At no point did I know where this was going. Why was he German? Why were there tentacles? Where did this fever dream of a book come from? Ultimately not for me, but don’t let that stop you. 🤷🏻♀️
When I picked up this book I thought it was going to be another silly read like most sentient object romances, but it ended up being so much more. I laughed. I cried. I felt for the FMC. At the end I just wanted to drive right into book two to learn WTH was happening. I also loved that there was a recipe for croissants at the end. This book had me hooked and I hope anyone reading this review has a great time like I did
I will loudly announce this book ABSOLUTELY hit the spot for me. It sounds like a bit of a wacky premise, but there are LAYERS here. Sex-ay monsters. Mythology. Worldbuilding of the best kind. In other words, I picked this up for a sentient stand mixer finding some romance and ended up going all in on Abby, her monster-man, and whatever is in store for them next. (I've already read book 2 and Eeeeeeeeee. YES! ABBY HAS IT GOING ON!)
So. Abby loves what she does, but she's also skating the line on being overwhelmed while running a bakery that is...it's not struggling exactly, but it is a small business and it's one major appliance failure away from going in the red. So when her mixer fails just before a big order is coming up, Abby sends a wish out into the universe.
And something answers that wish.
Her new mixer is gorgeous, shiny, and speaks with a German accent. Mischen is also terribly lonely and Abby sparks all kinds of things in him he didn't think he'd ever experience again.
On Abby's end, she's pretty accepting of her new stand mixer getting a little frisky with her. Because why not? She's not in any sort of relationship (despite that almost-kiss with her boss) and Mischen is very giving. Very.Giving. Soon the two are bonding, she's getting borderline-menacing visits from the Council (who are so mysterious it's terrifying), and Abby might just realize she's far more than she ever believed she was.
In other words, this series is firmly in the realm of OHHHHH YEAH BRING IT ON!
wtf? Why did I love this book so gd much! It was hilarious. The inner dialogues were some of my favorite parts like when the lady wanted a refund on a cinnamon roll that she consumed 96% of, and Howard the Duck and of course Edgar Allen Dough …. I hope the next one is just as good.
You had me at tentacle intimacy. Started ironically, stayed for the surprisingly compelling mythology, finished it emotionally invested in a sentient appliance.
I did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did! Abby is delightful. We get it girl and we are so glad you are getting it too. IYKYK. But it’s the mystery that is truly keeping my attention. Exceptional storytelling!
I went looking for one thing and somehow got emotionally whisked into oblivion by a MONSTER STAND MIXER.
Yes. A mixer. With tentacles. I saw that and said “add to cart immediately, no further questions, your honour.”
From page one this book grabbed me by the frontal lobe and said “we’re doing chaos now” and I simply never recovered.
We’ve got: • sentient-but-not-sentient vibes • shifter-but-not-really-shifter energy • ley lines humming in the background like a demonic KitchenAid soundtrack • lore that is SO detailed and yet somehow I still feel like I know nothing and everything at the same time
And then there’s Abby. Sweet, adaptable, go-with-the-flow Abby who looks at this… eldritch countertop entity with MULTIPLE APPENDAGES and goes:
“yeah alright, this is my life now.”
Ma’am???? The emotional flexibility??? Olympic level.
Every chapter felt like spinning the “what fresh nonsense is this” wheel and landing on something even more unhinged than before. I was not reading this book. This book was happening TO me.
And just when I thought we were done being feral about it… BAM.
End of book: Lore bomb dropped New package introduced (??? HELLO???) My reverse harem loving heart sat up like it heard a dinner bell
AND THEN. A CLIFFHANGER.
You KNOW how I feel about cliffhangers. I was pacing. I was staring into the void. The void was holding a whisk attachment.
Will I read the next one?
Unfortunately yes. I need answers. I need chaos. I need to know what that appliance is planning next.
Found this book on tiktok and it became such a joke with friends that I had to read it. It’s for the bit. Moving on.
In a normal non-monster romantasy, this magic system and lore would hit so hard. Like I’m angry that it is the romance it is because I want to read this but not like this.
My first and only monster romance. The bit is now finished. Also I do not like tentacles in my romance. Let’s all forget you saw this review on your Goodreads homepage.
The spelling mistakes and missing words in this book 🤯 The constant talk about Edgar the sour dough starter, Zane who we actually know nothing about, and the constant trails off in the book that are not needed. DNF!
Overuse of the word AND. You have been warned before you read this 💀🙈
I legitimately started reading this because it looked like the most ridiculous thing I could ever read. But the plot is actually more than decent, the writing is absolutely excellent, and I loved reading it. I'm excited for the next books!
This book has absolutely no business getting this many stars based on the title and cover art but it has more plot than you’d think. It’s a quick funny read with a little weird spice.
Well???? I'm not sure what it says about me but.....i loved this!!! So fun and quirky. Yes it's sexy time with a stand mixer... don't judge just read it 🤣🤣🤣🌶🌶🌶
My buddy sent this to me a few days ago with a cheeky lil “for your TBR” and we had a good giggle because seriously, this book looks insane. But since I’m a certified equal opportunity reader I said “Eh let’s try it, can’t be worse than lint monsters or balloon animals or doors!”
Friends…I am DELIGHTED by this book. I wasn’t expecting PLOT! But not only did I get plot, I got a GOOD plot! I got something that was absurd and ridiculous and actually so wonderful and I’m genuinely disappointed I have to wait for the rest of the series to come out because I would have binged all 5 books immediately if they were out yet 😂 I am enthralled with what exactly is going to happen, what Zane has built, what kind of shenanigans are in store, who the Flour Council is, and so much more. I need someone to do character art for Mischen because my brain actually couldn’t compute him but I loved him anyways. Krista LaRae crushed this debut novel, and I’m immediately adding her to my “I need a dose of whimsy” author list because this was just so fun to experience.
Honestly I was giggling most of the time reading this 😂 I thought it was mostly going to be smut and non sense but it actually had an interesting plot and I am super curious to see where this goes! Also loved mischen he was asking for permission and consent and it was really adorable.
I can't believe I'm saying this but this almost feels like it has a bit to much plot...im used to sentient object books being short hilarious and to the point...still very interested to see where the author is going with this
Let’s be honest for a second. Did I read this because of the completely insane premise? Absolutely.
And somehow… I actually enjoyed it.
Creamed by My Monster Stand Mixer is exactly what the title promises: a wildly absurd paranormal monster romance about a lonely Portland baker who accidentally summons a sentient supernatural stand mixer with tentacles. If that sentence either horrifies or intrigues you, congratulations, you already know whether this book is for you.
What surprised me most is that the story works for more than just shock value. Yes, it is ridiculous. Yes, it is completely unhinged. But it is also genuinely fun in a way that only books fully committed to their own chaos can be. This novella understands exactly what it is trying to do and never once backs away from the bit.
And honestly? Respect.
The pacing is quick and efficient, which is exactly what a book like this needs. This is not some deep literary exploration of the human condition… if you get what I’m saying. The novella flies by, never overstays its welcome, and delivers exactly the experience readers are signing up for. Character work is understandably secondary to the premise, but there is enough chemistry and weird charm here to keep the story entertaining. Also, and I cannot believe this is something I’m seriously typing, the monster stand mixer consistently asks for consent, which honestly deserves points in the monster romance category.
The prose itself fully embraces the absurdity. Krista LaRae commits to the concept with complete sincerity, and somehow that commitment makes the entire thing work better. The fact that this book has sequels honestly tells you everything you need to know. There is clearly an audience for this kind of chaotic paranormal romance, and I completely understand why monster romance readers would have fun with it.
Character Work: 3.0 Weirdly charming, with consent-conscious monster romance energy.
Pacing: 4.0 Fast, easy, and exactly as long as this premise needs.
Prose & Style: 4.0 Full commitment to the absurdity makes the whole thing work.
Emotional Impact: 3.0 More of an experience than a recommendation… but definitely memorable.
⭐ Final Rating Average: 3.5 → 3.5 stars Final Thoughts Sometimes reading is about expanding your horizons. Sometimes it’s about emotional growth. And sometimes it’s about reading a romance novella involving a sentient tentacle stand mixer because the internet has gone too far. Honestly? I’ve read worse.
Im sorry what?? 😭😭 I was tasked with reading this book for book club and what the hell?? 😭 I had a very different idea of what this book was before I went in. This is a magical realism monster appliance romance book??!?!?!?? This is NOT a standalone and it is NOT making much sense as of right now. Unfortunately, because this book does appear to have a magical realism monster appliance plot, it means I would need to read all 5 books to i guess understand what the hell is happening and to finish this series and to be honest… I don’t think I want that right now.
So let’s get onto the writing. It was basic. It was an easy read, basic conversations that did have me giving side eyes at times, but nothing crazy. The spice was confusing. I still don’t know how she fucked the mixer. I mean… I understand the things he did, it was in english and they described it in plain terms, but I still cannot visualize this humanoid (?) mixer. Honestly, I was invested in learning about this owner of the shop, but mans left after almost kissing her and was never hear of again (he made cameos, just not in person). I mean, overall it was just confusing and despite it being short, it felt like the longest book of my life.
I truly wish I could understand more about HOW she got so damn emotionally invested in a fucking appliance in basically a day or two. She was immediately protective and locked in. And I know some people might say “Ismar it’s not that serious, it’s fiction and meant to be fun and sexy” WHICH I GET!! But it also seems like it is meant to have serious plot so if it doesssss then I want to be able to back homegirl uppp but she is so damn desperate and locked in with this thing it i cannot believe herrrr! 🤣😭 It definitely made me crack tf up at times and I don’t know if i was meant toooo.
Anyway, I may maybe at some point read more, but right now, not my focus.
It was chaotic, bizarre, surprisingly detailed, and fully committed to the bit from start to finish.
The story follows Abby Dixon, whose bakery and life are falling apart. After signing a mysterious waiver and accepting a replacement stand mixer, she discovers the appliance is alive and tied to a supernatural world involving magic, tentacles, and ancient bonds.
Alongside the monster mixer, there’s also a broody human boss, Zane, creating a why-choose/reverse-harem setup for the series.
I went into this expecting ridiculous monster romance energy, and it absolutely delivered that. Sentient kitchen appliances, accidental magic, supernatural bonding, possessive monster lovers… this book does not hold back.
There were moments that genuinely made me laugh because of how absurd the premise was.
The spice is very open-door, the vibes are chaotic cozy bakery fantasy, and if you love a sentient monster romance that leans completely into the madness, this could absolutely work for you.
For me though? I’m still undecided on whether I’ll continue the series.
🏷 Bookstagram • Creamed By My Monster Stand Mixer • Krista Larae • Sentient Object • Monster Romance
I am angry! Cliffhangers should be prohibited from all books! GAH! Nonetheless, Creamed by my Monster Stand Mixer by Krista Larae (A Kitchen Monster Romance Book 1) was a strong four-star sentient object book! My attention was captured for every single page, and when I got to the end of the book, I was angry! Where is the rest of the book?! Of course, naturally, it’s a series, and it picks up in book two, but come on! Larae did us dirty like that! Spoiler(ish) alert: What happens with Zane? What about Mischen? And for all that is sacred in sentient object smut books, what about my precious Abby?! Nonetheless, I read a lot of sentient-object romance books; in fact, I deliberately search for them, as they are my favorite. This is the longest one I’ve read, and it had all that we needed as readers: humor, romance, obscurity, mystery, and fantasy. I did find some areas confusing and timelines inconsistent, but it could be revealed in book two. Nonetheless, that is the reason the star is missing, but I did really enjoy the book, especially the very witty writing!
In my friend group, I have become the official reader of weird smut. Hence how I ended up here. That being said, this wasn’t as weird as I expected. Yes there is a sentient mixer. Yes they do have sex. But it’s not like she is sitting on it grinding while it mixes or shoving paddles into herself (mostly). I would classify it more into the scifi/paranormal genre. Krisya LaRae is an excellent writter and painted a great picture. That being said, tenticles and reverse harem are not my jam. Not yucking anyones yum, just not my vide. Also not a cliffhanger gal either. I know many people love those things and if so I highly encourage this book. It’s very well written and I enjoyed WAY more than I expected. With all that though, I don’t know that I will read book two. I will however definitely look for more by Krista LaRae
Abby Dixon has never found love. Not genuine love, anyways. She works at a bakery, feeding hungry customers and living a boring, mundane life. But one night, out of desperation, she voices her wish aloud: to find love and make her life not so boring.
Her wish is answered when a box shows up at the bakery's doorstep. However, this box is vibrating, moving, and giving both her and her coworker odd vibes. Unable to withstand her curiosity, she opens it a few days later, and what she finds inside changes her whole life...for the better? | This was short, but very entertaining. I found myself laughing quietly a handful of times, and a lot of highlighted quotes. The mystery behind the mixer and who her employer really is drew me in, and I think I'll be continuing the series when I need something lighthearted and to laugh!
Creamed by my monster stand Mixer #1 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🌶️ This got me pulled in quickly, I love a good sentient romance and this really threw me for a loop, not only did we get a sentient romance I was not expecting a deep plot, and boy was I wrong. There is a whole magical past life underbelly to this story and tentacles! I should have known but the cover but honestly I just dove straight in from the title, I did not pay mind to the cover details until later. I did not read much about the series so I was not even aware it was a series, but each book focuses on another connection required for the undying larger plot at hand It’s a wild ride, and it’s fun. Theres a whole world built around and dependent on the sentient romance that you can not help but devour the book and see how the bonds grow and mature as more bonds join.
I was prepared to hate this. I really was. I make a habit of reading KU books that are.. of a certain questionable degree. A friend sent this to me to read so she didn’t have to. Now I’m recommending she actually read it. It’s written in a way that the author knows it’s silly - and instead of masquerading as serious they lean into it with an elite vocabulary and sense of humor. I’ll be reading the rest of the series. Am I a glutton for punishment? Yes. Am I also a glutton for books that while being ridiculous are also somehow touching and amusing and even interesting? Yes.
The author also writes with a degree of Voice that is similar to my own internal dialogue, and I appreciate that, what that says about either of us I’d rather not explore.
