This book has been anxiously awaited and it did not disappoint. The Bregden Chronicles each challenge me to examine my beliefs and biases in a beautiful non confrontational way. It’s a breath of fresh air in our current world to be able to grow and change from words of love and hope. Read them all and allow the words to wash over your soul. You will be a better person for it. I know that I am!
There are very few book series that change the way you think. Even fewer that change the way you live. The Bregdan Chronicles by Ginny Dye did both for me.
There are 22 books in this series. I have read 21 of them 3 times. I am currently on my 2nd reading of book 22. That is commitment but it is earned.
What began as a historical fiction series slowly became something much larger in my life. These books did not simply tell a story. They taught history in a way that felt intimate and urgent. I did not just read about dates and events. I learned the weight of choices. I learned the cost of injustice. I learned how ordinary people step into extraordinary moral courage.
Through the Bregdan journey and the lives woven throughout, I felt compassion deepen in me. The kind that demands action, refuses indifference, sharpens your convictions and adds volume to the cause you already care about. These books did not tell me what to believe. They reminded me why I believe what I believe.
Ginny Dye writes with clarity and strength. Her storytelling is immersive without being sentimental. She does not romanticize struggle, but she does honor resilience. She does not simplify history. She makes it accessible and that balance is rare.
Somewhere along the way, I had the privilege of getting to know Ginny herself. I now consider her a friend. She is strong in a way that is steady without being too loud. She did not set out to be a savior of the universe, yet through her work she has become something incredibly important. A teacher, a role model, and an influencer of truth. She took the spotlight and made it a lantern.
I credit my friend Alicia for putting the first book in my hands. I did not know then that I was beginning a journey I would return to again and again. Some books entertain while others inform. The Bregdan Chronicles does both, and then it does something more. It calls you higher.
I simply cannot say enough good things about the series or about the woman who created it. If you want to understand history through the lens of human courage, if you want characters who feel like companions, if you want a story that lingers long after you close the cover, start with book 1. Just know you may not stop.
Ginny! Thank you for book 22! When it didn’t come out last spring or summer or fall I was so worried about you having read book 13 and learning about who you are. I’m not on social media but asked my sister to look you up and make sure you were okay! I love this series so much. My sister is reading it now too! The books give me strength and hope. And if there were ever a time when hope is needed I think it’s right now. Keep well, keep writing and thank you again ❤️
Thank you for adding the history often left out of schools and how real people handled the major changes in their life. We can all be a string of hope in our homes, extended family and friends, and our community. Thank you for continuing your research to bring so much light and truth for all who read and share with others.
Well, I’ve loved all the Brendan Chronicles books so far, and this one didn’t disappoint. Reading the last story two years ago, I thought I might forget some of the characters. Boy, was I wrong. As soon as the started reading, I felt like I was living back on the Cromwell Plantation. I’ve grown to love all these characters, and if life wasn’t so tough back then, I almost wish I could have been friends with all these wonderful people! Thanks for writing this wonderful series, Ginny Dye, I’ve learned so much about history and about how to be a better version of myself. Each story uncovers more wisdom on how to be caring, understanding, helpful, courageous, resilient, kind, and resourceful. Keep writing and making the world a better place!
It did not take very long to be right back with Carrie and the entire family. It seemed like I had only been away for a short time. I am so grateful to Ginny for battling through her time with Long Vivid. I was afraid that this book was never going to be. It is hard to believe we have gone through 22 books already. I still want to know "what happens next". Thank you for sharing Ginny.
Ginny you are an amazing writer. Your books take you through so much history. If everyone took a moment from reading your book, when you talk about a historical moment and research that part of history it opens more to explore. One of the things I read I’m sorry I cannot remember her name but she was the one who took Felicia in and showed her how to make her destiny. How she went from being a millionaire to losing everything. I hate it when I come to the end of a book specially, this one because I know it’s gonna be a while before another one comes out, but I’ll be ready. Thank you for most amazing series I’ve ever read.
The story continues and each life Is a journey of love, courage and hope. What is going on today in 2026 so relates to the historical timeline in this book. The courage to move forward in life when our country feels like it is coming apart. The necessity of hope when physical danger is always present, represented by the violence of the KKK, the violence and uncaring actions of the NYC police during labor protests or the greedy mill owners cutting back on expenses to build a safe dam in order to power the factories that wipes out and destroys the towns of people who work there. All this happening in post civil war years under the umbrella of a nationwide economic depression and destruction of any infrastructure to help the liberated black folk survive in their new world. The women are the ones that have the strength to hold life together and heal the wounds with love.
I just love this entire series. I have learned so much of southern history that I never really knew or understood before. Lifted By the Wings of Destiny continues the saga with absolute joy, pathos, and emotion. I am eagerly awaiting the next in the series.
If you have not read any of the Bregdan Chronicles, you simply must! Start at the beginning and read in order so that you don’t miss anything. I guarantee, if you like historical fiction you will fall in love with these books. Ginny Dye has researched the history so completely then woven the stories into each book so well that you will feel like you are right there living alongside these wonderful characters.
I waited a long time for this book and although I enjoyed it, I was a bit disappointed at the same time. The earlier books were incredible. I was sucked in and read one after the other. But with this book, as with a few just before, I can pretty much tell what someone is going to say. That cookies will be waiting. What aren't you telling us? Everyone seems to read each other's mind. The writing is getting predictable. And a bit on a junior high level. The typos continue as well. Does someone not read these books before they're printed? I'll continue to read them as I've grown attached to many of the characters, but I hope they gain a more adult tone to them.
I'm still trying to recover from reading Alice in Wonderland. The #22 book was hard, at times, to put down just like the other 21! However, it felt as tho it was needed to "fill in" to help with the length of the book. Maybe someone can help explain the reason for that much of an addition. If it was to clarify a point, i missed it. In none of the previous books have I found Any lacking of excitement for the next up coming event in the book! This one I did. However, can hardly wait until #23 is available.
As with each book you, Ginny, have hit the mark in my soul. Thank you. I am up in years and still unsure of my “destiny” but it has been a life worth living and I pray it has touch other lives along the way. I am not a professional in any way, I am not a “jack of all trades” either, but I have tried to be a good wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all I have encountered on my journey. I enjoy your writings, Ginny and pray your health remains firm as you continue to enlighten and educate generations to come.
I enjoy history. We never hear all of the story of our history. These books are basically from the African American version of life in the times of... Yes, both sides are addressed and the knowledge of the love between all the characters is rewarding. The horrors, joys, tragic bits of life and history mingle with the love. Our history isn't pretty nor perfect, no one's is, but it's ours and we have the strength to overcome what we faced and will face. That is what this Author shares with her books.
When I finally got this book I didn't want to start reading! I was afraid after such a long time it wouldn't be the same as the ones I had loved so much! I was wrong! The first words I was back in my beloved books! Ginny you are a superior writer!!!! I hope you live and write for a l o n g time! Can't wait to continue the Brendan series
In our current chaotic and divided world, I recommend everyone read this series to see what true chaos and horror was like in the Civil War era, and benefit from the civility, love, high standards of the characters as they support each other and thrive in such dire and dangerous conditions.
Another wonderful saga of life’s trials and the hope that keeps us moving forward. I always devour these books as soon as they are released. I was not disappointed! My only regret is that it ended too soon, and now I have to wait for the next edition. So Ginny, I hope your health continues to be good so the wait won’t be too long.
Another great read by the author who has become my favorite writer, Ginny Dye. The way her stories weave in and out of different parts of history is wonderful. The stories just keep getting better and I am learning more about history. A big thank you to Ginny!
I wished it was not so long for this book. Enjoyed all the historical references but it was difficult to remember all the characters's histories. The characters become like family as I read about lives. I feel their joy and their pain.
I!I've this series. I went back to the first one and started reading them again. I will probably do so again and again as long as my eyes hold out. I recommend these books. They are so entertaining . can't wait til the next one.
I love the continuing story! I can hardly wait until the next book is released! You bring your readers right into the story, like you are living the story with them every step of the way.
Terrific, informative & exciting. Dye does her US History research & weaves it into her fictional family of Cromwell Plantation. I’ve loved reading this series for years. Looking forward to the next book!
This story is chucked full of love, courage and hope! I don’t want it to ever end. History has filled me with wonder and awe, and I am intrigued by the feelings that fill my soul when I read! Please don’t ever tire of filling my heart with hope!
As always Ginny Dye delivered a wonderful book #22. I will read again like the last 21… so many lessons to learn, so many words that have lifted me on those wings of Destiny… The characters, the history so very powerful…
I have loved and learned from every one of these books! They are history made more personal with one family and all the members and growth. The past and the future, I can’t wait for the next book and see how their lives continue on! Thank you
There are history lessons and Lessons of courage and love and family. So well written. Recommend to anyone who wants to settle in for a really good read.
To be reminded of what our country and citizens went through to create our democracy makes me want to do all that I can with my voice to protect it. Thank you Ginny! I can’t wait for the next book in your series!
I have ready all the books in this series and look forward to each new one. I always learn some new and interesting history of our country post civil war and the characters feel like old friends by now.
