I won the trials. I claimed the power I needed. And paid for it with my blood and my heart.

Finally, I am the Ezkai General now.

Bound by ancient laws, feared by enemies across the sea, and haunted by the love I was forced to kill to claim my crown.

Yet winning wasn’t enough.

When I claimed the seat of power, I won another enemy. One worse than death.

My government and military watch my every move.

The new enemy whispers rebellion in the shadows.

And my closest allies are gone. One claimed by the enemy, the other bound in chains.

To secure my rule, I must do the bond a dragon, punish those who dared betray me, and find a way to free a man condemned for an unforgivable crime before my seat of power crumbles.

Lost Prince is the third book in the Trials of Death & Honor series, a seductive dark fantasy romance saga of broken loyalties, brutal fae, and a woman learning that becoming a monster may be the only way to win.

I must preface I absolutely LOVED book 1 and 2. But this one felt like unnecessary filler? We go from one ritual to the next. Scene to scene. No real connection bridging everything together. Just moving through the motions so quickly nothing really feels important.

The plot, what plot? We allegedly have enemies around every corner and we spend the whole book winning over one socialite that parties and does drugs and then we go off, leave our post (that we just won) to walk through the woods looking for a dragon. The urgency just completely disintegrated. There was none.

We get our tromp through the woods to get those "one bed" and "forced proximity" tropes. And don't get me started on how we managed to swing in the telepathic shit that came in out of left field. It just was too trope filled and for all the wrong reasons.

Our FMC is apparently heartbroken because she killed a man she loves, but we don't really see that because she's just salivating over Jax the whole time. We just lost a lot of potential relationship development because it turned to lust rather than emotions (and I was ROOTING for them in book 2) but I just wasn't vibing with the direction of the relationship in this book. It felt forced instead of organic. Espcially because Jax is such an organic character as is, it's like he was put in a box to hit the tropes.

All in all, I was just bored. And when I say I LOVED book 1 and 2 I mean it. Those were some of my favorite reads in the last year. This one was just a let down for a vast majority of it. Everything happened riggggghhhht at the end (literally the last ~15% maybe less) and for a 440 page book, I'd just want more happening in the beginning and middle, rather than leaving it all for the end.

What was that ending???? Everything I knew is turned upside down. What was it all for?

I finished this book (or maybe it finished me) several days ago and needed a moment to collect my thoughts. And find my kindle after I tossed it out the window. Because what the seriously?

I devoured the first two books and the second nearly broke my heart. Lost Prince is the third book, and it felt very different than the other two. Where the first two were action-heavy, spice-heavy, and the stakes were always sky high. Ok the third one was definitely here. The aspects of what made the first two books so awesome were still here: revenge quest, high stakes, stubborn stabby FMC who is trying to grow and must overcome her own blocks, banter for days. What was missing: the fast action and events or trials.

This book was moodier, sadder - and of course it was. Phoenix is grieving and feeling completely buried in guilt for what she had to do to win the trials and become the General. With Vera missing, being kept who knows where by the criminal organization she just pissed off, being tortured for information, rescuing her is a must! Jax being arrested for being the General Slayer and definitely facing execution, another source of anguish for our FMC. This book wasn't just a stepping stone to achieving her goals as much as it was keeping her head, trying not to lose her position (and life) and desperately needing to protect her friends.

The romance subplot was, understandably, less sizzling. She's too broken to allow herself to fall again, at least not yet. But the banter is bantering and Jax is a flirty devil as usual. Which is why I feel like I missed something - when did Jax fall for Nix? Do I need to re-read something in Blood Queen? I follow where Phoenix starts to feel something for him and continually rejects her own feelings, but Jax kind of surprised me. I'm also a sucker for the he holds her in their shared sleeping space because it's cold trope.

The ritualistic things involved in General life were.. something. The things required of Generals in their serving for life are tough but understandable in a fae society. But it was heavy on court politics, playing games to convince people to vote your way, etc. I enjoyed the method of mission get Jax out of jail, and that was an important catalyst for both of them. Their deepened connection and Phoenix finally relying on someone other than herself and admitting to needing someone's help (after all the obnoxious I don't need yous) was such growth for her!

The plot and pacing, that's kind of where I struggle with this book. It felt a bit more filler than I wanted. I wanted more of the vibes of the first two books, and this book plot was mostly save Vera and the drive to bond a dragon (because for some reason only bonding a dragon would make Phoenix able to meet her goals, if you say so girlie). Ok let's talk about the dragon bonding plot. I really appreciated the struggle and the slow burn dragon journey. Salty Scaly Lady was putting Phoenix through some self reflection let me tell you. Everything in this series has been earned through grit, blood, and tears, or not at all.

Then we get to the ending. And Ms. author girly you better make this right in the final book! Because one thing that irks me is when something happens to throw you back to square one. Like what was it all for? The specific event and revenge quest that has been driving Phoenix's actions across all the books. The loves and losses, so many losses, the fighting, proving, meditating, turning herself inside out to achieve everything. All of it was for a singular purpose. Then that ending just slapped me silly. Please explain! I need to knowwww! This one seriously made me want to throw my book. And I almost threw my book when Vera... no spoilers!

I enjoyed the multiple POVs (but need way more Jax) and the other bombshell dropped in the book (ok there were several). Curious how that one will play out. But it left me the wrong kind of feral at the end, and that's not the vibe I was seeking. I need resolution from my Traumantasy. Must wait for book 4.

Tropes:

Revenge quest
Rescue quest
Dragon quest
Bonds
One tent
Undying devotion
Secret identity
Family secrets
Court politics
Grief and Guilt

Thanks to the author’s team for providing this ARC for review. I'm so excited to have been on the ARC team since reading the first book! I can't wait for book 4!

Wow. What a story. Book three in The Trials of Death and Honor does not disappoint. It is a true reader’s delight, with superb characters—yes, even Phoenix, with all her anger, stubbornness, and occasional whining—moving through a dangerous world.

Possible spoilers ahead.

The banter, obvious longing, and deep love between Jax and Phoenix are impossible to miss, even if it has not yet been fully acknowledged on a higher plane. I cannot wait to read the final installment.

Just as with the book before this one, I couldn't have guessed at the direction this one was going to take. I will also be honest and say I thought this was the final book of a trilogy when I started reading it. It's not. It's 3 of 4 books.

What I had been hoping for: Phoenix + Jax and some political badassery

What I got instead:
- A very cool plot twist with Phoenix + Jax (though no real spice)
- An epic journey for Phoenix with some side characters peppered in
- Some dragons (which was totally unexpected for me, maybe I missed the hints in book 2?)
- Some political badassery
- A hell of a cliffhanger (that's nothing new in this series though!)

I can't wait for book 4.

Huge thanks to Karolina Wilde for the eARC of this book. This review reflects my honest opinions.

I'll leave you with a favorite quote:

I thought being the Ezkai General, having the power I lacked, would give me control. But I’ve never felt so out of control in my whole damn life. It’s like sand between my fingers, slipping away no matter how hard I clutch.

What was that ending?!

No, seriously, what was that ending?

I'm with Nix, what the heck, and what was it all for? I honestly can’t imagine where this series can go where I don’t hate these people. There isn’t an explanation in the world that can explain away things.

Now, I do want to preface that I did enjoy this book. I liked this one as equally as I liked the first. I just feel like, given the events of the second and given the events of this, there was just no urgency. It felt a lot like a filler book, nothing really happened outside of the last, I wanna say maybe the last 15%, which is fine, because what we got prior was good, I enjoyed it, but we’re book three now, and we have Vera being tortured, Jax is in jail for killing the general, and we’re meditating and looking for dragons. We’re supposed to have enemies behind every door and this big plot to get rid of Nix/the last general and it just felt very backseat.

My problem with the last book, and that decision (which I'm still not over) is the same in this book; things happen without any actual textual clues, which is where I feel these books fall off, because these big events happen, but there’s no true lead-up, there’s no true hint of anything happening, which sometimes can work, but othertime’s it just, for me personally make the big events feel dropped in for shock value vs actual plot telling.

Now I knew we were going to get a betrayal, it was obvious, but not because of anything done or said in the book, but just based on how stuff like this goes, there’s always a betrayal, I did think it was going to be someone else, and I think the reveal could have landed a lot stronger if there was hints, hushed voersations, or someone seeing someone somewhere they shouldn’t be, and Nix brushing it of, and I think it would have worked, and really shown her inexperience in the role she fought so hard for.

Now, as I said, I did enjoy this read, even though it might sound like I didn’t. I think the characters’ voices are really coming through, like they are finding their own (and I’m so glad that we get character pov headers now), I can tell what pov we’re in without checking the headers.

I think if there was more time between the 1st book and the third I’d find Nix and her stagnant character development to be bothersome, but especially between the second and third there is still so little time passed, I can forgive her for stilling being the hot head that she is, but come on girl, you gotta start learning to stop and smell the roses, and think things through for once.

Jax was the real standout in this book, honestly. I really disliked him in the second, and not only because it was obvious where his character development was going to go, he was just grating. I find myself endearing to him a lot more in this book, learning more about him, and his connection to Nix was some of my favourite parts. It’s also, I suppose, a lesson in how we’ve all be so instilled in loving the red flag when the green one is right there.

I’d have loved more emotional impact, and it was touched on, and we did get it, but it felt very quickly done, nothing that lingered.

Another thing I am loving is Nix and her growth; she is learning, she is growing as a person, and I think this thin line she’s walking is really well done. She’s on a path of becoming the very thing that she’s hated and wanted this position of power for. Learning, although slowly, that this isn’t a path that she can take alone, and asking for help is not a weakness.

So yea, it was a mixed bag of things I loved, and things that I would have loved more on.

I swear, though, if you take Jax now, he’s grown on me, the way you took Daegel, ima be so mad and so sad. I can’t go through it again.

Lost Prince by Karolina Wilde is a breathtaking dark fantasy romance that earned every single star for me. This is the third book in the Trials of Death & Honor series, and reading it as part of the full saga made the emotional payoff hit even harder. The protagonist has finally become the Ezkai General after winning the trials and claiming the power she needed, but she paid for it with her blood and her heart.
The story is built around broken loyalties, brutal fae, and a woman learning that becoming a monster may be the only way to win. When she claimed the seat of power, she won another enemy, one worse than death. Her government and military watch her every move, rebellion whispers in the shadows, and her closest allies are gone—one claimed by the enemy, the other bound in chains.
What made this a five-star read for me was how intensely the protagonist is forced to navigate her role. She must do the bond a dragon, punish those who dared betray her, and find a way to free a man condemned for an unforgivable crime before her seat of power crumbles. The stakes are brutal, the tension is relentless, and the emotional depth is extraordinary.
Wilde writes with a dark, sharp voice that doesn't shy away from the darkness these characters bring with them. The relationships shift in ways that feel earned, the motivations deepen, and the choices carry real weight. The forbidden desire and obsession between characters is electric, and the dark fantasy elements are mesmerizing.
Overall, Lost Prince is a standout dark fantasy romance that delivers on intensity, complexity, and a story that keeps you guessing. It's perfect for readers who love morally gray characters, brutal settings, and relationships built on obsession and forbidden desire. This is one of my favorite dark fantasy reads of the year, and I can't recommend it enough. 🖤📚

First and foremost, thank you a thousand times to the wonderful author, whom I am a big fan of, for sharing an ARC of this book with me !!

“I’m supposed to be the most powerfully person in Ekios, and yet … I’ve never felt this powerless”

“She’s mine to protect. And I’ll stop at nothing to carry out my duty”

“The problem is you’d rather break alone than let anyone stand with you”

We saw her fight. We saw her struggle. We saw her rise. We saw her betrayed. We saw her fall. And know we see her reign. A whole new balance has to be established and as Phoenix is getting a grasp of her power, she is also dealing with the aftermath of Daegel and the loss of people so dear to her. This book was a triumph of emotions, nostalgia, revenge and growth. It was finding hope when you thought it lost, and love bonds born by life or death situations. It’s learning to rely after being broken. It’s dragons, it’s political intrigue and romance. It doesn’t have the spice the first two books have. But I fell that if you have faith … book four will be the best comeback ever !!! I loved how the plot thickens this time around and I loved growing alongside Phoenix. I loved the plot twists in this instalment and the depth of the characters’ dynamics. I had missed them and it felt only so right being back with them!!! I cried myself some ugly tears and I honestly would never change that !!! And Jax … he is gonna bring me so much satisfaction I know I’ll love him till my dying breath !!! This book is not out yet but after that ending … I need book four YESTERDAY !!!!

“There’s no world or scenario in which it doesn’t end in a tragedy”

“I don’t feel.
I don’t think.
I simply am.
A steady mountain”

“If being ruined by you is the only way to have you, I’ll take my chances gladly”

“What remains after the fire is the only truth worth knowing”

With just as much chaos, romance that sucks you in, and of course even more plot twists and reveals, this book was a great next step in the series and I cannot wait to see what happens next after that cliffhanger!!

You pickup right where the last book left off, with Phoenix now the general and her closest friends in prison or missing. She must race against the clock to rescue Vera and find a way to set Fin free before the nobles start to demand his head, all while still trying to get her vengeance. In a world where she’s not sure who to trust, she must make alliances and ends up in a bond with Fin, that ties his life to hers and he is a sacrifice is she is ever close to death, but it also ends up becoming more and now they can hear inside each others heads. All the while Vera is being tortured for information on her network that’s been saving children and others like her, but she refuses to cave.

I really enjoyed the 3 points of view and seeing what was happening in Vera’s world while Fin and Nix ended up slowly getting closer as they dealt with the bond. There were many dark themes with her torture and also all the Phoenix is going through mentally but both were so strong throughout the book and I can’t wait to see them reunited. I also enjoyed seeing how much Fin would do for Phoenix and while he may think he doesn’t deserve her, I do hope he ends up happy at the end of all this. I cannot wait to see how that last scene unfolds in the next book, especially after the recent reveal and betrayals. My rating 4.7/5!

Lost Prince is the third book in the Trials Of Death And Honor series. I'm really enjoying this series so far, especially the latest installment Lost Prince. I love how the author grips your attention from the very first page and doesn't let you go until the end. I love the author's writing style and the pacing is just right. Also there was a great cast of characters. Fans of dark romancy novels will love it. I highly recommend it and I look forward to reading more by the author.

This author continues to deliver with this incredible dark fantasy saga, and the third installment was no exception. The corruption runs deep, and even after suffering loss after loss and being forced to make some absolutely soul crushing decisions, Phoenix keeps pushing forward as the badass bitch we all want her to be.

Phoenix continues down a dark path fueled by revenge, and nothing seems capable of stopping her. But as her power grows, she realizes her freedom to make her own choices is slipping away. Now the General leading an army of elite soilders, she has to navigate political games while fighting to save her friends and expose corruption that reaches far deeper than she ever imagined.

The betrayals will shake you, but the yearning is so delicious, I'm 1000% a Jax girlie. Somehow this ending leaves us with an even bigger cliffhanger than the last. What do you mean all of this could have been avoided?! Girl... I was absolutely screaming.

Once again this series has left me staring at the ceiling wondering how I'm supposed to wait for the next book. If you're not reading this series yet, you seriously need to pick it up. The fourth and final book releases in November, so now is the perfect time to catch up and suffer alongside the rest of us.

Having read the first two books in the series, I was really excited to jump into Lost Prince, and it definitely didn't disappoint. I'd give it 4 stars overall.

One of my favourite parts was getting to spend more time with the characters I've already grown attached to. Watching the dynamic between Fallon and Lorcan continue to evolve kept me hooked, and I also loved seeing more of the supporting cast and how everyone’s loyalties and personalities developed throughout the story.

The mix of fantasy, romance, and political intrigue made it hard to put down, and there were plenty of moments that had me wondering what would happen next. Karolina Wilde does a great job of building tension while still giving the characters room to shine.

The only reason it wasn't quite a 5-star read for me is that a few sections felt a little slower than others, and I would have loved even more time with some of the side characters. But overall, it was an enjoyable and emotional read.

If you've already started this world, I think you'll really enjoy this instalment. It expands on the story in satisfying ways without losing the character moments that made me fall in love with the series in the first place.

Thankyou to Karolina Wilde & team & Book funnel for this e-Arc!

I finished Lost Prince by Karolina Wilde last night, and the ending had me like...

WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. F***?! 😳👀

This is becoming a trend, Karolina.

Everything I thought I understood up to that moment was immediately thrown into a spiral. Theories? Gone. Confidence? Shattered. Trust? Nonexistent.

I am wholeheartedly Team Jax, and I absolutely did not see that connection twist coming. Meanwhile, Phoenix remains her wonderfully spicy, bull-headed self (which is exactly why we love her). She gets swept up in her desire for power, and with a blood debt hanging in limbo and someone important missing, I can't even blame her.

Can we also talk about getting Vera's POV? THANK YOU. 🙌 I was so happy to spend more time in her head and see events from her perspective.

And the dragon situation...Perfect.
As readers, we don't always get everything we want, and that's probably for the best, otherwise we'd get complacent. 😂

The books in this series just keep getting better and better. Based on the little we know about the title of Book 4, I am already hyperventilating for the finale.

⚠️ This book includes torture scenes, but I thought it was handled well and served the story.

This book pretty much picks up right where Blood Princess left off. I really enjoyed seeing Phoenix settle into her new role as the Ezkai General. Watching her navigate the weight of leadership, enemies on every side, and everything she's sacrificed to get there made for a really engaging continuation of this series.
Vera's POV was gruesome and made me super sad. I was unsure if I was going to be able to stomach some of the torture scenes.

Jax continues to be the comic relief, and surprisingly, some of my favorite moments were between him and Phoenix as they figure out what this new connection and relationship mean after everything that's happened.

I loved seeing the story continue to expand with the rebellion brewing in the background and all the political tension surrounding Phoenix's rule. It kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next.

I loved the end of this book. As usual, the cliffhanger was absolutely insane. I literally never see the twists coming at the end of Karolina Wilde's books. Every single time she completely blows my mind.

I picked this one up and was immediately pulled back into the world as if I had just finished reading book two, Blood Queen.

Lost Prince has multiple POVs, and I loved getting inside Jax’s and Vera’s heads and getting to see their thoughts. Vera’s POV is a little dark, but I enjoyed learning more about her and getting a better understanding of who she is. Jax brings a lot of comic relief, as always, which I loved.

Phoenix is as fiesty and headstrong as ever, and in this part of this story, it isn’t always a positive for her. But she grows a lot because of her choices and actions here, which is exactly what she needs to become the Ezkai General she’s meant to be. And it pays off, because DRAGON!

I absolutely need the next book ASAP after the bombshell dropped at the end of this one! It completely changed literally everything I thought would happen or wanted to happen as this story continues.

Definitely check out this series!

This was a darker book with a lot of court politics. Phoenix is dealing with the aftermath of the trials, becoming the Ezkai general and losing two of her closest allies. She sets off in the hopes of bonding a dragon to solidify her claim and power. What I loved was more of Jax from his POV, he’s definitely more than his charming exterior. That ending had me on the edge of my seat!

While it felt a little like a filler book at times, leaving me wanting more since we were teased with dragons in book two and there wasn’t much of them in Lost Prince, I’m also glad it’s not over yet. Can’t wait for Savage King!

Karolina Wilde you are the queen of cliffhangers!

How am I going to wait for the final book in the The Trials of Death and Honor l?!

That ending had me sitting for a fair few minutes with my mouth wide open (husband said I was catching flies 😅) just trying to get my head around it.

My favourite bit of Lost prince, in one word Jax.
His one liners are epic and the tension between him and Phoenix is just like pulling an endless bit of melted cheese- super satisfying!

I cannot wait to find out what Phoenix will do after that insane conundrum at the end!

Unsure if I will finish this series. There is so much time spent in the FMC’s head space. Her character development is so limited despite the growth that her mentor in the book says she has. Lots of "self work" that didn't really seem to come into any sort of resolution. The growth of the FMC is still limited. She is chaotic/stubborn/angry/self reliant in a destructive way. She is betrayed.

The love interest is rushed. For her to be still be grieving and claiming in the beginning of the book how bad she misses him and then this other interest blossoms….it was too quick for my taste.

She faces her biggest shock yet.

It’s a maybe for me.

What was that ending? I did not see that coming at all! It changes a lot for the FMC and don’t quite know how she will react to it. And then Vera 🤯!

I absolutely loved the first two books but this felt a little different. I still really enjoyed it though. It Phoenix was grieving and trying to navigate her new role and power. She wasn’t fighting for a position with trials, her friend was missing and she was looking to bond with a dragon. I’m not sure how I feel about this Jax thing. I don’t want to say it was a filler book but it was not as action heavy.

I’m looking forward to seeing how this concludes in book 4.

Thank you to the author for the arc.

Lost Prince is book 3 in the Trials of Death and Honor series. It picks up shortly after the shenanigans at the end of book 2. This one is a little slower, but everything is necessary to the story and things are starting to really come together. Phoenix is determined to help Vera and willing to take a huge risk to do so. Sweet Vera is such a strong survivor, her loyalty runs so deep. There's finally some good backstory on Jax and I'm interested to learn more about his family. That ending? With and ending like that, book 4 is sure to be incredible!

What?!? NOOO you evil author you! You CANNOT stop it there!!! Evil evil plotting scheming story Weaver. November cannot come soon enough!

Alright, that's my immediate reaction. I have absolutely LOVED this series. It's dark, dangerous, brutal, but with an incredible FMC who refuses to go down. The secondary characters are just as amazing and fully fleshed. The imagery is perfect. The banter is divine. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

If you like dark romantasy or fantasy romance, because I'm not quite sure which it is right now, you simply must read this series!

OMG!!! Karolina has not failed to end each book in this series with a WTF moment and I am totally here for it... do I want more? YES... do i want it now? Also YES! I'm waiting desperately for other readers to finish so I can freak out 😭

I'm so glad the series hasn't finished I'm hoping for atleast 2 more books 🤗 I'm just not ready for the story to be over, but if there is one thing I can say that, after reading this series I will be a life long fan of Karolina Wilde. I can't wait to see what she has in store for us in the future, because i will be there waiting in line to grab a copy.

There is no need to hesitate, you don't want to miss out on this book.

I did really like this book like I did the rest of the series! My only thing was that a lot of this book specifically felt like filler and only the last bit was super crazy and twisty. I am so curious how the series is going to end now though, because what a turn!

Like it says at the end, then what was this all for!?!?!

Thanks to Karolina Wilde for the ARC of Lost Prince.

I enjoyed this one more than book 2. The pace was quicker and the twists kept me engaged. I enjoyed the slow burn between Jax and Phoenix. I would have liked to have seen a little more character growth for Phoenix but overall it was an enjoyable read and that ending has reeled me in for book 4.

Wilde is brilliant! This was so good! So many twists and turns and I absolutely love how the characters are growing. They are well rounded and the MFC is flawed but awesome. The final twist! Cannot wait for the next one!!
