WHAT. A. BOOK!
Having the privilege to get given this novel by the author herself was such a gift in itself, and I would like to thank Rachel for that.
Going into the book, I didn’t know what to expect. During the start, it is heavily based on getting to know the main character and her background story as well as the lady of the manor. Their character development throughout the book was very strong and I enjoyed the arc they went on. I wish we got to know more about the MMC and his time in the war, maybe we would be able to sympathise with his inner turmoil more with his relationship with his dad.
The plot flowed nicely from start to finish, with the ending tying all the loose ends together. It was an emotional rollercoaster from about the 3/4 mark in the book and I genuinely could not stop crying, which I feel helped us gain a relationship with all characters.
For a debut novel, Fire With Fire is very strong and I would advise other readers who like themes of romance and Scottish heritage to read this. My only note would be to further deepen characters backgrounds that may not seem like they need further explanations; as it allows us as the readers to be even more immerse into the world, like we are there ourselves.
Overall, I would congratulate Rachel on the work she has done, and I am looking forward to reading any further novels she decides to release in the future!
