(Built for Small-Town Supernatural, Romantic Thriller, and Gothic Fantasy readers)
September 2016.
Almost twenty years after a summer that changed everything, the kids of Blackshore come home.
Once infamous for missing children and pirate legends, Blackshore has spent years turning its dark past into a tourist attraction. No disappearances. No sightings. No reason to believe the stories were ever real.
Until now.
When old friends reunite, unresolved emotions surface and a spark ignites between two of them—one that seems to awaken something buried deep within the town itself. Eras begin to bend into their reality. And the dead start to rise, drawn to a love story they refuse to miss.
As past and present collide, Blackshore reveals the truth it has always nothing here is accidental. When love sparks in this town, legends don’t stay dead—and something long asleep is beginning to wake.
A small-town supernatural thriller filled with romance, ghostly legends, and dark coastal folklore—perfect for readers who love atmospheric mysteries, emotional slow-burn relationships, and haunted seaside towns.
I’m Tamara Rector, a self-published author from Canada who loves writing about complicated people and the type of stories that keep you up at night. My books include the Skyeholm series, House on a Hill, and my newest, The Legend of Blackshore. When I’m not writing, I’m usually chasing after my two daughters, curled up with coffee, or daydreaming into different worlds.
This story just keeps getting better. Fighting off the evil in Blackshore as teens wasn't enough. Now it's coming back for them. Pulling at those who escaped, the town at least, bringing them all together again. The question is will they be stong enough to win this time or are they too broken.?
The first book was a wild ride, this one is that and so much more.
This was very interesting. The whole ghosts threw me off for a moment there because they came from different timelines. The Pirate returning was unexpected and his connection to Jamie was a little shocking! I feel like I somehow always knew it but didn’t at the same time. I’m definitely a fan of Jamie. Nothing against Jesse really. Jamie just knew exactly how to treat Autumn and knew just what she needed and they were adorable together. Curious to know how the story continues in book 3.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of book two, which meant I could dive straight back into the eerie coastal town steeped in folklore and heart-pounding tension.
When I read book one, I described it as having a blend of The Goonies and Scooby-Doo vibes, but after finishing book two, I can see why so many readers compare the series to IT by Stephen King. The tone is darker, heavier, and far more emotionally intense than I first expected.
The Rising of Blackshore jumps years into the future, reuniting us with the teens we once knew as they return home to the place where they fought to survive. It doesn’t take long for the tension to resurface. Some things should stay buried in the past, but for these now adults, the past refuses to let them go.
Everything I loved about book one is amplified here. The world-building once again pulls you in completely only this time, it leaves you emotionally winded. The stakes feel higher, the emotions sharper, and the impact deeper.
Autumn is an absolute powerhouse. Watching her confront her trauma while still pursuing the life she’s always dreamed of is both inspiring and emotionally authentic. I felt such a strong connection to her character that seeing her push forward and overcome what haunts her hit hard, in the best possible way.
Autumn’s two love interests, Jamie and Jesse, couldn’t be more different. Jesse carries his trauma in a way that consumes him. He turns to addiction, often seeming like a shadow of who he once was. Though he clearly loves Autumn deeply, he struggles to express that love in healthy ways. There’s something deeply heart-breaking about him, you can see the pain eating away at him, even when his intentions are good.
Jamie, in contrast, represents steadiness and security. His long, shared history with Autumn, including the trauma they endured together, creates a bond that feels beautifully written. Their connection feels layered, and incredibly moving. It’s impossible not to root for them.
All three characters are raw and deeply human. They’ll pull conflicting emotions from you, sympathy, frustration, hope, heartbreak, often all at once. And that’s what makes this story so powerful.
I genuinely cannot overstate how much I loved this book. There’s something almost addictive about the author’s writing, once you start, putting it down feels impossible. The way she explores trauma and healing is unflinching yet handled with such care and respect. The emotions are gritty and honest, but never exploitative. It’s clear this story was written with empathy and understanding for those who struggle with trauma and addiction.
The Rising of Blackshore is officially my first five-star read of 2026. I can’t recommend this series enough if you’re drawn to stories filled with deeply buried secrets, simmering tension, and characters who fight to stay afloat even when everything threatens to drag them back under.
ARC Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Now Available The Rising of the Blackshore by Tamara Rector
First of all, Tamara… thank you for trusting me with book two. Seriously. Because you didn’t just hand me a book — you basically shoved me back into Blackshore and said “Good luck getting out.”
And honestly? I didn’t even try.
I loved the first book. I really did. But this one? This one crawled under my skin, unpacked a suitcase, and decided it lives there now.
Somewhere along the way I stopped being a reader and started feeling like a quiet little ghost wandering through Blackshore myself. Watching Autumn. Watching everything unfold. Watching love grow in that slow, fragile way that makes you hold your breath because you’re terrified something will break it.
And trust me — in this town, things do break.
I wish I could say more. I really do. But spoilers are the literary equivalent of haunting people in the worst possible way, and I refuse to become that annoying ghost that ruins the story for everyone else. So you’ll have to suffer through the mystery yourself.
What I can say is this: I started the book and basically forgot the world existed. The only reason I put it down at all was because my body decided to betray me with a fever. Very rude timing. If my brain had been fully operational, I would’ve inhaled this entire book in one sitting like some kind of feral sea-witch.
This story is haunting in the best way. It messes with your head, plays psychological games, drags the past into the present, and wraps everything in this eerie sea-soaked atmosphere that makes you constantly question what’s real and what isn’t.
It’s friendship that refuses to die, even when life tries really hard to kill it. It’s love that finally finds the courage to speak. It’s danger creeping through the cracks. It’s trauma that somehow turns into a bond strong enough to drag people back to the same place over and over again — whether they want to return or not.
And Blackshore? Blackshore doesn’t let you go easily.
Tamara has this almost unfair talent for taking childhood wounds, secrets, ghosts of the past — literal or not — and weaving them into something that pulls you in deeper the further you read.
By the end of it I realized something slightly concerning: I didn’t want to leave that town.
So yes. Five magical, slightly unhinged, psychological mind-game, sea-salted stars from me.
If you like your fantasy with a dark edge, soaked in mystery, tangled in emotions, and just a little bit psychologically disturbing — congratulations. Blackshore is waiting for you.
I cannot even explain how excited I was to be able to read book 2 after reading and loving the first.
Seeing all of our favourite characters and Jesse come back 20 years later giving off the true IT vibes was incredible, seeing them all slot back into each others lives gave me life, it was truly incredible, the vibes, the banter, the sorrow and heartbreak and the healing was out of this world.
I honestly don't want to say too much because I have SO MUCH to say but I don't want to spoil it for anyone, just know that everything that happens, really does have a deeper meaning, experiencing these things with the person your destined to be with just doesn't happen to everyone and when it does you don't ask questions, you don't think about it all that much because it doesn't matter. You are with your person, and they are the light you seek and they are all you need. God I'm getting teary even thinking about it.
Autumn was me, moved away to get away from the trauma of a past life, only to end up back in that very same place with the trauma piled on, fighting alone through it all when you thought you'd always been with that person, it's hard and painful and memories are too much.
Jesse, my heart does go out to him, it really does, to be haunted by things you have no control over all because you found a ship in a bottle as a toddler, to have been broken over and over and not able to put the pieces back together, but I will never let him be my favourite character, because I have dated him, I've seen the damage it causes and I can never allow myself to let it be ok.
Jamie, as perplexed as anyone as to why he let himself be talked into coming to the place that broke him, that was never safe for him, that was never a true home and watching him make it is home, because home isn't a place it's the people we meet along the way.
side note - me and Tanner *Jessie's girl, I wish that I had Jessie's girl*
I am so excited to for book 3 and I could not be more grateful to Tamara for letting me be on this journey with her.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was an absolutely phenomenal read. After finishing Book 1, I was beyond excited to dive back into the world of Blackshore, and this sequel did not disappoint. Seeing the five teenagers twenty years later—now adults carrying the weight of everything they endured—added such depth to the story. The lingering trauma from Blackshore feels real and lasting, and I loved watching them reunite. There’s something powerful about seeing friendships that were forged in darkness reconnect years later, still bound by shared memories and unhealed wounds. The writing itself is beautifully done. There’s an eerie, almost haunting atmosphere that lingers on every page. You can feel the characters’ emotions so clearly—the grief, the fear, the guilt, the love. One of the hardest parts to read was how the town of Blackshore continues to downplay the trauma, turning tragedy into tourism and legends instead of allowing the past to truly rest. It adds a layer of frustration and realism that makes the story hit even harder.
Autumn’s growth is especially inspiring. Watching her fight through her trauma and push forward to achieve her dreams shows such strength and resilience. Her journey feels earned and deeply emotional.
Jamie’s story is incredibly heartfelt. His love for Autumn shines through in such a steady, grounding way. Their relationship feels safe, secure, and built on years of shared history, which makes their connection even more meaningful.
Jesse’s storyline is devastating in a very real way. Seeing how he has channeled his trauma into addiction and continues to battle his demons is heartbreaking. His struggle feels raw and honest, a reminder that not everyone heals in the same way—or at the same pace.
Blackshore has a way of completely pulling you in and refusing to let go. This book was truly unputdownable, and the emotional weight of it lingers long after you finish. I’m so sad it’s over and already impatiently waiting for Book 3. This is the kind of story that stays with you for a long time.
This story had me completely enchanted from start to finish. If you love small-town mysteries wrapped in supernatural lore, emotional reunions, and a haunting coastal atmosphere, this one absolutely delivers.
Blackshore is the kind of town that feels alive with secrets. Nearly twenty years after a summer that changed everything, the former kids of Blackshore return home—only to find that the past never truly stayed buried. What begins as a reunion quickly turns into something far more mysterious as old emotions resurface, timelines begin to blur, and the town’s eerie legends start creeping back into reality.
The atmosphere in this book is incredible. The author builds such a vivid setting with ghostly folklore, pirate legends, and a seaside town full of history that refuses to stay quiet. I loved how the supernatural elements slowly unfolded, blending perfectly with the emotional tension between the characters.
The romance adds another beautiful layer to the story. It’s a slow-burn connection that feels natural and heartfelt, and somehow their love seems tied to the very heartbeat of Blackshore itself. Watching the past and present collide while something ancient awakens beneath the surface kept me completely hooked.
Mysterious, romantic, eerie, and deeply atmospheric—this is a perfect read for fans of gothic fantasy, supernatural thrillers, and haunting small-town legends. I didn’t want to leave Blackshore by the final page.
Omw Tamara this novel was beyond what I was expecting. It's a fantastic read. I love how you brought Jamie, autumn, Felix, tanner and Jessie back 20years later now they grow up. The plot and setting the stage for this novel was breathing. One can imagine each and every scene, emotion they felt. My heart ached for everything autumn had to endure at Jessie's hand. But like the fighter she was she got through it scars and all and became the doctor she was destined to be. I loved how the love Jessie had for autumn all those years just grew and grew. And finally she saw it for herself. I can imagine how breathtaking she was in her dress at the ball. No wonder Jessie felt his heart stop. And the scene in the cave between them the loving words melted my heart. I can't say more Tamara cause I want readers to experience the novel for themselves. The joy, sadness and love story and the way the sea came to life. It's like you breathed life into each character and scene please tell me this is not the end. This series should be a movie really I can see it. Thank you again for allowing me to be part of your writing journey. Look forward to reading many more of your novels.
The Rising of Blackshore is dark, emotional, and deeply unsettling in the best way. This is not horror built on jump scares. It is horror rooted in trauma, memory, and what happens when a town refuses to let its past rest.
Autumn’s story is heartbreaking and honest. Watching her return to a place that turned her pain into folklore was genuinely hard to read, but it never felt exploitative. Her growth, especially learning that love does not have to hurt to be real, is powerful. Jamie was such a grounding presence, and their relationship felt safe, steady, and earned.
Jesse’s storyline is devastating. There is no easy redemption here, just the reality of a man shaped by addiction, guilt, and something darker that never fully lets him go. It is painful, but incredibly well done.
The town of Blackshore might be the most disturbing part of the book. The way it commercializes trauma and feeds its own legends makes the ending hit hard, especially when it becomes clear the curse is not truly broken, just waiting to rise again.
Heavy, haunting, and emotionally rich. Read the content warnings, take your time, and expect this one to stick with you long after you finish
Thank you Tamara for the ARC book it was such creeping intresting and fun read . Enjoyed a lot
This story begins 12 years after the group left Blackshore in 1997. Time, friendships, and relationships pulled everyone onto different paths, but somehow they all return to Blackshore in the same month. It doesn’t feel like coincidence—it feels planned, as if the Tide itself is waking from a long sleep. As the story unfolds, Jamie and Autumn find themselves drawn back to each other, and strange things begin to happen. Ghosts rise, almost like they’re celebrating a love story straight out of a dark fairytale. Slowly, the Tide starts taking hold of everyone on its list. Jesse and a few others try to fight against it and stop the Tide’s plan, but the pull of Blackshore is stronger than they expected. The story ends on a cliffhanger, leaving you wondering what will happen when the Tide fully rises.
This book my fav of 2026 till now I will surely reread this it’s addicting. I want next book to read asap I had finished this book when will be next book coming I am eager to read what happen next…thank you again for such thrilling book.
“If you hear the waves whisper your name, don’t answer back.” The sequel, The Rising of Blackshore, was a slow burn… building up suspense and mystery. You knew something big was going to happen just not when. And the story had a very eerie feeling. Also — ghosts. Lots of them. Small town legends that give the whole thing this really creepy, haunting vibe.
Time passed since the first book ended and I enjoyed watching the characters grow from teenagers to adults. These aren’t kids fumbling through life anymore — they’re adults now, dealing with real, messy, complicated feelings and problems. Watching that transformation play out was genuinely one of my favorite parts. Some of them are healing from things that happened before, and the way that journey is written feels real. And I was really rooting for some of them!
If you loved the first book, read this one — you won’t regret it! The cliffhanger at the end…
Just like book 1, book 2 has great pacing. With a mixture of short and long chapters and an engaging plot it keeps pulling you back. I was raised to always bring a book with me when going anywhere, you never know if people will run late or you'll be stuck in a line and why not spend those minutes reading? This is the perfect book for that, where I can pick it up and put it down. We have the same perspective jumping from book 1 that I loved. It's similar but has enough new things that it doesn't feel like a rehash of book 1, instead it builds on everything we learned and makes us reconsider what we thought we knew.
I don't want to get into to many spoilers, but I can say if you liked book 1 you will like book 2. I look forward to finishing the trilogy when the next book comes out.
Thank you to the author for providing this free digital ARC of The Rising of Blackshore in exchange for my honest review. Phenomenal! This is the second book in The Blackshore Trilogy, and I already can’t wait for the next installment. Nearly twenty years have passed since the events of the first book, and now the Blackshore kids return home. The past and present collide in ways that remind you that nothing in Blackshore ever happens by accident. The writing is strong, and every character feels vivid and memorable. Autumn was my favorite her presence really stood out. The atmosphere throughout the story was fantastic, and it’s one of those books that stayed with me long after I finished it. The tide will call, and I will answer. I loved this one and would recommend it to any reader, especially those who enjoy supernatural thrillers.
"The Rising of Blackshore” by Tamara Rector is a 5-star supernatural thriller! Set 20 years after the events of the first book, Autumn, Jamie, Jesse, and the rest of the gang are drawn back to Blackshore.
I really liked the first book in this trilogy, but I absolutely loved the second. Everything that made the first book enjoyable is present again, but this time the story feels more intense and I felt more connected to the characters. The story is told from the same three perspectives as the first book. There is enough reflection on the past to allows readers to see what has happened over the last 20 years, and we especially get to see what Autumn has had to endure.
And that ending... talk about a cliffhanger! Now I am impatiently waiting for the final book.
Thanks to Tamara Rector for providing me with the opportunity to read this book for free and share my honest review.
Reviewed by Dee Layton on behalf of the Plot Thickens Book Club. Title: The rising of Blackshore Author:Tamara Rector Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I want to start by saying if you haven't read the first one in this series please read it because it will help you understand some of the things in this book. I absolutely love this series it is an absolutely amazing series. I love how some of the characters from the first book were brought back in this book which was nice to see them. Tamara always writes such in-depth books which I love to read she has multiple books but this one right here with the sea and the folktales it's just beautiful together. Overall this is a wonderful book I absolutely loved everything about it and cannot wait to see how she does book three in the series.
We’re back with the friend group that went through this insane ordeal nearly twenty years early. I was yelling at Autumn from the very first chapter, DO NOT GO BACK TO BLACKSHORE! & Not only Autumn, somehow they all ended up back for various reasons at the exact same time. Coincidence? I think not…
These characters deal with their past traumas and trying to navigate through adulthood made this am enjoyable read. There are times when the second book in a series doesn’t hit as hard as the first one. That was definitely not the case in this scenario, book 2 was amazing and it has just magnified my interest in continuing this series. The ending definitely love me wanting more! Perfect for fans of supernatural horror stories that stick with you well after the last page.
This book pulled me into the world of Blackshore so quickly. The atmosphere feels dark and intense, and I loved the constant feeling that something bigger was unfolding beneath everything happening on the surface.
What really made this story stand out to me were the characters. They feel raw, determined, and complex in a way that makes you want to keep turning the pages to see what they’ll do next. I found myself really invested in their journeys and the choices they had to make.
Overall, this was such an immersive read for me. The tension, the emotion, and the way the story slowly reveals itself kept me hooked. If you enjoy darker fantasy worlds with strong characters and high stakes, this is definitely one to add to your TBR. 📚✨
I absolutely loved this book. The storyline was so smooth that I got further in the book than i thought I did.
I didn't want to put this book down. I love the chicken names Jamie came up with I laughed so hard at them then had to share them with my friend.
I love that this book further explains the legends of Blackshore. All the aspects of this book are so believable.I loved getting to know the characters more and seeing what they did with their lives.
I would and will recommend this book. Along with the first one in the series, I can't explain how amazing this book was.
I was honoured enough to receive an arc of this book!
Now this story hit every nostalgic, broken down bone in my body. The way everyone suddenly appears back in the very place where it all went down when they were teens? Phenomenal. Bringing together the two people I wanted together the most in book one? Incredible. Bringing back the horrific legends and tales of the pirate, bringing the ex back from the dead, AND LEAVING IT AS A ENDING THAT MAKES ME WANT MORE?!
The Rising Of Blackshore is a must read book for anyone who loves old ghost stories coming to life. It had me crying, laughing, cooing and also screaming. You have been warned. May the tide of whisper your name as you read. 😉🌊
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
20 years later, Autumn, Felix, Jamie, Jesse, Noah, and Tanner, and all drawn back to the town of their teenage nightmares... coincidence....or divine timing?
A tale of two lovers unfold whilst some seriously weird stuff is going down in Blackshore - what is real? What is conjured up by the sea? What is simply a figment of their imaginations?
The story telling in this second instalment of Blackshore's supernatural history left me emotionally wrecked. I cried. I wept. I bawled. I sobbed. Not only that, but I cheered, I laughed, I rolled my eyes, I gasped, and I tossed my iPad down in disbelief!
I genuinely couldn’t put these down — I ended up flying through both books.
The writing pulls you in in a way that makes you feel like you’re right there with the characters. The emotional depth, the tension, and especially the character growth all felt very real and stayed with me even after I finished.
This series also got me out of a reading slump, which doesn’t happen often, so that alone says a lot.
Knowing this is a self-published series made it even more impressive. The books are available on Amazon, and I highly recommend giving them a chance if you’re looking for something immersive and emotionally engaging.
I’m already counting down to the third book coming out this fall.
Sweet baby Jesus! I knew this one was gonna take me on a rollercoaster of emotions but damn! I was very blessed to receive an arc copy of this book and I was so excited to start This story gives us love and sorrow and tragedy and of course an outstanding ending leading into the next book! I felt so torn between Jamie and Jesse You want to root for both you want both to get their happy endings but it’s difficult to choose a side and I refuse! I can’t wait to see how this whole thing ends it’s truly an amazing story
Twenty years later we find ourselves back in Blackshore when for reasons unknown to them, our characters are all once again in their childhood home. We learn of their rise to adulthood and their troubles along the way. This novel is everything the first part was and more. I was deeply involved with each one feeling as they did. This is a Rollercoaster of emotions and fear, live and loss. Do yourself a favor and grab this for yourself. You won't regret the ride to The Rising if Blackshore. Another fabulous read from Tamara Rector!!
I received this book as an ARC and let me just say, I’m so excited to be a part of this team. Tamara has a style that weaves a story so good, you feel like you’re standing in the middle of it. This story was phenomenal! Girl, where do these thoughts come from? So unique and intriguing. I want to go to to this town for and be a tourist. The way all these teens just suddenly appear after all this time? This story was intense, and awesome. I’m still on the fence with team Jesse and team Jamie! I need the next book now please! 😊❤️
My favorite quote from this book is. “I’d kiss every scar a thousand times if it meant you’d only remember how it felt when I kissed them.”
Such an easy fun read. I truly enjoyed reading about the 6 grown adults after 20 years come back together. They don’t know why only the pirate does!(: I receive this as an arc. And I am grateful i could read book 2(: now I can’t wait for book 3 to come out and see what happens.
I was able to read this book and this author never disappoints you you see all the kids years later when they are adults coming back to blackshire where things had happened to them now there are triggers this author was able to hit one of mine so please watch your mental health but it didn’t stop me I had to read this new book by the author and yes she left me with wanting more thank you so much Tamara for some awesome reading hard to put down books
“The Rising of Blackshore” by Tamara Rector takes us back to Blackshore twenty years later, where the town has turned its dark past into tourist attractions but the secrets are far from buried. This supernatural thriller is haunting, mysterious, and layered with tension. I loved the blend of eerie suspense and romance, and I’m still torn between Team Jamie and Team Jesse. A strong second installment that proves Blackshore isn’t finished with its secrets yet.
I jumped at the chance to read an ARC of The Rising of Blackshore, and it did not disappoint. Returning to Blackshore felt like catching up with old friends—if those friends lived in a world of constant pirate threats and eerie hauntings! This sequel perfectly balances romance with a unique, era-bending plot. I was hooked from page one, right up until that shocking ending that left me speechless. I need the next book immediately!
