The Way My Heart is Set Up

Rate this book
Kylah Blanks is the definition of strength in this soulful tale of healing and restoration. After years of childhood abuse, Kylah finds herself grown, single, and scorned, and it isn't until life forces her to break down that she realizes that she must heal from yesterday's trauma's in order to move on to brighter tomorrow's.

When Kylah loves, she loves hard, so when her old high school sweetheart walks back into her life only to end up destroying her heart, he validates her cynical view of men. She warns her sister Kyree and best friend Trixie about love, but soon enough, she finds herself falling in love faster than she could ever imagine. Then to make matters worse, her drug addicted mother pops back into her life, spilling secrets that turns Kylah's life upside down.

When it's all said and done, Kylah is forced to either face the pain of her yesterday's or risk losing everything and everyone she loves for a past she can't seem to shake.

Wonderful job!!! I enjoyed this read and add the fact that it was well written with minimal errors was a plus. Ky found herself having to go through one trial after another while growing up. Through it all she was able to do what was necessary to help take care of her little sister. Because of the things Ky experienced growing up she never allowed herself to get serious with anyone. I could've smacked Eugene! He was foul for what he did and I was glad when he got what he deserved. Dame, even though he seemed too good to be true, was a great dude. I couldn't stand Porshia though. Many things began to surface once Ky's mother finally got the help she needed. The revelation was a shocker to say the least. Many people find themselves in the same position as Ky but she took the necessary steps to get herself together. She proved that the way her heart was set up, it was only right to forgive those that played a part in her experiences from the past to focus on bettering her future. Man that ending has me too through with Porshia! I can't wait for part 2 and once again great job!!!

Unexpectedly Good

This was really a good book. I'm glad I already downloaded the other parts because the way that ended has me all excited to see what's going to happen. I practically read this nonstop. It was a feel good book after the storm because Kylah had been through a lot. This book had me thinking about my own family issues but it has some funny parts as well. Now it's about to heat up and I'm hyped. Truthfully,I didn't think it was going to be good. Based on the title I was thinking it was just another love story but I was wrong. It's more than that. It has its twists and turns throughout the story. I highly recommend it.

Good story but a lot of errors

Good story but a lot of errors

I liked the plot because I can understand the mental state of someone who has lived through abuse. It's a good start but it needed a bit more editing. There were a lot of grammatical errors and there was a point where character names were switched. I also felt there was a lot of strong language but that's just me. Overall a decent book.

Thank you for writing this awesome book

I was a little skeptical at first thinking this would be a drug dealer boyfriend & baby mama drama book like so many others, but this was so much more. It had baby mama drama but it fit into the story perfectly and I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I would give it more than five stars if I could. Dechella Taylor you are definitely added to my list of favorite authors.

This book had me on an emotional roller coaster ride, It was an amazing read. It’s filled with jealousy, disdain, betrayal, regret, but most all it’s filled with the warmest love story I’ve read yet. Also the author grasps your attention and curiosity in the beginning and holds it throughout the book. I will definitely suggest it to my online reading group for our book of the month read. Well on to the next book in this series, tootles.

Well, I finally finished the first book in its entirety of the Series, "The Way My Heart is Set Up" and I give it 5 stars because the writer captivated my attention from beginning to the end by reeling me into story line with intense anticipation and excitement of what to expect on the next page. Ms. Taylor's is awesome in bringing her characters to life!! Despite some minor editing errors, I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series. Awesome Writing!!! On to Part 2!

This is one of the best books I have read in a LONG time! I truly loved this book. I was so devastated at the ending but I also understand why it had to end the way it did! Excellent writing for the author. I can't wait to read the second part!

My Heart

Kylah endured a lot in her childhood just to protect her sister. Her Grandmother should of been ashamed of herself to let that happen to her. Dame seemed to come in her life at the right time. Porshia needs to seek some counseling
