Super Memory by Harry Lorayne is about harnessing our brain’s ability to remember things. The techniques used in Super Memory have the intent to help the reader improve their “grades in 30 days!” and to expand the reader’s memory capability. Harry Lorayne is “the world’s premier authority on memory training” and is also an author and magician. He also specializes in memory training, and uses many different memory devices. He has trained himself and is well known for his fantastic memory. His book, Super Memory, was assigned to me by my chemistry teacher, Dr. Halkyard. He assigned it to my Chemistry class to aid in remembering formulas and also to help in other classes. Who wouldn’t want to increase their memory capacity? Personally, I think many other people can benefit from this book, just like I have.
While you can easily benefit from reading this book, it does require time and patience. You must read the book with an open mind in order to take full advantage of “the world’s premier authority on memory training.” The author, Harry Lorayne explains and goes over many memory techniques in the book, so you must carefully read so you don’t miss anything. While the techniques are helpful, they do require time to practice and master them. Harry Lorayne has different techniques for different things, but he also explains different techniques for similar situations. That way, you are able to choose which technique(s) work the best.
As “the world’s premier authority on memory training,” Harry Lorayne is extremely resourceful in the field of expanding our memory capacity. In Super Memory, he goes through many techniques he finds useful and believes that we can benefit from. I found it really easy to learn, albeit it takes time, and he did a good job of organizing the book into separate sections based on different memory techniques.

What if it was found out grades could be raised drastically within a month? According to Super Memory by Harry Lorayne, grades can be raised in 30 days, using simple memorization strategies that are widely known, but it is not known how effective they can be. This book gives a fascinating exploration about the process that lets students raise their grades in some of the hardest subjects, such as, History, English, Chemistry, and so many more. In Super Memory, many ways of teaching effective memorization strategies are summarized, such as the Link System of Memory and Mnemonic Devices; the main purpose of Super Memory is to help students raise their grades.
In the book Super Memory by Harry Lorayne, there are three main subgroups of school subjects: English, History, and Math and Science, and different memorization strategies for each subject. First, there are a few chapters on how to memorize information relevant to English. In Chapter 8, which is entitled “Vocabulary”, word association is revealed to be a helpful strategy for memorization in English. Secondly, there are some chapters on History. In Chapter 12, “American History”, word association, letter association, and number association are talked about as helpful strategies to memorize names, numbers and dates. Finally, there are many chapters on Math and Science. In Chapter 21, “Chemistry, Biology and Genetics”, it is revealed that letter association and word association are very helpful when it comes to memorizing elements, acronyms, and elemental charges. Super Memory is mainly divided into different school subject categories, and different memorization strategies can apply for each subject.
Throughout the book, the Link System of Memory is shown to have a positive effect on students by associating items that it is necessary to know with ridiculous images that can be visualized easily. The author describes why not to use logical pictures for the Link System, “Don’t use a logical picture…[it could be] possible, logical, probable--and it won’t work” (16).
This chapter constantly reminds the reader not to use a logical picture when trying to associate items with the Link System of Memory because ridiculous pictures pop into the mind easier than normal and logical ones. Another example are how bad memories are more memorable than good memories, showing that items that are bad or ridiculous stand out more than items that are good or logical. Chapter 5 gives us a description on how to use the Link System with word association, “The Link is based mainly on the reminder principle. I’ve taught you to force one thing to remind you of the next...so you can visualize [non-visual objects]” (30). Humans are hardwired to have the reminder principle. The reminder principle causes one thing to remind you of another, and of another, and it ends up going on for a long time. The reminder principle is used every day by almost every human, and the narrator is describing how to apply it to academics. In Super Memory, the Link System is shown to work with students by associating items with ridiculous images or phrases that are easily remembered.
In this book, mnemonic devices are used as a helpful way to memorize long sequences of information; this strategy also uses word and letter association. The author describes that when the Peg system of memory is learned, it is almost permanently embedded in the mind, “And you’ll be able to use [the Peg system] over and over again--forever. If you know the sounds of the Phonetic Number/Alphabet, you can come up with a word that will represent any number” (41). The key of the Peg system of memory is that the system permanently embeds in the brain, so items can never completely be forgotten. The Peg system also uses the reminder principle, by using sounds to conjure up numbers and other information. Chapter 3 reveals that in order to study smart, it is needed to be able to consciously associate items, “...you [already study] subconsciously, without thinking about it, realizing it, or having control over it. Your goal, now, is to knowingly and consciously...be able to associate [items]...the [systems of memory outlined in the book] will enable you to do just that” (13). Many of the strategies that are talked about in this book, such as: mnemonic devices, the Link System, the Peg System are already known by the reader, however, the reader does not realize that they are using these systems. Once this realization is established, it becomes much easier to study effectively, and put these memorization strategies to use. Throughout Super Memory, mnemonic devices and other memorization strategies are used in order to make memorization easier.
In conclusion, throughout the nonfiction work Super Memory by Harry Lorayne, effective memorization strategies are given to the reader. There are many purposes of Super Memory, but the main purpose is to help students raise their grades in challenging classes that require a lot of memorization. The Link System of Memory works because it allows people to associate ridiculous images with important terms that need to be memorized. Mnemonic devices let people associate silly combinations of words together in order to remember a difficult concept. Within mnemonic devices, the Peg system comes in handy, in order to permanently embed items into the mind. Super Memory gives great advice on how to use effective memorization strategies, and it should be a required book in all high school curriculums due to the book’s helpfulness. This book is very recommended, and will help students raise their grades and increase their academic performance.

Recently, we have been reading the book Super Memory Super Student by Harry Lorayne in class. The premise of the book is to give memorization methods and how to apply them to real life situations. Such examples include giving an abbreviation to a certain list of words and ordering them in a way to remember. Harry Lorayne is a magician and memory-training specialist. He was written various other books about memory and memorization. The author wrote this book because he wanted students to be successful in school with the memorization methods he came up with. The book is definitely very helpful, helping me personally, to memorize certain information used on the chemistry quizzes and tests.
Various chapters give many memorization methods to remembering certain information about that subject. One example can be the memorization of vocabulary words and foreign words. Other chapters include the memorization of important equations and formulas in math and science. Lorayne gives to remember are analogies and words that sound similar to the word itself. Another example is the memorization of formulas used in math and science. These methods are very helpful not only in school, but also in life.
The argument the author uses is the memorization methods taught in the book are useful and that they should be used in every subject. One such example is the link system of memory. Lorayne writes that the best way to memorize a certain word, is to picture it in the most ridiculous way possible. One such example includes remembering the words “bottle” and “bed” (16). The given example is picturing a bottle sleeping on a bed, but other more absurd scenarios can be made up for it too. Something like drinking a bed out of a bottle. This memory device can easily be applied to any word that you would need to remember. For foreign language words, Lorayne instructs us to use sound alike words. To remember the word Hermano, since it sounds like air-man-o, he says to think of an air-man, and think of a ridiculous picture of your brother riding along with him (58). Silly things like that can really help a student remember the knowledge needed to pass tests and quizzes. A final method used to remember formulas and equations, would be to have list a word for every abbreviated letter. An example would be to remember the equation for KE=1/2mv2 would be something like “Kelvin ate one half of my vegetables squared.” Simple tricks like this can ensure a successful student.
There are various memory activities in the book to see if you can try out the methods that are given to you and use them. Remembering every U.S. president is hard, but essential in American history classes. The activity given to us is to list the first eight presidents. However a memory device is given to each of the presidents, such as James Monroe, and to remember his name, would be to relate his name to Marilyn Monroe (76). Another example would be to remember the hardness of materials ranging from least hard to most hard. To remember some of these, you could find words or phrases that sound similar to the actual material. The activity at the end eventually wants you to list all of the materials from least to most hard in order. These activities are useful as they show if you can apply the methods accordingly, and if they work for you.
The book Super Memory Super Student is very useful in giving memorization methods and applying them to situations inside and outside of the class. The useful memory devices such as similar sounding words, and memory link system are very useful. Not to mention the activities, so one could apply their knowledge to the subject. Super Memory Super Student is a book that not just every student, but everyone should be using.

Super Memory- Super Student is a good book for any student that has had trouble studying and memorizing for tests or quizzes. It was written by Harry Lorayne who is the “self proclaimed premier authority on memory training”. We read this book to try and better in our memory and help us do better on tests and quizzes.
One of the better methods that the author has in this book is “mnemonics”. It’s a method that uses rhymes and sound alikes to help memorize words. This method would really help you memorize words for vocab because of the symbols it uses. This method would be good for studying for vocabulary because all you have to do is take one part of the word and create something familiar from it to make a memory device. This method is easy and works really well.
Another method that he introduces is a way to remember different numbers and dates. He would assign a certain letter to a number and whenever you would see that letter it would make you think of the certain number paired with it. As it is a difficult memory device to remember, it could really help you.
This book is good for students that need help memorizing for school. This book also relies largely upon the student and if the method works for them because everyone learns differently and some of these methods might work well for one student but badly for another. So overall, These methods in these books could really help some people and could also be hard for other people so it is mostly based on the person’s opinion.

Book Review

The memory techniques in this book Super Memory can be helpful to certain people in some subjects of study and can be applied to real life. The author's name is Harry Lorayhe and the title of the book is Super Memory Super Student. The theme of this book is to gain new memory techniques. The thesis of the book is there is no learning without memory.
In the first technique he taught us to transfer number to letters. This works because the base numbers are similar to letters. For example 1 is to T, 2 is to N, 3 is to M, and 4 is to R. 1 is to T because of the one line up to the T. 2 and 3 are for the lines going up in N and M. Overall I think this technique is probably the best one in the book.
The next technique is to use the letters for dates in history. For example, 1776 can be TKKJ. Next I then turn those letters into words. This Kaplan kindly jogs would be a good way to memorize it because my last name is Kaplan and I am incorporating something that I can relate too. Overall, this method works very well in world history.
The last technique is changing harder vocabulary into other words you can remember. For example, blaśe means to indifferent. You can remember this by linking blaśe to blaze and remembering that the two words are different. This is a easy trick to link two words together to make it easier to remember. Overall, this book was really helpful to me because it allowed me to explore other methods of memorization.

Super Memory by Harry Lorayne is a book that contains various methods on how to memorize efficiently, easily, and quickly. Harry Lorayne is a specialist in the training of human memory. The Super Memory book provided many memorization techniques that made memorizing chemistry terms and topics fairly easy. Harry’s goal was to communicate easy to learn memorization methods to the readers of the book. I believe this book has truly provided me with useful methods to memorize chemistry terms i had a hard time remembering. I plan to highlight how the book has successfully and easily taught these various methods.

The main chapters of the Super Memory Book include chapters one through six, eight through ten, eleven, seventeen, and nineteen through twenty one. Within chapters one through six, Harry Lorayne provides various examples of how he makes memorization fun and manageable at the same time. On page 4 Harry Lorayne mentions that he wants the reader to engage in his book, “ I want you to be actively involved; I want you to answer questions, fill in blanks- amaze yourself”. Harry makes his objective clear that he wants to involve the reader in his methods of memorization. Chapters eight through ten chapters serve to help the reader remember various forms of vocabulary. Harry Lorayne intended to provide easy forms of memorization methods for vocabulary within these chapters. Lorayne writes, “ Assume you never heard the word “Barbeque” before and you wanted to remember not only its pronunciation but also its meaning. What does “Barbeque” sound like. Barber Q” (54). Lorayne then places a picture of a barber cutting a Q’s hair as a form of a memorization tool. Lorayne uses this tool throughout all three of these chapters because he feels it will be the easiest to utilize when studying.
I believe this book provides easy to learn memorization methods. Harry Lorayne begins talking about how creating an image for yourself may help in memorization. He says “ See the silly picture that only you can see. A felled star looks like a gigantic quarter (quartz), or quartz of liquid pour out of a felled star” (32). Harry Lorayne tries to make memorization fun and easy to learn. He incorporates fun within his methods because he tries to get the reader to have fun while learning how memorize. This process makes learning more memorable and easy. Not only that, but also the idea of having an image that only the reader can see will greatly help the individual memorize more efficiently. Harry Lorayne later brings the same method of using pictures while memorizing, when the reader hits the Vocabulary section of the book. He says “ What does barbeque sound like? Barber Q (or cue) of course” (54). This method also incorporates the use of sounding out words within finding an image that is similar to the sound. He does this because it most definitely allows the reader to use his/her imagination to create an image that is easy to remember and use when the time comes. This tiny bit of imagination can truly allow the reader to have fun while studying. Towards the end of the book, Harry Lorayne also incorporates the use of acronyms within his memorization methods. He then says “ I see Dick Hackin (HC2) a ham (H3) that you own (O2)” (140). Harry uses his creativity to form unique sentences that correlate with him. Through this, he can easily memorize formulas for various compounds in chemistry. Through this he achieves his goal of encouraging creativity, easiness, and fun while studying.
Harry Lorayne provides valid explanations as to why each method will help in the process of memorization. Harry Lorayne starts off by explaining what method we will be using in the chapter and why. He says “ Applying the Substitute word technique to foreign-language words or phrases is practical. The systems are self-perpetuating: the more you use them, the more use you’ll find for the and the more useful they’ll be”(56). Knowing that most people will find studying boring, Harry Lorayne states that each of his methods are self- motivated, in the sense that if the person practices them often, then they become useful. He does this so people could become encouraged to study. He wants them to be encouraged because that is how his methods work, through determination and imagination. In the next chapter, Harry mentions the utmost importance of memorizing vocabulary for the SAT. He continues to say “ Those “tricks” are fine for those who don’t know the material, although the Educational Testing Service suggests that encouraging students to rely on “what they see as tricks”. Let me show you a way to know the information” (65). Although Harry encourages the use of his memorization tricks, he see’s the tricks given to students by others are quite inefficient. He rather focuses on the actual memorization of the material, rather that the temporary memorization they get from doing zed tricks. This proves that he is truly dedicated to accomplish his goal of getting the reader to memorize things permanently rather than just for a brief moment. Harry Lorayne later mentions the Phonetic Number/Alphabet device. He states “ In math and science you’re expected to know metric measurements and equivalents. It’s so easy. Form an association between Milly and sum up mug” (129). Harry starts by saying that we will find this method useful because of the significance it has when memorizing the metric measurements. He emphasizes this, so he can get the reader to understand that his methods are all relevant within school. He wants the reader to understand this, so that he/she feels inspired to learn his various methods. Finally, Lorayne wants to get the point across that his methods are tools in the real world as well as in school.

I would like to conclude that Harry Lorayne accomplished his goal of providing me with efficient and easy to learn methods within his book Super Memory. Not only did the book provide me with easy to learn methods, but also examples of the methods, so that I could learn to utilize them myself. I also noticed that his explanations of why his methods were important, served as encouragement for me to use these methods within my daily life.As a final thought, I would like to conclude by saying that he caused me to truly enjoy memorization and studying through his creative methods.

Super Memory Super Student is a reference novel by Harry Lorayne. Harry Lorayne is a beloved American magician and memory-training specialist. The main theme of this book is expose effective methods for memorizing anything confusing or unmemorable, ranging from chemical bonds to state capitals. Harry Lorayne wrote this book to help out all students on simple memory tricks regarding confusing topics.
There are 27 total chapters in this book, each chapter talks about a different memory trick to memorise. This book starts out with easy memory tricks, such as using common numbers to associate with memorising facts (Such as memorising the height of Mt. Fuji, which is 12,365 feet. That is easy to memorise because 12 months in a year and 365 days in a year etc). The book then focuses on a little more complex tricks, such as putting together words in English to understanding Spanish and French vocabulary (one example is the word mariposa. That means butterfly in Spanish. The book tells you to picture a girl named Mary posing while a butterfly lands on her head). Simple tricks like this actually work in memorising confusing Spanish words. This book is hard to understand at first but if you put time and effort to understand it, then it can be beneficial to you. Furthermore, I appreciate that the methods for memorising things is in order from easy memorizations to harder ones.
To delve into more specifics regarding some memory tricks that specifically helped me, one of the main tricks that I used was the one I mentioned earlier about picturing words in English in order to memorise words in other languages. After reading Chapter 10, which was about memorising words, I felt a lot more comfortable with memorising new words. The objective of both of these examples are similar, however, the process is very different. For learning words in French, I would use English examples to make it easier. For the other process, I would use English words and this time, sentences, to learn new vocabulary. For example, the word emulate, which means to admire. This book taught me the sentence, “M, you late”, meaning like a boss or teacher telling someone names M that it’s late, and you admire it for being late. Although it sounds kinda silly, this trick really helps you memorise vocab by making it easier to understand using silly words and phrases. Another example is the word meander. The word means to wander slowly. You could use the word me and her are walking slowly. Picture that. While this trick may seem simple, you would be shocked to see how useful this trick is once you have it down.
Overall, this book really helped me out with memorising new things. I would recommend this book to anyone who struggles with memorising stuff and needs help with mind tricks. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and I am happy that our chemistry teacher made us read it.

Super Memory, by Harry Lorayne is a short book in the form of a novel which explains many tools and memory devices to help students learn and study various forms of material. (Specifically Chemistry) Harry Lorayne is memory training specialist and writer who is rightfully called the “Yoda of Memory Training.” In the book, Lorayne helps and teaches us how to use memory devices and tricks such as limericks to memorize difficult patterns such as formulas in Chemistry. The book has succeeded, in that it has taught me how to better study the material in order for it to retain in my head so that I may later use that material for important subjects like Chemistry. I am reading Super Memory with my class during Chemistry.
The book was assigned by Mr. Halkyard, in the intent that we would discover new methods of studying. The subject of the book is quite obvious, the book talks about many valuable tricks that can help any student remember many details more easily, and more quickly. I believe the author covers this very adequately, and the possibilities of remembering things are endless, as long as it sticks.
Lorayne talks about how limericks and memory devices can quickly and easily help you memorize difficult facts and patterns. In chapter 4, Lorayne immediately dives into the most simple way to memorize things: taking two words and putting them together in your mind, as a picture to establish a ‘link’ in your mind. He says, “I’ll use these ten as examples: lamp, paper, bottle, bed, fish, telephone, window, flower, nail, typewriter. We’ll make ridiculous mental pictures or associations between or with two items at a time, until we’ve associated, or ‘linked’ all ten of them.”(15) The mental pictures can be as crazy as you like, as long as they stick.
I feel that Mr. Halkyard was right in suggesting this book to read, for he has given us tools so that we may succeed in the class. In addition, I feel the book has sufficiently given detail and advice on how to use these tools in order to fully open the doors of my memorizing capabilities. Although, the book helped increase my memorization skills, I feel there were some things the author did not express to clearly.
Things such as not enough practice problems and not enough examples held me back from completely understanding the topic of the chapter. Examples really help me understand the lesson he tries to teach, and I feel he does try to give examples but I feel there is a need for more. As said, I feel this book clearly gives the reader easy steps to help their memory devices, studying, and focus skills. I would definitely recommend this book if you desire to strengthen these skills.

Super Memory Super Student by Harry Lorayne is a book focused on helping students using several methods to memorize a variety of things. He is a famous author credited with several other books exploring the same topics. This is a review assigned by my teacher. I think that this book can work for many people within a select audience of students but many people including me would find the methods confusing and distracting.
The chapters are mostly the same, with some different memory devices, but a majority of the book can be summed up with devices focusing on relating words to numbers, and relating words phrases or any number of things with vivid imagery. I think that this can work for some people but when I try to think of numbers when remembering a word it just confuses me with all the intricacies of the decoding methods he recommends. I think that remembering the number combinations and the patterns to relate them to other things is much more effort than just remembering the word itself. The same could be said for the numerous methods of using creative imagery for thinking of of numbers and other languages.
The whole book seems like it uses the same exact strategy for everything and Harry just repeats the same thing for different subjects. The chapters in which he uses the Idea is frequently reused in chapters 4, 8, 9, 10, and 11. These chapters are about very different things but he uses the same trick for all of them. In some of these chapters he uses images to think of a single word. This is totally counterproductive as now you have to remember multiple words just to remind yourself of one word. Once again I think that it would just be easier to remember one word that's a little more complex.
The other type of memory device is using numbers to think of things that are not numbers, or using things that are not numbers to remember numbers. This makes absolutely no sense because it forces you to do extra thinking and memorizing than is needed. A glaring example of this is in chapter 6. In this chapter he shows you a way to remember numbers ,he replaces the numbers with letters which is nonsensical. Not only do you have to remember the exact same amount of characters but they are coded. The device he uses does not reduce the size of numbers just replaces them with proxy characters. Not only will you need to remember the exact letters for the number, but you also have to remember the numbers each letter corresponds to.
These are just some examples of the shortcomings of book. This book just doesn’t work for me for these reasons. I’m sure many others have had the same experience.

“Super Memory - Super Student: How to Raise Your Grades in 30 Days” Book Review

The author of “Super Memory - Super Student: How to Raise Your Grades in 30 Days” book is Harry Lorayne. The main theme of the book is memorization and using memory devices to remember things (helps improve grades) Harry Lorayne is an author and magician. He specializes in memory training, and uses a variety of memory devices such, as mnemonics, to remember things. He is successful magician because of his superior memory, and one of his memory books was a New York Times bestseller. “Super Memory - Super Student: How to Raise Your Grades in 30 Days” was assigned to me by my teacher, Mr. Halkyard. I was assigned to read it in Chemistry class to help memorize things in chemistry, as well as in other school subjects. Harry Lorayne wrote this book to share his methods of memorizing, in order to help students get better grades. He stresses memory devices such as mnemonics in order to memorize better. The point of my book review is too show that super memory has helpful ways to improve your memory, but also has some shortcomings.

The content of this book provides techniques to memorize things better, in order to get better grades. Lorayne offers different techniques for different subjects, and topics of memorization. Some chapters are about memorizing numbers, vocabulary words, definitions, foreign language vocabulary, SAT words, names, dates, history, spelling, maps, music, formulas in math, tables, and listening and reading.

In my opinion, the techniques offered in this book are too confusing. They might work for some people, but not for others. For example, assigning a letter to each word seems like twice the work. You then have to memorize each number and its letter instead of just memorizing the number. For some people however, letters are easier to remember than numbers, and these people would benefit from this strategy.Another problem I encountered while reading this book, is that the memorization techniques used are repetitive. The different chapters of the book are dedicated to how to memorize different things in different school subjects. However, the same few techniques are used throughout.

While this book on improving memorization might be useful for some, it is far too confusing to be useful for others. The techniques used are repetitive, and the manner in which the book is written is rather monotonous. Personally, I would not recommend “Super Memory - Super Student: How to Raise Your Grades in 30 Days” to a friend.

The book Super Memory-Super Student: How to Raise Your Grades in 30 Days by Harry Lorayne is a book which emphasizes that memory is the key to learning. Harry Lorayne is qualified to write this book because he is the world’s foremost memory training specialist. I am writing this book review for my Chemistry class. Harry Lorayne wrote this book to help people better memorize what they have learned. I think this book really helped in terms of learning new strategies to understand things.

In the book, Harry Lorayne presents various strategies for memorizing things that you learn in school. The chapters are all based on different memorization strategies, such as associating numbers with letters to help memorize different things. The book is very organized in terms of the layout of the information.

The first example of a memorization strategy that Harry Lorayne talks about in his book is using words and numbers to associate with each other. The first example of this is he uses numbers such as 1 to associate with the letter T. The second example I will use is when the author used the letter m m to represent 3.

The second example of a memorization strategy is to memorize names, numbers, and dates. An example of this is William Harrison (1841) bee to hairy (or hurry) son. The last example that I will use is when Harry Lorayne says John Tyler (1841) Toes to Tiler (one who tiles).

The book Super Memory-Super Student: How to Raise Your Grades in 30 Days by Harry Lorayne is a book that helps people memorize things they learned in school. Some things that are worth mentioning in this book is that he mentions the use of abbreviations as well as associating words with numbers and vice-versa. Overall, I think that this was a really good book that I got a lot out of.

Super Memory-Super Student by Harry Lorayne can be very helpful, but you need to have the right mindset, you need to be mature enough, and interested enough. The book is simply to help people be able to memorize things easier. When you think about school, a huge part of it is being able to memorize things. The book has a great intention because students need to be able to memorize things for almost every class if not every class.

This book can be really helpful to people. However, if you are going to read this book, I suggest that you take it very seriously. If you were to look through the book and not really care too much about it, than you probably should not read it because it may be a waste of your time. The goal of the book is to help you be able to memorize and be a better student. If you do not have the mindset of really wanting to get better, than it doesn’t make sense to read it. It requires time and focus… if you do not give those things, you will not get much out of it.

If you want to be able to memorize, this book is perfect. It gives tactics to help you be able to memorize things. Another thing about it is that a lot of the tactics it gives you, I noticed I do some of them sub-consciously. It is like getting your sub-conscious tactics on paper and making them clear to yourself. For the most part, It is very helpful and it can make you into a better student.

In conclusion, this book requires a large attention span but if you can focus it can really be a great tool. It is essentially a book full of tools for memorizing. The rest is up to you. Are you going to take this book very serious and use it to your advantage? If yes, I suggest to get this book and utilize it. In all, I recommend this book to certain people.

Super Memory by Harry Lorayne was written as a device for memory training. Harry Lorayne is an expert on memory training, and shows you how he applies his techniques to any subject. Living in New York, he is the world’s most known professional person on memory training.

The author uses mnemonic devices and methods such as using rhymes, sounds, and numbers to substitute for letters to memorize words. One of the most effective methods he describes in my opinion is to attach a word you want to memorize with a number, or a word similar to that that makes u remind yourself of it. For example, if you want to memorize the word ‘Fantastic’, you can substitute F with 6, or imagine a fan of the Lakers eating something very tasy, ‘tastic’.

One method that I found that I didn’t think would be effective at all make every single letter a number. It’s not like you need to memorize and decode secret codes sent by someone. You want to memorize a sentence or a long word with imagining, and relating it to similar words. Simply putting numbers for every single letter is extremely hard to keep track of if you need to remember 20 words for a quiz for example.

I believe that this book was very helpful and will be very helpful for those who have trouble memorizing, and especially for students. You probably won’t be able to memorize every single thing for a class such as Chemistry if you don’t use a method to memorize things easier, or life will be very hard for you. This book will help you a lot and give you hacks if you need help with memorization techniques in general.

Super Memory Super Student is written by Harry Lorayne. The book talks about a bunch of different studying methods used to remember information. The book was written for the purpose of helping students memorize information given out in class.

This book uses very good examples and explains things very well like, specially designed memorization for numbers and vocabulary. It does not only explain them really well but it shows you how to apply it and use it in your school work and studies.

Harry Lorayne explains and shows the link system very well. The link system connects words and letters to things like a number of symbols and can make memorizing things a lot easier. He goes very in-depth into this and explains it very well and makes it really easy to understand even if it is a far-fetched idea.

A lot of his methods are kinda weird and sound kind of crazy like the link method but he talks about and dedicates a whole page to talk about sticking with it no matter if you think it's weird or crazy which I think is very important.

I finally really like how he states that it is all up to the reader if he or she would like the methods that he explains in the book. He talks about that the reader needs to fully engage and dive into the methods so that these methods actually work which I think is very important for mastering the methods.

Overall I felt that Harry Lorayne did a great Job writing his book and explains all of his methods very well and uses a lot of details making them really easy to understand even if like I said they sound very crazy or weird.

Learn the Patterns
The Book Super Memory was created by Harry Lorayne, was created to help students with memorization. The book goes over some of the subjects that it aims to help you in like, vocabulary, names, and number. It also names some classes such as World history, math, and English. The book is helpful.
The book started off with describing one of the methods. She says “In order for you to remember any new thing. It must be associated, in some ridiculous way, with something you already know”. She labels some methods like “ One is to see an item larger than life- out of proportion”(pg 18) or “Exaggerated the number”(pg 18).
The Book has may examples of what you can use memorization in. some examples are for number, vocabulary, and history. The way you do it with a number is put a letter to each number. Or have the phrase that sounds like the number. She also has activities to do to help you continue to practice and remember.
I think that the most important chapters are Ch15 spelling, Ch17 memorize graphic material and Ch19 Formulas. Because you will need to know spelling for writing paper and for the test in English. Formulas for math and chemistry. If you want a job I science and memorizing graphic material. For going on road trips of sailing.
This book is very good for any person who is willing to take the time and do the activities and learning the methods. I recommend this book.

The book Super Memory Super Student by Harry Lorayne does a good job in helping the students with memorization by giving good tips and study tools. If you put in the time and the work, it can really help you out with your memorization and can significantly reduce the amount of time studying if you use the tools effectively.

This book was assigned to us by our chemistry teacher, but not only did it give us tools for studying the things he was assigning us, it also gave us tips and tricks for helping us with our other classes. I learned that there is no way in getting around the work, but there are certainly shortcuts to help speed things up.

One of the things Harry Lorayne does a good job of doing is touching upon phonic devices. He uses great tips to help the reader get as much out of this book as they can. “Me and her are wondering slowly” (67). Harry definitely has some helpful tips but, most of them are very confusing, on page 38 he uses letters to memorize numbers, and on page 134 he uses formulas to help you memorize other formulas. These tips are confusing and should be changed to something that makes more sense. All in all, This book is very helpful and has definitely improved my knowledge.

Reading this book and fully mastering all of the methods in it is time consuming and takes a lot of work, but if you’re willing to put in the time and effort, in it can really help you in the long run with all of your academics.

My Book Review on Super Memory - Super Student: How to Raise Your Grades in 30 days, By Harry Lorayne.
This book is based on memory training and developing your memory skills. The author Harry Lorayne is a memory specialist who helps people develop a better memory because you need a good memory in order to learn. He begins the book by telling us why he started memory training and what pushed him to do so. He goes on to teach us memory devices for various for things such as numbers, vocabulary, foreign languages, SAT words, Math, many different sciences, etc.

I personally found some of his memory devices in book to be quite complicated. For example he has a section in the book when he is talking about the hardness scale and the top ten minerals on the hardness scale. He suggested we think of what the minerals name reminded us of (EX: Talc=talk). I'm certain that most people can find this helpful, but I personally thought the process has you try to memorize to many things when you only need to remember one. I would personally prefer reviewing flash cards over and over again until I finally understand the material.

His memory tools for formulas and Math were probably the most helpful for me. Before reading this I was aware of things like PEMDAS (Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiply, Divide, Add, and Subtract). During this I learned acronyms like FOIL, which stands for Firsts, Outers, Inners, Lasts. Foil is explained like so, (a+b)(c+d) the firsts are a and c, the outers are a and d, the inners are b and c, and the lasts are b and d. I also learned how to remember the formula for Glucose, C6H12O6, by remembering the sentence Cash (C6) Hittin' (H12) Ouch (O6).

Harry's goal is to help the current generations of kids have a stronger memory so they can be successful in school and work. He has many good memory devices, but as I said earlier I prefer using flash cards. Some of his memory devices may start to confuse the current generation of children and the book may just need a simple update relating more to the new generation of kids. Harry's profession of teaching memory devices to people is something our world needs more of because if you don't have a super memory you don't have a super mind.

This is bar none the best book that I've read on the topic of memory. It is short, sweet, and to the point. Harry lays out the simplest model of memory I have ever encountered. He does so in a way that engages you in the process of using links and pegs within the first 15 pages.

After the first 15 minutes of reading, your understanding of what memory is will change.
Within the first 30, you will have the basic know-how to memorize a list of just about anything.
After finishing with the book you can apply that knowledge to just about any field imaginable and learn anything permanently much faster than you could ever believe yourself to imagine before.

This is no joke. If you know this guy's story, he's a D student who fumbled his way into becoming a memory expert after people told him that he just couldn't learn. He found a really easy way to remember stuff that even a 'dumb' person can learn.

By the end of the book, you'll learn that you don't have a good or bad memory. You have a memory and the game is all about how you use it. My memory's so good now that I've lost the book and need to purchase a new copy since the time I read it 3 years ago. In all seriousness though, I still remember and use the linking exercises that he talked about and want to do my own little review of the topic again.

As I read this years after finishing high school, I find that this book was definitely worth the time. The chapter on memorizing numbers and law was especially helpful, and I intend to apply the techniques at work. Only wish that we were taught these in middle school! Imagine the difference it would've made to my chemistry grades haha...

This isn’t a bad book but not all of these memory methods are going to work for me. To be honest he started losing me around the “assigning constant sounds to numbers” part. I may reread at a later time.

Super Memory: Super Student is a book by Harry Lorayne, a writer and memory training specialist. This book is a guide for students to be able to remember information for many subjects, using a few very useful techniques. We read this book to help us specifically in Chemistry, but it can be used in a myriad of different subjects. Lorayne wrote this book to help students remember things. I think, personally that only some of the techniques worked for me, but I can see why they would work for others.'
The book establishes a couple of key strategies for remembering vocabulary, as well as some specialized memorization for numbers and foreign language. Later on, Lorayne introduces smaller techniques and applies them to school subjects.
I think that the Link System of Memory and memory by association practices are very useful. These are very common practices, and hey are used in many areas, and many people use mnemonic devices and such. The link system is used in the book to connect different words, and to be able to think of words and ideas based upon those links. When you think about it, those links are the essential aspect of how our brains make connections, one thing setting off an internal link within our brains. Another thing, the association strategy is used by thinking of sentences or words to help you remember individual lists and the things in them. When you associate one thing strongly with an idea or word, your brain automatically starts to strongly associate the two, and you will think about that thing that way by default. This strategy is simply getting us to control what associations we make before we make them.
I don't think that the strategy for remember letters based on numbers really works for me. First of all, I think that the idea that there are only basically 10 consonant sounds and you need to associate those numbers with sounds to help you remember. I think that it is harder to go through the process of remembering the sound and associating it with the number than it is to just remember the number or sound alone. Secondly, I think that the added step of thinking of words for those numbers is an even farther step away from remembering the original number or word. All in all, I got more confused going through this process than it would be just to try to think of the word or number.
I also think that the explanation of some of the key processes were too vague, and things in this book need to be fully explained for them to work and be followed. For example, Lorayne uses the term Peg Word a lot, and he never really introduced this term fully, and that made it harder for me to grasp certain chapters because I couldn't find the full use for that term. Another example would be some of the association techniques he used for associating dates. He was too vague about how the association method works for dates, and the examples he used only made it more confusing than just committing the date and name to memory in a different way.
Overall, I think his main ideas were sound and helpful, but some of the more detailed and specific strategies were lacking in detail. I think that if he went into more detail and was more simple with his strategies, they would be easier to grasp and they wouldn't make things harder rather than easier.

Super Memory Book Review

This book review is on Super Memory- Super Student by Harry Lorayne. The main theme of the book is about the author teaching different memory methods and systems that will be useful for future reference, especially in high school and college. He also teaches it in a way in order for us to memorize the use of each system as well and will become a reflex whenever we come across a peculiar situation. He wrote specifically for students of all ages and grades in order for them to raise their grades, improve their memory skills, and so they have fun doing it.
Lorayne describes and explains different memory systems specifically how when and when to use them. He has a section of chapters dedicated to each system and each chapter indicates different methods of use for that specific system. But in order to use these systems you one has to put a lot of effort and read every single word of the book, no skimming. One of the systems is the Association system. The author explains that this is system when one tries to remember a word or words, he uses a word that sounds similar to it in order to remind the person what word they are supposed to remember at that time, hence the system name association. Another system he explains is the Peg Word System. He says that you can’t use this system unless you’ve mastered the art of the Association system. The Peg Word system is using words in order to remember numbers. There are many other systems in the book that all have similar connection like the two presented.
Although this book was effective, an argument could be made that the Peg Word System can be confusing. Since the Peg word system is using words to remember numbers, it can be confused with using numbers in order to remember words. This can cause with the different words used in both systems and lead to a mix up causing stress during the time of usage for both systems. If you are especially using these systems in order to remember numbers or words in sequence it can cause catastrophe. The whole confusion can lead to decrease in grades proving that some parts of the book aren’t as effective as other sections.
Another argument that could be made about the book is that in order for the systems to be effective and to be useful in the future is you have to put in a lot of effort when using the systems. Since the systems require of imagination you have to work really hard in order to make an image in your mind that will relate to the memorized subject. If you don’t put in effort it you won’t remember what you’re trying to work on. Then in the future when you try to remember it won’t work, it will almost be as if you didn’t study it at all.
To conclude this book review, the information provided, the arguments presented prove that Harry Lorayne specifically wrote this book for students of all ages and grades in order to improve their memorization skills leading to improved grades. To restate my arguments, this book has a system that is confusing because it uses the same components just in different orders. Also, in order for the systems to actually work you have to put in effort and hard work.

Super Memory: Super Student

Super Memory by Harry Lorayne is a book that looks to improve your ability to memorize information by using some devices and tactics. Harry Lorayne is an American magician and a memory-training specialist who is known because of his memory training. He gives and tells you about some mnemonic devices to remember different terms and other things like dates and numbers. Using these devices, triggers the brain and allows you to remember things easier and study more efficiently. This book shows ways to develop memory skills that can be very useful during your time in high school as well as in college when learning and studying new things gets difficult.
The first skill in learning information is to create a story based on the information given. Learning large amounts of words and dates can be tough when doing all at the same time so being able to do this will break up the learning to sections. With these words or things you can create absurd situations that will be remembered for a long time, the more absurd and weird it is the better off you will be. Being able to create stories will exercise not only your brain, but your imagination and observations skills that can be useful in other classes. Having the ability to create stories will focuses on your concentration, attention and awareness as putting them into a story requires thought that will eventually pay off.
The second skill mentioned in this book is the ability to make a memory game for yourself. Games are a great way to be happy and have fun at the same time as learning which can make a major learning/ memory problem into a game. This allows for critical thinking that can result in a larger capacity of learning in different forms: flashcards, games and lists. Studying is often a hassle and requires a good amount of work, but with games you will have fun triggering the brain cells and causing you to remember them easier.
The third and last skill in learning information is to picture the information in absurd and weird phrases and situations. Having very absurd and out of this world phrases and situations, the easier you will memorize them. This absurdness triggers the part of the brain that connects to your memory to intertwine and become a sense that can’t be forgotten in a short period of time. Being able to connect the information with a phrase or story creates a deeper understanding involving the topic or subject. This can be useful when applying this information to similar things that will remind you of the term.
In conclusion, as a high schooler this book teaches me a lot of skills that can be useful in my academic life as I continue my education. The ability to visualize the word and apply it can really help in the long run to understand the words in a different way. Lastly, memory can be taught in a slow process that has to be shown when given the chance to apply it to learning and studying.

Super Memory!

This book, by Harry Lorayne, has done exactly what it set out to do. We are introduced to many useful memory aids/tricks/techniques. While a superficial reading of this book or any of the techniques will most likely lead a person to believe that this is all hogwash (as my father and brother both seemed to believe when I told them about these exciting memory techniques), you can rest assured that this book will deliver REAL results. There are many exercises in the book and it is recommended that you follow along and complete them as you read. (This will mean that it will take much longer to read these 180 pages than many other collections of 180 pages.)

The key to the success of these memory training systems is Original Awareness. When we actively think about something or can make an association between two things, we greatly increase out ability to recall the information. (Surely this is useful for everyone, for what is knowledge without memory?)

A great quote, from this book, which concisely sums up this idea is the following:

"In order for you to remember any new thing, it must be associated with something you already know or remember."

For any of the naysayers out there, I would like to direct your attention to another quote from this book, which I fully agree with:

"Even if the systems didn't work, they would still work! That's because the bit of effort involved in trying to apply them pinpoints your concentration, focuses your attention, forces you to be Originally Aware. . . (It also exercises your imagination and observation.) Of course, the systems do work - exceptionally well, giving you one heck of a learning tool!"

I personally spent a fair amount of time, over the course of 3 or 4 days, reading this book and completing nearly all of the exercises (the great thing is, YOU can choose what you want to remember or what to pass over - and really, this is the goal of the book: to remember what you WANT to remember!) I memorized the basic Peg System, and added my own ideas to it. With this technique, I memorized (and hence, learnt as real knowledge) the 44 President's of the United States (in order!) as well as the 22 Prime Ministers of Canada (in order!). Oh yeah, and once you know the technique, you can master these things quickly. (I personally learnt the Presidents AND Prime Ministers in about 90 minutes - and, being a Canadian, I hadn't even heard of many of the Presidents!)

So, if you're interested in improving HOW TO THINK ABOUT THINKING, then pick up a copy of this book!

(For those interested, I made a number of status updates as I read this book, and detailed a few of the chapters)

Super Memory Book Review
Hello, my name is Carlos Armendariz and I am here to give you some of my thoughts on the book by Harry Lorayne, "Super Memory-Super Student." The main theme of this book, is learning how to remember. Harry Lorayne gives you many study skills, techniques, and methods. It's an overall good book, great book if you want to raise your grades. He wrote this book because he cares about the education of the community, and wants people to succeed in school, starting with study skills. I believe that this book was written to help people in school learn how to remember things better, such as vocabulary words, formulas for certain subjects, and many other useful methods.
In this book, he gives you many study skills. These study skills can be used for subjects
such as English, Math, and Science. He gives you a technique to remember words, a method to
remember math formulas, and a technique to remember the periodic table. These techniques are
called the Peg System, which is a technique that will allow you to memorize whatever you want
in and out of order by number. Another technique he teaches us is the Link System, which is a
technique that allows you to remember any number of things in sequence. A strategy that I
thought was really successful for me was the Memory Graph, which basically allowed you to
memorize locations, charts, layouts, at the same time, and information of those locations.
The author of this book, gives many good study skill techniques. He shows many ways
on how to remember things more clearly, formulas of math and science, and many strategies on
how to learn to remember, kind of tricky right? Harry Lorayne's techniques helped me out a lot,
especially the Link System, which enabled me to remember things in sequence, and also another
technique that he taught us was the Peg System. These methods allowed me to boost my grade in
math and history by remembering dates of events and helped me remember formulas. I thought
the systems, strategies, and methods he taught us in this book were truly fascinating. I never
thought I could remember so many things in such little time, which is ultimately what he wants
I believe that this book was created to help people in school, learn how to remember
things better. He gives you very good methods and techniques of remembering what you learn
more efficiently. Harry Lorayne wants people to be successful in their subjects. He wants them
to be stress free and remember more things in less time and better than ever before. This book helped me in many ways, I recommend reading this book and trying his systems.

Super Memory Super Student

In the book Super Memory Super Student, Harry Lorayne Shows the "three r's" In a very easy way. To start off, Harry Lorayne was a magician and specialized in memory training. She was a movie star the 1930s because of her magic skills. For class, assigned by our chemistry teacher. Harry Lorayne wrote this book so students can have an easier time with school so their grades can improve. Harry Lorayne uses different skills so that the reader understand what they are doing while completing school work. As I mentioned in my first sentence, the three R's represent rithmatic, righting, and reading.
Substituting words with different words and numbers help you remember them easier. There's a rule according to this method. The rule is that the silent letters do not have numbers. An example of this method can be substituting "q" with 9 and "b" with 6. This method is primarily called the Peg system. Using an over proportion thinking method will guarantee you to remember it. This method is the method which helps me the most. For example, if you had to remember a list of animals, you would try to to imagine the animals doing a crazy thing. Another example can be if you needed to remember a certain tiger, you would imagine the tiger bungee jumping. Creating a story with a group of words you have to remember will be useful. There is many ways this can work but I found remember the different types of rocks the easiest. For example, " Someone is calling heights (calcite) and the floor yells right each time." This is a great example of how just using it in a small story can implant it in your brain. Use acronyms to be precise in remembering. For example, the five lakes are somewhat difficult to remember. You can remember them by using the acronym "HOMES" and using the first letter of each name for a different type of lake. Many of this developing original awareness at the same time. Many people often say you have to be smart but you just need to find out what works best for you.
Harry Lorayne uses different skills so that the reader understand what they are doing while completing school work. Using these methods, you will be a master for learning. This will guarantee you success. Implementing them in my everyday life to have success in school. These methods will help me get into a better college. Last of all, she uses these methods to show and relieve students of difficult written and spoken tasks.

The book Super Memory was written by Harry Lorayne. This book was recommended by my Chemistry teacher. The main Theme of this book is to help you with memory and study skills that can become a major key to your success in school and for the rest of your life. Harry wrote this book to help young men and women with their study habits and tricks for their academics. This book was a very helpful and interesting book for me personally I did not love all the tricks that were given but some inspired me to think about things a completely different way. I love when I am shown something new and creative and that is why I really liked this book because it gave me a different perspective on things.

One study skill that Harry talks about is the Peg system. The Peg system is a way to help you with memorizing things such as equations or numbers. The Peg system helps you by creating a rhyme in your head that is associated with the number. For Example Three bee Four snore Five dive. Though I did not do exactly this when remembering numbers it made me think about how I could start associating equations with other significant words and memories.

Another system that Harry talks writes about is the Link System. The Link System also known as the chain method is a way to remember a list of words that seem random and unorganized. Let’s say that you are taking a test on the computer and it asks you to remember these words, ship, television, food, water and window. Now once you are given these words create a sentence with these words in it such as, The ship had a big television with a lot of food and water right next to the window.

I really appreciate how Harry Lorayne put in a lot of time and thought when writing this book because this book could help so many kids with memory techniques. I know for a fact that even though I did not use just those techniques his ideas impacted my view on memory greatly and I really support that. I Personally think this book is really good and has many tricks that benefit you in so many different ways but you won’t be able to notice it until you read it.

Both the Peg System and the Link System have been very interesting topics to read about and I really appreciate that the book is not just for one class it revolves around so much more. Though I did not use these systems all the time it brought me to new ideas and interesting concepts that I will use in the future. I would like to thank Harry Lorayne for these ideas and memory tricks that were talked about because i will always remember these.

Super Memory- Super Student: How to raise your grades in 30 days written by Harry Lorayne is a book about using "easy" skills to help with memory in order to raise your grades. When looking at the information of this book I found out Harry Lorayne was a memory training specialist which raised my expectations a lot. Harry Lorayne wrote this book because he wants to help students improve their memories with ease to raise grades. this book gave me mostly very helpful information and me being the target readers fro Harry Lorayne it helped me with my memorization a lot.

The first thing this book helped me a lot with is the Nemonic devices that it suggested in order to memorize certain words of phrases. The idea is to create a short sentence that acts as an acronym to remember a certain set of words of phrases. This is a very smart thing to suggest. The first reason is because it is very creative and based on your self. It helps you remember because you make it up in your mind. This is also very good because I used it personally on many tests. I used the sentence "Ty Goes Manatee Kill During Class Morning, Morning Country, Noon" to memorize the Metric Prefixes for my chemistry class. Even though It does not make too much sense it helped me to memorize very effectively.

Another good argument that I will make about this book is that it is great for students and especially high school students. It has a full section on learning how to memorize vocabulary and definitions. This is obviously effective for the SAT as it requires a large knowledge of vocabulary. It also helps college students in giving a lesson on proper note taking. This is very important at university because you must take proper notes that help you memorize the information properly and this also works in high school. Overall the book is very effective in high school because it gives many lessons on how to study properly. I completely agree with this argument because I have used a lot of the lessons and it has heavily improved because of the way I have studied and taken notes leading up to the studying of tests.

This book for the most part helped me in improve my study habits and learning process. It helped by creating mostly easy lessons to help you as well as being very based around you and how your brain works. I definitely suggest this book for any high school or university student wanting to know how to improve their memory as well as study and learning habits.

The title of this book is Super Memory Super Student. The author of the book is Harry Lorayne. Lorayne is a magician and memory training specialist. The book advertises memorization tactics for students, and the ability to boost grades in 30 days. This book review is mandatory for students in my high school Chemistry 1 course. The author penned this book in order to provide his expertise to students and improve their in-class performance and grades. The strategies provided in the book provide students with memorization tactics which is crucial to succeeding in Chemistry. “There is no learning without memory”. Chapters cover a variety of memorization topics for classes including Chemistry, Law, Medicine, Vocabulary, History, and many more. The book covers how to eliminate the stress that comes with studying and much more.

Lorayne provides a compelling alternative to notetaking in classes that require listening to an instructor while taking notes. Lorayne provides a (somewhat) silly, and simpler version of a passage about Greece. He replaces words with phrases that are easier to remember. Then when asked to plug the information back into the original passage, I was able to do it because of how easy to remember the substituted words. As a visual learner, replacing more complicated phrases with easy to remember images proved successful.

Although it may work for some, I can not see myself using his method for learning vocabulary in other languages.Lorayne recommends visualizing words in English in place of the words in the other language. For example, he says that the word for purse in Portuguese is bolsa. He recommends visualizing a large purse made out of balsa wood. Although this is applicable in this scenario, I couldn’t see it being applied to every word in Portuguese. While this might work for a handful of words, I don’t see it as a long term solution for learning a language.
Although his method could work for some, a flashcard based system such as Anki seems to be more successful, although Anki wasn’t around when this book was published. When a word can be learned in the three necessary linguistic components, it is truly committed to memory.

In conclusion, Super Memory Super Student is a solid (but somewhat outdated) grade booster, and memory enhancer. Although many of his exercises prove to be helpful, many of them are outdated and can be achieved by other, more technological means.
