Lesley Kara is the Sunday Times Top 10 author of psychological thrillers. Her first book, THE RUMOUR, was the highest selling print crime fiction debut of 2019, has sold in over 18 countries and is soon to be a major TV series on Channel 5! Subsequent books are: WHO DID YOU TELL, THE DARE, THE APARTMENT UPSTAIRS, and THE OTHER TENANT.
Exciting, unusual, pace is perfect! Delivers everything you need in a thriller.
I really enjoyed the 'paranoid' state of the character called Storm. It was exciting to read, different, and you question her recall, responses to events just as much as she does. Absolutely loved it. The book then shifts focus and you find the story moves into an investigational mode. This too was good fun to read, you sit alongside this and become fully invested.
The ending was gripping and again exciting and I felt fearful for Storm.
The book is in two halves and I enjoyed the paranoia story telling very much, I wish I had got more of that as it was different and unusual. The other half, the investigation side was good and well thought out and I didn't guess anything either.
I always enjoy Lesley Kara's books and although this one was a slow burner the storyline and likeable characters was enough to keep me reading to the end Storm's brother was murdered 2 years prior to where the story starts. In that time, she sees alarming events but is dismissed by the police as there are no witnesses or evidence to back up her claims that someone is out to get her Enter Lena. an ex police officer (who lives in the flat above Storm) and, finally, someone who believes Storm. Together they try and work out who is targeting Storm A few twists and turns made this an easy read
I usually really enjoy Lesley's books and have read everything she's ever published, but I found this book to be incredibly slow and boring in places. Even so much so I got near my 100 page DNF limit before it picked it just a little to make me carry on.
I hadn't read any of this authors books before but I will certainly do so in future. It had me guessing right to the end about the outcome. Would definitely recommend
