Echoes of a Lie was about 30-year-old Jessica Miller, a graphics designer, and 30-something-year-old Kevin Adams, an architect. (Kevin's age was never specified.)

This was a story about how a woman named Jessica managed to survive a four-year relationship with a narcissist named Kevin. Their relationship had started fast, and by the time 8 months had passed, they had already purchased a house (not yet married, I think, but the timeline is uncertain on that, as it was never specified when they actually got married). Two months after moving into the house, the gaslighting and other narcissistic actions were being pulled on Jessica to isolate her from work, friends, and family, along with the memory tampering he did. That was the life she endured for four solid years, until one day, she just couldn't take it anymore and left.

Over the following months, Kevin did everything to "woo" her back, but he also kept up his narcissistic activities...and his cheating. When Jessica learned about the multiple women, she decided it was time to put a halt to his lies and nefarious ways...and she went scorched earth on him in a major way.

Instead of a romance story, this was more of a psychological thriller...without all the thrill. There was a lot of angst, drama, and a general emotional rollercoaster, and it even had some spiciness. However, this wasn't about saving a marriage in trouble, but rather how one woman helped several other women survive the manipulations of a narcissist.

It did leave quite a few unresolved issues, which detracted from the storyline, so that made less of an impact than it would have if certain things had been better explained.

The story, told from the single POV of the FMC, was heavy on the narcissism and the effects it had on each of the women involved. The way they went about scorching the MMC's life was epic...and well deserved. Even though the reader never got to see the POV of the MMC, we still got to read how things turned out for him and deduce from that information as to whether or not he made any changes in his life. I'll let you read that part for yourself. We did read a lot of growth from the FMC, which was already well-developed and mature. The author showed how much she had been able to heal from what the MMC had done to her.

I gave this a three-star rating, mainly for the scorched-earth revenge that was done. That alone was worth all three stars.

Really liked this

Short but to the point, jess is married to Kevin after he swept her off her feet, he's seems solid, attentive but the cracks show in his control of her ,the gaslighting, the need for her to apologise, she finally realises she's had enough but he still controls her even after she lives elsewhere, then she finds out he's been seeing other woman and he's used the same pattern to woo them and have 5 separate relationships so jess finally shows him that their really isn't a better revenge for a woman scorned esp 5 women scorned and they all come together to show Kevin their worth, nice story about strong women and how they get their lives back

Great depiction of a narcissist's psyche. What probably initiates this kind of sick disposition is when the person practices his control on someone who is insecure and gets away with it. Then builds his repertoire while he builds his ego. Great illustration here. The heroine climbed out of that insecurity and faced up to the reality of how controlled she was. Then as things were exposed, the gravity of what her husband was actually doing was exposed. So it was a great read.

surprisingly good

I really wasn’t expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised it was good.
I want to thank the writer for not using the f$&k word so much. It actually takes a good writer to express their dramas etc with out using such foul language.

Content warning:

It feels good when a narcissist is unmasked.

A favorite line: "My intuition hadn't been broken; it had been screaming at me…"

Oh my gosh. Kevin was crazy, brutally narcissistic, and a totally liar. I loved the spreadsheet. I loved how they brought him down.

Riley did a great review of this story! Kevin was a definite waste of oxygen and it is impressive that the women involved came out of his purgatory with their selves in tact. Well written.

Boring!

This book did not hold my interest! I just thought the whole premise of the book was boring. It not only starts slow and dull, it stays that way!
