Enchained was just what I needed. I felt a reading slump coming on, and this short demon romance perked me right back up. The writing was good, there was spice but it wasn't the whole plot, and enough world building or end-of-the world building to be interesting.
Devik, bastard son to the prince, is working a boring desk job doling out punishments to humans who break demon law. He's a glorified pencil pusher and his life is uninteresting until he gets a message that dear old dad wants to see him ASAP.
Linden has been sold at auction, and the demons paid the highest price. She's been injected with a heat serum, and the prince wants Devik to help her through her heat for science --demon science. The prince wants to know the effects of the serum on demons. Devik can't refuse. Not because the prince is his dad, but because the prince is the boss.
Devik and Linden are thrown together. Can she survive in his world? Can he survive her?
Tropes: dual POV, forced proximity, fated mates/bonds, touch her and die/possessive, forbidden love, and demon romance
Content Warning: dubious consent including contact while under the influence of a substance, power imbalance, and non-human pregnancy.
I received this as an ARC, but these opinions are my own.

I went into this book expecting a spicy romance based on the description, but the reading experience felt very different for me.
The story actually started off strong with some spice, but as it continued it began to fall flat. The chemistry between the characters felt weak, and the pacing was fairly slow. I also struggled with the plot, as it didn’t always make much sense to me.
The story begins with the FMC being captured and auctioned off to demons who paid the highest price for her. She is then experimented on with a new drug, and this is where most of the spice appears. For my taste, a lot of it felt partially closed door, which wasn’t what I expected going in.
As the story progressed, the tone shifted and the FMC seemed to become comfortable with her situation fairly quickly. It almost felt as though the circumstances didn’t bother her as much as I expected they might. Because of that, I had a difficult time connecting with her emotions. Her reactions felt somewhat dull or blunted, and I struggled to feel the tension in the story.
There also wasn’t a lot of worldbuilding. The book had an interesting concept and character idea, but overall it just didn’t work for me.
That said, readers who prefer slower pacing and lighter spice may have a different experience.

I really enjoyed this book. I found Linden's attitude very believable in a way that other books haven't captured. If the world she lives in is controlled by these supernaturals it would make sense that you may not like what has happened but making the best of it is the wisest choice. She expresses her frustration and wish for freedom while also knowing this is probably the best path available. I find it annoying sometimes when the FMC is fighting for no real reason. She accepts where is it at and tried to make the best of it. I also really like Devik's character. I think Isla did well to capture a realistic species difference in their attitude. It took him time to understand what he was feeling and didn't 100% get there but he knew things changed. I liked that choice because I think it is logical to assume a demon would not have the same emotional capacity or understanding as a human. He was also stuck but used what he could to protect Linden. I would definitely say this is on the lighter side of dark. I thought they were quite cute and wonderful together. I enjoyed their story and how the grew to choose one another apart from being forced together.

The world-building has a lot of potential—a unique setting where supernatural beings are superior to humans, but I felt it lacked depth. I wanted more background on the world's history and how humans ended up in their current position. Why is Devik where he is?
The connection between Linden and Devik is intense, driven by a serum-induced bond that turns them into test subjects due to the Demon Lord's greed. However, I felt the emotional development between them could have been stronger. While there is some spice at the beginning, it fades away as the story goes.
The atmosphere starts off dark and gloomy, but it didn't feel "dark" enough for me. I expected more of the ruthlessness usually associated with demons. Overall, it’s a light, interesting read with a HEAV, but it's more like "Happy For Now" ending, as the epilogue leaves many unanswered questions.
A good choice if you want a slightly darker story with an interesting monster element, but don't expect it to be "pitch black."
Rating: 3.5 / 5 ⭐ (It’s not quite a 3, but not quite a 4 either.)
Spice : 1.5 / 5 🌶️(Some open scenes at the beginning, but the spice disappears as the story goes.)

ARC Review 📚
Well, this book was a bit confusing at times, it was alot of stuff that collided and really didn't make sence because there's alot of inconsistencies within it's own plot and it wasn't the most exciting book I've ever read.. It was pretty dull, even though it was alot of sex at the beginning for under 200 pages.
It's also so much repeats troughout the book, like there is not much new stuff happening..
AND something that bothered me is; at the front of the book, Devik has horns, is "nak*d" and also bald. In the book however, it's not like that. It specifically says "Devik run a hand trough his hair, frustrated". And it mentions that he has clothes on..
So this wasn't for me, I won't be reading anymore of these books..

AWESOME Story
This story was completely different from what I expected, but totally worth reading. Humans have been taken over by the supernatural community. Werewolves, vampires and Demons trade, sell and use us as needed. Raised by Vampires, used for info, then shot full of a heat drug and taken to the auction. Bought by a Demon and used as an experiment. Thanks Isla, I truly enjoyed reading this story and look forward to more.

Slightly out off strange story
This story started off well with lots of spice. Sadly I was put off when his mate found out she was pregnant - with eggs! 😂
