She may call him dad, but I call him Daddy…

For most of her life, Alexis has only had herself to rely on—that is, until fate put Marcee’s locker next to hers, giving her a best friend and surrogate family.

Her parents are neglectful, boys mistreat her, and classmates brand her “Sexy Lexie,” a nickname she wears like armor, refusing to give them the satisfaction of knowing how much it hurts. The only person in the world she can be herself around is Marcee.

Marcee’s dad, Finn, prioritizes being a good father to his daughter, even after ending his long-term marriage to her mother. A couple of years after his divorce and a long stint abroad, Finn comes home to see that Alexis has grown up—and the feelings she stirs in him are anything but fatherly.

A chance encounter at a nightclub leads to an unforgettable night. It was supposed to be a one-time thing...but neither can walk away.

Alexis wants to rewrite her story—but falling for her best friend’s dad might cost her the only family she’s ever had. Is love worth the fallout?

"His Good Girl" by Laura Hartwell is a forbidden age-gap daddy k1nk romance between the FMC and her best friend's father. Check the TWs because I can imagine this will give a lot of people the ick based on its premise alone. I enjoyed parts of this book, but it is very, *very* spice-heavy, almost to the point of distraction. It's about 90% spice. Don't get me wrong, I love it when books get hot and heavy, but it feels like the spice often overrides the plot the majority of the time. Alexis and Marcee are thrown into each other's orbit when they enter high school at the same time and become best friends. Where Alexis's parents are absent, it seems like Marcee's parents are going to be together forever... until they aren't. Years after they graduate from high school, Finn, Marcee's father, can't stop thinking about Alexis, even though he knows it's wrong. Sure, she might have had a crush on him and thought he was sexy, but he was her best friend's dad... but now, she's all grown up, and while they try to fight their feelings for one another, they can't fight fate. They start sneaking around behind Marcee's back, and their quick fling becomes a whole lot more. As I mentioned, I liked parts of this book. I did enjoy some of the emotional connection between Finn and Alexis, though it was a little icky at times, too, considering he knew her when she was underage. I feel like their chemistry thrived solely on the forbidden, taboo aspects of their coupling. I wish I had believed in them more as a couple. The spicy elements are fine and even quite hot, but there are way too many of them. It's almost as if the spicy scenes were written beforehand, and the story gaps were filled in after the fact. Still, I have no doubt this book will have its fans. I just wish I had connected to the characters more!

Thank you to Laura Hartwell for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.

ARC REVIEW

I love the age gap and taboo romance so much and this was the perfect combination of both. Usually I'm not the biggest fan of the daddy kink in books, but it fits so perfectly in this book.

I'm really happy that the author of this book made it very clear multiple times that Finn didn't look at Alexis in any sexual way when she was a minor. I'm also relieved that Alexis went after Finn instead of the other way around because that can give predator vibes very fast.

I can see myself in Alexis and I really liked that. She is such a strong person and really has been through some shit. She actually does have a lot of things in common with me, with her looks and personality. I love it when I can relate to the FMC in a book.

Finn is a good guy though, including the fact that he has a secret relationship with his daughter's best friend. He knows that what they're doing isn't right, mostly because it is behind his daughters back but he really loves Alexis. Sometimes love is just enough even if there are problems along the way.

My favorite quotes:
"My world isn't right without you in it."
"Did I step on a fucking fairy or something equally karmically evil?

This book is straight fire I tell you. It's an age gap and definitely forbidden, best friend's dad book. It starts with high school but that is just to show the relationship between the FMC Alexis and her best friend Marcee and also the neglect Alexis has from her parents. No grooming or anything before over the age of 18.

Alexis definitely has daddy issues since both of her parents are never there for her. She has her best friend and her family she can count on. This had definitely made Lexi a bit promiscuous but as she has gotten older she wants different things like a relationship. She has definitely had a crush on Finn, Marcee's dad, but that's all she thinks it will ever be.

Finn is such a great MMC. He is there for his daughter and working on his career and himself since he got divorced years ago. When he sees Lexi older he can't believe his eyes when he notices something about her. He is seeing her as a woman and finds himself attracted to her.

This book definitely heats up and has a good amount of fire which is definitely hot. Neither want Marcee to find out but secrets can't be held for long and what happens when Marcee does find out? Great book if you enjoy age gap and a bit taboo!

ARC REVIEW | His Good Girl by Laura Hartwell

I found a new ick… unfortunately.

Lol in all seriousness I was so excited for this (because of the daddy thing) but then I got icked out.

The fact that Finn knew her for years before she was technically an adult just gave me the creeps.

Also, Alexis has serious daddy/abandonment issues, and she didn’t appear mature either.
I was just waiting for someone to suggest therapy to this girl.

Their relationship just seemed too physical to me. I can’t say I saw anything ’sweet’ or extraordinary about how Finn was treating her. Nothing made me say “aww”.

I don’t think the best friend’s dad/daughter’s best friend thing is for me 🥴 not in this context anyway.

The story was pretty fast-paced and easy to read so if this is your thing you can totally check it out.

Thank you @lovenotes.pr for the ARC ✨

You know those times where you go into a book thinking "this will be a fun little ride" and then it gives you everything you didn't know you were looking for in a book and reinvigorates your love for reading? Yeah. This is that book.

I felt like I could relate a lot to Alexis, especially regarding her high school experiences and how it warped her relationship with and perception of sex. Throw in a hot older man with a Daddy kink and some sleep-sex stuff and you have just made me a life-long fan of your work.

I loved everything about this story. I loved their text conversations, their flirting, the sex was hot, the story line flowed, it had me sitting here with a goofy grin, kicking my feet, and making sure my 'appliances' were fully charged.

Enough background and secondary characters and events were in this book which also made it flow and not get boring - as soon as you'd start to question 'I wonder whatever happened with...' it was mentioned or brought up, which I enjoyed because it felt like attention was paid and characters/events weren't just put in for a quick little conflict or to progress the plot.

Absolutely recommend this book - absolutely adored it and will be buying a physical copy for my bookshelf.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

His Good Girl is definitely one of those books that leans hard into the forbidden, messy, emotionally complicated side of romance. It alone brings a ton of tension, but what really stands out is how much pain and vulnerability seems to sit underneath Alexis’s story. She’s clearly been failed by a lot of people in her life, and that makes her need for love, safety, and belonging hit harder.

Alexis hides everything behind a persona, and that always makes for a more emotional read because you know there’s so much more going on under the surface. The fact that Marcee and her family became her safe place adds a lot of weight to the story, because it means every choice she makes has the potential to blow up the only real sense of home she’s ever had.

Finn’s part in the story makes everything even more complicated. It wasn't a light or easy romance at all, it's like one of those reads where every decision comes with fallout, and the emotional stakes are just as intense as the relationship itself. That’s really what makes a premise like this work: not just the taboo, but the cost of it.

Thank you to Laura Hartwell and LoveNotes PR for this arc in exchange for an honest review

Alexis grew up around Finn and had a crush on him in high school but never thought anything would come of it. Finn sees Alexis in the background of one of his daughter Marcee’s FaceTime calls and saw how grown up Alexis was now. Finn couldn’t believe his eyes. Alexis never thought she’d be loved by anyone and Finn never expected Alexis to be his everything.

I love all the endearing things Finn calls Alexis. Finn standing up for Alexis at graduation because her family never showed up was amazing. That first FaceTime call years later was not what I expected. I feel bad that Alexis used intimacy as a way to protect herself. The jealous in this is real. That first meeting after Finn got back to the states was quite funny. I was on board with everything that happened on the couch the first night Alexis spent at Finn’s new place. Such a beautiful ending. I loved everything about this book.

This was such a fast, bingeable read—I flew through this one as I kept wanting to know what would happen next especially with a secret relationship! 🫢 If I’m honest, I kept waiting for the hammer to drop in an “oh no” kind of moment. Butttt there were numerous ohhhhh yesssss kind of moments! 🫠

The story had a strong pull right from the start, and I found myself hooked on the dynamic between the characters despite how messy and complicated things became due to the forbidden romance. There were definitely some standout moments that kept me turning the pages (passenger seat, whipped cream, and all the sexy scenes)! 🥵

Overall it delivered an entertaining and satisfying read. I am a fan of Daddy Finn.

This book hit such a sweet spot for me. I’m always here for an age gap with a little taboo mixed in, and this one delivered. I’m usually not big on the “daddy” dynamic in books, but somehow it worked so well here and didn’t feel forced at all.

One thing I really appreciated was how clearly the author handled the timeline between Finn and Alexis. It was made very obvious that there was nothing inappropriate when she was younger, which made their relationship feel a lot more comfortable to read. I also liked that Alexis was the one who pursued things—it avoided that weird, predatory energy that can sometimes come with stories like this.

Alexis was honestly one of my favorite parts. I felt like I could relate to her in a lot of ways, and I love when a main character feels real and strong but still human. She’s been through a lot, and you can really see that shape who she is.

Finn is complicated, but in a way that made sense. He knows their situation isn’t exactly right, especially with how close she is to his daughter, but his feelings for Alexis are genuine. Their relationship isn’t perfect, but it shows how messy love can be sometimes.

Shoutout to LoveNotesPR and Laura Hartwell for this spicy spicy read!

Super detailed, no filters and still had a great background story. The relationship between Alexis and Finn definitely expats Marcee, but its nice to see that there is mending occurring. Loved the epilogue. Even as much as I hated the attack scene, I loved the aftermath. Absolutely would recommend this book! Spice level is top tier. But as stated, there is actual substance and story as well. Give it a try!!

Angsty, addictive, and definitely taboo. The age gap + best friend’s dad dynamic brings tons of tension, and I was hooked on the drama and secret relationship.
Alexis is easy to root for, and the found family element adds some heart.
Not for everyone due to the taboo and power imbalance can feel uncomfortable, and some moments lean more on drama than depth.

2.75⭐️ (almost a 3!)

His Good Girl by Laura Hartwell has some solid potential. It could have been a great romance/erotica, especially with its exploration of an age-gap relationship. It’s clear that the author’s goal was more to write erotica than a fully fleshed-out novel, and in some ways, it definitely delivers on that front.

What I liked:
I really enjoyed the chemistry between the two main characters. Once the story focused more on their relationship and moved away from some of the side plots, their dynamic became quite sexy and engaging. The sex scenes were descriptive and, unsurprisingly, very steamy.

What I didn’t love:
While the relationship had potential, I had a hard time with the fact that the male lead had known the female protagonist since she was a child. I’m aware that this is a fantasy element, and it was presented as such, but the story didn’t quite provide enough justification for why he suddenly found her attractive as an adult. In the context of the book, the time jumps were meant to help move this along, but they felt rushed and didn’t provide enough context for me to fully buy into the dynamics.

In a story like this, where the power dynamics are crucial, it’s important to explore them in depth. A best friend having sex with her best friend’s dad is one of those scenarios that’s usually glossed over in certain kinds of media, like pornography, where context isn't needed. But in a book, where the background and emotional stakes are much more important, those dynamics need to be addressed more thoroughly. The story doesn’t quite do that, and as a result, it feels like some of the key emotional aspects are left unexplored.

Additionally, the conflict with the FMC and her best friend felt resolved too quickly, and the deeper issues surrounding the power imbalance weren’t addressed enough. I found it a bit unrealistic that her friend’s main issue was the one-night stand, rather than the more complicated dynamics at play, such as the father-daughter relationship and the age-gap attraction. Also, if my best friend suddenly became my step-parent, I’d probably have a lot more to say about it than what the book suggests.

There’s also the question of the FMC’s relationship with her father. He’s distant throughout most of the book, and I felt like there was more to explore there, why did he pull away, and what motivated his return? Lastly, while the FMC is described as “broken and codependent,” we don’t really see her take the time to work on herself before jumping into this relationship.

In the end, His Good Girl is a fun, steamy read if you’re looking for something erotica-focused, but it could have been stronger if it had explored the deeper themes and dynamics more thoroughly. It had the potential to be more compelling with a bit more balance

POV: dual
Tropes: Best Friend’s Dad, Age Gap (22/42), Found Family

Alexis has been best friends with Marcee since freshman year of high school. Marcee’s dad, Finn, has always been kind to Alexis and of course she had a little crush on him. When Alexis and Marcee leave for college, Finn and Marcee’s mom get divorced and Finn starts traveling frequently for work, so Alexis rarely sees him anymore. Then one summer everything changes. Finn suddenly sees the grown-up version of Alexis and can’t get her out of his head, and Alexis’ childhood crush becomes so much more. They try to fight their attraction because of Marcee, but they keep running into each other and eventually neither of them can resist anymore. Can they figure out how to be together without losing Marcee in the process?

I loved Finn. He’s a great dad who clearly cares deeply about his daughter. I also appreciated that he truly never viewed Alexis as anything more than his daughter’s friend until she was an adult. He’s confident, sexy, and mature without being written like he’s ancient. One thing I liked was that the author didn’t constantly emphasize his age. In age gap romances, men in their late 30s or early 40s are sometimes written like they’re much older. He still enjoys life and going out, just not in an immature way. The only time his age really weighs on him is when he remembers Alexis is the same age as his daughter.

I had a harder time connecting with Alexis at first. She sometimes came across as immature, but over time you can really see her grow and gain confidence. Alexis has very uninvolved parents, and she hides a lot of her insecurity behind outward confidence in her body and sexuality. Watching her slowly open up and become more secure in herself added a lot to the story.

Finn and Alexis worked well together and their chemistry was obvious. The spice was hot. There’s voyeurism, toy play, fun in public, sleep play, and more. They definitely struggle to keep their hands off each other.

One trigger warning I want to mention: early in the book Alexis briefly dates another guy. When she breaks up with him after he cheats, he doesn’t take it well. He ends up stalking her and attacking her toward the end of the book, which could be difficult for some readers.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I was honestly surprised it was written by a debut author. The writing could occasionally be a little cleaner, but it was better than a lot of established authors I’ve read. The vibes were definitely there and I felt fully immersed in Finn and Alexis’s story. I had a hard time putting it down.

Thank you Love Notes PR and Laura Hartwell for the opportunity to read this book early!

Laura Hartwell’s debut novel His Good Girl was given to me as an ARC. I want to thank Love Notes PR for the opportunity to read this indie author’s first book. This book is definitely a forbidden love story full of tension and yearning. The feelings Alexis and Finn feel for one another built slowly. If you can handle the forbidden “daddy” aspect with a lot of uncertainty, then this will be the read for you. It is an age gap and a best friend’s dad storyline. It was an immediate yes for me! It did feel extremely physical in the beginning. I was not sure if they were going to be able to go deeper and develop something worth the risk.

Finn has known Alexis since she was a young child. His daughter has been best friends with Lexie forever. She is completely off limits. However, when she gets older he sees her in a different light. Something shifts and the two lovers try to deny the feelings and attraction that pulls them together like magnets. They fail miserably and secrets are kept from the people they love the most. When it all uncovered the result is devastating, but eventually not irreparable.

Alexis has had a tough and lonely start to her life. She just screams daddy issues and insecurities from the very beginning of this book. She is young and has a lot to learn about herself. I did not feel like Finn was grooming her or taking advantage of her. There was a foundation of love and respect before there was anything physical. However, the “daddy” element did not do it for me this time. I think he was really like a father figure to Alexis in the beginning. It was hard to look past that at times. All said and done though, Finn and Alexis are two consenting adults.

These two were willing to take the risk and give into their forbidden desires. Finn had to overcome his hesitation of the age gap and fear of the fall out from other’s opinions. Alexis had to work on her trust and self esteem. She had to protect and care for herself her whole life. By the time I got to the last quarter of the book I was completely rooting for them. Their love story felt genuine and deeper than physical as the book continued. If Laura Hartwell decides to continue their story or write similar storylines, then I would be interested in reading it. I think you should take the risk like this couple did and give this book a chance.

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️.5/5

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book, so thank you to Laura Hartwell and Love Notes PR for the opportunity to read and review.

His Good Girl is a best friend’s dad erotic romance that delivers exactly what it promises. If you’re not a fan of heavy spice, daddy kink and age gap this probably won’t be the book for you. But if you enjoy those elements, you’ll likely have a great time with this one.

The story follows Alexis and Finn as their initially lust-filled connection develops into something deeper. Going in, I knew what kind of book this was meant to be and it delivered on those expectations. At times the dialogue and language felt a little cringe/immature (especially from Finn, who is meant to be in his forties) but it didn’t bother me too much given the tone of the book.

For me, the story really found its stride around the halfway point. Once the emotional side of the relationship started to develop and we got more insight into the characters, the pacing and flow improved. I also appreciated the glimpses into Alexis’ real “daddy issues” and how they shaped her. The way Finn’s love and care helped her move past those issues and see her worth was beautiful.

One small element that didn’t quite work for me was the subplot involving Alexis’ ex-situationship. It didn’t really move the story forward or impact the characters’ decisions, so it felt a bit overly dramatic and unnecessary. The book didn’t need it.

Overall, this was a quick, easy, very spicy read with heart and a satisfying HEA. It’s not trying to be overly deep or complex, it’s meant to be fun, spicy and a little over the top, and in that sense it absolutely delivers.

One small heads-up for readers: Finn and Alexis do have a few interactions while she is still in high school, as she is his daughter’s best friend. Nothing inappropriate happens and it’s made clear that Finn does not view her that way at the time, but I know with this trope some readers prefer when characters don’t meet until they’re adults, so it’s worth noting.

This book was such a surprise. A lovely surprise.

Here’s the thing, I don’t usually read age gap romance books and initially I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it.

I was wrong. Not only did I enjoy it, I absolutely loved it.

Laura Hartwell does such an incredible job in this book. She handles the age gap so beautifully and with the kind of sensitivity that made Finn (the MMC) and Alexis (the FMC) likable from the get go. Instead of feeling uncomfortable because of their 20 year age gap, she made me feel like it was plausible. It felt real. Natural.

Alexis (Lexie) grew up without her parents’ love or approval. She had to raise herself and even at the age of ten she was left alone in a big house and had to put herself to bed. Her mother hated her “for ruining her body” and her father constantly made promises he didn’t keep. The more they rejected her, the more she believed she wasn’t good enough. Believed that no-one could ever want her.

Except for Marcee, her best friend, and Marcee’s dad, Finn. Even as a child, he was the person who showed her compassion and care when her parents failed to show up.

And then she grew up. Became a woman. And everything changed.

Suddenly Finn wasn’t just her best friend’s dad, he was a man. And she wasn’t just Marcee’s best friend, she was a woman.

The tension between them grew. Until finally they gave in. And boy oh boy… if you like your romance steamy, this book delivers on that front too.

The attraction between Finn and Lexie is combustible!

The emotions are real. The anguish they both feel over their feelings for each other is honest and raw and the fallout is heartbreaking.

Throw a stalker ex into the mix and this story pulls you along and doesn’t let you go until the very end.

This is why, if you like age gap romance that’s emotional as well as s3xy and ends HEA, this book is definitely for you.

5 Stars for His Good Girl from me, and can’t wait to see what comes next. Hopefully it will be Marcee’s story, because I really loved her too.

2 Stars: I would like to thank Book Funnel, Love Notes PR and Laura Hartwell for the e-arc of this book! Being honest about this review, I love my age gaps, but I just found out I don’t like the best friend’s father trope. I just thought it was kinda odd especially since Alexis’s dad wasn’t around all the time so the only father figure she had was Finn, her best friend Marcee’s dad who she gets with in the book. I mean the plot was good in the first half of the book but when 50%-60% of the book rolled around I wanted to DNF it. I think it was because Alexis was calling Finn “Daddy” every other sentence and they had spicy scenes every other chapter… also I didn’t really have a physically connection with Alexis and Finn there weren’t really any in depth scenes to connect with them so that was another reason why I couldn’t get past the second half of the book.

Finn: Finn confused me. I liked him in the beginning when he was very supportive to Alexis even though her parents weren’t around, but like it sounded like Finn was using her for her body,
“I'l get to see Lex during the weekend and bury my cock in her, hopefully repeatedly until I forget about fucking contracts, lawsuits, and ex-wives,” and then not… “Lex, of course I'm obsessed with your body, and still can't believe you let me touch and explore you, but it's so much more than just sex, baby. It always has been,” like he kinda confused me until the last chapter where I thought oh when this is great like he’s being super sweet and sentimental and then they had a spicy scene in the epilogue… like 😬.

Alexis: I loved her at the beginning, and then she embodied her nickname that she was bullied for her entire life “Sexy Lexie” and she kinda ran with it. I mean she was really trying to get rid of it and then she went on a date with one guy until she realized she had feelings for Finn and she changed, but I still think she could’ve done better than Finn. (That’s just my opinion though.)

His Good Girl follows Alexis and Finn.
Finn is Alexis's best friend Marcee's dad. Finn has always been nice to Alexis and Alexis has always had a bit of a crush on Finn. Once Alexis and Marcee leave for college Finn and his wife get a divorced and he gets a new job that requires him to travel more frequently. After not seeing Alexis for awhile he now sees the grown up side to her and he then becomes intruiged with her. The chemistry between the two of them is off the charts and after being around each other for awhile they cannot resist each other anymore. This book brings the spice and the vibes!!

Laura did a phenomenal job with this story! I am obsessed.

This was an ARC, so here is my honest review!

This was a great palate cleanser in between everything so dark that I've been reading. Its a messy, taboo, forbidden romance which are tropes that I live for. I appreciated the hidden touches, secret rendezvous, forbidden glances and everything that goes along with such a romance. It is an age gap, daughters best friend/best friends dad romance.

It wasn't easy for both characters as it was just really complicated and messy. However, I'm really glad they had a happy ending and everything worked out for the better.

Alexis is a funny, wild, promiscuous girl. She's been through a lot, and while she seems carefree, thats her default defense mechanism. She endures a lot from her parents or lack thereof. Her friendship with Marcee is fantastic, I appreciated their fierce loyalty and love for one another. They were truly girls' girls, looking out for eachother.

Finn is a good character too, hes humble and kind. He adores his daughter and is a good dad. I liked his protectiveness and his possessiveness at times too. I loved his little humour and inside quips and references throughout the book and with Lexie.

Despite everything flowing really really well, I just didn't see any chemistry between the MCs. Although they did get to know eachother and did enjoy eachothers company, it was hard to connect with them as a couple. I wasn't overly rooting for them and I wasn't willing them to fail either, I guess I was just neutral. It felt more like desire than unconditional love. But that is entirely my opinion and I understand that someone else may resonate or connect with these characters as a couple. It just fell really flat for me, and was as if the spice was the plot. The spice? Was really well written and the emotions, feelings and passion in the spicy scenes? Perfect. Unfortunately it didn't flow through to the rest of the book.

The ending also fell flat for me, it felt rushed.

Thank you so much for this opportunity to read your book, I truly had a blast! It was fun, quick and easy to read. The chapters were the perfect length which is always an issue for me, so greatly appreciated. If there's ever a book written for Marcee, I would love to see her happy ending 🖤

Just WOW. I didn't know what to expect with this story, but I sure as hell didn't think it'd love it as much as I did🥵. Now before all y’all holier than thou girlies start rioting- this book is intended to be taboo & WE👏🏽ARE👏🏽HERE👏🏽FOR👏🏽IT! Its LITERALLY in the title, so if that's not your jam, skip but know you missin' out on some spice🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️!

I have to start by saying kudos to Laura for writing this book in such a way that it doesn't feel "gross" with the Dad x best friend aspect POV. I love me an age gap but 20yrs can be quite shocking

but the way the author gave us a slow build up with background to Alexis's childhood neglect, not having relationship with her parents, (quite frankly having Daddy issues) & a mother who says she "ruined" her body & wants nothing to do with her-she's never known love.
How Finn is 1st introduced into her life & basically loves & treats her like his own daughter Marcee.
With the progression of time & growth of each characters lives as they get older, hitting certain life milestones where that nurturing type of love starts to bud & grow into more. Which ultimately makes the whole "idea" of a "Daddy" & young 20's girl being in a relationship more palatable.

ARC review

First and foremost I would like to thank Laura Hartwell and LoveNotes for the eARC, I'm so happy that I took part in the ARC process of your upcoming release.

The whole taboo aspect of this book was done beautifully, I don't think anyone would notice that it's the author's first ever book published. However, while the novel was so very steamy, I feel like Laura manly focused on their sexual chemistry, while their emotional connection lacked in some ways.

Alexis is the definition of a girl that has deep daddy/abandonment issues. Many of us can relate to what she's feeling, but in my honest opinion, our gal pal needed therapy so badly.

Reading her character made me feel seen in some ways. Society taught us to be ashamed of being labelled with having "daddy issues" and to ignore that we didn't choose to get abandoned or overlooked by our parents. We deserve to be loved by people that actually understand that having "daddy issues" isn't just an age gap kink, but a trauma that has to be understood, accepted and worked through even when things aren't exactly in the brightest colour of pink.

Finn did that for Alexis, he understood what she went through, he accepted her with all her flaws and helped her work through her self worth and abandonment issues.

His Good Girl was a fun little read that also showed the reality of what happens with children that go through abandonment through their early years. It can damage them so badly, they're still picking up the pieces years later, well into their adulthood.

All in all, it was a good read, and I recommend it to booktok junkies who love a good age gap, best friend's dad romance.

His Good Girl by Laura Hartwell
3.75 ⭐️ || 3 🌶🌶🌶

Thank you to Love Notes PR and the author for the ARC provided.

Tthis was a hard score to give because listen, I'm such a sucker for age gap romances, and this book had ALL the tropes I absolutely love but for some reason something didn't work for me.

Lex and Finn were amazing, their spicy scenes, oh my my, and I actually liked how the relationship developed during the book but, BUT...I didnt feel a connection with them.

For me, it was the fact of the time jumps we had at the beginning of the book. And these are my issues:
We know Lex and Marcee have been friends for a few years now.
We also know that Lex doesn't have a great relationship with her parents (Daddy issues hello?).
But for some reason, after the whole divorce drama, graduation, moving for college, I felt like big chunks of information about Lex and Finn were missing. I didn't really feel like I knew them if that makes sense, their personalities and new beginnings (after divorce and graduation) basically happens behind the scenes.

Marcee was my favourite character in the book, and I absolutely understood her reaction when she found out the whole thing between HER DAD and HER BEST FRIEND. I was happy to see that everything was good at the end between them.

Another thing, the last chapter of the book felt a bit rushed, I would loved to read a bit more of Lex getting better after being released from hospital, and how she dealt with what happened with her, because it was something HUGE, but then we suddenly jumped to the epilogue.

The idea, tropes and spice were absolutely amazing, but the execution was a bit lost at times.

I still liked it, it was a nice and easy reading, and I can't wait to read more from Laura. 📚💕

I recieved an Advanced Reader’s Copy of ‘His Good Girl’ by Laura Hartwell, through LoveNotes PR. All thoughts are my own without bias.

4.5 /5 ⭐

I say this with all of my chest, I devoured the fuck out of this book. This is a get-you-out-of-a-slump, excited-to-wake-up-so-you-can-read-more, why-do-i-have-to-sleep-when-i-could-just-keep-reading kinda book.
Protective & doting MMC, solid friendships that can weather the storm, LOUD FMC, laugh-out-loud moments and oh-my-god-what-the-FUCK moments. This book has it ALL.

Things I loved:
✨Short chapters (except the spicy ones!)
✨Alexis and Marcee seemed like genuinely believable early-mid twenties women, without making them over-the-top dramatic or obnoxious
✨Finn is so caring & protective of both Alexis and his daughter Marcee
✨The SPICE, yes ma’am! Or should I say yes Daddy 🫡
✨There was a good amount of plot & side characters, just enough so it wasn’t difficult to keep up with, and it brought more depth to the story than just the romance.

Things I hated:
💨Jax. Fuck that guy.

Things to consider:
Some of these things are controversial and/or can make or break a romance novel for some readers.

❓Trigger warning (and spoiler warning), this book does include a physically abusive ex-boyfriend (who only becomes physically abusive after their break-up), and there is a scene where our FMC is on the receiving end of his violence.
❓On a lighter note, we never got to see Marcee properly apologise to Alexis after treating her the same as all the worst people in her life did. Sexy Lexie deserved better!!
❓Third Act Break Up 😫

Absolutely recommend the heckkkk outta this book.

Alexis was never wanted by either of her parents. Her dad always gone for work and her mother blaming her for everything wrong with her body and claiming to have never wanted her in the first place. So of course with that comes one serious abandonment issues. Luckily for her she finds a best friend, Marcee, whose parents welcome her with open arms to their home. Lexie spends majority of her time there and is one of the family. She envies the marriage of Marcee’s parents, until one night they’re screaming at each other which signals the end of their once idealistic marriage.
Fast forward and the girls have graduated high school and are living on their own together. Marcee still visits her parents but Alexis hasn’t in years. Alexis is a party girl and has MANY hookups, but she promises to never give a man her heart. One summer day, Marcee convinces Alexis to come check out her dad’s new place and stay a few days. They’re lounging by the pool and in walks Finn, Marcee’s dad. Finn notices Alexis isn’t the little girl he’s known for years anymore but a grown woman. Alexis notices the absolute glow up Finn had after the divorce. They don’t get physical, but their relationship changes during this surprise visit 😏

This book was HOT 🥵 . I can’t believe it’s the authors debut book 🤯 I loved every aspect of this book. Finn is added to my list of book boyfriends for sure! His warmth towards Alexis was so sweet, always making her feel secure and seen. She was able to heal some of her abandonment issues with his love and reassurance. I recommend this book especially if you like age gap, forbidden romance and/or a daddy kink.

I went into His Good Girl knowing it would be a little messy and a little forbidden, but I didn’t expect it to hit as emotionally as it did.

Alexis honestly broke my heart a little. The way she’s grown up feeling unwanted and unloved, and then hides behind this bold, “I don’t care” persona… you can tell it’s all just a shield. So when you see her with Marcee’s family, especially Finn, it feels different. Softer. Like that’s the only place she’s ever really been seen.

And that’s what makes everything so complicated.

Finn isn’t just some random older guy. He’s been part of her safe space for years, even if things were always appropriate before. So when their dynamic shifts later, it’s not just about attraction. It’s about crossing a line that actually means something. That tension is there the entire time, and you feel it.

Their relationship is definitely intense and not always easy to process. There were moments where I was like “this is a bad idea” but at the same time, I could see why they kept going back to each other. It’s not just physical. There’s this underlying need for comfort, validation, and being chosen.

I will say, this is a very trope-heavy read. Age gap, best friend’s dad, daddy kink… it fully leans into that. So you kind of have to go in knowing what you’re signing up for. If that’s not your thing, this probably won’t work for you.

But beyond all that, what stayed with me was Alexis’ journey. Watching her slowly realize her worth and unlearn everything her parents made her believe about herself… that part felt real.

Overall, it’s messy, emotional, a little dramatic, but also weirdly heartfelt underneath all the chaos.

Finn and Alexis…. her best friend’s dad, abandonment issues, daddy issues, bullying… This story covers quite a lot.

It appears to be a debut novel by the author, and it is quite a good read. It’s a little predictable in some ways, yet others, while not shocking, will definitely raise your eyebrows.

Alexis (Lexie) has some serious issues. Unwanted/ignored by her parents, Finn has kind of been the only father she knows, yet he’s still a little bit apart from her life. They last see each other at her high school graduation, where he’s super sweet to her.

Then… the story begins, and Alexis lives a life of toxic behaviours. She lives a lifestyle that’s pretty out there despite her strong academic record and it sets the tone for the way the story is going to go. I mean, self-pleasure on their couch!!???

Finn and Alexis were an interesting combination, and oh my lord, the moments where she was vulnerable really hit. And the way he acted at those times… I was not a fan of him.

It was spicy. Extremely spicy. She’s not averse to public acts and is very open about her sexual history. He’s possessive, conflicted, and so dominant. I did enjoy them together. Overall, they were a mix of sweet, vulnerable, hot and toxic at times.
The reaction of his daughter/her best friend was extremely predictable, and made me rage a little. Even though I did expect it, it did seem a little out of character with the way it unfolded. But… possibly fairly realistic too, considering the way she found out!!

It wrapped up fairly well. I’m glad that not everyone got the ‘happy ending’, but at least the MMC/MFC did… and in humorous fashion.

"I'm so damn head over heels in love with you that it physically hurts. When we're apart, all I want is to be in your presence again. When you walk into a room, it gets impossibly brighter and I feel like I can finally breathe. You are everything to me, and I want to spend every second I can with you."

Try and tell me the above quote doesn't make you swoon!

This spicy little number gives a hot and heavy romance without ditching the emotion behind the story.

I've always loved a good age gap romance and this didn't let me down. I enjoyed every moment.

Alexis has always wanted to love and be loved. To belong. Her best friend Marcee has been that person for her for a long time. Somewhere along the way sparks start flying between Alexis and Finn, Marcee's dad.

As you can imagine, their road to love has been anything but smooth, so expect some angst and yearning and all the good stuff!

I really like the author's writing style and would gladly read whatever she is working on next!

Traditional cars aren't actually allowed in Zermatt. But I'm going to pretend it's a parallel universe where this is possible. And perhaps a little creative license. I love that this location was included, it's one of my favourite places in the world.

You should read this book if you love:
- Open door romance (plenty of spice)
- Age gap
- Best friend's dad
- Secret relationship
- Found family
- Dual POV

His Good Girl is available now, including on KU.

Thank you to Laura Hartwell and Love Notes PR for the complimentary copy of this book. The views and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

🖤 Best Friend’s Dad

Release Date: March 24, 2026

This book is messy, emotional, and full of tension—in the best way. If you love complicated relationships and morally gray romance dynamics, this one delivers.

The story follows Alexis and Finn in a dual POV, which really lets you feel both sides of the emotional push and pull. Alexis is a strong but guarded character, shaped by a childhood full of rejection and instability. Her loyalty to her best friend Marcee—and her complicated feelings toward Marcee’s dad, Finn—add so much depth to her character.

Finn, on the other hand, is navigating a failing marriage, eventual divorce, and the responsibility of being a father while dealing with emotions he knows he shouldn’t have. Watching him try to balance boundaries, guilt, and growing feelings was honestly one of the most compelling parts of the book.

The timeline progression—from high school to adulthood—adds a slow-burn element that makes their eventual relationship feel intense and earned, even if it’s morally complicated. There’s a constant tension between what they want and what they shouldn’t do, and that’s what drives the story.

⚠️ This is definitely not for everyone. If the “best friend’s dad” trope or the history between the characters makes you uncomfortable, you may want to skip this one.

But if you’re looking for a quick, spicy, emotional read with lots of angst and complicated feelings, I’d recommend giving it a try.

Thank you Laura Hartwell and Love Notes PR for this ARC 🥹

Who doesn’t love a best friend’s dad trope? 🫠🫠🫠 I devoured this book in 48 hours 🤌🏻🙌🏻

Alexis Wakefield, didn’t grow up in a loving home environment, her mother has been absent throughout her entire life and didn’t want anything to do with her and her dad is always working— making promises he won’t keep. She grew up on her own and her life was a rollercoaster but the only person who stayed by her side was her best friend, Marcee.

Until a few years later she’s all grown up and the one man who she wasn’t expecting to fall head over heels for becomes the person she didn’t expect to be with… the problem was.. it’s her best friend’s Dad 😭🤭

I love Lexie and Finn’s relationship, it wasn’t rushed and age don’t matter obviously it’s the connection and trust they built and Lexie was afraid she’ll never find someone to love her because she didn’t get that love and affection from anyone not even her parents; maybe her dad but he kinda was semi-absent 😅

Although Finn didn’t look at her in a daughter kinda way, he too wasn’t expecting he’d fall for her. After hearing what she’s been through and her family, he wanted to look after her but his feelings got in the way that he never saw coming.

The amount of spicy scenes in this book had me kicking and squealing. My eyes were literally bulging out of my sockets reading them. That nightclub changed everything!! Sneaking around, text messages, visiting his office… that car ride home 🥵🥵🥵 wow I’m saaat!!

I really hope Marcee gets a book, she deserves a HEA 🥰

This is a age gap, best friend's father, taboo, and contemporary romance with a daddy kink. Clearly Finn is old enough to be Alexis' father. However, Finn didn't develop feelings for Alexis until she was over the age of 18. Just for the taboo aspect of this book aline it may not be everyone's cup of tea. Daddy is also used a lot.

Alexis has always harbored a secret schoolgirl crush on Finn. As Alexis gets older she wants Finn more. More happens one night. Alexis doesn't feel she deserves more than to be recognized as "Sexy Lexie". Alexis' best friend, Marcee, had no idea how she feels about Finn. Alexis went from a party girl to settling down.

As adults, Finn sees more in Alexis. They both know Marcee wouldn't approve of a relationship between Finn and Alexis. When they finally put their hands on each other? Wow, Alexis and Finn are both dirtier than expected! One taste will never be enough! Every man so far only saw the sexual side of Alexis in a negative connotation. That's where the name Sexy Lexie came from. Can anyone say daddy issues? I didn't mind that though.

Chapter 8 was a little confusing to me. It was hard to differentiate between who was talking Marcee or Alexis. There was a particular scene in which I got really irritated with Finn. If you read this book that will be easy to figure out.

Finn - “It’s not fair that you got a taste earlier and not me, now Daddy’s hungry.”
Alexis - “Then eat up. Let me feel what that mouth can do.”
