When mysterious fires begin plaguing the little mountain town of Big Lake, Arizona, it doesn’t take Sheriff Jim Weber long to realize that a serial arsonist is on the loose and has to be stopped before somebody dies or the entire forest goes up in flames. With the help of C.C. Callahan, a beautiful Deputy Fire Marshal, the sheriff begins the hunt while dealing with an upstart newspaper publisher hell-bent on smearing his good name and ruining his reputation. As the fires continue, fingers of blame are pointed and everybody in Big Lake wonders whose home or business will be the next to burn.
The book stays true to the series. We get a new character, a fire investigator, which shakes things up. I was glad to see Larry Parks still get some time, though not much.
I can't stand the relationship with Robin. I'm not sure why, but I really hope it ends.
Great story.... With the same awesome characters and some new ones. The author certainly has a way with words. He is so clever and funny. Onto the next Big Lake saga....
This was a very interesting story where I actually learned a few things. This story was a little disappointing for me, even though it was a good story line as I was pretty sure I had figured out who the arsonist was. And that was the first time I had that happen.
I really can't say enough about this book and series. I cannot put these books down. These books have lots of suspense and excitement to keep then interesting. I highly recommend these books and series
A firebug is loose in Big Lake! So far no one has been hurt but how long will that last? Then Jimmie's childhood house burns down. When 2 teenagers set fire to a house the wrong boy is accused. When the two boys who did do it hit an elk and wreck their daddy's car, one is killed and the other blames it all on his older brother. Then the county records office is set on fire. An old, sick rancher commits suicide after setting every building on the ranch on fire, everyone is ready to blame it all on him. But Jimmie doesn't buy it. Who is really to blame? That answer will shock the entire community. Highly recommended.
Someone, or someones, wants to have a hot time in the old town tonight. They start with small things and nobody is getting injured. It escalates from there and has the town on edge, especially Mayor Wingate. There is a new scandal sheet in town intent on slamming Sheriff Weber and the Fire Chief. Comic relief, you know. They bring in a fire investigator and start working through the list of potential suspects. One of the fires destroys the sheriff's childhood home. What possible motive could there be? Another enjoyable read in the Big Lake series.
THEY JUST INTRODUCED A NEW CHARACTER AND I'M HATING HIM ALREADY; I CAN JUST PUT UP WITH CHET NOW ANOTHER THAT'S WORST THAN HE IS. GRRrrrr! I LIVE IN A BIG CITY AND I WANNA TELL JIMMY WE'VE GOT WILDLIFE LIKE YOU'D NEVER BELIEVE. DEER, RACOON, TURKEYS, AND GROUNDHOGS ALL THE TIME WITH ONE BROWN BEAR CAUGHT NEAR DOWNTOWN. WE HAD A MOM AND HER CUBS GOING INTO SEARS OUT AT THE MALL, I WISH I COULD GET AWAY FROM ALL THIS WILDLIFE, HERE IN THE CITY. ;D
While most people have good morals, try to do the right things, and live a decent life, all it takes is one person to ruin it, sometimes more than one. When Big Lake is hit with several fires, there are many who are working to figure out who's behind them. Add a few devastating situations, and things get complicated real quick. It's not a story to be missed. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and author.
This story was a head scratcher. I didn't know who did it. The story line and introduction of new Fire Investigator was very creatively done. Thank you for Girl Power in this story. The touching story of Jake and his background was heartbreaking. Great read
Sheriff Weber has his hands full with a serial arsonist. The ending is not only sad but alludes to the fact that even in a small-town residents have unrevealed characteristics that can surprise us.
Big Lake Burning An excellent read! Always appreciate the tenacity of Sheriff Weber and the wisdom he applies from real life. Nicely done Author Nick Russell! Thank you!
Big Lake is always good for a crime mystery! Trying to figure it out is something quite hard. But with the help of our sheriff, we can figure it out. Very exciting and fun to read!
Good story of the small town sheriff and the community he serves with yet another series of confrontations that keep you involved. The interplay seems real and reminds me of situations in life that could have been true in big lake.
It seems Nick spends as much time in each new book reviewing and rehashing old material from previous writings as he does in presenting new material. By this time in the series readers should be quite familiar with the characters and their histories.
It was good all the way through! I thought it was ___ but then I didn't. It was amazing how Weber figured it out. Great book! Can't wait to read the rest.
