Vivien Hart has been a recluse for years, special thanks to the convenience of delivery, WiFi, and a controlling mother she’s being trying to outrun her whole life. She never planned on inheriting a retro movie theater in a small town in the middle of nowhere Massachusetts, but when a former child star with no life needs somewhere to disappear, Surrender is the safest place to land. Especially since it’s the same place that once let her be a kid, in a world where fame and family took everything else.
Unfortunately, her inheritance comes with a list of increasingly difficult tasks… and an annoyingly charming estate attorney named Spencer Montgomery who is determined to enforce them.
To keep the theater, Vivien must match a handful of locals who never got their happy endings.
Sounds easy enough, except the first name on the list is her own.
As sparks fly with Spencer—even though he’s not her match—and the rules start to blur, Vivien must decide whether she can keep hiding from her past or risk being seen, loved, and chosen for who she is.
Mary Frame writes romantic comedies with quirky characters, steamy moments, and banter that will make you blush and snort-laugh at the same time. She’s a full time mom with a full time job and has no idea how she manages to write novels, but it probably helps that she's a dedicated introvert. She doesn't enjoy writing about herself in third person, but she does enjoy reading, writing, dancing, and damaging the ear drums of her co-workers when she randomly decides to sing to them.
She LOVES hearing from readers and will not only respond but likely begin stalking them while tossing out hearts and flowers and rainbows! If that doesn't creep you out, e-mail her at: maryframeauthor@gmail.com
This was everything I expect from a Mary Frame romance and more. It’s a perfect beach read, and as it’s setting up a series, I can’t wait to read the next installment.
Former child actress and current hermit Vivien has been named as the sole beneficiary of the estate of her late surrogate grandmother, a woman who provided much needed escapes at times for her as a young girl dealing with a domineering, grasping stage mother. She returns to the tiny village of Surrender where she discovers that the terms of the will are unusual, to say the least, and that they involve ever more difficult challenges that Vivien must successfully complete. She is aided in her quest by a host of local eccentrics and a very hunky attorney.
Used to dropping everything to rush to the rescue of anyone in need, Spencer is immediately captivated by the brave and lovely Vivien, who has somehow managed to be anything but a diva in spite of her glamorous past. His feelings must be pushed down, however, in favor of maintaining the integrity of his position as the person overseeing Vivien’s efforts in carrying out her would be grandmother’s edicts.
As the pair work together toward their common goal, their affection for one another becomes more and more difficult to deny, and they begin a deliciously steamy affair. Vivien’s mother, however, may be intent on thwarting not just the relationship between Vivien and Spencer, but also her entire inheritance.
I was generously provided an advance reader copy from the author, and I’m pleased to share my enthusiastic recommendation.
I really enjoyed Vivien Hart's journey as she followed the instructions her grandmother left behind in order to receive her inheritance. The way her grandmother chose to guide her, even after her passing, felt so true to her personality; humorous, joyful and incredibly caring. It was a beautiful way to remain present in Vivien's life!
I also loved the dynamic between Vivien and Spencer. They truly listened to each other, supported one another through their personal challenges, and made a wonderful team. Vivien encouraged Spencer to rethink his priorities, reminding him not to work himself to exhaustion and showing him care through small, thoughtful everyday gestures. In return, Spencer gave Vivien the encouragement and support she needed as she faced several difficult situations, especially those involving her mother. I do wish we had seen Spencer grow a little more by choosing himself more often. It felt like something was still missing for him to truly thrive, as he continued to prioritize helping others, including Vivien, over taking time for himself.
Favorite character: Audrey, Vivien's sister. She seemed like such a kind soul who genuinely wanted to grow, discover who she was, and figure out what she wanted from life. Even though her relationship with Vivien wasn't always easy, I loved seeing her finally stand up for herself and form her own opinions about their family situation. I'm really curious to see where life takes her and what she'll choose to do next!
“Never Been Matched” is a brand-new series, and it’s Book 1! I absolutely adored it and gave it 5 ⭐️ because it was really well done. Mary Frame wrote a delightful and captivating romance that gave me all the feels. The main characters had such great chemistry and tension, and the charming town added the perfect finishing touch. I loved every thing about it and would highly recommend it.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Vivien Hart is a former child star. Her mother was, and is, controlling and greedy. She’s relentless in trying to push Vivien to return to Hollywood, so she can benefit from the celebrity and finances. Vivien wants no part of it. Vivien has just inherited a relative’s home and movie theater. To finalize the inheritance, Vivien must complete a series of tasks. She’s doing her best to successfully fulfill those tasks while focusing on returning the theater into a successful business.
Attorney Spencer Montgomery is overseeing the Vivien’s progress on those tasks. From the grave, Vivien’s grandmother, a notorious matchmaker, is trying to match Vivien with a grumpy and reclusive author. It’s clear from the start neither of them is interested, but Vivien must keep trying. As for Spencer, he’s not only smart, Harvard educated, but handsome and a really good guy.
When first Vivien’s spoiled younger sister show up, then her mother, Vivien’s world starts spinning out of control. She, however, is determined to follow her own path and lead the life she wants. Spencer is there to help her in whatever way he can without breaking the rules of the will.
This book is sweet, engaging, and funny. I found myself pulling for Vivien, for her sister, and for Spencer. At the end of the book, I was smiling and feeling all warm and tingly. That’s not unusual for a Mary Frame novel, but this one was especially engaging.
If you enjoy small towns and strong characters, this might be a book for you. It includes quirky humor and well-meaning townspeople, a dysfunctional family, and finding true love. It won’t disappoint. I highly recommend it.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the author. I thank her for her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.
This story is like that first sip of coffee (or tea, if that's your preference) in the morning - it's lovely, rejuvenating, and goes straight to the heart!
Vivien spent most of her life controlled by the spotlight and her mother. Having grown up a child star and having everything she did seen, heard, and misunderstood by the whole world, becoming a hermit after an awkward breakup was a no-brainer. When she received notice of an inheritance from her grandmother and the news that she needed to arrive in person to claim it, leaving Boston for Surrender, Mass, was also a no-brainer.
Spencer is the white knight and golden retriever of small-town Surrender. When anyone needs a hand, he's their first stop, and he has a very hard time saying no. So when Vivien shows up in town unexpectedly, in the middle of a snowstorm, and is arrested by an overzealous busybody in a police stripper costume, he can't help himself from trying to make her arrival in town a bit more comfortable. The downfall of his immediate attraction is that he's also the lawyer for her grandmother's estate.
This was an absolute gem of a romance. Sometimes it's refreshing to read a low-stakes romance without all of the crazy drama that comes with others. Though there is conflict, there are no deep dark secrets or major miscommunications. Both Vivien and Spencer fight their attractions for professional reasons, but once they come together, there's no stopping them. The side characters add so much to the story, and I loved each of them so much - minus Vivien's mother, of course.
This was the first book by Mary Frame that I've had the luxury of reading... so far. I will be finding as many more as I can! And I cannot wait to return to Surrender in the next installment to the series!
Never Been Matched by Mary Frame is a charming, feel-good small-town romance that blends humor, heart, and emotional healing in a truly engaging way. Vivien Hart, a former child star escaping a controlling past, inherits a retro movie theater in Surrender, Massachusetts—along with a set of unusual matchmaking tasks she must complete to keep it. The situation becomes even more complicated thanks to Spencer Montgomery, the estate attorney who’s both frustratingly rule-bound and unexpectedly hard to ignore. What stood out most was the cozy, quirky atmosphere of Surrender and its lively cast of characters. The premise is creative and fun, and the matchmaking tasks add a playful structure that keeps the story moving at a steady, enjoyable pace. Vivien’s emotional growth is especially satisfying as she slowly steps out of her sheltered, restrictive past. The romance builds with just the right amount of tension, and Spencer is an appealing mix of professionalism and hidden warmth. Their connection feels gradual and genuine, which makes it all the more rewarding. If there’s a small drawback, a few tasks wrap up a bit too quickly, but the emotional payoff and overall charm more than make up for it. Mary Frame’s writing is light, engaging, and full of sparkling dialogue. Overall, this is a cozy, uplifting romance about second chances, self-discovery, and learning to be seen—perfect for readers who love heartfelt small-town stories with a playful twist.
De-freakin-lightful! Never Been Matched is possibly my favorite Mary Frame read ever, and I only say possibly because I get the feeling I’ll be eating those words when the next book in this series comes out. It’s just shy of a rom com, I’m tellin ya the folks in Surrender are a little all up in your business and real close to crazy, has a fantastic coming home story, keeps heaping the charm on in the form of a lawyer with a hero complex, and offers up the perfect dose of healing, finding your safe and soft spot to land, and family drama. I love the premise, Vivien’s grandma has left her an inheritance and she has to go back to Surrender to claim it, where she meets Spencer, the afore mentioned charming lawyer, and has to follow some very specific instructions to get the theatre, the house, and the money. It’s basically a scavenger hunt with the intention of matchmaking set up by her dead scheming grandma, who sounds crazy fun, and getting each clue is made that much more difficult by the recluse Vivien’s grandma wants to see her with, her very hard to ignore attraction to Spencer, and the arrival of her sister, who courtesy of their not so nice mother, she’s a little leery of. I definitely laughed, Spencer is absolutely that charming and sexy, and I relished Vivien finding her confidence, remembering what it felt like to belong, and standing up to her mom. A really excellent start to a very, very promising new series.
I had a ball reading this book, from the first word to the last. I bet you will, too. Vivien Hart is a thankfully-former child star who has been hiding for years from her insanely controlling stage mother, and from the world that thinks she's still a star. Enter her grandmother's will, of course, along with the obligatory list of impossible and rib-tickling conditions. Starting with making a match between herself and a worse recluse than she has been. Still, the prize is making a new life running a movie theatre with flair and imagination in the perfect run-away town. Sounds easy? Not for our Vivien. She drives into town in a blinding snowstorm. Her car dies, and the lobby of the motel she reaches is locked. What to do? Break in, of course. It wouldn't be much of a book of the heroine froze to death on page ten. She's arrested, but manages to persuade the cop to take her to to lawyer in charge of her grandmother's will. Spencer Montgomery turns out to be a wildly attractive guy, despite his sheet, red halo, and white wings. Before she even discovers he's NOT the guy she must make her own match with, she discovers the cop is a fake, and so are his handcuffs. Such is your peek into author Mary Frame's sense of humor. Get ready to curl up with a heart-warming, thigh-slapping hilarious novel.
I received an advanced copy of this book and it was my first time reading from Mary Frame, and now I want more!
This is the perfect rom com to ger you in a cheery mood. A love story crafted by a caring grandmother that wants to bring life into her granddaughter.
Vivien is a child star who left the business and chose the life of a hermit to avoid people and her mom (mom-ager from hell). She is happy with solitude and wifi, but when her grandmother passses away and she is to inherit an old movie theater, but there are clauses attached to the will that force her to leave her isolation, and oh boy from start to finish the characters and circumstances that come her way are hilarious.
Now, the main clause in the will is playing matchmaker for some of the townsfolk, first in line is Vivien herself. Enter Spencer, a lawyer with a heart of gold and the looks of gods. THe spark between him and Vivien is off the charts, but they remind business like as he wants her to be successful, but as they get to know each other there is no denying that they are made for each other unlike who her grandmother had paired her with. BUt wait until her mother comes into the story to see the antics she works with!
A fun and entertaining story filled with small town vibes, a cinnamon roll boyfriend, and a heroine who learns her worth through failures and circumstances!!
3.75 stars for Vivien and finally standing up for herself. A decent story but more spice would have nudged up the stars.
Vivien is a child actor who doesn’t love her life. She hides away from life and her mother, who is a controlling manipulative wench. Her grandmother Beverly believes Vivi is a strong capable woman and sets up tasks for her to encourage her self-belief and courage.
Spencer is the town attorney, a single, hot and smart chap who rather fancies Vivien but also wants to protect her legally.
They are good for each other but there is trouble brewing and other people will be getting involved. Daphne is a good friend, defs a good egg in Vivien’s corner. What’s with Audrey and the principal?
Excerpts from Never Been Matched written by Mary Frame:
It was like if I ever stopped to do something just for myself, I might fall apart. Being useful kept me glued together. I couldn’t fall apart if people relied on me.”
“I think she was trying to teach me how to stop being afraid of my own life. To take risks. Go for the impossible tasks. Stop letting my life and everyone else control me and take command myself. I thought I needed to hide to protect myself, but maybe I just need to control the narrative.”
Sometimes life is beautiful, and sometimes it’s a little messy. What else is there to do with your one big, beautiful life?
Being a child star whose mother spent her childhood siphoning off money and controlling every aspect of her life, Vivian rushed to Surrender, Massachusetts as soon as she got the letter. It was about her grandma Beverly's will, and she was the only family (and not even really related) who ever cared about Vivian.
It was the town she visited when her mother needed to be unencumbered by her older daughter, and was magical for Vivian. Beverly owned a majestic movie theater where she shared her voie de vie with Vivian. It was however, a shock to find out that this theater plus her house would all be Vivian's, if she could fulfill a series of tasks. These tasks would be given to her one at a time, each with detailed restrictions and requirements.
An intricate plot with humorous situations, creative solutions, and a lot of hard work! Wonderful characters, who pulled Vivian into their friendships and helped her with her tasks. There is a surprise appearance by her younger half sister Audrey, who decides to stay permanently as well. Fast paced and fabulous, I didn't want to put the book down. This is an author who knows how to give her readers exactly what they want!! Terrific story!
This was a cute read. Spencer and Vivien were adorable and I loved them together!
Viven has not had the best of times. She was famous as a child and her mother is a piece of work and she has run away to Boston to try and escape everything. She is used to people using her and not really wanting her for her and so she hid herself away in her place and doesn't really go out. Not until she got a notice that she has to show up in the small town where her aunt lived to collect her inheritance. And it must be in person.
Spencer is her aunts lawyer and in charge of the will. Of course the aunt didn't let things be simple. No, Vivien must complete some tasks if she is to claim her inheritance. And of course these two like each other immediately, but Spencer is trying not to act on it because he is her lawyer and that could be unethical.
This book was full of small town fun and it was a great read. I loved watching Vivien grow and come out of her shell some. I loved seeing Spencer learn to say no to people and not run himself ragged doing everything for everyone. It was a quick, fun read and I loved it! I can't wait for the next book in the series.
Thanks to the author for an advanced copy of this book. The views are mine alone.
I received a free ARC of this book for a fair and honest review.
I have been a big fan of Mary Frame for years--her stories are always beautifully written with engaging characters, sparkling dialogue, and intriguing plots. And this book is one of her best.
I was immediately drawn into the story, with Vivien's catastrophic (almost) arrival into Surrender, and my interest was firmly caught with the terms of her inheritance. I loved her, Spencer, and all of the inhabitants of the town--even Jerry--and I couldn't wait to see what happened next. While I'm not sure I'd want to live in Surrender myself (the citizens are a little more involved in each other's business than I'm completely comfortable with!), but I surely did love visiting it and want to spend more time getting to know everyone, and there were hints of relationships to come that I really want to know more about.
It was hard to put the book down to do things I couldn't put off, and when I finished, I was both happy and sad--happy with the completely satisfying ending, and sad that the next book isn't out for months. It was a real feel-good book for me and one that I know I'll read again.
Never Been Matched is a sweet, light read that hooks you from the start with a premise that feels both fresh and emotionally grounded. Our main character is a former child actor who spent her early years being exploited by her own mother, so she did the only sensible thing: walked away from Hollywood and her family entirely. Then an unexpected inheritance from the one family member who truly understood her pulls her back in, sending her to the small town where she spent her summers as a child with a catch: she has to complete a series of challenges to receive it.
The challenges are where the story really shines. They're funny and clever, but each one carries a little meaning underneath, which kept it from feeling like just a checklist. The supporting characters are genuinely enjoyable and add a lot of warmth to the story. And the romance? It sneaks up on you in the best way.
If you're looking for something that balances humor, heart, and just enough emotional depth without getting too heavy, this one delivers. Highly recommend.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 Stars
Never Been Matched by Mary Frame was such a cute and enjoyable read! This was my first book by this author, and I had a great time with it. It was a quick, heartwarming story that kept me entertained from beginning to end.
I really loved Vivien’s journey as she stepped out of her comfort zone and learned to open herself up to life, friendship, and love. The small town setting was charming, and the retro movie theater added a fun and unique touch to the story. Spencer was the perfect balance to Vivien’s reserved personality, and I enjoyed watching their relationship develop as they worked through the unusual inheritance challenges together.
The matchmaking element was sweet, and I loved how the story focused not only on romance but also on healing, self-discovery, and finding where you belong. Overall, this was a light, feel good romance with lovable characters, plenty of charm, and a satisfying happily ever after. I’ll definitely be checking out more books by Mary Frame.
This was such a good one! A great summer read. Vivian is a former child star who never really wanted to be in the spotlight. She has been living a secluded life until her grandmother dies. She is left an inheritance that has stipulations in it - mainly she has to find herself a love match. Spencer is not her match, but the hot attorney with a conflict of interest. Vivian and Spencer are fighting their feelings while trying to complete all the assignments. Will she be able to get her inheritance.
I love how both Vivian and Spencer learned something about themselves on this special mission of sorts. Vivian is strong and finally stands up for herself. Spencer is such a good guy and you keep hoping he will knock it off and kiss her! You have to love a meddling relative (even from beyond the grave.) This is a great small town romance where gossip spreads like wildfire, but everyone has each others’ back when the chips are down. This series is going to be great! 5/5⭐️ 4/5🌶️
Never Been Matched is everything I love about a Mary Frame romance and the perfect way to kick off a new series! Vivien and Spencer are absolutely delightful together. Their banter is witty, effortless, and feels so natural that I found myself smiling through the entire book. The chemistry between them is immediate and undeniable, bringing just the right amount of steam while still delivering plenty of heart. Mary Frame has such a gift for creating quirky, lovable characters who feel real and unforgettable. I love the town and all of the side characters we’ve met so far! Vivien and Spencer are a perfect match, and watching their relationship unfold was both fun and deeply satisfying. The storyline kept me engaged from beginning to end, balancing humor, romance, and emotion beautifully. As always, Mary Frame feels like a kindred spirit who writes exactly the kind of stories I want to read. This was a fantastic start to a new series, and I already can’t wait to see what comes next!I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Vivien Hart, former child actor and current adult recluse, has returned to Surrender, Massachusetts. after the death of her pseudo-grandmother Beverly who was a bright spot in her otherwise turbulent childhood. Beverly has left her an inheritance but that inheritance comes with strings. She doesn't plan on staying long, of course but in order to get her inheritance she has some side quests she must complete. At the rate things are going she's not certain what her future holds.
She meets Spencer, the lawyer handling Beverly's will and the side quests. He is also making things complicated because he's quite attractive. With every new side quest, things get more complicated. Does she stay and have Spencer and her theater or does she go back to being a recluse. Read it and see.
Well written, fun, interesting, and the characters are all awesome. This is a good read for the beach, a hot summer night spent indoors with the A/C, or cozy winter night. It's just a great read. Give it a read. You won't regret it.
I received a digital ARC of this book. I beg Mary for the early copies of her books because they are guaranteed to be good. This one was no different! This is book one in a new series. Vivienne is a former tv star who has become reclusive due to her mother’s overbearing behavior. But when her grandmother Beverly passes away and she’s called to her small town to claim what she left her, Vivienne’s whole world is about to change. Spencer, the very hot attorney, has a series of letters and tasks she has to accomplish. She isn’t surprised, she’s actually excited to see the adventure her grandmother has planned for her. I loved the quirky small town characters, the way Vivienne is brought out of her shell, the love story that her grandmother is pulling the strings of from beyond the grave, and most importantly that happiness is at the end of all of it. I’m already looking forward to book two in this series! Thank you for the honor of reading an early copy Mary!
I always enjoy the creativity of this author, and was really excited to start this new series. This story was fun to read!
The emotions surrounding these characters is easy to connect with and enjoy. Even if my heart broke for Vivien, and the reasons she's back in Surrender.
Spencer is an adorable Golden Retriever guy who falls hard and fast for Vivien, even if he's only supposed to be overseeing the terms of Beverly's will - but their attraction and sizzling chemistry is hard to ignore.
I love how things in this small town come together to help things along.
I recommend this book. It's full of compelling emotions and fun banter, found family vibes, and the HEA journey and conclusion that I wanted for this couple.
I look forward to the next in this addictive series. Once finished here, grab another from this author's catalog. Worth your time, IMO.
Thanks to Booksirens and the author for my ARC, and voluntarily leave my review.
This was a cute, Hallmarkian read that felt like the equivalent of a nice hot cup of wassail - lots of warm fuzzies. That doesn’t mean that it’s without its conflicts, though; the mom’s character adds a decent bit of familial tension that is sure to recur in the next book.
The romance is sweet, there’s a decent spicy scene as well and, again, surely more to follow.
Overall a fun and easy read! Looking forward to the next one, and may Graham always be subject to hijinks. The poor guy!
*There could’ve been maybe more tension in the book overall - I’m glad [two of the characters] got it on when they did, although the resistance between both of them felt… maybe a bit more surface level? I think overall everything just worked out a bit easily for Vivian. Which, LOVE that for her. Just something that kept me from giving a full 5 stars!

Well Written Quirky Feel-Good Small Town Rom-Com with Heart and Wonderful Characters
I loved this start to a new series by Mary Frame and thoroughly enjoyed the town and quirky characters of Surrender. Both Vivian and Spencer were beautifully written and perfect for each other, while fighting their attraction and "trying to do the right thing". His "golden retriever" energy was perfect as he helped absolutely everyone in the town that needed it, but I appreciated his growth in learning to "say no" as well as hers in learning to trust, making new friends, and standing up to her mother. While serious topics were covered with her mother's awfulness, there were also many humorous situations that kept the pages turning. I am looking forward to more books set in this quirky town - Enjoy!
I was sent an ARC by the author and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Vivien has inherited a theater from her step grandmother. But to really own it she must do a series of task to get her match. But what if your match is not really your match? Spencer is the lawyer that is there to make sure everything goes as requested. Vivien is trying to hide from her past and the damage her mother cause. Spencer is always willing to help, but who is there to help him? This story is funny, super sweet and just full of adventures. The things Vivien comes up with the help of the town is so much fun and if the rest of the books are just like this one, then I will be more than happy to keep on reading. Spencer was such a sweetheart and Vivien was so willing to try new things and fight her past and finally stand in her two own feet. It was just a wonderful story. I read this book as an advance copy from the author.
If you were introduced to this Author through her "Dorky" series or "Fox Family" series, you know she is capable of so much better.
Definite promise at the start of "Never Been Matched". A series of bad luck and mishaps certainly plagued Vivien before she is essentially frog marched into her meet cute with Spencer. While the Reader has an 'idea' of what he physically looks like, other than blonde and blue eyed, there was nothing much by way of her appearance. The 'gourd' reference and Spencer's role at his friend's bequest was certainly funny and given past works by the Author assumed the silliness would continue. Instead, it devolved into more serious fare.
So, will this Reader, pick up the sequel ? Probably, because believe that the Author has the ability to deliver...
In this small-town romance starring a scarred former child star (Vivien) and a people-pleasing attorney (Spencer), two people learn to take control of their lives - and take a chance on love - when they're thrown together while trying to meet the bizarre terms of an inheritance. The story is eminently readable, and the setting is cozy without being saccharine. I did feel like the hijinks associated with the retro theater Vivien inherits, and the odd terms of the inheritance, took over the plot, making it feel more like a caper novel and distracting from the relationship between the principals. But it was a fun read and these two were good for each other. Best of all, it's the first of a series and there are already (at least) two more romances waiting in the wings!
[I received a complimentary ARC from the author. Opinions are my own.]
ARC Review I loved this book so much! This was my first Mary Frame book but it certainly will not be the last! I loved the characters in this book. They felt real.
FMC was a child movie star that was mistreated by pretty much everyone including her mother. Her solution was to run away and hide from everyone. That is until she gets the phone call from a lawyer in the small town where she spent part of her childhood with her step grandmother.
She finds out that her grandmother left her everything, but she had several tasks to complete before it is legally hers. She decides to accept the challenge and do her best to complete the tasks. She makes friends, finds purpose for her life, and falls for the hot lawyer along the way!
I can’t wait for the next story in this series in November!
Thank you to BookSirens for an ARC of Never Been Matched by Mary Frame. I received this copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was just the perfect book to read on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Vivien Hart has returned to Surrender, Massachusetts after the death of her beloved step-grandmother. She's there because of an inheritance. She doesn't plan on staying long, of course. She's a famous actress who has been out of the spotlight, trying to avoid her controlling mother.
When she meets Spencer, the gorgeous lawyer, all bets are off. The inheritance becomes a scavenger hunt, of sorts. The characters are great, the setting is not too over the top, and it all just works well. Looking forward to the next in the series!
What a great premise for a book. In order to inherit something you have to complete a series of tasks. And, oh, what hoops Vivien must jump through to achieve it. I absolutely loved the characters of Vivien and Spencer. They were two people-pleasers who realized they didn't need to be that way anymore, once they met each other. They could just be true to themselves (and each other 😊). Great secondary characters, too. Daphne, Audrey, Carter, Josh and even Beverly (from the beyond). I couldn't stand Vivien's mother. I was happy to see Vivien take back control of her life and put her mom in her place. It was an all-around fun read and I really enjoyed it. I received an Advance Reader Copy for free and I'm leaving a fair and honest review.
This is book 1 in Frame's new Reluctant Matchmakers series. A wonderful start to a new series that can be read as a standalone. This book features main characters Spencer and Vivien. Vivien is a former child star who has stepped away from fame and is used to people using her, including sadly her own mother. She has become somewhat of a recluse but if forced from her home to a small town for the reading of her grandmothers will and obtain her inheritance. Spencer is her grandmother's attorney and the attraction is instant. I loved this small-town romance read where we get to see our main characters come into their own. A wonderful start to a new series and I'm already excited for more!

Very enjoyable story about a young woman who was a child star with a very controlling mother. She’s sneaking out of her condo in Boston to the tiny town of Surrender where Viv’s Aunt Beverly left her the Palace movie theater and her rambling farmhouse at the outskirts of town. Beverly loved Viv and wants her to spread her wings and stop hiding herself from the world. Enjoyed the lawyer Spenser who was easy going and nonjudgmental and always had been a fan of Vivs. Found plenty of intrigue and interest til end of story, even with a knieving mother who was easy to dislike and sister Audrey who needed nurturing.
I received an early free copy, ARC, and am giving my honest free and voluntary review.
