The small things are never what they appear to be...
Isolation is important when you’re different. Thirty years of protecting himself ends with one blast intended to end his life. The explosion happened. The building collapsed. Kane Rand walked away. He always walks away, which is why they want him.
They can try to shoot him, stab him, set him on fire or anything else they can come up with to subdue the mob enforcer. It won’t work. Kane is impenetrable. His skin keeps him safe while his cunning mind and deadly skills keep him alive.
There’s nothing to protect his heart.
Alannah Carey steals his unprotected soft spot with one look. Now he’s in the fight of his life to keep her safe, his family alive and himself out of the hands of an agency that’s been trying to capture him from the time he was born.
The miracle of life soon becomes a tortured cell where survival is the only option.
Or in Kane’s case, a breeding ground for vengeance.
Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Norma Jeanne recently found herself relocating to the United Kingdom. Now living in Belfast, she took hold of the opportunity to kick the 9-5 job for a chance to become an author. The best part: working from her home office, she gets to spend more time with her cast of crazy characters (written and real).
In her free time Norma Jeanne is a voracious reader and consumes books as readily as meals. She is a people watcher by nature and uses her experiences in life, observed or otherwise, to build the worlds and characters that thrive in her books. A believer in the strength of the human spirit, Norma Jeanne writes the stories of people that persevere when all appears to be lost.
Ok so the paranormal element was way more prevalent than I anticipated but this book rocked! The hero was very alpha but he had a depth of caring for the people in his inner circle that was awesome. I loved the heroine too. She was vulnerable but still strong and spunky. Awesome cast of supporting characters and very interesting plot with twists that were unlike any I've read before really. Overall a great read!
I stayed up too late and woke up too early to read this book in between work and school. I love this author, whom I found quite by accident. This is a time when taking a chance and downloading a free book really pays since Norma Jeanne Karlsson has become somewhat of automatic 1-click buy for me.
Misunderstood Miracles is paranormal in that the characters are dealing with “shields” that make their bodies impervious to certain threats (fire, ice, water, bullets, cuts/stabs, etc.). We meet Kane, a mob enforcer, who is emotionless and kills without mercy. He’s known he’s different, that he can’t be killed, since he was a small child. So he’s reckless, taking unnecessary risks with his life…and that’s where the trouble begins.
Kane reconnects with Alannah after a hit leaves him in the hospital and the two share a brief, but super passionate, night together before being separated by enemy forces. Kane wakes up in a strange place, surrounded by doctors and researches and people that are like him. Has he finally found a place to belong? Or is it all some nefarious plot to harness his power and use it for evil?
Ms. Karlsson spins a wonderful tale and I couldn’t put it down! My few cons for this book include the use of the word “snark”. It was used 20 times in this book alone (and throughout her other novels). I like the word as a verb and synonym for other words like snide or cutting, etc, but it feels overused. And some spelling errors like broche instead of broach and a few missing words (“I’m not sad. I fu*%ing fuming.”). None of this are deal breakers and the story is great and well written, but small things like this can take me out of the story.
Beware, it ends on a sort of cliffhanger, though this story has an ending that’s satisfactory. It’s open to be a series (hopefully of the rest of the characters we’ve met and not just about Kane and Alannah). Buy it, read it, love it. Read it again. Then check out her Blackness series (Shrouded in Blackness and Into the Blackness are two of my absolute fave books!).
4-4 1/2 stars. This one surprised me. I read and enjoyed another book from this author "Mugs of Love", so I wanted to give this a try. I really enjoyed the characters--both main and secondary. The entire story is told from the H's pov,--which is an interesting change--so we get a pretty good feel for his character. He's a very good alpha male lead, possessive of the h, loves his crazy mother, and doesn't care what every one thinks. The h is smart, caring, and very strong. I like these two together, there romance was believable, and I can envision a HEA for them. Secondary characters also added a lot to the story--both for entertainment and emotional value. What surprised me most was the sort of paranormal spin I was not expecting--I guess I just missed it from the book description. I thought it added a very interesting and different plot line. I found the suspense and mystery behind everything intriguing, and thought the action was exciting. There were a couple of books I've been waiting to come out become available while I was reading this, but I couldn't seem to put this on hold to start them--that says a lot since I usually find myself jumping between books. Authors's writing style is pretty good--I personally didn't notice too many errors, but sometimes it seemed a little choppy-- and intimate scenes were very spicy. I would definitely recommend this.
I am utterly addicted to this author's Blackness series, so I was excited when I found this book. After reading the synopsis, I really wasn't sure I would like it. While I like some paranormal, it is not typically my first choice. However, since this book was free on kindle unlimited, I figured why not try it. I found myself hooked in quite quickly. It was nothing like I expected and not even remotely similar to anything I've ever read. The book was written from Kane's first person perspective. Typically, first person from a male point of view throws me off a bit, but this one didn't. I loved being inside his head.
The characters in this story were so well developed. I easily became attached to most all of them. I will be so disappointed if this doesn't turn into a series so I can catch up on how things turn out for each one. Kane was a bad man who ultimately became the only good in so many lives. Alannah was his perfect foil. She was hard enough to handle being in Kane's life but also softened his rough edges in his relationships with others.
So much crazy stuff happens in this story, but I really think it would spoil it to have too many details before experiencing it. I will just say that it is a total and complete emotional roller coaster in the most amazing way. If you have read the Blackness series and liked it, you will also love this. If you haven't, what are you waiting for?!?
I am a fan of this author. She is an automatic buy for me. As always she an excellent storyteller. This story has murder, mayhem, destruction, psychos and Miracles. There is a love story and romance between a killer who can't be killed a needy surgeon who loves him. This read will have you on the edge of you're seat it is action packed drama. Enjoy I did
