An eclectic quartet of stories that blend mystery, horror, with the uncanny, and truly original.
You’ll have a very short story (about 5 pages), combined with the three others that take up the rest of the pages of the book.
My favorite was “The Basement,” the opening story, which details a terrifying creature (that merges human and another creature) I won’t spoil it. The Basement will have you on the edge of your seat and checking to make sure the light is on before going down to the basement. Or, any room for that matter.

I had the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book, and what stood out to me most were the strength of the concepts and the emotional undercurrent running through the stories.
There’s a real sense of grit in the descriptions, paired with themes of grief, loss, and the struggle of carrying both, coupled with a supernatural element that runs beneath the four stories. I was especially drawn to how curiosity is portrayed—not just as a driving force, but as something that can lead characters into places they may not be prepared for. Knowledge in these stories isn’t always a gift; sometimes it feels more like a trap, and that idea lingers.
There were several moments and concepts that stayed with me, particularly the storyline involving the President’s daughter and her bodyguard, which I found especially compelling.
There’s a lot of creativity here, and I’m looking forward to seeing more from K.L. Patrick

These were a set of clever and thrilling stories. What I truly enjoyed about them was that they connect to K.L's main novel, The Disappearing of Three Forks. I recommend you read that to truly enjoy the interconnections.
As far as the stories, my favorite was the one involving the president's daughter. While I enjoy the connection with The Disappearing of Three Forks, these stories can be enjoyed on their own. If you enjoy cosmic/supernatural horror stories, be sure to get your hands on this one.

A compendium of short stories filled with cosmic horror, mystery, and suspense that had me wanting to learn more about the world. I've found that this book can be read as a standalone, while also providing more information into Silas Swords past.
This is definitely a book for those who enjoyed The Disappearing of Three Forks, and for those who just want to delve into four spine chilling cosmic horror stories.

Wow, what a unique and compelling collection of short stories. I was lucky to be an advance reader, a position I felt privileged to be in. K.L. Patrick manages to convey so much tension and discomfort for the characters involved in what can only be described as unsettling circumstances.

*No Spoilers* Marked was an absolute fantastic read. I was on the edge of my seat in suspense with each story in the book. So much great character growth, K.L. Patrick has delivered yet another wonderful book!
