Dropped Sam off at the airport for the remainder of his year-long deployment and decided to take the kids to the library on the way home to lighten the mood. Catherine picked this one off the shelf and I thought, "How cute! A grandpa shows old pictures to his grand kids, fostering their sense of security and historical significance. Maybe we can even look at old pictures of our family after we read it tonight?" BUT THEN THE GRANDPA DIES RIGHT AFTER THE SLIDE SHOW WHILE THE KIDS ARE SPENDING THE NIGHT AT HIS HOUSE. Gah! Even my real time edited version of the story (while internal ABJECT HORROR) couldn't save my kids from asking, "What happened to the grandpa? Why is everyone crying? What happened to the mommy? Is everyone okay?" Just the worst possible timing, all around.
