I was out foraging when I felt something watching me. Hunting me. Before I could run, he was on me. Pinning me down, sinking his fangs into my throat. When I woke up, I was back in my bed with no memory of what happened, just a strange heaviness in my bones and an itch on my neck I couldn't explain. It could've been a mosquito bite, but no. It looked too bumpy. Then, one night, he came to my rescue. And then he knocked on my door. He told me I was his mate, that I'd always been his. Salazar, a centuries-old dark fae prince, tells me he lost control the moment he scented me. He had a feral shadow-bound beast to his soul—protective, starving, desperate to be seen. They say I belong to them now... body, blood, and soul. And the terrifying part? I think they're right.
Welcome to the Obscura Conclave, where oaths are carved in blood, loyalty is survival, and love is the most dangerous weapon of all. Dark MMM paranormal romance. Fated mates. Blood bonds. Claiming. HEA guaranteed.
Content This is a dark paranormal romance (18+) featuring mature content, blood bonds and feeding, on-page violence, and themes of trauma recovery. For detailed content warnings, see the book’s front matter.
I'm a Turkish multi-genre indie author. I love writing tales swirling (or intertwined by) with elements of romance, passion, mystery, horror, and fantasy where falling in love with a different kind of hero is the only possibility...
Salazar, a fae-vampire prince from many centuries ago, his soul shadow-bound to a creature of the dark. wanders a forest in the twenty-first century, seeking a meal. Encountering Aiden, a down-on-his-luck young man who lives in a ramshackle cabin, Salazar’s confused, because there’s more going on with him than purely the need to feed on the fresh substance coursing through Aiden’s arteries —and the unfamiliar sensation which is love makes an uneasy mix with his usual appetite for vein-contained liquids.
It’s fortunate that Salazar’s restrained from merely satisfying his appetite as usual—as urged by his shadow beast—and forced to think through the new emotion by Faine, the Guardian of the Woods, who’s also been keeping an eye on Aiden. It may be a fact that the youth is destined to be the mate of the Prince, but his consent is necessary, and Salazar must ‘earn his trust and heart’.
How he—and his beast—go about this, and how Aiden reacts, forms the rest of the story, which I won’t reveal. What I will say is that it’s a testament to author Lily Lamb’s writing that despite the subjects of her stories—her paranormal romances, MM tales and all—not being completely my kind of books, I can’t help reading whenever she publishes another one. Here she balances well the predatory prince with the prey he pursues, rendering the chemistry growing between them with skill. If you like MM paranormal romance with a dark twist then this one’s for you.
Shadowbound was my second read by Lily Lamb. It is another great blend of fantasy and horror. I love horror, and Lamb has a unique writing style. This one feels more supernatural than true horror. If not for some of the gory scenes, I’d almost put it in a romance category.
Shalazar is an ancient entity who wakes up hungry for blood. The story centers on him and the human Aiden, their relationship, and Aiden’s physical and emotional transformation. I’m picky about book covers, but this one matches the characters perfectly.
Aiden is a young man who grew up in the foster care system. He has been bullied and abused throughout his life. When Shalazar comes to his rescue at his cabin in the woods, the story becomes a sweet romance in which it becomes debatable who is rescuing whom.
It is gory in places, so heed content warnings. If you are interested in the supernatural and feel the pull of other creatures who inhabit the forest after dark, then this one is for you. It is a sweet romance of yearning and passion, and mostly a chance for the characters to embrace a life they gave up on long ago. I read this in one sitting. I look forward to reading more of Lamb’s work.
Shadowbound pulls you quickly into a moody, shadow-laced world where mystery and tension drive the story forward. The atmosphere is one of its strongest elements—the setting feels heavy with secrets, and there’s a constant sense that something deeper is unfolding beneath the surface. The pacing keeps things moving while still allowing the darker tone to settle in.
I especially appreciated how the story leans into moral complexity rather than clear-cut answers. The characters are placed in situations that test loyalty, power, and identity, which adds weight to their choices. While there were moments where I wished certain threads had a bit more space to develop, this was still a compelling start to the series. A solid read for fans of dark fantasy who enjoy layered worlds, quiet menace, and stories that hint at much more to come.
Shadowbound had a really compelling premise and hit a lot of elements I typically enjoy, especially with the first person POV and the darker paranormal tone. The setup pulled me in right away, and the idea behind the story had a lot of potential to be something immersive and emotionally gripping.
That said, this one ended up feeling a bit stiff and slower than I expected, which made it harder for me to fully connect with the story and characters. While I can see the appeal, especially for readers who enjoy dark, atmospheric paranormal romance, it just didn’t quite hit for me personally. Overall, I’d place this around a 3.5 star read—good concept and solid foundation, but not one that fully clicked for me.
Young Aiden gets the MM romance he never knew he needed courtesy of dark fae Salazar and his shadow beast twin, who claim him in the woods with a neck bite. When a vampiric entity finds their mate, this bond also comes with three p’s—possession, passion, and protection dialled up to level ten.
Trigger warning—be aware that, amidst the book’s central themes of yearning, bonding and passion, there is also some shocking violence a third of the way in, so my advice would be to read that bit during the day rather than just before bed if you want to avoid nightmares.
Always a fan of Lily Lamb’s work. Will be back for more.
Author Lily Lamb’s ‘Shadowbound’ is a soulful fusion of dark MM paranormal romance, ancient lore, and the profundity of magical realism. The story proceeds via alternating narratives by Aiden, Salazar, and the Shadow Beast.
The author’s unfettered imagination, vivid sensory details, and pacing bring her fae and human characters to life. In keeping with the plot development and romantic bonding, the passages become progressively more visceral and sensitively erotic, enriching the story’s emotional crescendos.
I highly recommend this paranormal romance which sinks its talons into the reader’s psyche.
As I read this incredible novel, in the back of my mind I tried to work something out. Do I read all of this author's works because of the fantastic imagination that goes into them, or do I read them because the wonderful descriptive prose makes the reader believe they are in the scene?
In the end I decided it was both.
I was the hunter, I was the hunted. Each change jolted me into yet another persona.
It's paranormal; the boy encounters a vampire, a dark fae, and he's ok with it; he needs the protection and the family. The fae's shadow beast makes himself known, and the boy eventually draws him out, and he's ok that too; now there are three of them, but they can share. The world around them is exceptionally hostile. The description of the paranormal beasts, and their feelings, as everyone gets drawn into each other, is really good.
This dark MM paranormal romance delivers feral intensity, blood-bound destiny, and obsessive devotion in equal measure. The dynamic between the vulnerable narrator and the shadow-bound fae prince is both unsettling and magnetic, balancing danger with undeniable chemistry. With its fated mates trope, possessive energy, and guaranteed HEA, it’s a gripping read for fans of dark, primal fantasy romance.
This dark MM paranormal romance hooked me from the first line. The woods encounter is chilling, Salazar brings intense, possessive energy to every scene. The fated mates and blood bond elements blend danger with devotion beautifully. Dark, seductive, and emotionally charged with a satisfying HEA.
I like this book because it pulls you into a mysterious and emotional supernatural world right away. The story has a dark, romantic tone that keeps things interesting, with strong chemistry between the characters and plenty of suspense. The fantasy elements add excitement without making the story hard to follow. The mix of danger, passion, and mystery keeps the pages turning
