Rose Alterman has long avoided the mile run in gym class. She only signed up for her high school golf team to fulfill her sports requirement, graduate on time, and join her best friends at their dream college.

After family health complications diminish her college fund, she is forced to find a new way to secure her future. Rose’s friend, Jeremy, tees up an unexpected solution: a golf scholarship.

The prospect, at first laughable, proves to have unexpected perks when the dreamy new boy in town, Darren, offers to completely transform her game in just a couple of months.

Despite a lifelong aversion to competition, Rose begrudgingly dedicates herself to a season riddled with cheating scandals, intra-team betrayals, and unexpected alliances. But when the persistent competition extends into her personal life, she must confront the looming dilemma of who belongs at her side when the final scores are tallied – her new beau or the best friend that brought her dreams within reach.

At Tee Time by Alana Robin is a young adult contemporary sports romance that centers on personal ambition, financial pressure, and relational conflict within a competitive athletic setting. The story follows Rose Alterman, a high school golfer navigating shifting priorities after unexpected family health complications alter her college funding prospects.

The narrative’s strength lies in its grounded stakes. Rose’s transition from a reluctant participant to a scholarship-driven competitor establishes a clear motivational arc anchored in socioeconomic pressure and personal identity. The introduction of Darren as a performance catalyst adds a romantic subplot that intersects directly with her athletic development, while her relationship with her best friend Jeremy introduces a secondary emotional conflict tied to loyalty versus opportunity.

Structurally, the novel leverages the sports season framework to escalate tension through competition, internal team dynamics, and ethical friction, including cheating and betrayal. This creates a layered coming-of-age arc that blends romance, friendship strain, and personal accountability.

From a market perspective, the book aligns with YA contemporary sports romance readerships that favor underdog narratives, scholarship-driven stakes, and emotionally entangled love triangles. Its combination of athletic progression and interpersonal conflict positions it well for readers who engage with character-driven sports fiction featuring romantic and ethical complexity.

I absolutely loved At Tee Time! I read it front to back in one sitting as it was that engaging and easy to get lost in.

Being raised in southeast Michigan, the setting truly stood out to me. The author captures the beauty of Michigan so vividly that it feels alive on the page and adds so much depth and authenticity to the story. It made the setting feel personal and nostalgic in the best way.

I loved the balance between romance and friendship, and how neither felt overshadowed by the other. The relationships were well-developed and realistic, and the character development felt thoughtful and earned - especially watching Rose grow, challenge, and push herself throughout the book.

This was a heartfelt, character-driven read with a strong sense of place and relationships that felt genuine and emotionally grounded. Highly recommend for fans of contemporary romance, coming-of-age stories, and books that leave you feeling warm when you turn the last page.

This book was so cute! This is the first time I've read a book as soon as it came out, and I really liked it. It took me a little while to read because I've been busy lately, but it's a really short book, and the chapters aren't too long. As someone who does golf, I totally related to the main character. I also loved the love triangle and I'm glad she made the right choice. 3.8 stars...
