The Mile‑High Club wasn’t the sin that d*mned me… Falling for the devil was.
At 30,000 feet, I’m seconds from unraveling. Then he appears mid-panic. Silver hair, eyes like winter storms. “Breathe for me,” he orders. Low. Dangerous. Impossible to resist.
He takes me to a private room… My surrender traded for pleasure so dark I forget who I am. Then he vanishes. Without a name.
I think I’ll never see him again. Until the ghosts of my past drag me straight to his door.
Every clue in my family’s disappearance leads to one brutal name… Yuri Ivanov. Bratva billionaire. King of blood and secrecy. The stranger who owned me at thirty thousand feet.
Now he’s sitting across my desk. Those glacial daring me to unlearn him.
“Congratulations,” he murmurs. “You don’t just work for me, malyshka. You belong to me.”
I came chasing ghosts... Now I’m carrying something far worse— the devil’s baby. And if he ever learns the truth, he’ll burn the world just to keep me caged.

The story of Astrid and Yuri was wonderful. From the first page I was hooked. This one I could not put down. Romance, Drama and action kept you on the edge of you seat.
K.C. Crowne, you’ve done it again. Another top seller.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
It started so strong and completely sucked me in. The opening had great pacing, interesting setup, and I was genuinely interested. The tension, the mystery around her parents, and the introduction to the Ivanov world had me hooked right away.
But somewhere along the way, it just… lost me.
The mafia element, never fully delivered. It felt underdeveloped and not as intense or immersive as it could have been. There was so much potential for deeper world building, higher stakes, and more grit, but it didn’t really build up in a satisfying way. Instead of escalating, the story kind of plateaued and then fell flat.
The romance had its moments, and I didn’t hate the characters, but everything started to feel rushed or surface level compared to how strong the beginning was. It’s like the setup promised one kind of story, and the follow through just didn’t match that energy.
Overall, not a bad read, but definitely not what I was hoping for after such a good start.

*Dark Confession* is another installment in **K.C. Crowne’s Chicago Bratva series**, and while it *can* technically be read as a standalone, it definitely feels more immersive if you’re familiar with earlier books. Some of the side characters clearly have shared history, and there were moments early on where I felt like I was missing context, which led to a bit of confusion — not enough to derail the story, but noticeable.
The book opens with our FMC and MMC joining the **mile-high club** ✈️🔥 — a bold, attention-grabbing start. While it’s presented as spontaneous, the reader can pretty quickly tell that this encounter was **no accident**. Our MMC is calculating, powerful, and very much in control, which sets the tone for the rest of the book.
Our FMC is on a personal mission to uncover the truth about her **biological family**, a search that quickly ties her to the Bratva world in ways she never anticipated. Unsurprisingly, the MMC falls for her rather quickly, leaning into that instant-connection dynamic Crowne is known for. While the emotional development isn’t a slow burn, the chemistry is intense and consistent throughout.
Once she begins working for him, the FMC truly proves she’s more than just a love interest. She uncovers **discrepancies in his financial books that no one else has been able to detect**, immediately establishing her as highly intelligent and capable. This was one of my favorite aspects of the story — seeing her earn respect through skill and intelligence rather than just proximity to power. It added depth to her character and balanced the alpha dominance of the MMC nicely.
As the plot unfolds, secrets compound — including the **secret baby trope**, which fans of Crowne’s writing will likely expect. The trope is handled in a familiar way, fitting well within the Bratva romance framework, though it won’t feel groundbreaking if you’re well-versed in the genre. Still, it raises the emotional stakes and reinforces the possessive, protective instincts of the MMC.
Overall, *Dark Confession* is a **trope-heavy, fast-paced, and spicy Bratva romance** that delivers exactly what fans of K.C. Crowne come for: dominance, drama, and high heat. While it may not be the most emotionally complex installment in the series, it’s an entertaining read that fits comfortably into the Chicago Bratva world and will be best enjoyed by readers already invested in that universe.

I love KC Crowne and these mafia/Bratva stories. This one was good but not my favorite, it does have all the great mafia components I love.
Betrayal War Shoot outs Kidnapping Mile high club Touch her and die vibes And of course an hea to die for
This is Yuri and Astrid’s story. They meet on a flight to Paris that gets all steamy up in an airplane bathroom. Which I will say sounds like fun until you’ve been in an airplane bathroom. Ewww. lol I digress.
Yuri is the Bratva, he is all cold exterior, harsh, a negotiator when needed, a predator but also passionate, gentle, loving and protective. When he meets Astrid on a flight to Paris the sparks fly and he introduces her to the mile high club.
Astrid is a good girl on a mission to figure out what happened to her parents. She has all sorts of strings to pull but none of them make sense together. While she is in Paris she realizes she may have more than memories from the amazing experience with the Russian guy on her flight. Now she’s being offered a job at a company tied to her parents death and she doesn’t realize her new boss is none other than said hot Russian.
This was a great story as always. I love KC’s writing style. And this book was fun and not as dark as I anticipated it to be. Please read the trigger warnings as it is a mafia romance.
Betrayal, fighting, kidnapping, family drama all tied in one pretty little bow. Don’t forget a slash of instalust with a side of love I didn’t plan for.

Going into any brought book, I try to keep an open mind because all too often they can be pretty telegraphed, always the same. This one however, I thought I knew who the bad guy was, and maybe I was right, but the way they went about it was a little different. I fell in love with the fmc and MMC right away. I could tell they would have great chemistry. The side players also had excellent supporting roles in this story. It's funny how the bratva and all Mafia is always portrayed as the bad guy, the evildoers. But more often than not you find yourself rooting for them, falling in love with these characters who have their own special quirks, their own insecurities and needs that most people think they don't have because they run like machines. I think that is what makes them endearing. And once again KC has brought a fantastic story with a lot of spice, a lot of action, a lot of banter and a clever storyline. Everything melds perfectly into the story. I like the fact that this is a nice quick read, it doesn't drag on like a lot of books seem to do sometimes. Often they are overloaded with filler that really didn't lend itself to the story. But I'm never disappointed with this author's work. Every time they have an ark available, I snatch it up in a heartbeat! They never let me down and they always comes through. Bringing me endless book boyfriends and raising the bar for any actual man to attempt to reach.

Another Ivanov brother finds his perfect match, and while this is a series, it could still be read as a standalone. You’d be missing some parts of their story as a family and the background characters, but still doable. This started off with explosive chemistry that led straight into intrigue and danger. While they had a moment of chemistry to start, their relationship really halted after that and turned into a slow burn. There was danger, suspense and twists that were well done. Some were very predictable while others surprised me. I loved seeing them work as a family and the obvious love and loyalty they have for each other. The character arc for both the MC’s were good and you could see Astrid coming into her own confidence while Yuri started to soften only for her. There was some inconsistencies with the story and I wasn’t always sure where it was taking place. But overall it was well done and held my interest. No cheating but OW drama played a big role, no OM drama, virgin FMC, dual POV, surprise/hidden pregnancy, HEA and 2 adorable epilogues in the future. Looking forward to what’s next for this author!
Right from the start the writing reads like a series of short cinematic beats and quotable reflections. The sentences are polished, but the rhythm feels mechanical and the metaphors are a little generic, which gives it an AI-assisted feel. AI assisted writing has a certain rhythm. Once you recognize it in writing you instantly see it when it’s used anywhere else. You can’t ignore it. The rhythm and style distracts to much from the story.
Key signals: 1. Stacked short “beat” sentences The writing moves in short, dramatic fragments instead of natural flow. Example: Pain never leaves all at once. It lingers… 2. Philosophical one-liners (aphorisms) Lines sound like standalone quotes rather than character thoughts. Example: People call it the city of love. I call it unfinished business. 3. Generic metaphors The imagery works but could apply to almost any story, so it feels interchangeable. 4. Cinematic object focus Details like the boarding pass or espresso appear like props in a movie shot rather than something deeply tied to the character’s inner experience.
A memorable time in the mile-high club refuses to stay just a memory. Surprise pregnancies/babies and found families are a couple of my fav tropes; this one did not disappoint! I loved it!
Yuri is everything you want in a dark romance antihero. Cold, methodical. Charismatic, possessive, obsessive and morally gray. Astrid is strong, stubborn, highly intelligent, and fierce as she hunts for information about her parents’ deaths. In this story the author skillfully blends the harsh realities of the mafia world with the intensity of an age-gap, boss-employee dynamic and a happy ending that was so good it made my heart smile. If you're into dark romance filled with strong family dynamics, complex characters, sizzling sex, violence and suspense with a beautiful HEA, this book is absolutely worth reading. The other members of the Ivanov family left enough of an impression that I will definitely be reading their stories next.

Some things don't stay where you leave them. After an encounter in the "Mile High" club our FMC Astrid thinks all is in the past, but unexpected pregnancy changes all that. Astrid is offered her dream job and learns her mystery man is her new boss. Yuri's brothers also appear in this book giving it a strong family ties aspect. Yuri is the absolute perfect antihero. He has a well-hidden heart along with being cold, ruthless, obsessive. He is a complex morally grey character that I loved from the very beginning. Astrid's search for answers regarding her parent's death leads her into intrigue and danger. Yuri's world provides the bad guys and the story flows. There is a beautiful HEA, and it satisfies all the questions we have as to where life lead our couple. I am a huge fan of K C Crowne and this book doesn't disappoint. I caught myself reading when I should have been doing other things...it's that good. I absolutely recommend this book and all her others!!! Enjoy.

Astrid was orphaned at a young age, her parents dying in an accident. Her foster parents have always been there for her. She goes to Paris to find out who she is and do a little digging of her own?
She encounters, Yuri who notices her possibly having a panic attack. He helps her through it and then some, something about him makes her feel safe? After their tryst, she passes out and awakens already in Paris; Yuri gone with only the memories.
While investigating her past, Astrid makes a few discoveries, that possibly her parents accident was not one? The name Ivanov comes up, Astrid now has something to focus on.
Astrid is contacted by Ivanov for an interview, which is her chance but also.must be careful. Astrid also discovers that Yuri left a little present, two pink lines confirms it. Imagine her surprise when she goes to her interview and discovers Yuri is Yuri Ivanov!
It gets better, twisted, secrets and a dirty FBI agent, with a dash of betrayal. The author does not disappoint and you get a HEA.
Dark Confession: A Secret Baby Romance is a gripping, emotionally driven romance that blends intensity with heartfelt moments. The story pulls you in quickly and keeps the momentum strong, making it a true page-turner.
The characters feel layered and compelling, especially as secrets come to light and emotions run high. The balance between vulnerability and strength gives the romance real weight, and the pacing keeps the tension steady without overwhelming the emotional core of the story.
Content Note: This book includes adult romance themes, emotional intensity, and a secret baby storyline, intended for mature readers.
I’d recommend this to readers who enjoy high-emotion romance, secret baby tropes, and stories that combine drama with deep connection. If you like romances that feel intense yet ultimately satisfying, this one delivers.

Dark Confession pulled me in fast and did not let go. The opening scene is intense right from the start, and the chemistry between the characters is immediate and impossible to ignore. Yuri is dark, commanding, and completely captivating, while the heroine feels vulnerable yet strong in a way that makes you root for her from the beginning. I loved how the story balanced suspense with emotion, keeping the tension high without losing sight of the romance. The secret baby element adds real stakes, and watching Yuri go from cold and controlled to fiercely possessive was incredibly satisfying. This is a dark romance that leans into obsession and danger but still delivers a solid, rewarding happily ever after. If you enjoy intense billionaires, Bratva vibes, and high emotion with your spice, this one is absolutely worth the read 🔥💔❤️.

I loved this book and the characters. Their pasts are intertwined by blood and betrayal. He has known about her and the past ,since his father has been taking care of her since her parents death. When his father he took over, but in the back of his mind she was just a promise made and taken care of. When they meet in person, they don’t realize who the other is and have a mid flight encounter, that leaves them both breathless and connected even further. When she gets a request for a job, she goes not realizing that he is the person giving her the chance to reclaim her past and future at the same time. This brings to him starting to thawing out and finding that he can feel for someone other then his family, this scares him and her also. When the past comes calling and causes problems they work together with the family to take care of it, and along the way she drops her secret, and the everything changes. Their love grows to include their family and future family.
Dark Confession is a steamy Bratva romance that begins at thirty thousand feet during turbulence for MFC Astrid who is saved from a meltdown by a good looking silver fox who helps her breath through the worst of it, and later she officially becomes a member of the mile high club. After landing her mysterious savior had vanished while she still slept so all she has are memories of the stranger who she gave her virginity to. Five weeks and two pink lines later she is also now pregnant! I enjoyed this entertaining story full of secrets, mystery, surprises, intrigue, action, and passion that was a well written Immersive read with great characters who held me tightly until all that Bratva drama had played out to a satisfying conclusion.

This is Yuri and Astrid’s story. Astrid and Yuri meet on an airplane flight to Paris. Astrid headed to Paris looking for answers to the very mysterious deaths of her bio parents that still after all these years has not been solved, figured out, nothing! They meet do to her near panic condition on the flight. They end up in the bathroom and done deal, members of the mile high club. After landing Astrid wakes up to Yuri gone, no note, no nothing and neither one exchanged names, where they live, what they do, nothing! Plus, down the road a few weeks she discovers she is pregnant. I could not put this down I read it in one evening. Excellent story, that is fast paced full of danger, with Bratva, FBI, suspense and romance. I recommend this story. Great read. Astrid has a secret she’s hiding from the CFO she met on a flight (to Paris) and coincidentally is hired to work for. But unbeknownst to her, her secret is out.
I enjoyed this story and was connected and fully addicted right out of the gate. I loved both main characters. They’re strong, highly intelligent and believable. My only regret was that detailed descriptions were weak, especially for Astrid. Also it wasn’t difficult to detect who the mole was pretty much right away. In that regard there were no surprises and it was predictable. However that didn’t take away from my enjoyment. The story holds good drama and lots of steam (on repeat). The suspense is well conveyed and the techno babble gave the secondary character(s) believability and authenticity. I loved all the computer-speak and war strategy. Best of all it ends with a HEA.
This is the story of Astrid and Yuri. Yuri is, of course, mafia and owns a business. Astrid is a recent Harvard Grad who is traveling to Paris to unravel the mysterious deaths of her birth parents. When Astrid and Yuri meet in the plane it’s instant attraction and a trip to the mile high club.
Ummm, that part of the plot wasn’t a big hit for me. I’m not a big fan of the meet and have sex club in a matter of few minutes. I almost ended it right there and stopped reading, but I decided to push forward for at least another 50 pages or so, and I’m glad I did because I ended up reading the entire book and enjoying it very much.
I’m not going into great detail about the trials and tribulations of this relationship because there definitely were some. In the mafia people are always getting hurt or kidnapped. This book was no exception. 4.5 🌟🌟🌟🌟
I really enjoyed these two. Mafia themed but not over the top. I enjoyed the family and how protective they were of each other.
Astrid a nervous flyer joins the Mile High club with fellow partner Yuri who turns out to be her new boss.
Yuri was fantastic as a character. Protective, dominant and brutal when he has to be. But best of all he is very family orientated.
Astrid is very smart and a real asset to the company. She loves fiercely and accepting of who Yuri is. But that connection and chemistry is special. Actually the whole family dynamic was especially drawing.
So well done. I'm enjoying this author's book a great deal. Can't wait for more!.

What's not to love in this mafia story starting a meeting between Yuri and Astrid starting when ti get over terrified of flying they join the Mike high club, possibly never meet again. Well that's not what happened, she's pregnant and doesn't know who the father is but finding out he's her new boss. This is really a bigger problem for her as it's the same family could be responsible for her parents death. Not telling him he's going to be a father and Yuri's enemies tell him instead, kidnap her and use her as leverage to take down the whole Ivanov's mafia family down. Another great story, this author really knows how to keep your interest throughout. Thanks to Booksprout yet again and and I am definitely voluntary leaving this review.
I’ve read at least nineteen other books by K.C. Crowne, including multiple titles in the Chicago Bratva Series. Some are stronger than others, and Dark Confession is unfortunately my least favorite so far.
Based on the synopsis, I expected a story driven by chemistry between a younger heroine searching for answers about her family and an older, silver-haired mafia boss who may be connected to those events. The setup promised sex, tension, and intrigue.
After the opening chapter, the chemistry between Astrid and Yuri quickly fades, and their relationship never develops in a way that feels organic or earned.
I struggled to care about the characters or their outcomes, and for me, the overall reading experience never rises above feeling flat despite the premise’s potential. While the book markets itself as an age-gap, mafia/Bratva, secret-baby romance, these elements are mostly superficial. The age gap is barely acknowledged, the mafia/Bratva aspects carry little real danger or agency, and there is almost no tension. The story follows a formulaic, mechanical approach. Events never fully connect, the stakes feel muted, and for me, it never felt engaging.

A fast paced story perfectly garnished with love and war!
Astrid and Yuri, their story starts on a plane flight to Paris, then she is offered a job with the Ivanovs - she takes it to find out more about how her parents got killed - but all that gets side swept by the fact that her new boss is Yuri (the attraction between them is still super hot!) Then the plot gets thicker thanks to a dirty FBI agent who is in cahoots with Christian de la Rosa - a Cartel boss wants his revenge on the Ivanovs . And if that isn’t enough there is a mole in the Ivanov’s staff who wants to burn down the whole Ivanov empire and raise as the new ruler of Chicago!. Great read, till the oh so romantic ending!.

This is Yuri and Astrid’s love story. She’s an orphan looking for information on her birth parents. She was raised by a foster family who was loving, but she always wanted to know what happened to her birth parents. In her quest to do so she finds a lot of information, seemingly shady about their death. She also meets, and gets entangled with a dangerous and powerful man. He’s a mafia boss. They get entangled and along the way fall for each other. There are other powerful criminals intervening and trying to steal part of his empire. There’s a war, but the others don’t succeed. They finally get their HEA.
Their Destined Forever - Nothing prepared me for the whirlpool of emotions I went through whilst reading this masterpiece written by K.C. Crowne. The story grabbed my attention from the first chapter and took me on one heck of a rollercoaster ride, as the plot thickened with surprises and twists, that had me on the edge of my seat. My mind was blown, my heart beat out of my chest and I felt I was on this cliff shaking like a leaf in a windstorm, waiting to see how the story would end. I can say without a shadow of doubt, that this book is deserves a place on your TBR list.

It felt like a certain writing structure had been followed, there was no heart in the story. There were plot holes, inconsistencies, even very obvious grammar errors. Events didn't flow, scenes skipped chaotically sometimes, the whole "hacker" thing seemed very unrealistic, the age-gap was not a thing that was emphasised in any way in this book so it might as well not be there, not to mention there is a major plot hole you might or might not notice revolving that. I pushed through to the end of the book, because I was sorry about the time I had already spent on it. I though I might as well finish it and see if it will recover at some point - it did not.
