This might be my favorite book of the series!!!!! Goalies are just built different! I'm so sad this series is over. I absolutely loved every one! The nicknames were a little ridiculous but it didn't take away my love for the books! this series is so underrated I don't know why more people don't talk about it!!
Grant! Big ol broody goalie whose whole life was only the game. But when she walked into his life with a problem for herself and her daughter, he opened it right up for them. Oh I loved his story and seeing him find more than the game!
✨Summary✨ Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️.75 HEA: Yes, no 3rd act breakup POV: dual Tropes: Hockey Goalie, Single Mom, Forced Proximity, Grumpy/Sunshine, Accidental Pregnancy, Protective MMC, DV Survivor FMC
Heather Lucas is a single mom just trying to make a home in a new city near her sister Margot (from Offside Hearts). When her housing falls through, she’s left scrambling for a backup plan. Grant Parker, a grumpy, antisocial goalie, barely even thinks twice about offering Heather and her daughter, April, a place to stay. With Heather and April living with him, the strict routine Grant adheres to starts to crumble…and he’s not even mad about it. His walls come down as he slowly falls for both of them. But Heather has a lot of emotional baggage to work through before she can fully let herself trust and love again. Together, the icy goalie and the wary single mom build something beautiful, working through the bumps in the road as they go.
I knew that when Grant fell, he would fall hard. The man who pretty much only grunted in previous books was suddenly rearranging his entire life for Heather without hesitation. The way he treated Heather and April was incredibly sweet and patient. He consistently showed them that he truly saw them and cared in a thousand small ways. I absolutely melted when he learned how to sew just to mend April’s constant holes from being an energetic nine-year-old, simply to ease some of Heather’s burdens.
Heather is a survivor of an abusive relationship with April’s father. She escaped and worked hard to create a better life for herself and her daughter, and she’s done a good job at it. If abuse is a trigger for you, it’s important to note that this storyline is present, and the ex does reappear toward the end of the book.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and struggled to find much wrong with it. The writing and characters were solid. I think this is the last book in the series and if this is the final book in the series, it was a satisfying ending!
I have really been looking forward to Grants story, he has always been a bit of an enigma in the other books of the series which has intrigued me to the sort of man he would be when he finally found his true love and he didn't disappoint. Dedicated, passionate and adorable. He had to wait for all his team mates to get their HEA before it was his turn but it was worth the wait.
Loved this one, and this series. Gotta love a goalie but extra claps for a more mature couple who go outside of their comfort zones for those they love.
Trigger warning - domestic abuse survivor and some stories/memories are shared on the page.
This book was enjoyable. The characters were brilliantly written, and I loved how they were written and developed during the book. The plot was easy to read, and I was absolutely hooked from the first page. I loved the connection that Heather and Grant had how they interacted throughout the book.
i have read a few other books by this author since this book is part of the love and hockey series and i have read all of the prior books. i enjoyed most of the stories about each couple, though some were definitely better than others. this is a sports hockey romance packed with a lot of spice once the couple gets together. there are grumpy/ sunshine and secret romance tropes.
when this one was announced i was excited because i was interested in learning more about Grant, the stoicly grumpy goalie and almost ocd with such structured routines and Heather, Margo's sister and single mom. we met them both in earlier books as minor role background characters. Heather decided to move to Denver to be closer to her sister Margo, who is now married to Noah and pregnant (this couple was introduced in the first book), with her young daughter April who esctatic since she is a huge hockey fan and will now get to watch her uncle and his team play more often. when the plans for the place she is expecting to move into fall through, Heather freaks out, and Grant offers to let them stay with him. this shocks his entire team since Grant rarely even socializes with them, so to move an almost stranger and her kid in with him was totally uncharacteristic of him and right away it was obvious that he cared about her, especially when he starts deviating from his structured lifestyle just to spend time with Heather.
they both are drawn to each other right away, despite his structured stoic grumpiness and her guarded i have been hurt in the past and also do what is best for my daughter behavior. so at first they awkwardly try to supress any thoughts or feelings for each other, but then they cross a major line and there is really no denying it after that. once they do, it is obvious that they are clearly both interested in more than just some fun with each other, but decide to keep things between the two of them rather than tell her daughter and his teammates. i get why they did not want to tell everyone right away, but honestly Heather did not have anything to worry about because Grant was so good with April and definitely proved how much he loved them and would do whatever it took to protect them from April's father when he conveniently resurfaced right after Grant and Heather went public with their relationship.
once again there is cheesiness with the nicknames, dirty talk, ahole obsessions, and exaggerations of size that is a little unbelievable. while i get that these guys are muscular athletes, i find it hard to believe that every single muscle on each guy on this team are the largest any of their girls have ever seen and that all of the couples have basically the same relationship in private like cut and paste. i guess if you like those moments in one book, you like them in all of them, and if you find them to be repetitive or cheesy, likewise.
while there is some drama towards the end of the book as there always seems to be in romance books that usually temporarily breaks up the happy couple to get in the way of their HEA until they realize they cannot live without each other, thankfully that did not happen in this book and instead of leaving, Heather allows Grant to help her deal with her problems with her ex. so at least they do not break up, the drama gets resolved fairly quickly, the HEA does come sooner than later, and they even get an unexpected surprise (a good one). i was glad the epilogue moved forward to give more of a look on that part so we got to see their future and watch things happily progress with their family. this was probably one of my favorite couples/ stories/ books out of the whole series. i have heard it is supposedly the last book of the series, so if it is, i can say i enjoyed it and overall it was pretty good.
This was a sweet book with some spice. (Possible spoilers ahead) If you’re looking for a feel-good book, without a lot of immature drama, then you’ll probably like this one. Personally, I didn’t think the book needed to be this long. 🤷♀️
Both MCs were likable. I will admit, for the first 1/3 of this book, I thought H sounded/acted like a robot. I guess that was the point to his character development.
The plot was simple, h and her 9 year old daughter needed a place to stay for a bit. H has a big house, so he invited them to stay with him. H plays for the NHL with h’s brother-in-law. h has an abusive ex, so that’s her main trauma. (I think she was split from her ex for 9 years)
The first half of the book is the two MCs getting to know each other- aka friends to lovers. There is open door spice (after 50%) H has a bit of a filthy mouth on him. 😂
H really is a BIG GREEN FLAG. He’s not a playboy. H’s trauma is his parents died a few years beforehand, so he’s closed off from everybody- except h and her daughter.
The last half of the book picks up some. The MCs are in a relationship, when the ex shows up. The audacity of this man. 😡 After 9 years of being absent, all of a sudden he wants to be “daddy” so he stirs up the pot. He used to beat on h, so she’s a bit afraid of him. The ex starts to use the court system as another means to abuse h. Yeah, that’s not happening on H’s watch.
I was so glad there was no 3rd act breakup. H stood beside h throughout her ex’s nonsense. The courts rule in h’s favor. Then the ex wants to confront them outside the courtroom with a gun. 😱 I would say it’s all so unbelievable except I DO KNOW stuff like this really happens all the time. Thankfully, the ex situation is handled quickly.
Naturally, there is an oops pregnancy, but it wasn’t a big deal. The epilogue is h having their son.
*sidenote* really the only issues I have with this book is the h having a nickname, Hurricane. 🥴🥴 Can somebody please let authors know that every single h in books does not need a nickname? Please please please quit doing this.
Grant Parker has a rep for being grumpy and antisocial. He keeps to himself and doesn’t usually engage in conversation. But when an enthusiastic, nine-year-old fan with an impressive knowledge of hockey tells him he’s her favorite player, it’s hard not to soften a bit. Especially when her mom turns out to be a guarded beauty in a living situation jam. Before he knows it, he’s offered her and her daughter a place to stay at his house.
Heather is in a bind which is the only reason she accepts Grant’s offer. It has nothing to do with the fact he’s a 6’7” ice god with a marshmallow center and a soft spot for her daughter. Okay, maybe a little, but she’s survived a horrible relationship and isn’t looking to get involved with anyone. Too bad (or luckily?) for her, Grant is the sweetest, most giving and compassionate man around. He’s truly one of the good ones.
The way he took care of and protected Heather and April and the unwavering support he provided was heartwarming. He did feel a little “too good to be true” in the beginning when nothing ever seemed to faze him, and he practically ascended to saint level in being understanding and chill about a preteen, and all that came with her, suddenly inhabiting his house. But as the story went on and he proved to be Heather’s knight in shining skates, he melted my heart so much that I got past it. The real meat and heart of the book happened in the second half. And the author handled sensitive topics in a realistic way, which I appreciated.
I truly enjoyed this book, and I adored the entire series.
Heather, sister to Margo, just found out her housing fell through for her new job in Denver. Rather than staying with Margo and Noah, Grant, goalie for the Aces and all around quiet guy, offers for Heather and her daughter to move in with him. It starts off with small things of Grant making space for them. Then offering to help with her car when it breaks down. But when Grant finds out that Heather hasn’t had an orgasm in almost a decade, he’s more than happy to help. And Grant learns there’s more to life than just hockey and his routines. But what happens when Heather’s ex comes back and demands custody of April after not seeing them for eight years and Heather thinks she needs to run?
Heather and Grant get their happy ending in this standalone book in a series.
Grant has been so serious this entire series, so to see him a person and to fall in love was amazing! I loved how fiercely Heather loved and protected April, but also was open to seeing how she could grow with Grant by April’s side. I had thought the little surprise near the end was going to be what caused a third act break up but I am happy it didn’t and that there was no break up at all. I do wish we got to see a little more of Daddy Grant with his baby rather than just him as a great father to April. Though, maybe we couldn’t handle this hot hockey player with a baby on his chest.
What happens when Ms. Independent meets the Broody, Grumpy Giant?
I’ve always said it’s the quiet ones who surprise you. All-star, elite-level goalie Grant Parker didn’t just surprise me…he blew me away! Throughout Nikki Lawson’s hockey series, Grant rarely talks, often mutters, and frequently grunts. He’s a loner who only cares about hockey and having the perfect game.
When Heather Lucas finds herself and her daughter April in an unexpected crisis, everyone is surprised that Grant steps in and offers to help. Nothing ever disrupts his orderly, regimented life, but something about Heather and the precocious April call to him. Day by day, what should be a chaotic distraction starts to feel like home. An easy friendship starts to feel like more.
One night leads to sizzling confessions and scorching passion, and the sleeping giant is awakened. Grant Parker’s mouth is enough to make you cross and uncross your legs over and over again! His praise is next level, and he also makes Heather feel safe and free to be herself. She had no choice but to fall for this possessive goalie!
Sometimes home is the very thing you never knew you were missing. Nikki Lawson definitely saved the best and most emotional story for last, and it’s everything that Grant, Heather, and April deserve.
You have a grumpy goalie that never makes time for anything besides his routine and you see him fall insanely hard for Heather and her daughter April.
Heather needs a place to stay after hers falls through and Grant steps up because he has a giant house that has the space.
The way he acts with Heathers daughter without even realizing that he’s acting like a father is so amazing. Grant pays attention and remembers everything…
Heathers past relationship with her daughters dad was not good so she left✌🏻
They have a very intimate conversation and do some things in the sauna that starts to change things…👀
He treats Heather like a freaking queen… His mouth is 🔥… The way he treats April melts my heart…
The way his whole life changes from being hockey to Heather and April is beautiful.
They both have no idea what they are doing but they figure it out together and it’s pure magic. Heather is insanely scared of getting hurt again but she knows in her heart that Grant would never do that.
I love them so much! So many amazing parts and quotes and moments…

“You don’t have to run anymore. Not from him. Not from this. Not from me.”
I loved this book!! To finally get Grant's book. It was such a great read!!
I was so happy to see Grant come out of his shell for his person and be seen by others as more than a "robot" between the pipes. Heather was the right choice for him and having a precocious nine year old around to add some entertainment to the mix.
This book talked about a deep issue of domestic violence and then having to deal with an abuser coming back and trying to disrupt your life again and taken control. It showed that Heather had strength and courage and motivation, not only for herself but for her daughter April also. And this time she wasn't alone, she had Grant by her side, not just her family.
Nikki's books are always so entertaining, page turning, steamy, and happy ending that I devour them in a day or two. I can never put them down.
I was looking forward to the quiet, stern goalie book and was so disappointed. Not in the storyline but more in the writing. This was way too long with some parts overly drawn out in details. The beginning jumped in quick but had nice tension but then it became hard to keep interested. Like we get it - he only cares about hockey and she thinks she’s a chaotic, bad mom. It didn’t have to be repeated every chapter. There were several small consistencies where one sentence had a character doing something and the next paragraph they were doing something else that would have been impossible or just didn’t make sense. I also wanted to see Margo and Heather interact more and know more about Heather running with no help from her family.
Swoon. Grant Parker can be my goalie any day he wants! I love a story where a man doesn’t save a woman, but comes along side her and shows her how a real partner behaves.
And man did Heather deserve it! She left a DA situation 9 years prior. She had worked hard to make a career for herself and provide for her daughter, April. When a housing snafu leaves her scrambling, her brother in law’s teammate offers them rooms in his house.
And while Heather’s walls around her heart start to breakdown, so do the strict, rigid routines of Grant’s. This book just made me so happy.
I also loved that the 3rd act conflict WASN’T between Heather and Grant. 🩷🩷🩷🩷 nothing better than having a little drama, but having the two MC fighting together and not against each other.
it wasn't my favorite of the series, but once it got going, I enjoyed it thoroughly. I'm a bit bummed because it took place prior to the events of the Christmas story with Asher Vaughn. But Nikki was telling us that these two were endgame starting in Offside Hearts, you just had to look to see it.
Grant Parker was very intense and when he sets his mind to something, he follows through. There wasn't a 3rd act break up, but there was a 3rd act panic where history caught up to them. I enjoyed this story and these two got their well-deserved happily ever after. Definitely give this one a read, it was a lot of fun.
rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5 (*cheers for the sauna*)
I was excited to read this book since we got to know both Grant and Heather in prior books of the series. The main characters didn’t disappoint in that they were exactly as we knew them to be. We learned why Grant was drawn to interact with Heather in those prior moments and more about each of their pasts. We got to see them grow as individuals and a couple in this book.
Overall, I enjoyed the story but there were several storyline inconsistencies: one particular sub character requires a bit of a stretch to believe his relationship with Grant and there are many scene inconsistencies.
This was grumpy/sunshine at its finest. I loved how Grant is grumpy and standoffish with everyone except Heather and April. Not only did Heather win Grant's heart at first glance but her daughter did too. Grant is a natural protector and Heather is a natural nurturer so they were perfect for each other. I loved how Grant never made April feel like an afterthought or unwanted, he seamlessly stepped into the father role. I love how Heather kept her daughter first while still seeing to her own needs. This book was an example of a single parent romance done right and done beautifully. Grant was definitely my favorite in this series.
Just a big nothing burger. Book never gave character details. How old are these people what do they look like? So much endless thoughts going on and on between dialogue. Characters were just so one dimensional, her daughter had like 2.5 interests. Honestly felt like I was reading something written by AI it was so impersonal and flat, especially compared to some of the other books in this series. Also it really bothered me she left her car at the bar then it was there the next day. Bad continuity okay I’m done.
Love the chemistry between Grant & Heather. And how they learn together how to let other people in their lives.
A happy feel good story with some minor but real life drama in it.
I've read the whole series, and often with series like these, it's more of the same but with different MC's. But Nikki managed to create different stories, that didn't feel like a repeat of the previous books.
This is such an incredible story. I’ve been waiting for it to come out and it was worth the wait. The character background and chemistry was perfect and I absolutely loved every moment. I needed this to end the series but i don’t think this will ever be enough! I want so much more from this series. One of my favorite series to date. Read it, all of it.
Like most fans of the series, I had already shipped grant and heather from the end of offsite hearts. Reading their story and watching how they develop their relationship was everything. Understanding why grant was always so grumpy and heather teaching him there's more to life than hockey made me smile. And I wish there was more to come with this series. Maybe a next gen with sawyer's son and april??
Grant and Heather's story is just adorable. Grumpy hockey goalie and single mom, both who we got to know through the other books first. I feel like it was such a different take on these tropes, and I love Nikki's writing style so much. Can't wait to see what she writes next!
And if you started with this book, be sure to go back and read the rest of the Love and Hockey series - they're such great reads!
4⭐️3 🌶️ Grumpy goalie Single mom that ran from abusive relationship She’s his captains SIL (Margo’s sister) 9 yo girl big hockey fan She works at a women’s shelter Her housing falls through and he volunteers to let them stay He lives by his routine but they’re changing him Nights in the sauna Conversations over meals He sewed the girls shirt He sings karaoke for her It starts just physical Her ex threatens to take custody

Heather, a single mom with a past traumatic relationship, accepted a raise that required moving to a new city closer to her sister Margo. When her housing plans fall through, everyone is surprised when the broody, focused goalie Grant offers her a place to stay. Their relationship quickly moves from respected friends to lovers and ends up healing them both. Plenty of spice, cute storyline and Grant is a huge cinnamon roll MMC.
Overall, I like this book, I’ve been waiting for Grant’s story for a while now, but I have to point out that the author did the most stereotypical single mother trope. Not every single mother throws caution to the wind and gets pregnant again accidentally. I hate this troupe and feel it makes single mothers look bad. Story is sweet but had to leave a review because this troupe bugs the hell out of me.
Why is it the grumpy goalie who always wins my heart!
Goodness I think this was by far the best book in the whole series and I’m so sad that it’s over!
Grant was everything that Heather needed! The way that this slowly built over time made it so much better. And his relationship with April! My heart!!!
6’7 goalie and a single mom? Sold! But really this story was full of hard moments, but also the undying support from Grant. He never wavered in providing Heather and April what they needed and filling the home with love for them. They were a true partnership and it was a great read!
