I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review. This is a spoiler free review!
5/5 stars. An imperfect mess. The only way i can describe Gemma and Grim.
The Crowne Point universe is a captivating experience that will have you craving more every-time. Due to my reads of the previous books back in 2020, i had received a perfect context. But with the exceptional writing from MCG, I didn’t need a reread at all as the context was written between the lines. This is helpful if you would like to read this book as a standalone. But this book is the fifth book of the series and entails the story of Gemma and Grim.
Gemma and Grim had me absolutely hooked. They’re such beautiful chaos and seeing their story finally come to life has been genuinely an amazing experience as a reaper who has been awaiting this for the past 5-6 years!
Gemma Crowne is known to be “Americas princess” with her perfect looks and pre-planned destiny by her second name, Crowne. She’s a lone wolf but the family titles weight has landed on her head following her sibling’s abandonment of the Crowne name, as they lead a life of normality and simplicity. The Pressures on Gemma to also make her mother, Tansy Crowne, happy with the various amounts of suitors and old men shes required to entice throughout the social events. At first shes honestly slightly unlikeable but, personally i adored her, especially seeing her through the layers of depression and unhealthy coping mechanisms she uses, its truly something thats hidden underneath but definitely something you cannot ignore and creates a connection between her and the reader. Shes relatable and real regardless of being a fictional character. Despite all of this, Gemma still tries to fulfil her duty to the family name. But her connection to the Horsemen makes this very difficult, especially with her connection to Grim, the Horseman she had created her debt with.
Bringing me to Grim, a complex character with a unique way. Grim is a morally grey character (my fave) but undoubtedly he has been through a rough and rocky past. He is a part of the Horsemen, who work for a higher man named Vander, which later comes into play. Grim is a sexy character and has lines in the book that will have you swooning. Safe to say i had a good few highlights of his lines! However, together Grim and Gemma have this undoubtedly strong connection that’s portrayed strongly from the beginning of the book. He has this sense of awareness that heightens around Gemma. He’s captivated by her every way and their f*cked up way of showing their care for one another is daring and romantic in darkest of ways. Together they’re a force to be reckoned with, and as a usually avid reader, this is all i love to see. They’re so incredibly hot as well, they have crazy tension and the passion between the two of them was incredible. i had immense bi panic while reading this!! Their strong history only strengthened the narrative and the bond between them. It also contributed to the development between the two. But without saying too much, Gemmas debt to the Horsemen can only be resolved in death creating a rampage of chaos throughout. This whole plot was so intriguing and had me absolutely on the edge of my seat as i watched love, passion and hurt spiral througout the story.
Overall, MCG does an awesome job of giving you the feel and true atmosphere of the book in every aspect and scene. It’s truly brought to life and emotions are felt through the words written upon the page. I also appreciate her realness with Gemmas depression and unhealthy coping mechanisms, its not just sorted with a snap of the finger and its something the remains a constant throughout. i really appreciate that, its not usually portrayed realistically in books but its a great addition to this one. This book had me wanting more and more of the Crowne Point Universe. MCG just has a way with words and i cannot wait to see more of the Horsemen and their stories, especially Lock and Zabby!
I genuinely enjoyed this book and even while my own world was in a bit of chaos, this was the perfect switch of passionate energy i craved. I thoroughly recommend this book and the books before it as-well. The Crowne point Universe is worth a read and it’s an escape into a different place that will have you wrapped around its finger in the best way possible.
Savage Sanctuary Crowne Point Book 5. This was my very first book by this author and in this standalone series. I will be quiet honest that I wasn’t sure I would be able to read this book as I was about 30% in and couldn’t get connected to the storyline, so I pushed through to get to 50% and that when I was finally able to understand and get into the book.
This book follows Grim and Gemma, Grim is one of the four Horseman and Gemma is Americas Princess.
Gemma Crowne, Her life has never been her own. Her life has been pre-planned for her since she was born. She will do what it takes to make her mother happy after the death of her father and how her brother and sister in better terms disappointed her. She has no true friends, all the girls who still surround her will sell her out in a minute if given the chance. Gemma never knows who to trust. Her mother is trying to set her up with a wealthy many to marry. But most of the 'suitor's' know about Gemma and her link to the Four Horsemen, and many of those who come around her never stay alive for long.
Grim , a member of the Four Horsemen men. Raze, Wraith & Lock, are the other Four Horsemen members. He's know Gemma since they were in school together, he's stalked / watched her ever since he saw her crying in a empty room one day. He saved her from drowning and she didn’t want to be saved. She never knew why he did it, and I secretly think she resented him for doing it, but they have been doing a dance around each other ever since. When Grim took on Gemma's debt by saving her, he didn't know the last 5 years would be protecting her from the men who came out in the night to harm her. He's killed more for her than she will ever realize. His Horsemen brother's can't understand why he keeps saving her.
Grim to Gemma: “It was always you. Would always be you.”
“I don’t just love you, Gemma. You live in my bones, in my marrow.” I dragged her down with me into the chair. “A thousand years from now when my bones have dissolved into the soil, when I’m nothing but dust and ashes, the earth will still feed on my love for you.”
It truly took me too long to understand Vander’s play in this book and once I did my heart hurt for Grim and Gemma all in all they wanted each other but what kept them from this was Vander. He is Grim’s long last father who he didn’t know existed until 16. And quite frankly I wish he didn’t but that’s what sort of helped this story along. Grim would DO anything to protect and keep Gemma at any cost. He was never meant to have her but couldn’t let her go regardless. The plan Gemma came up with so they finally could have their peace was golden. I truly did enjoy this story once I understood the dynamics of it with the charter.
Words from Gemma:
Grim wasn’t and would never be my prince; he was my reaper. He walked with me through hell and carried me out of the darkness.
I was never meant to fall in love with Prince Charming. My soul always belonged to the Reaper.
Who of the horseman will be next: Wraith is interested in Kennedy, Raze caught Blaire and Lock has his eyes set on Zabby or Sabrina….
Book Tropes: Dark Romance, Forbidden, opposites attract/ bad boy / spoiled American Princess, Steamy, Slow Burn.
I haven’t read any of the Crowne Point series yet, but this book definitely directing me to read the other books in the series.
Gemma Crowne - America’s Princess. Her life has never been her own. Her life has been pre-planned for her since she was born. Gemma comes from upper New York wealth. She needs for nothing. She wants for everything.
Gemma Quote: If Grim is your reaper, then you're his fucking reckoning. He knows you're going to kill him, and he refuses to let you go.

Quote:
He was a Grim, a criminal from the wrong side of the tracks. We were never meant to be anything but this - one soul enslaved to another - because the day we finally gave in to our temptation was the moment he became my reaper.
I did receive a free ARC copy for this book. I am freely leaving a honest book review.
Full disclosure: this is the first book in the Crowne Point world that I've read, BUT I'm definitely going back to read the rest because I just adored this one so much.
Gemma & Grim had such a unique history. They had a brief encounter in high school, and then several years later, Grim saves Gemma during a suicide attempt. She then becomes indebted to him, and in return, she makes Grim promise to kill her when the contract is fulfilled.
Gemma herself was really a great character. She starts off as the superficial princess that's hellbent on self-destructing and honestly, pretty unlikable. Then the layers start to peel back and you see all the pain she's got hidden underneath and how much she wants to break free from her pretend life. Also, bonus points to MCG for not magically solving Gemma's depression issues with dick. Even in the epilogue, it's there - she's coping, but it's still there, which is so refreshing for romance books.
And GRIM. 🥵 He's such a great dark romance book boyfriend. Obsessive, dangerous, possessive, and the dirty mouth on him... oof. I love him. The way he declares his love for her? GET OUT OF HERE WITH THAT. I re-read that little paragraph like 6 times because it made me so swoony.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this one. Definitely a slow burn, but there's plenty of action and banter to keep things moving. I can't wait for the rest of the Horsemen's stories - especially Lock and Zabby. 👀
Its been a little while since the author shared some Reapers with us. I did read the other books and I really love this family and the reapers too. I was sooo sooo excited for Grim and Gemma. I never stopped thinking if the continuation. I love love love this book. MCG delivered. Its insane that the pause didn't take away from anything, its like it never left, it meshed perfectly! I was worried I would be clueless and lost. I was in it like a movie. So so good. I love all the mysterious darkness and it just kept me on my toes like I was going to fall in so deep but little morsels here and there made it soo sweet and just full of secrets and drama and I absolutely love the all the tension that the author gives us. Its alot. The depth we get from These characters is heartbreaking. Im blown away. I never wanted it to end. Gemma is everything. I felt for her deeply. And Grim was the perfect piece for her. Gemma is so torn up and I have all the hope for her. She deserves all the love, I believe she can be good for Grim. I hope we see some more of them. I can't wait for our next toxic love story!!! Lol I definitely want to re read this entire series including this one. I purchased the 4 book deal Amazon for like a dollar or something, idk, I do have all them already but thay was a good deal lol. Thank you so much for allowing me to review this lovely arc ! So happy I was given an arc !!! 10 stars!!
I haven't read the other books in the series but if they're going to be like this, then I need them!
I have to admit that it started a little slow for me and it took me a bit to catch up with what was happening but that's totally my fault because I haven't read the rest of previous books. But let me tell you, once it picked up, I was unable to put it down.
Grim and Gemma were certainly made for one another. We all have things that bother us and sometimes to a point where you think -- what's the point in living! Well Grim tattooed Gemma's scratches on his chest and when that happens, it means you have a contract with these dark Horsemen. But Gemma never knew the extent of this contract and/or what it entailed.
Grim also had a past that made him who he was now. But for some reason Gemma was his whole reason for who he is now and he claimed her as his, she just needed to claim him as hers.
I haven’t read any of the Crowne Point series yet, but this book definitely tempted me to read the other books in the series. Gemma and Grim were such a unique pairing to me. They were constantly back and forth, but the push and pull really added to the draw of their relationship.
I will say I felt a bit lost at the beginning and didn’t fully understand their relationship at first, but as the story progressed, everything started to make sense and come together. And Grim professing his love? Best part of the book. I was screaming, crying…….like WOW!!! Also the ending of the book was actually just what I suspected from this novel, keep you on your toes!!
A huge thank you to House of Hearts Lit and Mary Catherine Gebhard for the ARC copy, as always all thoughts are my own.
I received this as an ARC and wow… I was not prepared for how completely it would take over my brain. The tension between Gemma and Grim is unreal—like the slow, aching, can’t-look-away kind of yearning that just builds and builds until you’re practically vibrating while reading.
This book is sexy, sinful, and honestly lives up to its savage energy in the best way. Every interaction between them had me hooked, and I ate up every charged glance, every moment of restraint, every bit of delicious chaos. It’s dark, addictive, and so easy to binge in one sitting.
If you love intense chemistry, emotional push-and-pull, and that “I shouldn’t want you but I absolutely do” vibe, this one delivers. I absolutely loved every second of it. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Dark , Emotionally charged , Forbidden, opposites attract/ bad boy / spoiled American Princess , Steamy , Slow Burn , Cat and Mouse , Twists and Turns , revelations, family and friendships, moments that are so heart wrenching and others that will have you rooting so freaking hard . Let me just say I was not prepared, not prepared at all for Gemma and Grims journey. For all the complexities and the different layers to their characters. How morally gray Grim was - so obsessed and protective- all the touch her and die vibes . I definitely had mixed feelings about these two in the beginning, but by the end of this epic story I really was absolutely in love and obsessed with these two .
I’ve waited six years for Grim and Gemma’s story — and Savage Sanctuary was worth every second. The tension, the yearning, the brutal push and pull between the underworld Reaper and the society princess? Absolutely intoxicating. Grim is savage and unrelenting, Gemma is polished but haunted, and together they burn in the most painful, delicious way. Dark, emotional, and impossible to put down. Bring on the rest of the Horsemen. 🖤🔥 I received the arc copy of this book via House of Hearts and Mary Catherine Gebhard and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Nothing about this book really clicked for me. The pacing was weird and uneven, the plot felt confusing at times, and I kept waiting for something exciting to finally happen but it never did. The forbidden debt romance angle had potential, but the execution was flat and forgettable.
The tension didn’t build, the emotions didn’t hit, and the story just kind of… existed. By the end, I wasn’t invested in the characters or their journey at all.
Honestly, this might be a sign I need to take a break from dark romance because if this is the direction it’s going in, I’m tired.
Holy Moly, GREMMA did not disappoint! I have been patiently waiting for the last Crown sibling to get their HEA. Gemma, the outwardly perfect, internally damaged Crowne. Grim has lived in the shadows with the Horseman and has tied Gemma's fate to himself. On paper Gemma and Grim would never work, but the heart wants who it wants in any way possible. I enjoyed the storyline and learning more about the mysterious Horsemen. I hope to read more in the Crowne Point series. I have been a fan since the beginning.
Oh my fucking God the book arrived…😭 the book came after years of moaning. It was about as cringe and fun as I expected. Fab. Let’s release the remaining horsemen files very soon. Also no shade idk how I feel about Wraith and Kennedy. Can we get someone else? Love razeblaire though. And especially love lockbrina hello that was fantastic!
There wasn’t enough storygray like ughh I wish we saw Gemma with them a lot more I’m saddened. But I loved what I was given though. Gemma being the baby’s godmother 😭🤏🏽 Sonnet Gemma Crowne we love you, your parents, your aunts and your underworld uncles!
A truly outstanding book! Dark, deprived and full of sexual tension that will have you at the edge of your seat! A captivating book with captivating characters! An honest to goodness wonderful story! I loved every word that Gemma has such depth and such a badass! Her and Grim are so addictive! The relationship between her and the Horsemen is so unique and so satisfying!
Grim and Gemma have been so long awaited. It’s always such a lucky little treasure when an author comes back. MCG did us a real one with this story and it’s all so set up for more to come. Love these characters and honestly am just dying to know more of the Horsemen.
Gremma was always my fave in the making with Crowne Point and we finally have it 💛💛. LOVED the pacing and dynamics between them. All the dark romance goodness is here in this one.
I felt a little lost in the beginning, like scenes were jumping around but that may have just been me. The story did pick up a few chapters in for me. Once I got into it, I did enjoy this book. It's dark with lots of cat and mouse back and forth dealings between the main characters - Grim & Gemma. And lots of sexual tension. I haven't read the others books in this world but I may just have to!
Savage Sanctuary was dark, addictive, and way more emotionally compelling than I expected.
Grim is the kind of MMC who lives in morally black territory, and I loved every second of it. He’s ruthless, obsessive, and fully convinced that everything he does is justified even when it clearly isn’t. What really worked for me was that his deal with Gemma wasn’t made out of duty or honor, but out of something selfish and consuming. His obsession with her is twisted, possessive, and somehow still felt… sweet in the most unhinged way.
Watching their relationship evolve from distant teenagers who barely interacted to a dynamic rooted in ownership, control, and undeniable pull was fascinating. Grim spends a lot of time fooling himself about the true nature of their arrangement, and that tension between what he claims the deal is versus what it actually means added so much depth to the story. Gemma’s slow acceptance of the darkness, and the fact that she starts to prefer being indebted to him over being free, made their connection feel layered and emotionally charged.
The world of Crowne Point continues to be such a strong backdrop, and even though this can technically be read as a standalone, the easter eggs and character overlap made it even more enjoyable. I’m honestly hoping this isn’t the last we see of this universe, because I was fully immersed and not ready to leave it.
If you love contract romance, morally gray monsters, possessive MMCs with a “touch her and die” mentality, and dark stories where obsession masquerades as salvation, Savage Sanctuary is absolutely worth picking up. 🖤🔥
This is book 5 in a series but can be read as a standalone. Grim and Gemma's story is a long time coming! The morally grey MMC and cat and mouse dynamic drew me in, and the darkness is immersive and so fun. I haven't read the rest of the series, but I'm going to go back and read it now!
It’s giving Penelope Douglas Devils Night Series vibes. But I am HERE FOR IT. I was honestly sucked it. I don’t think it was too dark. I do want to read more about the real underworld.
