This book has been anxiously awaited and it did not disappoint. The Bregden Chronicles each challenge me to examine my beliefs and biases in a beautiful non confrontational way. It’s a breath of fresh air in our current world to be able to grow and change from words of love and hope. Read them all and allow the words to wash over your soul. You will be a better person for it. I know that I am!
There are very few book series that change the way you think. Even fewer that change the way you live. The Bregdan Chronicles by Ginny Dye did both for me.
There are 22 books in this series. I have read 21 of them 3 times. I am currently on my 2nd reading of book 22. That is commitment but it is earned.
What began as a historical fiction series slowly became something much larger in my life. These books did not simply tell a story. They taught history in a way that felt intimate and urgent. I did not just read about dates and events. I learned the weight of choices. I learned the cost of injustice. I learned how ordinary people step into extraordinary moral courage.
Through the Bregdan journey and the lives woven throughout, I felt compassion deepen in me. The kind that demands action, refuses indifference, sharpens your convictions and adds volume to the cause you already care about. These books did not tell me what to believe. They reminded me why I believe what I believe.
Ginny Dye writes with clarity and strength. Her storytelling is immersive without being sentimental. She does not romanticize struggle, but she does honor resilience. She does not simplify history. She makes it accessible and that balance is rare.
Somewhere along the way, I had the privilege of getting to know Ginny herself. I now consider her a friend. She is strong in a way that is steady without being too loud. She did not set out to be a savior of the universe, yet through her work she has become something incredibly important. A teacher, a role model, and an influencer of truth. She took the spotlight and made it a lantern.
I credit my friend Alicia for putting the first book in my hands. I did not know then that I was beginning a journey I would return to again and again. Some books entertain while others inform. The Bregdan Chronicles does both, and then it does something more. It calls you higher.
I simply cannot say enough good things about the series or about the woman who created it. If you want to understand history through the lens of human courage, if you want characters who feel like companions, if you want a story that lingers long after you close the cover, start with book 1. Just know you may not stop.
Ginny! Thank you for book 22! When it didn’t come out last spring or summer or fall I was so worried about you having read book 13 and learning about who you are. I’m not on social media but asked my sister to look you up and make sure you were okay! I love this series so much. My sister is reading it now too! The books give me strength and hope. And if there were ever a time when hope is needed I think it’s right now. Keep well, keep writing and thank you again ❤️
Thank you for adding the history often left out of schools and how real people handled the major changes in their life. We can all be a string of hope in our homes, extended family and friends, and our community. Thank you for continuing your research to bring so much light and truth for all who read and share with others.
Well, I’ve loved all the Brendan Chronicles books so far, and this one didn’t disappoint. Reading the last story two years ago, I thought I might forget some of the characters. Boy, was I wrong. As soon as the started reading, I felt like I was living back on the Cromwell Plantation. I’ve grown to love all these characters, and if life wasn’t so tough back then, I almost wish I could have been friends with all these wonderful people! Thanks for writing this wonderful series, Ginny Dye, I’ve learned so much about history and about how to be a better version of myself. Each story uncovers more wisdom on how to be caring, understanding, helpful, courageous, resilient, kind, and resourceful. Keep writing and making the world a better place!
It did not take very long to be right back with Carrie and the entire family. It seemed like I had only been away for a short time. I am so grateful to Ginny for battling through her time with Long Vivid. I was afraid that this book was never going to be. It is hard to believe we have gone through 22 books already. I still want to know "what happens next". Thank you for sharing Ginny.
Ginny you are an amazing writer. Your books take you through so much history. If everyone took a moment from reading your book, when you talk about a historical moment and research that part of history it opens more to explore. One of the things I read I’m sorry I cannot remember her name but she was the one who took Felicia in and showed her how to make her destiny. How she went from being a millionaire to losing everything. I hate it when I come to the end of a book specially, this one because I know it’s gonna be a while before another one comes out, but I’ll be ready. Thank you for most amazing series I’ve ever read.
Lifted By The Wings of Destiny is book #22 in the Bregdan Chronicles Historical Fiction Series. It covers the timeframe of January to June, 1874. It focuses on the characters' struggles with a depression, KKK violence, and major events like a protest in NYC and the Mill River Flood, forcing them to confront their destinies and find joy amidst hardship.
This is the best series of books I have EVER read and I read alot. The historical research is spot on and I am so impressed with the writing style. I can’t say enough about these great books. They have turned my dislike of history ( after a horrible HS teacher) into a love of history.
I also love her Bregdan Principle & Bregdan Woman concepts. The Bregdan Principle... Every life that has been lived until today is a part of the woven braid of life. It takes every person's story to create history. Your life will help determine the course of history. Bregdan Woman refers to an empowered and resilient woman who makes her dreams come true, steps past fear to choose courage in all areas of life, and makes a difference in her community.
I highly recommend this series!! Definitely best read in order to follow the history timeline.
The story continues and each life Is a journey of love, courage and hope. What is going on today in 2026 so relates to the historical timeline in this book. The courage to move forward in life when our country feels like it is coming apart. The necessity of hope when physical danger is always present, represented by the violence of the KKK, the violence and uncaring actions of the NYC police during labor protests or the greedy mill owners cutting back on expenses to build a safe dam in order to power the factories that wipes out and destroys the towns of people who work there. All this happening in post civil war years under the umbrella of a nationwide economic depression and destruction of any infrastructure to help the liberated black folk survive in their new world. The women are the ones that have the strength to hold life together and heal the wounds with love.
Can I say that I have never in my life been so caught up in a series of books to where I actually felt like I was part of the family… I have cried more times than I can count and I won’t give any spoilers but dang I sure was upset about a certain somebody dying …you’d of thought I was actually one of the characters in the book I cried like it was me that lost them and I carried that with me for days!! I can’t wait to read the next one… actually I’m really hoping they never end… I love to read and I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve ever read a series of books that have affected me this way. You are definitely a talented writer please keep it up!!
I just love this entire series. I have learned so much of southern history that I never really knew or understood before. Lifted By the Wings of Destiny continues the saga with absolute joy, pathos, and emotion. I am eagerly awaiting the next in the series.
If you have not read any of the Bregdan Chronicles, you simply must! Start at the beginning and read in order so that you don’t miss anything. I guarantee, if you like historical fiction you will fall in love with these books. Ginny Dye has researched the history so completely then woven the stories into each book so well that you will feel like you are right there living alongside these wonderful characters.
I waited a long time for this book and although I enjoyed it, I was a bit disappointed at the same time. The earlier books were incredible. I was sucked in and read one after the other. But with this book, as with a few just before, I can pretty much tell what someone is going to say. That cookies will be waiting. What aren't you telling us? Everyone seems to read each other's mind. The writing is getting predictable. And a bit on a junior high level. The typos continue as well. Does someone not read these books before they're printed? I'll continue to read them as I've grown attached to many of the characters, but I hope they gain a more adult tone to them.
I have been reading this incredible series for over a year now and have enjoyed every minute this series takes me back into history. The application to every day life teaches and grows you in such unexpected ways. The stories encourage you to be a more thoughtful person as you interact with a diverse and ever changing world, but also to stay true to the person God created you to be ..made in His image to honor and glorify Him with our actions and attitude. Her next book cannot come out soon enough! So inspiring and full of knowledgeable quotes to bring you through your day to day. This is how history should be taught!
I'm still trying to recover from reading Alice in Wonderland. The #22 book was hard, at times, to put down just like the other 21! However, it felt as tho it was needed to "fill in" to help with the length of the book. Maybe someone can help explain the reason for that much of an addition. If it was to clarify a point, i missed it. In none of the previous books have I found Any lacking of excitement for the next up coming event in the book! This one I did. However, can hardly wait until #23 is available.
As with each book you, Ginny, have hit the mark in my soul. Thank you. I am up in years and still unsure of my “destiny” but it has been a life worth living and I pray it has touch other lives along the way. I am not a professional in any way, I am not a “jack of all trades” either, but I have tried to be a good wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all I have encountered on my journey. I enjoy your writings, Ginny and pray your health remains firm as you continue to enlighten and educate generations to come.
I enjoy history. We never hear all of the story of our history. These books are basically from the African American version of life in the times of... Yes, both sides are addressed and the knowledge of the love between all the characters is rewarding. The horrors, joys, tragic bits of life and history mingle with the love. Our history isn't pretty nor perfect, no one's is, but it's ours and we have the strength to overcome what we faced and will face. That is what this Author shares with her books.
I was really starting to think Ginny wasn't writing this book. After reading every one of the others I felt like something was off. I kept reading, though, and about half way through the book it picked up a little. There was a lot of repeats of words and phrases throughout the book. I am trying my best not to sound critical. I have been putting Ginny on a pedestal for a long time. I hope she is not slipping. I am so sorry her health affected this book with all the setbacks she suffered, but I think the book did, too.
I may have taken time for this book to come to us, the readers; but the wait was well worth it. Each of the characters continue to stay true to self as life matches on through the pages of each new adventure. I'm always so excited to start each new addition to the Bregdan series books...And now it's time to wait again for the next book to weave it's way into the history of this wonderful series of books...entitled The Bregdan Chronicles Fiction Series! Thank you Ginny!
I just love this series. Its been awhile since anew book. So much American history that puts you right there with the characters. My Mom started me on this series and I have them all. Dye is a down to earth Author. 1874 still issues with Blacks being targeted by KKK. They start to move to North for better life without fear. Women continue to get more freedoms in choosing what they want to be. Until next time.......
Ginny Dye has again described life in both the North and South so well that the reader can live history as the story unfolds. Her characters experience the problems of the period and meet the challenges with courage, intelligence and love for their fellow human beings. As always, I wait for the next segment of our country's story. Thank you, Ginny Dye!!
I'm not good at reviewing but it has been the most exciting read I've had in a long time, always waiting for the next book. I think I'm at the end. I don't know if there will be other books in this series, if not I will be missing all the characters I've come to.know and love. Please let me know if you find more books. Wow, what a series!!!!
All of the Bregdan Chronicles speak to me. I love the references to Homeopathic Practices. I always get carried away by the story. I hate to come to the end. It was so much better for me when I started at the beginning and could keep going with each book in the series. Now that I'm caught up, I run short of patience waiting for the next book. I'm always excited when I see the email updates of the next book coming. I will be anxiously awaiting number 23.
When I finally got this book I didn't want to start reading! I was afraid after such a long time it wouldn't be the same as the ones I had loved so much! I was wrong! The first words I was back in my beloved books! Ginny you are a superior writer!!!! I hope you live and write for a l o n g time! Can't wait to continue the Brendan series
In our current chaotic and divided world, I recommend everyone read this series to see what true chaos and horror was like in the Civil War era, and benefit from the civility, love, high standards of the characters as they support each other and thrive in such dire and dangerous conditions.
Another wonderful saga of life’s trials and the hope that keeps us moving forward. I always devour these books as soon as they are released. I was not disappointed! My only regret is that it ended too soon, and now I have to wait for the next edition. So Ginny, I hope your health continues to be good so the wait won’t be too long.
Another great read by the author who has become my favorite writer, Ginny Dye. The way her stories weave in and out of different parts of history is wonderful. The stories just keep getting better and I am learning more about history. A big thank you to Ginny!
Another visit with the Bregden characters...I loved this one..a great story that I just fell into from page one. There are so many characters that sometimes it's hard to keep everyone straight. In this volume, the author did a great job at reminding us--with just a sentence -- who belongs with whom.
I wished it was not so long for this book. Enjoyed all the historical references but it was difficult to remember all the characters's histories. The characters become like family as I read about lives. I feel their joy and their pain.
I!I've this series. I went back to the first one and started reading them again. I will probably do so again and again as long as my eyes hold out. I recommend these books. They are so entertaining . can't wait til the next one.
I love the continuing story! I can hardly wait until the next book is released! You bring your readers right into the story, like you are living the story with them every step of the way.
