wolfs kidnap her again and take her to a really dirty hotel. She is scared, dirty and for some reason glows like a nightlight. Adding to the mix the two hot men she meets and she is in full crazy town. Will Paisley find her Happy ever after? Read and find out.
I just loved this box set of books. It has all the elements to keep me glued onto the pages. Humor, strong not guys, strong funny sassy women, action and a good story. I clear 5++ star book in my opinion.
I vacillated between saying 'it was ok' and 'I liked it' - settling on 'it was ok' because, sadly, while I didn't *dislike it* I didn't like this trilogy either.
I think I went into book 1 assuming it was going to be a *book* and it ended up being a thinly-written short story. Not a *bad* short story, but not a particularly spectacular one.
Book 1 had no real plot - except 'heroine and sisters are called to a gathering to get with two men each' followed closely by 'heroine meets men and has sex with them. If all I was looking for was a quick read where three people had sex I'd say it was pretty okay. Unfortunately I was hoping for more. Like world building. Character development. A plot that incorporated a goal besides getting laid/galloping towards a HEA. Yes, some might argue these things are difficult to provide in a short story, but I'd argue strenuously that this is not the case. I'm not going to throw out 'good examples/bad examples' because I think that's a little offensive to the writer of the book I'm reviewing. I'll just say that there are definitely examples of well-written short stories, in the romance genre, that incorporate world building, character development, goal-driven plot, and a build up to romance that isn't insta-lust/love.
Book 2 is much of the same - and for some reason the heroine from the first book has a different personality in it (and in Book 3). Weird. Book 3 was the best of the lot - it at least had a plot (a shallow one but one that I can say was good for a short story).
I can't help feeling like this concept could work, if only it was approached in a different way. Maybe as a single book incorporating the stories of the three sisters and their experience finding mates, with an overlying story that tied all the characters together with a goal-centered plot? Then it would be an actual book and it might provide the breadth of story to develop the characters and allow them to develop relationships.
I would not recommend this book (books), but I hope the author eventually writes something bigger and better that will fulfill my needs for a good read.
So I kind-of, maybe read seven or eight manuscripts by Ms. Kyle yesterday. This three book series is one of them. Some of her better work - so if you like Ms. Kyle's writing I would recommend these stories for you.
My biggest problems with this series is Scarlet - the main female in the first book changes considerably in personality for the second and third books. She is clearheaded and you can see why the Mark decided the Alphas need her - after that, the power must have gone to her head. Plus the sex scenes for all three books are the same or similar enough you can cut and paste them.
For those unfamiliar with her work, she is a prolific erotica writer and this particular series is a MFM menage shifter series.
The rest of the review is a critique of her writing style from the overview of reading her stuff rather than this particular series.
Ms. Kyle is an average writer. Her initial concepts are pretty interesting, and she has some off-standard shifter/vampire worldbuilding on occasion to spice things up. She also has pretty good editors and artists working for her. That said, she, unfortunately, does not excel or stand-out about anything else. Her plotlines are pedestrian and predicable. Her characters, male and female are the same book to book - to the point in the menage of this series I lost track in the third book which male was which and decided it didn't matter. Everyone talks the same and, even with diverse backgrounds, all react to outside stimuli similarly. The sex scenes are generic and don't change book to book - an oral then standard sex scene. Her fight scenes aren't bad, but they are also pretty generic for the genre. Humor is mild and standard - usually centered around some family interaction, without the typical urban fantasy snark or viciousness.
She is a good middle-of-the-road writer to tie you over between releases of your favorite author. Just don't read too many of her books in a row.
I loved that this wasn't a simple mate story. The challenges that each set faced was unique to them as were their positions. It wasn't repetitive and that is why i liked it. Great read.
This was a fun read. I love Scarlet and her antics. She has a mouth on her and it is awesome. The sisters and cousins are fun and I love the fact that it was a cool spin on werewolves.
