A minor improvement over the first book, while I would still give it a 7/10, this one is a stronger 7. This book has a bit of a rough start, but it doesn't take long for it doesn't take long for it to pick up and improve a fair bit.

This book has far less combat than the previous book, even when taking into account the shorter length, but it has much more crafting. Which I consider to be an improvement. This series still has the best crafting on anything I've read by a large margin.

Vivi is still an enjoyable character, even though she can be really difficult and annoying at times. There is a difference between a character being annoying because they are poorly written and annoying because they are well written, and Vivi is definitely on the latter side of that scale.

Lucius however is in the direct center of that scale. While he is a lot less tedious in this book that he still has a lot of problems.

The side characters of this book are also a minor step up in quality. Although the fact that nearly everyone dismissed Vivi just because she was a girl started to get grating by the midpoint of the book. She may be a 17 year old girl, but when she has already proved herself several times over you would think that at least one person wouldn't dismiss her out of hand, or at least not openly doubt and insult her. This is especially annoying when there are groups of people that have young women that are accepted members of their group.

What an Epilogue!

The second book neatly tied up most of the loose ends of the story. I could see it being the end of the series but then the epilogue comes in with a BANG! Making me sad that the next book isn’t out yet but now I’m pumped!!

Is Lucas (or his sister?) a love interest for our MC? What’s going on with the King of Demons (iirc) and Lucius? Storm season? So excited!!

P.S. I absolutely LOVE the outsider POV for the epilogue. It’s the first time I’m seeing it and perfectly helps expand our worldview and is so cinematic!

Mix of crafting and combat

I started reading this series when it was only available on Royal Road or on Patreon. I’m glad to see it doing well on Kindle and can’t wait to read the next one. This author really improved on their initial attempt at the story and genuinely proud. I definitely like the crafting aspect of this story as it provides a break from the constant combat often seen in other series, which is also enjoyable, but nice to have a break.

A refreshing page turner

Great sequel. Vivi finally gets to show off why she’s the best rune smith around. Its great to see her have a chance to breathe before everything hits the fan. Cant wait for the next book.

Even better than the First Book

This was a delight to read. While the world building is great in both books, the story really seemed to take off in this one. I am very eagerly awaiting the next installment!

I'm struggling with this volume. I loved volume 1, ( and left a positive review there). However, here, I got about 3/4 the way through, and got to a point, where I can just see that she's making, what I consider to be a HUGE mistake. and I'm stuck. I haven't picked it up since. I want to... I really do.

I finally finished it. Wish I hadn't. While the main story finished fine, without any of the horror I was dreading (almost), it was the epilogue that now has me bothered. That world is a very dark place.
