This was definitely a page-turner for me. I love The Phantom of the Opera, not in a romanticized way, but more from a psychological-analysis perspective, so I was really curious about how the romance in this reimagining would be handled. Safe to say, it was swoony and had me going HEHEHEHEHE.I really loved the creative fantasy elements mixed with the gothic, mysterious atmosphere of the source material. Despite not having known each other for long, the chemistry between the characters and the soul connection felt believable. The writing style fit the dark, romantic vibe so well. It occasionally felt overwrought but nothing too out of the ordinary for gothic books. There was one aspect I wish had been explored a little more, though it didn’t distract me from the story. I also appreciated the theme surrounding the danger of perfectionism, which is something I’ve personally struggled with. And oh my goodness, the angst was chef’s kiss. Now I really want to read the author’s other book.

Be dangerous, angel. Be magnificent.
Okay, I cannot explain how perfect this book was! AT LEAST SIX STARS XD
I adored her writing like no tomorrow; every description was perfect and no sentence fell flat or felt boring/repetitive. All of the wording was almost intoxicating and I loved that so much.
Both characters were amazing. They had their own struggles, but both grew well through them. I genuinely had no complaints, which, as you probably know, is rare lol. Even the Raoul-like character (who was terrible, and I appreciated that; I've never liked him much to begin with) was well-written.
I did like the use of France, modern-ish settings, and fantasy elements. Sirens and muses were both involved with magical force (high fantasy-like and unexplained; not Harry Potter), and that was cool. As for the first two elements, I appreciated her sticking to the original.
But most importantly...the longing and yearning. Now, I don't read spice, but even so, it's hard to find quite such passionate feelings that aren't just...lust. But she did beautifully at making the characters almost CRAVE each other, and that is the key to a Phantom of the Opera retelling.
There was no language other than a few uses of "damnation" but used more so in the literal sense of the word rather than a curse. There were several passionate kisses, and, while I skimmed a bit, they were not terribly descriptive physically but more emotionally.
The author did somewhat incorporate a Christian worldview, but it is not at all the "shove it down your throat" kind of writing. Towards the end of the book, the chapters begin with Bible verses every once in a while, almost as an epigraph. It probably could have actually used a tad more of the Gospel, but I still really liked it.
I literally could not write a review that explains how much I loved this story. It was beautifully-written on every front. I would suggest it to nearly anyone.

I absolutely adored this. It's clean, romantic, and woke and swear free. I am not sure what age range this is aimed at, but I would definitely put it as older teens/adults. The domestic abuse was well written (but did not go far) and it is nice to see healthy relationships promoted in books.

I one more chapter'd myself in the middle of the night, last night (with very predictable results), just because this story is so intense!
I've only watched the Phantom of the Opera once and had mixed feelings about it. I loved the music and the Gothic setting --the mystery and the drama. I feel like this book had the things I did like about it (minus the actual soundtrack, though you get a lot of talk about major and minor chords--and how it seems that they are always transitioning from one to the other so seamlessly!--sharps, flats, high C's, arpeggios, runs, etc) and added magic, curses, and so much drama.
A "Phantom" lives under an opera house and has done so for the last 30 years. Amelie arrives cold and destitute. Mysterious things begin to happen from the moment she's carried into the opera house, and she discovers that the Phantom may be more human than she ever dreamed, while her own abilities may prove to be otherworldly.
Pros:
Intense action from beginning to end
Lyrical prose perfect for a Phantom retelling
Romance that will make your toes curl
Things that made it slightly less than 5 stars for me:
There are a couple of contradictions. When Amelie goes to dinner with Mat (I will misspell his actual name) it says her mind sloshes from the wine. Then it says she wakes up with a headache but not from the wine because she hardly touches it. I felt like there was another instance of this, but I can't think of it, right now.
The prose starts becoming predictable. I'm personally guilty of this as a writer, and it's probably as a writer that I noticed. Sentences would be a list and then short, fragmented sentences. Spaced out this would be powerful, too frequent and it becomes redundant.
Their emotion is so strong that it's often registered as pain. When the characters actually experience pain, it's hard to know if it's happening from emotion or reality.
The phrase 'your truth' was thrown in and I HATE that phrase. It feels a bit 'girl empowerment' for a minute or two, but the characters are sweet enough it's not obnoxious.
The scenes where they finally give in and start kissing is a little, ummm, steamy? It's not spicy. There are no open doors at all, but they definitely get a little overzealous. (I mean, it's understandable, I just want to be open about where the level is, so you go in prepared)
Overall, this was an un-put-downable story with sweet, sacrificial romance. Really--they put each other first over and over again and it's lovely to see. I will probably read this again sometime.

I think I held my breath for the last ten chapters…in fact I’m not sure if I’ve started breathing again yet. Wow. This was such a tragically beautiful story, devastating and heart wrenching. I can’t find the right words to describe how I am feeling. I loved this book. If you’re a fan of dark romantasy that still shines with threads of hope I highly recommend Imperfect Harmony!! -Quick caveat…This is not a YA book, it was written for an adult audience. While this book is free of “spice” there are some very descriptive moments of yearning, passion, and desperation laced kisses. In my opinion the romance stays at a PG-13 level, the author does not describe touches or sensations in any part of the body that would be covered by underwear. The romantic tension is more intense and descriptive than books I typically recommend. I want to be upfront about it so that you know what to expect from this story.

I am just so freaking in love with this book!!!! I enjoyed every moment and couldn’t put it down. I was up almost all night reading! The rawness and depth of feeling the author put into the characters was incredibly satisfying. I laughed with them, cried with them, raged for them, and then went back to hi-light all my favorite sections/sayings to remember. This is one I will keep and read over and over again. My favorite part though, is how the message relates to each of us. We are flawed, imperfect, unable to comprehend the gravity of the love God has for us. We run, deny, and chain ourselves to our own purgatory, not realizing that all we have to do is accept the gift we are freely given. This book was everything I didn’t know I needed. Healing, cleansing, and renewing~ I can’t recommend it enough!
