A Twofer of Mostly Modern Trivia

Beyond Believable is an omnibus collection of the books Better Than Balderdash and Untypical Tales.

Both books basically share the same trivia format with each trivia fact having a title and then a small blurb (sometimes with puns) to provide readers in most cases with more information although there were a few that were rather vague.

Out of the two there are seven chapters for Balderdash and as with many of b these books some facts could clearly fit more than one category. I would give this book a 3-stars.

Untypical Tales would receive a 2-stars. It had five parts with no actual organization in any of the parts like the first book's pop culture, world history, science and nature, etc. The first part had no quote at the start but all the other sections did have quotes based around knowledge afterwards. Furthermore the short stories were the same format as the first book but also had more grammatical issues whether missing words, punctuation or even having some weird infactuals like claiming Mary Shelley's husband was her dad without correcting that if he knew that was wrong or stating witches were the sidekicks of witches instead of cats. To me it was very lucky this was the last book since it would have dropped my star rating for the other.

Also the book does include quite a bunch of facts that were found in Better Than Balderdash so it was almost a repeat read.

The book does have some illustrative aspects but it is all generic and more representative than actual.

If you're looking for some trivia books that are a bit more modern and child-friendly than you may want to take a look into these even with all of the one's issues.
