Have you ever had a book make your head hurt? Like you so strongly connected with a character that you truly physically felt everything they did? I had no idea it was possible, but I know now. When I say this made my head hurt, I don't mean it in a bad way, I mean it in the sense that I felt every ounce of confusion, panic, fear and relief along with Lyra. My head throbbed with hers, my heart beat erratically, my chest tightened, my palms got sweaty and when she was exhausted, I felt it bone deep. This book made me feel things I had no idea I was capable of feeling from a book. The way Sabreena wrote this book felt like she was writing from her Soul. From her heart.
The care and love she wrote into Lyra's mental health struggles, was remarkable. And so tastefully done. The struggles Lyra faced, the demons she faced, honestly, I couldn't tell what was real or in her head. But that's the thing right? An extraordinarily written psychological thriller is supposed to leave you confused and questioning everything on the page. And this did. Remarkable! And I don't throw that word around lightly. A book has to truly make me feel something in my soul and this did. Bone/soul deep.
This is my first 10 star read. This is my first instant recommendation book. This is a book that will live rent free in my head for a very long time. Thank you so much Sabreena, for allowing me to be a part of this.
This book was a dark, twisting, haunting fairy tale that I could just not get enough of. The twists and plot kept you guessing and sometimes I was right on the nose and other I was completely in another state with how far off I was. I loved working through this story with Lyra - figuring out what and who was real and what wasn't.
I'm not a religious person at all and the last quarter of this book was written in such a way that it made it a story and part of the narrative instead of the feeling of having religion pushed down my throat, which was appreciated and kept me involved with the story to the last page.
I really enjoyed this story if you are looking for something dark, spooky, and questioning - then this book is for you! There are some trope lists I've seen that call this one a dark romance - I feel the love story takes a front row seat but the "romance" is not the purpose of this book if that makes sense. Go in expecting a thriller, not a romance and you will absolutely adore this story.
There were a couple of little things that pulled me out of the story such as repeated phrases or words that were used way too frequently, but other than that I enjoyed my time with this story and enjoyed any time I got to pick it up.
I had to take a bit to think about my rating / review for this one.
I want to start by saying I don't think this was fully for me, but I pushed through and finished it anyways. It started out really strong and I was really loving it, but then it just got a bit repetitive and nothing seemed to be happening. I think it could have been much shorter than it was, and I likely would have liked it a lot more. The parts that could have used more depth weren't really touched on, and I guessed a lot of what was going to happen. That's just a me issue though, since I tend to do that a lot and I'm not factoring that into my rating. The writing was good, it just needed less.
it is a standalone for anyone who doesn't like to start unfinished series! 565 pages.
more to expect : - Hallucinations - 1st Person Pov - Cult - Religion
Thank you to Crowns & Chaos for gifting me an e-arc!
This gem... I am completely speechless. This story follows Lyra and her struggles with mental illness and mannnnnnnnn. It is sooooooo good! I thoroughly enjoyed EVERYTHING about this gem. It kept me hooked and wanting more from the beginning. This book will continue to live in my brain rent free for days to come, it was that good! I highly recommend picking up this book and giving it a go, you will be hooked! So much love and support, Sabreena! Thank you for entrusting me to read this for you!! 💖💖
This book is plot heavy, and you can really feel the care the author took when crafting and planning out the story. What stood out most to me was how beautifully this book studies mental illness, woven with elements of thriller and fantasy. It’s emotional, tense, and thought-provoking in the best way. I honestly feel like it’s hard to fully review this book without giving spoilers, so I’ll just say this, it’s one I think everyone should experience for themselves. I’m giving it 4 stars because there were moments where the pacing felt a bit slow for me, but overall it was a powerful read.
3.75⭐️ This went from horror/psychological chaos to Constantine/Good Omens to a sermon. It was an interesting rollercoaster. There were definitely times that I felt like a lot of content could have been cut down because it become repetitive, and on the flip side there were aspects left unexplained. All and all it was an interesting read that held my interest. Thank you to the author and Crowns & Chaos for the ARC.
Silence of the Ravens had my chest in knots, and my mind, by the end, anchored in constant chaos.
This is a book you pick up when you’re thinking, ‘Life’s too good right now, I’m too happy, and I need a book to ruin that for me,’ and with that in mind, this book is a great choice. If you have any ounce of empathy, you will have such a strong emotional connection to the female main character; she’s been through it, adopted at six, and diagnosed with schizophrenia at seven. She’s had a rough go since childhood, despite being adopted by caring and loving parents. Fortunately for me, I could not relate to her character, but she was such a strong character, well written; I could relate with her in some ways, and so I became highly invested in Lyra Rose's emotional pain and torment to the point I couldn’t put the book down.
The secondary characters have their own mystery to them. This is a psychological thriller; not one person should be trusted, but with good writing comes trust. No matter how hard I tried to be suspicious, I couldn’t help but sprinkle some trust now and then and hope that I wouldn’t regret that decision and live with it for as long as this book has a place in my mind. The characters were great; they added a lot to the story and brought some joy and happiness, which you have to cling to when you’re reading a psychological thriller, so your emotions don’t fall too low. I clung to my life in those moments of happiness, because they were few and far between. These secondary characters sent me on an emotional rollercoaster.
As much as I am sunshine and flowers, I do love a dark book, and I’ve read my fair share. I thought the story was dark; it explored a lot of heavy topics, which made for a compelling narrative. I was satisfied with the ending and how everything wrapped up. I highly recommend reading the trigger warnings, but if those don’t bother you, then dive into this journey. It’s a wild ride, but one that will stick with you for some time.
I received this book as an Advanced Reader Copy for my honest review. I would like to thank Sabreena Rodgers and Crowns & Chaos for allowing me the opportunity to read this ahead of its publish date. Silence of the Ravens was excellent. I think this is being marketed as a dark fantasy, which may be correct but I thought it fell solidly in the horror genre ~ at least that is what I would call it had it been made into a movie. The main character shows up in the story at the age of 6 with no memory of an extremely traumatic event that has left her diagnosed at age 7 with PTSD, hallucinations, and delusions that last into adulthood, setting this story up as quite the psychological thriller. PLEASE check your trigger warnings if any of these things send up red flags for you. For me this story was down-right scary. Perhaps it is because I was just as unsure what was real and what was hallucination right along with Lyra and this is something I would be afraid of. I even had bad dreams. There are some religious themes woven throughout the storyline and included one of the most beautiful prayers said over a person going through trauma that I've ever heard/read. I highlighted that because I think I'd like to write it down and use it in the future.
Some things I didn't particularly like: There is overuse of some phrases, particularly variations of "a smile that didn't reach their eyes." Parts of the story get very lyrical, using similies and metaphors a bit much. I'm sure this is purposeful in context, but I found it distracting sometimes. There are too many endings, including a POV from a main character that the story didn't include the POV from at any other point in the book. It was a little like watching The Return of the King... where you kept thinking you could get up and leave the theater, but couldn't because the endings kept coming. LOL!
I loved this book. It falls into one of my favorites this year so far and I would give it another .25 to .5 stars if Goodreads would let me.

*** TROPES *** - Mental Health (Schizophrenia, Suicide) - Unreliable Narrator (Hallucinations) - Divine vs Demonic - Raven shifters - Cults - Slow-burn romance - Chosen One
*** QUOTES *** "Shards of stained-glass crunch beneath his booys as he scoops up my helmet, his fingers trembling slightly as he shakes out fragments that glitter like evil stars in the half-light."
"A chrous of voices invades my mind, bypassing my ears entirely—each syllable reverberating inside my skull like fingernails on a chalkboard, yet harmonized like a twisted choir of the damned."
*** SPEED/PACING *** There were a couple of slow moments though the beginning and middle of the book, however things were happening at a fast enough pace that I couldn’t put this book down!
*** OVERALL THOUGHTS *** Wow... just wow. I've always been obsessed with Ravens and Cros, so when I came across this (and saw the gorgeous cover) I knew I had to read it. Normally I don't read Spychological Thrillers... but this one was just wow.
The main character is instantly relatable and you start rooting for her. Becuase of her mental illness (Schizophrenia) she suffers from hallucination... and let me tell you, the lines between reality and delusion blur so well that you, as the reader, begin to question what is real and what isn't.
Throughout the entire book my mind was turning everything over, asking questions, trying to figure out what whas real and what wasn't- just like the main character.
The author's use of language was absolutely beautiful. And I found myself re-reading cerain passages as she found beauty in her descriptions even in the macabre.
Bonus points for the Supernatural references! (I'm a huge fan)!
Giving this a 5⭐️ rating as this now lives rent free in my head!
Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I think I was meant to read this book, especially at this time when I'm struggling with my own mental health issues. There were times I felt overwhelmed, and I wondered if I should stop and revisit it later, but now that I'm done, I realise I made the right call by continuing it.
The plot was well thought-out and executed. Although the pacing was slow in the first half and I felt that certain scenes could have been cut short, it kept me hooked throughout. And once the story picked up, I was completely immersed in it and eager to know what would come next. The book had a haunting vibe, and I was transported to a whole different world.
The characters had depth — their backstories, motivations, and behaviour were described in detail, which gave me an insight into their personalities. I did suspect two of the characters' motives early on and had a feeling about the true identity of one, but the revelation still caught me off-guard. I was also playing a guessing game the whole time I was reading, trying to figure out if Lyra was hallucinating or things were really happening to her.
Another reason that I liked the second half of the book more was because Lyra wasn't alone anymore. She had a strong support system of people who truly believed her and in her. Apart from the problem of the evil cult and demonic entities, the author had also focused on some positive themes. The book explored true companionship, the power of love and the fact that we make difficult choices everyday that define us.
The final battle was chaotic and exciting! There was so much happening all at once, and I experienced a variety of emotions through all of it. When it finally ended and we came to the HEA part, I was so emotional.
I recommend this book to readers who enjoy a good paranormal psychological thriller with a broken but strong FMC, mysterious MMC, amazingly supportive friends and fighting cults and evil beings.
I received an eARC from Crowns and Chaos PR. This was my first book by Sabreena Rodgers and my first paranormal psychological thriller — and I am honestly blown away. I was initially drawn in by the hauntingly beautiful cover and an intriguing blurb, but what I found inside was so much more than I expected. From the very beginning, the atmosphere felt heavy in the best way — emotionally tense, layered, and immersive. The twists, the slow unraveling of truth, and the constant sense that something wasn’t quite right kept me completely locked in. Lyra is such a compelling main character. Experiencing the story through her hallucinations, intrusive thoughts, and vivid dreams made everything feel uncertain and heightened. I loved not always knowing what was real. That psychological edge added so much depth and kept me turning the pages, even when the pacing slowed in places. And while the pacing did feel a bit gradual at times, it never lost my attention because I needed answers. Every revelation felt intentional. Every shift added another layer. Just when I thought I understood where the story was heading, it evolved into something deeper and more emotionally impactful. At its heart, this is a story about resilience — about fighting the dark instead of surrendering to it. The heartbreak woven throughout felt raw and real, and the love threaded into the story was powerful without overshadowing the heavier themes. It struck such a beautiful emotional balance. There were a few minor things that didn’t fully land for me for instance the overuse of the words condensation, half-moon circles (pressing her nails into palms), but they were small in comparison to how much I genuinely loved this book overall. You can truly feel the care and heart poured into it. This was an easy five stars for me. If you enjoy emotionally layered, thought-provoking paranormal psychological thrillers that keep you questioning everything until the very end, I highly recommend picking this one up. And safe to say — I will absolutely be reading more in this genre.
Thank you, Sabreena and crownsandchaos_pr, for this ARC of 𝙎𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙍𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙨. This psychological thriller had me in a chokehold, questioning my own mind whether it was real or not. You'll enjoy the mind trip along with all the other nods to shows like Supernatural. This is a good mix of Alice: Madness Returns, Gothika, Alice in Wonderland, and Sabrina (the Netflix one) - all combined into one book.
Lyra Rose Kennedy is a certified schizophrenic. Adopted at the age of 6, she has no memories of what her life was before the Kennedys. Medication keeps the hallucinations and the voices at bay... until they don't. Not only that, Lyra notices she has a stalker who tells her if she doesn't stop taking the pills that are helping her, she will die.
Now, suddenly, the hallucinations feel real. Her nightmares are starting to leak into reality. Lyra can't tell what's real anymore, and worse... she is so tempted to give into the darkness that's cold embrace is starting to look like a enticing comfort compared to the medicated lull she is forced to endure.
Caught between cult secrets, twisted faith, and forces older than humanity, Lyra is pulled toward a destiny she was never meant to survive—only surrender to.

There isn’t a single word I could write that would do this book justice. Pick it up!! It is life altering!
I was enthralled with this book from the very beginning. The author starts the book with a list of trigger warnings (please read these!) and a list of resources followed by this beautiful statement:
“Your story matters. Your life matters. And reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.”
That was enough in itself to make me want to read the book! She told me that I matter and I am not weak!! How could I not want to know what other special things she would have to tell me in her book!
The prologue was so unique! I really loved how it leads us into the story in a way that you don’t usually see in books. I, also, thought the quotes used in the chapter beginnings were a great way to start each chapter.
I was moved by this book in so many ways. I connected with the FMC, Lyra. I felt the things Lyra felt. In fact, I have lived some of the issues that were covered in the book. The loss, the confusion, the betrayals, the lack of trust. If you are an empathic person you will definitely want a box of tissues and a few breaks throughout this book!
The writing in this book was phenomenal and you can definitely tell that the author was knowledgeable in many areas but also she put her heart and soul into it.
This book will be with me for a long time to come and I highly recommend it to anyone who may be struggling or feeling lost! It found me at just the right time and I cannot thank Sabreena Rodger’s enough for taking the time to write it!!
I had the honor to receive an advance copy and all opinions are my own.
Silence of the Ravens is dark, eerie, and completely gripping from the first chapter. The atmosphere is haunting and heavy with tension, creating that constant feeling that something supernatural is lurking just beneath the surface.
One of the most compelling parts of the story is Lyra’s mental health journey and how it intertwines with the paranormal elements of the book. Lyra experiences intense, disturbing visions that make her question her own sanity. Throughout the story she’s constantly trying to decipher what’s real, what’s in her head, and what might actually be something… other. The way the author blends psychological uncertainty with paranormal phenomena keeps you guessing the entire time.
As strange events and supernatural elements begin to unfold, Lyra’s visions start to feel less like madness and more like something deeper and more dangerous. That tension between mental health struggles and possible paranormal ability makes her character arc incredibly powerful. You experience the confusion, fear, and determination right alongside her as she tries to understand what’s happening to her and what it all means.
The mystery unfolds slowly, revealing dark secrets, chilling moments, and twists that keep the tension high all the way through. The eerie atmosphere combined with the supernatural elements makes the story feel immersive and unsettling in the best way.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A haunting paranormal thriller filled with psychological tension, supernatural mystery, and a deeply compelling protagonist trying to uncover the truth about her visions — and herself. 🐦⬛📚

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My Thoughts: Silence of the ravens has become my newest favorite dark psychological thriller book! This is my first time reading anything by Sabreena Rodgers and I immediately fell in love with her writing style and the way she created such an amazing dark and twisty world that had me thinking the entire time I was reading. I love psychological thrillers as if they are done well, they make you think and this one was perfect for that.
There are so many amazing quotes that I wish I could share but I do not want to spoil anything about this book as I think readers really need to give this book a chance by going into it blindly! I was completely invested in Lyra’s story and I loved the journey that we went on with her. There was such an amazing representation of mental health and psychological awareness in this story that I feel like the author needs all the recognition for.
The hallucinations, the vivid dreams, the ravens, the stalker, the hidden meaning behind everything was the full package with this story that had me curious to read it over the course of two days. I already want to reread this in the near future and give it some more time to fully process with my mind. Overall, this was an incredible read and I cannot wait for other readers to find this story as well!

When I first saw that the ARC signups were open for this book, I gotta be honest: the book cover got me. I already had a feeling that this was gonna be something that will stay with me for a long time. Did I judge the cover? Yes, and it was a positive judgment. Not to mention, it had been quite a while since I last read psychological thrillers. Throughout the mid to 3/4 of the book, I began to question where the FMC ever crosses the line of reality. You'll see how much the author put so much effort on not only the details on the actions but the entire plot, and the way she grasped schizophrenia made me imagine just how much it affects people with this condition (mind you, I know certain people IRL affected by this, and they happen to be close to me).
The quotes picked to open every chapter included were perfect. The endings were all justifiable, and the plot twists, chef's kiss. I already had an inkling mid-book, but I didn't know it was that intense.
Overall, I enjoyed the writing (although some phrases were a bit repetitive which isn't an issue for this book), the plot, the characters, and the way the message behind this book was delivered.
ꜰᴀᴠᴇ ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀs: Lyra, Corbin and Maren. Don't make me choose!
ʀᴇᴄᴏᴍᴍᴇɴᴅᴇᴅ?: YES, and hopefully get yourself a copy after reading this review.
Blurb: Lyra Rose has spent her life believing she is broken. Adopted at six. Diagnosed with schizophrenia at seven. Haunted by visions no one else can see. Medication keeps the voices quiet. The ravens watch her. The truth stays buried. Until it doesn’t. When Lyra returns to the island where her childhood ended in blood and silence, her reality begins to unravel. Her memories fracture. Her hallucinations feel too real. And one terrifying question rises above them all: What if the darkness has been lying to her? Caught between cult secrets, twisted faith, and forces older than humanity, Lyra is pulled toward a destiny they thought she would never survive—only surrender to. But surrender has a cost. And love, she will learn, is not always gentle. Sometimes it is the sharpest weapon of all. Silence of the Ravens is a paranormal psychological thriller about identity, betrayal, faith, and the courage to choose light when the world insists you belong to the dark. *Shifters *Psychological vs Supernatural Reality *Found Family *Ravens *Slow Burn Romance *Light Vs Dark *Betrayal *Choice Over Destiny
If you want a book that will stay with you rent free in your head long after you read it, this is the one for you! The plot twists and everything about this book will have you questioning dreams vs reality in the best way! Thank you so much Sabreena and Crown & Chaos PR for the eARC!
Silence of the Ravens is such a wild ride and in the best of ways. It is a paranormal psychological thriller, and I had no idea what was happening or where it was going to go, so it is in no way predictable, and it is written so incredibly well. This is a different kind of darkness than I’m used to, and it messes with your head (a mind**** if you will, and again in the best of ways). I felt like I was confused with what was real and what was a hallucination right alongside Lyra. It is fast paced for the most part, and because I was so intrigued to know what was going on I was captivated from the beginning all the way to the end. I think the characters are written really well and they develop throughout the book. I love that we learn later on in the story Lyra is not alone and has a support system that are truly there for her. I love the layers and underlying messages represented within this book. Overall, this was a great thought-provoking psychological read.
If you love paranormal psychological thrillers, chosen one & choice over destiny, cult secrets & religious terror, betrayal, found family, light vs darkness, consent as power, divine vs demonic, shifters, and forbidden knowledge then you should definitely check this out!
Thank you so much to Crowns and Chaos PR and the author for an advanced reader copy. I am voluntarily leaving a review, and all thoughts are my own.
I received this book as an ARC. Just wow! I could not put this book down. It was so well written and I kept reading and reading and reading until I finished it! It hit so close to home because I’ve worked in the mental health field for over a decade,
This writing style was so easy to follow, it felt like you were within the story. I didn't feel like an outsider looking in, I felt IMMERSED within the story.
Do you believe that death is the end of existence? Where is the line drawn between BELIEF and mental illness? Those shadows at the corner of your eyes may not just be your imagination. This story will have you questioning what is real, and will remind you that the choice of right versus wrong, and love versus hate, can have everlasting effects, and they are YOURS to make
That’s how the book made me feel at least…
The FMC, Lyra, her experiences seriously have you questioning whether what she is going through is real or not.
The connection between Lyra and Corbin was intense, but no overly ridiculous. It felt like it built appropriately, the tension and attraction felt believable.
The authors ability to bring the experiences of Lyra’s world to life was "chef's kiss."
This was absolutely amazing and it will absolutely be a re-read and comfort read for me in the future.
I received an ARC of Silence of the Ravens from the author, and this paranormal psychological thriller completely pulled me in.
The story follows Lyra, a woman who has struggled with mental health issues and hallucinations for much of her life, constantly made to feel unstable and unreliable. But when strange events begin to escalate, the question lingers in every chapter: what if the monsters are not symptoms, but something real?
The writing is incredibly easy to follow while still building tension in a way that feels deliberate and unsettling. It is one of those books that becomes impossible to put down because you need to know what is happening and whether Lyra can trust her own mind. The psychological elements are handled in a way that keeps you questioning everything without ever feeling confused.
The ending wraps up cleanly and provides satisfying closure. Personally, I think I was bracing myself for something devastating. I was ready to be emotionally wrecked, so the resolution surprised me. That is entirely a personal preference, not a flaw in the story. For readers who appreciate a thriller that ties its threads together while still delivering intensity, this will absolutely hit.
Overall, this was a gripping, fast paced read that blends psychological tension with paranormal elements seamlessly. Definitely one to watch for when it releases on March 3rd, 2026.
This was an excellent read! I just could not put it down once I started it. Sabreena somehow found beauty in all of her descriptions, even in the grotesque parts of the story. Her writing is just hauntingly beautiful.
Lyra was adopted at the age of 6 to a wealthy family with no memory of her childhood and traumatic events that left her diagnosed with PTSD, schizophrenia (extremely rare for this age), hallucinations and delusions that even with medications, follow her into her adulthood. The lines between reality and delusion blur throughout this book so well that even I as the reader questioned what was real and what wasn't.
I was constantly trying to figure out what was real right along with Lyra and I felt like I was so attached to her and felt for her so emotionally. She was trying her best to get out of this vicious cycle and she felt like she couldn't ever leave.
I did NOT think we were going to end up where we did at the end of the book but I am so glad that we did. I already wish that I could read this for the first time again.
You should definitely pick this up if you want to read a psychological thriller with a little religion weaved throughout it. It is so beautifully written and mental illness is represented so well in here. You can't help but feel like you are right there with Lyra.
Let me start by saying that the writing in Silence of the Ravens by Sabrenna Rodgers is on a whole other level. The descriptive scenes are incredibly elaborate and immersive, painting such vivid imagery that you can almost feel yourself standing inside the world the author created.
Going into this book, it’s helpful to keep in mind that the writing is very rich and detailed. Because of that, some scenes take their time to unfold and can feel a bit slower but honestly, that depth is also what makes the story so atmospheric and powerful.
What truly stood out to me was how brilliantly the book blurs the lines between reality and psychosis. At times you’re questioning what’s real right alongside Lyra, which adds such an intense psychological edge to the story. There are so many elements layered throughout the plot, and it genuinely amazed me how skillfully the author wove everything together.
The immersive writing style pulled me completely into the story. I found myself slowing down on purpose just to savor the experience rather than rushing through it. This is the kind of book that lingers with you while you’re reading and even after you’ve finished.
Thanks to Sabrenna Rodgers and @crownsandchaos_pr for the gifted eARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Review: I was blown away by Silence of the Ravens. It's a 6 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ read definitely and it's out now to read! The writing was beautiful and the pacing was great. As a mental health professional, I was swept in immediately from the prologue and the psychological accuracy was on point. The pain and suffering Lyra feels hits deeply; the blending of reality and hallucinations/delusions is seamless, that even I was swept in and wondered what was real and wasn't. I was on the seat of my chair while reading this story. I would highly recommend this book to anyone. It blends psychological aspects with fantasy, suspense, love, heartbreak, and the truth about mental health and how it can break a person. Hands down a brilliant book. It is dark however, so read the trigger warnings.
You can see how Lyra struggles with seeing what if real vs. not real with her hallucinations and past trauma history. This is done with respect to the mental health population that struggles with hallucinations and delusions. There were tears shed while reading this book. It tugs on your heart strings as you cheer Lyra on and hope that she can make it through her trials throughout the book. There were twists and turns that catch you off guard. This book is an amazing read and I could go on to say why in greater depth, but I don't want to spoil it.
Silence of the Ravens is a paranormal psychological thriller. It leaves you questioning what is real vs what is a hallucination. The entire book is a whirlwind of suspense that leaves you guessing who Lyra can trust.
This book is for those of us who didn’t know we were broken, and for those of us needing to know we aren’t alone in this crazy world. It’s also for those of us who are broken and need to heal. This book healed me in ways I didn’t know I was broken.
This is not the usual dark romance book I post about, however this book is one you really need to read. It brings to light so many important messages throughout the entire book.
This is a plot heavy book that focuses on Lyra and her journey to freedom from the inner workings of her mind. This book brings elements of mental health, hallucinations, trauma, betrayal, ravens, shifters, cults, slow burn romance, and sucide.
Overall, this book gets a big 5 stars!! This book is for those who love a good paranormal, psychological thriller that will leave you questioning everything throughout the book!
Please check trigger warnings before reading this book. Your mental health is important, and this book is heavy on the topic of mental health.
There are times when the right book finds you at just the right moment — for me, that moment is now and that book is Silence of the Ravens. I’m not sure my words will ever be adequate enough to describe the profound impact this book has had on me, but I will try to articulate its impact as best as I can.
If I had to choose three words to describe my life over the last several years, I would choose lost, broken, and hopeless. In my day to day life I kept my exterior facade of being joyful, self confident and hopeful in place, but inside I was falling apart piece by piece. I had abandoned all hope that things could be different and that I could find peace in my circumstances.
I turned to books as an escape from the hardships of life. They became my coping skill and I gravitated to stories that were easy, I shied away from any story that had trigger warnings that even had a vague indication of heavy topics. I was reading to escape and ignore my daily struggles, not to face them head on or even give them the side eye. Then came the opportunity to beta read and ARC read this book.
I was so close to turning it down, but felt the push to say “yes”, so I did. The trigger warning list was LONG and full of the things I was trying to avoid. Again, I considered not reading it, but something pushed me to keep going.
Lyra’s struggles were different from my own, but also similar. Her feelings of being worthless, her feelings of helplessness, how her anxiety consumed her…it all felt very familiar. The story itself was captivating, the descriptive way Sabreena writes makes the scenes play out as if you’re watching a movie — so much so that I wanted to hide under the covers at times. The twists and turns in the story had me second guessing everything and what was reality.
The mental health and faith aspects of this book were further proof that this book was meant to find me. It broke me apart and helped me face parts of myself that I had been trying to hide. It truly wrecked me, but in the best way possible. It helped me to see that despite my circumstances that I’m not alone in my struggles, that I am WORTHY and not “worthless” despite what the world and my inner voice tells me, and that there is still hope for healing.
I’m beyond grateful that I was given the opportunity to read this book. This is the type of story/book that will stay with me forever. “Humanity is full of trials, evil, and hardships—but it is also full of light and happiness if you so choose it.”
Thank you to Sabreena for the opportunity to read and review this book. Thank you for also listening to that “still small voice” and letting it guide you through writing this book. You, your writing and Lyra’s story have forever changed my life and for that I am eternally grateful.
Hello, people! I feel lucky to constantly read books that belong to my reading interests and that open up my cognitive horizons. The truth is that this review made it difficult for me. Not because I didn't like the book but because every word pales in comparison. The author manages with exceptional mastery to put the reader inside the story, to convey knowledge about the psyche and psychiatric illnesses. All of this takes place in a fantasy world with some thriller elements. Her writing is rich, full, exciting, moving, shocking, dark, intense, with tension and anguish and enhances empathy. The portrayal of the main heroine is so captivating, as she is dynamic and strong. In addition, she touches on the topic of adoption and parental and endless love, even if the parents are not biological but adoptive. In this way, the reader experiences true love that has no limits. Finally, I was particularly excited by the thin line that separates reality from fantasy, due to schizophrenia, which further strengthened, for me, the issue of what is truth or imagination, making me feel, at times, tachycardia, and with the apt plot that leads to a complete psychological thriller. Read it... yesterday!
Many thanks to the author and Crowns and Chaos PR for the eARC!
I don't know if I have a word to describe how I feel about this book. It evoked so many emotions and made me feel seen. Sabreena described depression, anxiety, and mental health in such a beautiful way. She hit on the darkness and despair while honoring the strength and beauty of the individual harboring all of those emotions inside.
The twists in this book kept my attention glued to my Kindle screen, too! You, along with the FMC, weren't always sure what was real and what was a delusion or hallucination. I was always playing the scenes through in my head for clues.
I also loved how faith played such a big part in this book. The fight between feelings that bring on doubt and faith was captured so well. Everything was so emotional. I definitely cried multiple times.
I can't forget about Corbin, either! He was just *chef's kiss* perfect! I won't say more because I don't want to spoil anything.
Overall, if you're looking for an immersive and touching read that also brings on the paranormal psychological thriller experience, then this is your read! I'm thankful that I was able to receive an ARC of this book from the author.
While marketed as a psychological thriller, this story transcends simple categorization. Though it blends elements of thriller and fantasy, at its core, it is a heartbreakingly beautiful study of mental illness. Rodgers masterfully places the reader behind Lyra’s eyes, forcing you to question what is real and what is imagination—and how to navigate the blurred lines between the two.
To avoid spoilers, I’ll simply say the ending is brilliantly ambiguous: it can be interpreted as a traditional fantasy twist or a "real-world" delusion that offers our lead a sense of peace. Because of this depth, it’s a difficult book to review in detail without giving too much away. However, I highly recommend it for fans of thrillers and fantasy, those who appreciate modern pop-culture nods (I see you, fellow Supernatural fan!), or anyone looking for a deeply empathetic and touching portrayal of mental health.
☕ Final Verdict Haunting, touching, and emotionally complex, this book is a true roller coaster. This was a beautiful introduction to Sabreena Rodgers’ work, and I’m eagerly looking forward to what she writes next.
My mind is still reeling from the journey this book took me on. The fine line between what’s reality vs hallucinations/psychological left me feeling a whirlwind of emotions.
The medical report opening was crafted so beautifully to not only set the scene, but really prepare the reader for the journey ahead. As a fellow medical professional, I think it was written so well and truly did the book a great justice. The spacing throughout the story also created a suspenseful ambiance that added to the theatrics and overall vibe to further enhance it for the readers.
Several incredible Supernatural drops that made me so happy as that show has such a soft spot in my heart!
Sabreena also put so much love into mental health, and I think that’s represented well throughout the read. The support group meeting stood out to me with the therapist running it incredibly well, and giving a perfect speech on healing journeys through grief that rang so true for me.
I will say in the midst of an exciting story, I did feel a bit lost at times. There were also several repetitive pieces of verbiage that took me out of the story a smidge, but overall an excellent read.
