This debut novel blends cultures with fantasy. Rei the FMC is about healer from an Asian country. She's sent on an expedition to bring a rare plant back. This will cement her place in society, if she doesn't she will be sold to a brothel to save face. Her journey takes her to a Nordic/Slavic country where the inhabitants have animal familiar. Her journey is rife with danger and troubling situations.

Ilvor is the MMC. He meets Rei when she is attempting to get lodging at an inn. Thus begins their shared journey.

This book had a bit of everything. There are gods, Valkyries, ancient magics, witches, discovery of powers, lgbtq side characters, and political intrigue.

At times the pacing and plot were a bit slow or off for me. There is a good bit of world building, which is enjoyed. I was a fan of the the blending of cultures. There is a bit of miscommunication, which for me is a detraction, but others might not mind it.

Tropes and triggers: epic adventure, ancient magic, touch him/ her and ☠️, first time & love, forced proximity, miscommunication, betrayal, Asian and Nordic mythology

I must admit I wasn’t a fan of the writing at first. I found the sentences a were a little choppy and the dialogue repetitive. Despite all of this, I found the storyline so incredibly interesting, that I couldn’t help but keep reading. I loved the concept of selvinattas, the powers you could gain from them, and the unique world the author created. So, although the style of writing wasn’t what I’m normally into, I enjoyed the plot enough to want to push through. I’m glad I did. Rei and Ilvor’s pasts were heartbreaking, and their plight even more so. There were parts of the story that were incredibly hard to read. I felt for Ilvor, and know that he was the way he was because of his horrible past. Yet, I could not get myself to like him. On the other hand, I liked Rei’s character, even though she infuriated me at times. Despite her past and flaws, she was brave, steadfast, and loyal. I’m curious to see what’s in store for her next. Is it weird that my absolute favourite character in the story was Geri though? Like Rei, this dog is a survivor. He’s been through hell and back. And sure, he’s a wimp, but he’s kind and offers Rei comfort. I hope we see a lot more of Geri too. And Bobo, more of Bobo too.

I needed a while to process this book. There’s so much to unpack!

First, it’s unlike anything I’ve read before. The magic system, the cultures, the plot? It’s very different and refreshing in that regard.

This book is perfect for those who love a character that drives you mad. I wanted to reach through the pages and shake both MCs at multiple times during this book. But I also found myself rooting for them both too. So many emotions flooded my body while reading this book 🤣😅

Oh, and the spice? On a whole separate level. I’d give it a 3.5 chill pepper, pretty spicey ❤️‍🔥

Would totally recommend!

Fox and the Flower completely stole my heart. This book is gorgeous—emotionally, thematically, and stylistically. The writing is lush and lyrical, pulling you into the story from the very first page and refusing to let go.
The characters feel so raw and alive that it’s impossible not to become deeply invested in their journey. At times, the book reads like a personal journal, giving the story an intimate, confessional feel. The events move quickly, but you feel the characters' vulnerability, and connection so acutely. The symbolism is beautifully layered, adding richness without ever overshadowing the emotional core of the story.
This is one of those books you want to highlight, reread passages from, and think about long after you’re done. Fox and the Flower is an absolute must‑read. I adored it and can’t recommend it enough.

I really loved the premise of the book! Let's talk about what I liked versus what I didn't like.

The characters were so well developed, and I really related to them, making the story hit that much harder. Each main character had a backstory that made you understand why they make the choices they do, my heart aching for them. I loved the concept of an animal companion. Despite the story, I would still want a fox!

The magic was sometimes seen as a gift while other times it was a curse. I really loved this, especially during a specific scene (Will not mention due to spoilers). I was yelling at the book and cursing out a character. The ending also made me cry in anger and frustration...the cliff hanger.

The pace moved pretty good, the last have moving more quickly than the first. Initially, the book did move a little slower for me. The plot moved well but here is where I start to see things I did not like. There is a specific trope that I don't like that showed up, only to be taken away later. I feel the author could have used something else in its place to give a bigger impact. Or...even introduced it earlier to make the later scene hit harder. That being said, I also think both the FMC and MMC took the easy way out at the end. It made me mad. However, I do feel that since this is book 1 in the series, a lot of the loose ends will be tied up in the next book.

I also had an issue with some of the spicy scenes...yet they are spicy! I loved how they were done for the most part but there are some parts that seem odd. Some of how certain scenes played out also just didn't feel like they fit the personality of the character at that point in time. But the spice was good most of the time! I love a good possessive scene.

There is on page reflections of a SA scene that happens to a character in their past. There is also on page loss...I don't wanna say exactly what because it gives something away but...it is a big loss. There are some dark themes in this as well as violence. I was not bothered but be sure you read the trigger warnings.

Overall, I did enjoy the book but there were some things I could not overlook. I do think that I will grab book 2 because I need to know what happens next for the FMC and MMC. If you like betrayals, cliff hangers, hidden magic, very slow burn but spicy, and a good character arc, you would love this book!

This story completely stole my heart 😭

A healer searching for her place… a warrior marked by a soul-bonded fox and feared by his own people… and a love that was never supposed to exist?? I was HOOKED.

The forbidden tension in this one is EVERYTHING. You can feel the push and pull, the we shouldn’t want this but we do anyway energy in every moment—and it makes their connection hit so much harder.

And the emotional depth?? Absolutely beautiful. Watching two people, both carrying their own burdens, slowly find something real and fragile in each other had me so invested. It’s tender, a little heartbreaking, and so full of quiet strength.

The world-building and magical elements added such a rich layer too—the soul-bonded fox, the sense of destiny vs choice… it all just came together perfectly.

This is one of those stories that lingers long after you finish. Soft, aching, and unforgettable.

If you love:
🌸 healer FMC
🦊 magical bonds & fantasy elements
🔥 forbidden love
💔 fate vs choice
✨ emotional, slow-burn romance

Omg… THE ENDING!!! 😭 I was NOT expecting that at all… like, AT. ALL.
The Fox and The Flower by Leah Bliss completely pulled me in from the very beginning. The writing is so beautifully descriptive that you feel like you’re living inside the story—every scene, every emotion, every bit of magic just wraps around you. ✨
This book wrecked me in the best way. I lost count of how many times I cried. The MMC’s backstory is absolutely heartbreaking, and watching everything he’s endured just hits so deep. And the FMC? She goes through SO much that I honestly just wanted to hug her the entire time. 🥺
What I loved even more is how rich every character felt—even the side characters have depth and storylines that make them feel real. You don’t just read about them… you know them.
And the concept?! The animal bonds, the magic, the world-building—everything was so unique and captivating. It added such a special layer to an already emotional and powerful story.
This was such an unforgettable read—beautiful, emotional, and completely immersive. 💔✨
Thank you, Leah Bliss, for creating a story that made me feel so much. 🖤

The Fox and the Flower is not for the faint of heart, but for those who love high-stakes grimdark fantasy, it is an absolute must-read. Leah Bliss has crafted a world where magic is both a gift and a devastating curse.

The contrast between Rei’s restrictive, patriarchal homeland and the empowering, Viking-inspired North was beautifully handled. Seeing Rei grow from "property" into a valued healer, and potentially something much more was a highlight, which made the final act all the more gut-wrenching.

Iivor is a complex, deeply shadowed MMC. His trauma is heavy and uncomfortable, but it feels earned and central to his arc.

Their romance is a slow-burn that feels like a safe harbor until the lore takes over, leading to an ending that left me completely breathless and mourning alongside the characters.

Note: Check the trigger warnings! This book explores very dark themes, including SA (backstory) and significant loss, but it handles them with a gravity that feels purposeful to the story. Can’t wait for Book 2.

Thank you Twisted Words Publishing for the gifted advanced reader copy of 'The Fox and The Flower' by Leah Bliss.

The Fox and The Flower is a beautifully written fantasy romance that blends magic, fate, and forbidden love in such a compelling way.

The story follows a healer determines to prove her worth and a warrior marked by a soul-bond with a fox - an omen that isolates him from his own people. Their connection is immediate yet deeply complicated, and the romance is filled with tension, longing, and emotional depth that feels genuine throughout.

I especially loved how the world building enhances the story without overshadowing the characters. The magic feels natural, and the stakes - both personal and cultural - make their relationship even more powerful.

If you enjoy stories about destiny vs choice, aching romance, and characters who must fight for their place in the world, this definitely one to pick up. A memorable read.

A Tale of Destiny, Healing, and Forbidden Love

This story masterfully intertwines adventure, magic, and romance into a captivating narrative that lingers long after the final page. The author’s attention to detail makes every scene feel alive.

A healer, driven by duty and love, who journeys across foreign lands in search of a rare medicinal herb. Her path crosses with that of a warrior bound to a mystical fox spirit—a bond that marks him as both powerful and cursed in the eyes of his people.

Their forbidden connection is the emotional core of the story. The tension between destiny and choice is woven throughout, keeping the reader invested in whether these two souls can overcome the forces that seek to separate them.

Highly Recommend!

I enjoyed the concept of this story. There were many moments that made me want to keep going to see what would happen next.

The writing style is very accessible and easy to follow, which makes it a quick and smooth read. The descriptions of places, characters, and even clothing are well done and make it easy to picture everything clearly. It’s a story that flows quickly and keeps the focus on the plot and characters.

The story moves at a steady pace, with events and relationships developing quickly, which gives it a more immediate, fast-moving feel. The ending wasn’t what I expected, which doesn’t happen often and made it stand out in its own way.

To start thank you for the arc! Being given this gift and opportunity was amazing!

The author did an amazing job on this book! It follows two main characters, Rei and Ilvor. Rei is a healer from one country who meets Ilvor a messenger of forms, and the two of them begin a journey of friendship, chaos and love and then more chaos and more love! The author left me constantly needing to know what was going to happen next. Kept me intrigued and spoiler alert ended it on a cliffhanger, ugh! Now I can’t wait for the next one! She does an amazing job of creating a world you can visualize, characters you can imagine being beside and her plot was well thought out! Worth the read!

This book will keep you on your toes, warm your heart, and devastate you in the best possible way. I could not put it down. The twists and turns came fast, the magic system was unlike anything I've encountered before, and the characters wormed their way into my heart before I even realized it. I genuinely didn't want to leave this world by the time i was done reading it.
If you're a romance lover, this one doesn't just belong on your TBR list the moment it releases, move it straight to your read now pile. You won't regret it!

I got this book as an ARC reader and it was such an interesting story! It was a fantasy that I was able to dive into right away. The way Leah Bliss wrote allowed me to paint a picture of exactly what everything was like. You could feel how much Reí was passionate to show her worth. The struggles of holding up an expectation and proving people wrong in a completely new territory. It was all beautifully written and I am so glad I was able to read this book. It reads like a fantasy Asian drama and it is to die for.

I absolutely loved this book! I’d give it 6⭐️’s if I could. The romance is palpable. The dynamic between the character is passionate and fiery. Leah Bliss takes you into a world of gods and magic, that I promise you haven’t experienced before. The main characters make decisions that make the true villain of the book questionable, which I great. It’ll keep you on your toes!
