It was supposed to be a simple get the dragus pup to his new owner, collect the credits, and go home. Instead, Commander Chaos and I end up crammed in an escape pod hurtling through space.
We land in the middle of a bog and start sinking… immediately. And to make things worse, giant pterodactyl creatures descend from the sky looking for a snack. FML.
I’m about to give up hope when an alien mercenary charges in, weapons blazing, to rescue us from certain doom. Ranek is dangerous, intimidating, and his devilish grin turns my knees to jelly. He’s also my only chance at surviving this alien planet.
Can I trust this stranger who looks at me like I’m his favorite dessert? Or will escaping with him mean trading one danger for another and risking my heart along the way? This sweet & steamy sci-fi romance featuring a growly, morally-gray hero can be read as a standalone. HEA guaranteed!
Lynnea Lee is a recovered serial monogamist who now lives in her forever home with the man of her dreams. Still hopelessly addicted to the feeling of falling in love she now feeds her habit with a routine prescription of romance novels and rampant imagination. When she is not dreaming up fantastical stories of love, lust and romance, her hobbies includes talking to her plants, putting on a full face of makeup to stay home on Saturday nights and hugging her dog longer than is appreciated.
When a mission to deliver an adoptive pet she trained goes awry, human Maya finds herself and the dragus“pup” rescued by a handsome Tallean male. While the vibes between them are incendiary, he lets her know in no uncertain terms that he’s down for a good time, but he’s already found and lost his fated mate, so nothing permanent can come of it.
Confused by his strong feelings for Maya, Ranek decides he’ll handle whatever consequences may arise later. Of course circumstances unfold in a way that force a reckoning and his protective instincts toward Maya and the impish dragus. Just as he feels certain things between he and Maya will work out, another attack and a misunderstanding upend everything.
This was steamy and cute, and dragus Commander Chaos earned his name. I received an advance reader copy from the author and BookSprout, and I’m sharing my honest review.
Stranded. Hunted. Claimed by the alien who saves her.
It’s supposed to be a routine delivery. Instead, Maya crash lands in a swamp on a dead mining planet with a dragus pup in her arms and predators circling overhead. Her only lifeline is Ranek, a scarred, morally gray Tallean warrior with blood on his hands and hunger in his eyes. He rescues her without hesitation, but the way he looks at her makes it clear she hasn’t escaped danger, only changed its shape.
Fortuna II forces them into close quarters and impossible choices. Pirates close in. Old trauma resurfaces. Ranek believes he’s cursed and unworthy of lasting love. Maya sees the damage he carries and steps closer anyway, stubborn and emotionally brave enough to risk her heart. What begins as survival ignites into something hotter, riskier, and far more intimate than either of them expects.
When the past resurfaces and trust is tested, they’re forced to confront what they truly mean to each other. Maya stops guarding her heart and starts choosing what she wants instead of what feels safe. Ranek shifts from self condemned exile to fiercely protective partner, willing to claim hope even if it terrifies him. Their connection evolves from wary alliance and raw attraction into deliberate devotion and mutual claiming, built on choice rather than fate alone.
This is an ultra steamy alien adventure romance about a resilient woman and a wounded warrior choosing each other in the middle of chaos. It’s about fate colliding with choice, healing through intimacy, loyalty under fire, and building a future when everything in your past says you don’t deserve one. If you love high heat, emotionally intense sci fi romance with a protective hero who falls hard and a heroine who refuses to be half loved, this one delivers.
The Elevator Pitch: When a human courier crash lands on a lawless mining planet, her only chance of survival is a scarred alien warrior who looks at her like fate has finally answered a curse he never escaped. Hunted by pirates and haunted by broken bonds, they’re forced into a dangerous alliance that blurs the line between instinct and choice. As past and memory threaten to tear them apart, they must decide whether love is another trap or the one thing strong enough to set them free.
Maya is having a rough day, but Ranek is just getting back on his feet after a rough decade. To be fair, Maya's rough day (which is longer than a day, but she was knocked out for part of that time thanks to emergency procedures in the escape pod) ends with her sinking in a smelly bog. While trying to hold onto the dragus pup she's in charge of. While pterodactyl-like creatures hone in on their location. I'm going to say that Maya wins this round of the bad time game.
BUT...Ranek appears at the right moment to save her and Commander Chaos from certain death. He's hunky and has a place for them to ride out the dangerous creatures that come out at night and (to be blunt) Maya doesn't have a lot of options. So she goes with him. And the more time she spends with him, the more she likes what she sees. He's kind, Commander Chaos seems to like him, and he's a whole lot of Tallean male.
As for Ranek, he has some protective feelings about Maya, but he doesn't think he can ever have a mate bond again since, you know, he's already had one. Sure, it was a mess of a bond, but it was still a bond. But there's a whole lot he likes about Maya and those protective instincts are going into overdrive around her.
An abandoned mining station, a steamy encounter in the baths, some really nasty pirates, a male who doesn't dare dream he might have a bond, and a lady who likes the big Tallean even without the bond. *thumbs up*
Maya is on an escape pod with Commander Chaos, a dragus pup. She makes it to a planet that is not where the pod was suppose to take her. Ranek is on the planet to find merchandise he can sell to either sell the ship he has or buy another one. He sees Maya's pod land and also the huge birds. He saves her and takes her to the building he stays in. They share info and Ranek realizes two things...someone sent her here and two she's his mate. But that can't be. He already had one and she died years ago. The pup takes them on a chase through the tunnels. When they return they rest only to be taken captive by pirates who want the pup and the bounty on him. Maya learns what he is and did. She tells him she isn't his mate. The only problem is he has lost his memory. Now she may be on her own to safe the two of them plus the pup. Will he get his memory back in time? Or will she slip away to get away from him? A fantastic story that has the reader holding their breathe.
It was a good story. You have Ranek who is down on his luck, and Maya who just wants to find a Tallean to love and love her.
There is some adventure with some pirates and lots of spice.
I do like the fact that you do not have to read any of the other books in the series to be able to follow the story. There is enough explanation for you to understand about the Tallean/Human culture.
I personally am not a fan of the Tallean's views on sex and nudity. They openly have sex in public and show nudity (at least that is how I interpret it). I am more into not sharing and wanting them all to yourself in books. That is a personal preference though.
I did enjoy the story overall and do enjoy a happy ending.
I recommend if you are looking for a light quick read.
If you love your sci-fi romance with mud, monsters, morally gray warriors, and heat that fogs up the escape pod, A Hope for Ranek by Lynnea Lee is going to be your next obsession.
What starts as a routine delivery—a dragus pup named Commander Chaos to his new owner—goes spectacularly wrong. Pirates attack. Maya and the puppy are shoved into an escape pod. They crash-land in a swamp on an abandoned mining planet. The pod starts sinking. Giant pterodactyl-like creatures circle overhead.
You can practically hear Maya thinking: FML.
And just when hope runs out? Enter Ranek.
Scarred. Dangerous. Recently escaped from the Dominion and determined never to be enslaved again. A Tallean mercenary with blood on his hands and hunger in his eyes. He charges in, weapons blazing, and rescues Maya and Commander Chaos without hesitation.
But the way he looks at her?
That’s not just survival instinct.
This story thrives on forced proximity and escalating stakes. An abandoned building becomes temporary shelter. A lost pup in the mines turns into a monster-infested rescue mission. Pirates close in. Bounties are placed. Suddenly, it’s not just about getting off Fortuna II alive—it’s about who they’re willing to risk everything for.
Ranek is the kind of morally gray hero who believes he’s cursed, unworthy, irredeemable. He’s trying to build a new life as a merchant, but the scars of his past still dictate his choices. Watching him shift from self-condemned exile to fiercely protective partner is deeply satisfying. His devotion isn’t instant fate—it’s deliberate. Chosen. Earned.
And Maya? She is emotionally brave in a way that hit me hard. She sees the damage in him and steps closer anyway. She refuses to be half-loved. She chooses what she wants instead of what feels safe. In the middle of chaos, sinking pods, and pirate fire, she decides she’s worthy of more—and that kind of resilience is powerful.
The chemistry is ultra-steamy, but it never overshadows the emotional core. This is a story about loyalty under fire. About fate colliding with choice. About healing through intimacy and daring to build a future when your past says you don’t deserve one.
If you love:
Stranded-on-an-alien-planet survival
Growly, scarred warriors who fall hard
Protective heroes with morally gray edges
High heat with emotional depth
Found partnership forged in danger
Then buckle up.
Because sometimes you don’t escape danger.
You just change its shape—and find hope in the alien who decides you’re his future.
The story begins when Maya, a human, finds herself in an emergency escape pod after the ship she was on got attacked. She ends up crash landing on the planet Fortuna II, which is literally off the beaten path, so to speak. She is accompanied by a small young Dragus (lizard like) pup she named “Commander Chaos”. With a name like that, you know it’s going to be an interesting adventure.
Ranek, a Tallean, is scavenging for useful and resellable items on this former Dominion mining hub. He can’t help noticing the pod landing into the swampy bog. Maya and he meet when he “rescues” her and her dragus pup, from the sinking pod. Some predatory flying animals, looking suspiciously like pterodactyls, are also attracted to the crash. These flying creatures are fought by Ranek so that he and Maya can escape to a nearby abandoned building.
The adventure starts when Chaos, the dragus pup, goes “exploring”. Maya and Ranek are forced to search every possible place; of course the small pup squeezed through a small hole out of the building and into a nearby cave/mine. I won’t go into the rest of the story, but Maya and Ranek spend a lot of time trying to find Chaos in the mine tunnels. Ranek and Maya are great for each other. Ranek has been alone for a while and finds himself attracted to Maya. Maya has a similar attraction towards Ranek. Their escape from the planet requires teamwork, trust and ingenuity.
I enjoyed their sizzling attraction and concern towards each other. I’ve read all of the Tallean Mercenaries series. You could read this by itself, the story is just that engaging. But to truly get some of the background and named references, it would help reading some of the prior books, at the very least, if not the series. Lynnea Lee is a proven author to me. Her books always have couples with spicy chemistry, engaging story lines and of course, a Happily Ever After. This book is an Open door romance book, so there are descriptive encounters that are definitely steamy. If you are looking for a sure thing, get this book, you won’t be disappointed. I highly recommend A Hope for Ranek.
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Author: @lynnea.lee.writes POV: Multi 3rd Person Gene: Sci-Fi Alien Romance Triggers: Open Door & Violence Read Time: 4-5 hours Expected Publishing Date: 2/12/2026
❤️ World Building: While this is a short story and there weren't a lot of pages to go into world building because of that, I didn’t think that the world building was lacking. You still got the feel for the planet they were one, as well as the feel for each location they went to on said planet.
❤️ The Characters: Ranek and Maya were such great characters! They both had a past that was interwoven into the story, so we got more of a feel of who they are and why they are the way they are. The side characters in this book also had moments of standing out. I'm thinking that some of these side characters are actually the subject of one of the first 11 books in this standalone series, so I’m excited to go back and read about them!
❤️ The Story: The story was adorable, but still had some amazing twists and turns, as well as some anxious moments that left me inthralled.
❤️🔥Overall: I really enjoyed this book and I’m going to have to read the rest of this series now!
🐕Hyena Fact Inspired by Commander Chaos: Hyenas, surprisingly, are some of the best mothers in the animal kingdom, investing more energy per cub than any other terrestrial carnivore. Hyenas give birth to 1 to 3 tiny jet-black cubs. Genetically, hyenas are closely related to civets, genets, and mongooses, therefore falling within the cat group of carnivores, hence the use of the term “cub”. Hyena cubs are “precocial”, meaning they are born in a more advanced stage of development with their eyes open, teeth intact, and muscles ready to go, unlike many of the cat species where cubs are born largely blind and helpless for several weeks. I was gifted this book free for my honest opinion, you know the drill 😉
Tropes: alien x human • cursed mmc • fated mates • touch her and 💀 • murder puppy
“There was a line of trees in the distance. Or at least, she hoped they were trees. Trees needed solid ground, right? These better not be the type that could survive being submerged. If she got to them and found out that they were indeed just the tops of giant underwater trees, she was going to burn them down with nothing but her rage alone.”
This might be the most expensive ARC I've ever gotten - it's book 12 in the series, and I thought, hey, let's have a look at book one before reading the ARC... And then I may have bought book number two... and three... four... five... You get the drift, right?
This is a fantastic series, with action and a slightly different pairing and story in each book, making each book unique while staying absolutely true to the series structure and backstory. And bonus? When Lynnea Lee says it's standalone, she means it! She takes the time in every single book to explain the unknown entities and dynamics in the Tallean Mercenaries world without it becoming cumbersome to read.
Now, back to the book of the hour: A Hope for Ranek. I was very excited for this book, a tortured and cursed mmc; I'm here for it! And the book delivered ❤️
Maya and Ranek are put through the wringer in this book, fighting pirates and the wilds left and right, while also finding their way through their complicated emotional entanglement. I ate the book up! nom nom
And Commander Chaos, the murder puppy, earning his name through the entire book 🤣
This book is for you if you want some alien bloody fighting and steamy encounters, but also want to feel their pain.
Maya and her business partner, Faith, are on their way to New Rhea to deliver a dragus puppy, Commander Chaos, to his new owner. When their ship is attacked by pirates, Maya and Chaos are shoved into an escape pod and launched into space. They land on a strange planet in the middle of a swamp. With the pod sinking into the mud, they must abandon it and make it to the closest land. When they finally reach shore they are attacked by huge birds. With nothing to defend herself with, Maya knows this is the end!
Ranek is a Tallean male that recently escaped from the Dominion. He vows he will never be a slave again and is trying to start his own business as a merchant. He is on Fortana II scrounging for any items left by the Dominion when they abandoned the mining planet years before. He is hoping to find enough to fund his new business. He is just about ready to leave when he sees a pod flying above him and land in the swamp. He hurries to see is there is anything he can salvage. When he comes upon Maya being attacked by the birds, he chases them off and rescues her and Chaos. By that time they must seek shelter in an abandoned building and wait out the night until it is safe to fly again. Seems simple enough! Of course things don’t work out that way at all. Chaos becomes lost in the mines so Ranek and Maya must go and fight the creatures in the mine to rescue him. Things go quickly downhill from there! Space pirates, bounty’s on all three of their heads and no way off the planet.
Don’t miss the next book in the Tallean Mercenaries series! Drama, pirates, monsters and more!
While this book can be read as a stand-alone you can better understand the situation if you know about is cameo in a previous book. Ranek lost his mate and as most paranormal readers know, this causes them to go insane. Ranek was pretty much the insane villain who attacked his brother…don't want to ruin that book for anyone. It ended with Ranek banished for safekeeping, never to see the light of day, or so we thought.
Maya has become a dragus puppy trainer and is doing a simple delivery of a pup from the first domesticated litter. Of course, simple always has a glitch and she ends up being ejected in an escape pod with Commander Chaos (dragus pup). Which turns into an adventure in itself as Maya knows how to use an escape pod, yet it is unresponsive to all her commands.
Maya and Chaos get redirected to a different planet where they crash land. Ranek sees the pod streaking across the sky of the abandoned planet he's scavenging on. The story starts to unfold with all kinds of twists and turn which often are unexpected.
Once again, Lynnea Lee has created a whole world that is not a repeat of previous ones. With the added bonus of new and interesting features I'm sure we'll see more of in later stories. I highly recommend the whole series; however, this is my new fav and definitely should be on your TBR list!
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is my first time reading this novel from this series, and I enjoyed it very much! Although it's on the shorter side, the story delivers a satisfying balance of action, adventure, steaminess, and humor throughout.
It was also quite interesting to learn about the history of the Dominion, Fortuna II, and the characters' overall backgrounds. The way it was effortlessly tied to both the current and previous characters made everything feel more interconnected. The worldbuilding, particularly the anatomy and the culture of the Talleans, reminded me of the Kadrixans, especially when they're high on adrenaline and heat.
As for the characters, Maya was resilient, intelligent, and assertive. Meanwhile, Ranek was protective, diligent, and self-aware. The emotional depth of their relationship stood out, both in how they were torn between choice and fate and the willingness to confront their personal vulnerabilities, making their connection more meaningful. Finally, the spicy scenes were sweet and steamy.
I WOULD RECOMMEND IF 📒
If you're looking for a spicy and stand-alone alien romance novel featuring themes such as "morally grey MMC," "forced proximity/stranded," "fated mates," "amnesia," "touch her and d!e," "cute animal sidekick," and "HEA," then this is the book for you.
4.25⭐ Maya, Ranek, and Commander Chaos certainly have found themselves in quite the pickle. First Maya is delivering Commander Chaos to his new owners when her crew is attacked and she's shoved into a pod and sent off into space. Then her pod crashes Stars knows where and she has to act quickly before her and her Dragus pup find themselves permanent residents at the bottom of the bog. While running for their lives from some strange creatures after crash landing, they are saved by Ranek. Initially he's just trying to be friendly and get this human out of danger, but the moment he touches her hand everything in him screams that he has to keep her; mate, mine. Ranek knows better, he's already met his mate and it's not Maya. But every shared moment, stolen touch, and burst of laughter makes this male question everything he thought he knew. That is until he gets hit on the head hard enough that he can't remember anything at all. Even through the fog he knows one thing for certain, he must protect Maya at all costs. He may not know his name or where they are but he knows with his whole being that she is his and he'll do whatever he needs to protect her.
"Run all you want, Maya. But you're mine. And I'll always catch you." "Promise?" "Promise."
As if training a dragus pup isn’t difficult enough, the spaceship Maya is on to deliver Commander Chaos to his new owner, is attacked by space pirates. Maya and the pup are shoved in an escape pod, unfortunately not going to the destination it should go. Instead Maya lands on an old mining planet, even worse, the landing spot lets her pod sink. Fortunately Ranek was near and he immediately takes action to save Maya and the pup. Both Ranek and Maya feel instant attraction, which confused Ranek. He already found -and lost- his mate years ago. Not only do they have to figure out this attraction, they have to deal with a lot of dangerous situations. All kind of dangerous animals and creatures, Commander Chaos causing issues and not to mention pirates on the planet that are causing some serious problems. I really enjoyed reading this new book in the Tallean Mercenaries series. As always it is entertaining and original, well written, humorous and spicy with lots of adventure and great characters. This book can be read as a stand alone, but I recommend reading the entire series. (I am already rereading the series after finishing this book, LOL!!) I received an ARC copy from the author and I am happy to give my honest opinion of this book. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
A Hope for Ranek is the twelfth Tallean Mercenaries book and quite the adventure that begins for MFC Maya as she is on her way to New Rhea with a dragus pup named Commander Chaos who is definitely true to his name. Shoved into an emergency escape pod with the pup when pirates attack their ship, Maya soon discovers her pod is malfunctioning. It finally crashes on what she later learns is Fortuna II after being rescued by Tallean mercenary MMC Ranek who is on the abandoned mining planet scavenging. Loved this newest story which was sweet, sexy, humorous, and goes from zero to sixty when the chemistry between the two becomes palpable, even I could feel it! The writing was captivating with characters who were perfectly crafted, and I was immersed in their journey from the very start. That little voice in Ranek’s head keeps saying mate but he isn’t quite believing it because he had a mate once…sure n begorra, things are going to get interesting. Great story with some intrigue working it’s way in, action, danger, and oodles of entertainment! HEA
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A thrilling, steamy, and heartwarming addition to the series!
When a simple delivery goes wrong, Maya finds herself stranded in a bog on a hostile alien planet and is rescued by Ranek. Ranek is dangerous, intimidating, and skilled, but his instant attraction and fierce protectiveness over Maya are what make him truly swoonworthy.
The chemistry between Ranek and Maya is electric and immediate. Maya is relatable with her concerns of falling for a Tallean without the certainty of the mate bond. I enjoyed watching their relationship grow from cautious friends to lovers to something more.
The plot is fast-paced and well-balanced between thrilling action scenes and slower emotional moments. There is enough world-building to keep new readers interested without getting bogged down in backstory, though you’ll likely find yourself wanting to go back and read the first eleven books immediately to get the full experience.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I love the Tallean Mercenaries! Ranek has clawed his way back from insanity to find his brother and get his life back in order. While on a scavenging mission her comes across an emergency pod and inside is a beautiful female and a dragus named Capitan chaos! Maya is he!ping to train and Domesticate the dragus of Reka 5. Maya and her best friend Faith were on their way to bring Capitan Chaos to his new owner when the ship they were on was raided by pirates. She escaped one life pod and ended up on a mining planet in a swamp. She is rescued by the smexiest Tallean warrior she's ever seen. She's can't believe how Ranek protects her and little Capitan Chaos. Someone wants her and the dragus but Ranek will never let anyone hurt her. As they find pirates and protect the Dragus from his own curiosity their relationship grows and the mate bond snaps into place and love blossoms! Love acceptance and finding the family you always wanted ! Great story and I hope this series never ends!🔥🌟💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟🔥🌟💖💖🌟🔥🌟🔥💖🔥🌟💖
I need some Chaos in my life - Commander Chaos to be exact 🥰
Adventure, angst over fated mates, and caring for a dragus pup abound in this exciting and steamy addiction to the Tallean Mercenaries Series. Maya, a human who escaped human trafficking pirates, has started a new life while helping to raise dragus pups. When she and Commander Chaos are separated from the others tasked with delivering the pups to their new owners, she lands on Fortuna II and luckily saved by Ranek. But Ranek needs his own type of salvation and forgiveness, and witnessing the unfolding of their relationship is deeply meaningful even as danger keeps finding them. While this can be a stand alone book, I found I was immersed in a richer storyline by having read the other books first. Plus I loved the chance to catch up with other previous characters 💞. This has been one fine series!! I am voluntarily reviewing a free ARC copy of this book.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🌶️🌶️ Okay, so as a pet sitter and basic obedience dog trainer, I might be a little biased toward this story… 🤭 But even setting that aside, this was genuinely a great shorter read (just over 3 hours for me). This was my first book in the series, so I went in with totally fresh eyes, and I was never lost. Even though it’s several books in, it works really well as a standalone. The worldbuilding is already nicely established, and the character development is solid for a shorter story. Romance-wise, I’d call this just over a medium burn, with fated mates in the mix 👀. There’s a lot happening: crash-landing on a mining planet, exploring dangerous mines, running around planetside while avoiding pirates, and somehow it all circles back beautifully to where it began. Overall, this was a fun, well-paced adventure with a super sweet story arc. If you’re looking for a shorter sci-fi romance that still delivers on heart, action, and connection, this one is absolutely worth picking up. 💫🐾
This is my first book I have read under this pen name of the author. One of the few Sci-fi romances I have read to date. You meet Ranek who saves Maya from pterodactyl type creatures where her escape pod has landed. Maya was delivering a dragus that she had trained named Captain Chaos. Ranek who thought he had lost out on his forever mate is now feeling the mating bond when he met Maya. Being human, Maya has heard of the mating bond. Ranek is protective of Maya and is working h hard to protect her from the pirates who are out to find her. As they are placed in a cell, they work together to get their way out and to find safety. While waiting for her friends to rescue them, they work together pirates go after Ranek as he attempts to hold them off for her. With serious injuries, he is taken to where he can be placed on a healing bed. That is where Ranek calls out for his ex and Maya decides to leave heartbroken. Loved the ending of the story and how Ranek and Maya get back together!
What was meant to be a simple delivery job turns into alien chaos when Maya crash-lands in a deadly swamp with her dragus pup, Commander Chaos. Surrounded by monstrous creatures and sinking mud, she’s rescued by Ranek, a morally gray Tallean who makes her pulse race as much as he makes her feel safe.
Stranded together on a hostile planet, hunted by pirates, and battling impossible odds, Maya and Ranek are forced to rely on each other. When Ranek loses his memory, the story becomes even more compelling because even in his amnesia fog, he knows he must protect her.
My View: This is my first time reading any of Lynnea Lee’s books and even though A Hope for Ranek is relatively short, it was enough to grab my attention and make me want to read the entire series. Fast-paced, steamy, and action-packed, this is a stranded on an alien planet romance with heart, humour, and high stakes. I loved Maya’s grit, Ranek’s growly devotion, and the mix of danger and tenderness. Can be read as a standalone with a satisfying HEA.
Deliver a Dragus pup to its new owner, what could go wrong? Maya thought this would be an easy delivery, but fate had other plans. When her escape pod lands in a swamp, she’s not sure what to do next until a handsome Tallean comes to her rescue. Ranek saves Maya and Commander Chaos bringing them back to the mining station where he had been loading equipment when he saw the pod come down. It was instant attraction but things weren’t that easy. When pirates show up and take them, things definitely get worse. Ranek hits his head and gets amnesia, but not remembering his past, or present, isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It allows him to recognize Maya as his mate without his memories telling him she can’t be.
Follow the adventure as Maya, Ranek and Commander Chaos free themselves. This is a great book! I loved the storyline and character building. This is book 12 of 12, but I’m hoping the author adds more to this series!
There was a moment on deja vu as the story started with a woman being shoved in a escape pod that is not working like it should. She is not alone, but with a pet named commander chaos, what can go wrong?
The moment Maya and Ranek meet shows they definitely do not mind each other. From living on Reka 5, Maya is familiar with Talleans and is more than interested in testing for capability with Ranek.
I liked getting to have connection with Ckzarr's time on Fortuna II and Vasek in the previous story.
I thought the story was a great addition to the series. It kept me guessing and wondering how things were going to work out between them. It was wonderful getting to see a new pet.
I loved how they were able to work together even though they hardly knew each other and gave them time to grow together.
I received an advanced copy of this story for free and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
This alien romance tells a really nice story with engaging characters and a charming atmosphere. One of the highlights of the book is the absolutely adorable companion character, who adds warmth and personality to the story and makes several moments especially enjoyable. The characters themselves are well developed, and the world-building feels solid and thoughtfully created. It’s easy to get immersed in the setting and the relationships between the characters. My only real issue with the book was the pacing. At times the story seemed to slow down or speed up quite suddenly, which occasionally felt a bit confusing. The shifts in rhythm made the flow of the story feel a little uneven. That said, aside from the pacing, the book works very well. With strong characters, a nicely built world, and a heartwarming dynamic—including that adorable companion—it still makes for a good and enjoyable read.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This story is dual POV, charmingly written and well edited, and a fast-paced, sweet and steamy, adventure filled, sci fi romance between Maya, the female human animal obedience trainer lead, and Ranek, the male alien escaped prisoner and now mercenary lead. I enjoyed Maya’s confidence in engaging with Ranek and the way she’d immersed herself in the alien culture. I enjoyed Ranek’s shock at finding a second mate, and his sincere pursuit of Maya whilst injured. I enjoyed the steamy intimate scenes. I enjoyed the non-romance plot. I enjoyed the cameos from characters in previous stories in the series, and the supportive secondary characters. I adored the animal companion that Maya was training. I enjoyed the solution found for lifestyle and happiness in the future.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
I'm gonna start this by saying this is my first read from Lynnea Lee, but I've read a couple from the author's other penname
Although this book is part of a series, I found it worked well as a standalone. There were points throughout that clearly referenced previous books, and characters who had previously been FMCs and MMCs appeared, but it was done in a way that, over all, kept the story accessible to new readers. It's also a comparatively short read, and I finished it in about two days
I did find parts of the story rushed, comments characters made directly contradicted comments made previously, and dialogue sometimes came across stilted or awkward. I did enjoy it though, and plan to work my way through the rest of the series when I have gaps in my reading plans
Also, if you're not big on the trope, this story does include memory loss due to head trauma (MMC)
Maya and Ranek's story - Hope turns into more! Maya is trying to make a pet delivery while recovering from heartbreak, and Ranek is struggling to make a living while healing from something far worse. If you’re new to the Tallean Mercenaries series, I recommend starting at the beginning to fully appreciate the world and its inhabitants. Lynnea Lee is very good at worldbuilding and making believable characters with quirks, flaws, and growth. This book offers pets and creatures, plenty of heat and heart, and a mix of love, lust, action, and trouble. Ranek may forget some things, but never Maya. A fun, quick, engaging addition to the series that also brings back some familiar faces. Highly recommended author (check out all her books!) and series for fans of sci-fi alien romance genre! 👍🍀🦄✨ 4.5 (rounds to 5!)
'“Stars, female, the things you do to me.” His voice was rough and possessive, and sounded just as needy as she felt. It was a turn-on knowing that little old her made this big, sexy Tallean male feel this way.'
I love the stranded-on-a-dangerous-alien-planet trope, so I was excited for this new Tallean romance. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Maya and Ranek. The chemistry between them was sizzling, and I loved how well they worked together. Commander Chaos was such a fun addition to this romance. The hot spring scene was one of my favorites- not just the sexy times, but the sweetness of just being there together with Chaos. I could envision it so perfectly.
This story was a fun adventure was action, danger, and twists and turns I didn't see coming. I was hooked. 5 stars
This was cute but the pacing was too chaotic. There was always something new happening, not a single second to slow down and make the characters get to truly know each other beyond the past they shared in bursts.
Plus, the plot was a little messy at times, too many side plots that were just messing with the character development. Not to mention the fact that the MMC was confused like 70% of the time and the FMC was more focused on the “dog” and being hornet than anything else.
It was entertaining and while messy, also kinda fun I guess.
PD: kinda wished the alien dick was special or sum but nope, regular d (disappointed:( )
A Hope for Ranek was a new-to-me series by Lynnea Lee, and it absolutely did not disappoint. I’ve loved her other series, and this one quickly drew me in as well. Maya is a human tasked with delivering a dragus pup to his new owner, but her journey takes a dangerous turn when the ship she is traveling on is hijacked by pirates. She escapes with the pup—aptly named Commander Chaos—and ends up stranded on a nearby planet while waiting for rescue.
That’s where she meets Ranek, a Tallean who immediately feels a powerful connection to Maya. The Talleans have in fated mates, a trope I never get tired of, and their chemistry unfolds beautifully against the backdrop of survival and hope. This was a heartfelt, captivating read and the perfect choice with Valentine’s Day just around the corner.
