Shifter Lords #9

Final Shift

Rate this book
Caelan, the Shifter Lord of Texas, is living on borrowed time.

As the fae seek to spread their influence, Caelan's land and his people are suffering. Stubbornly refusing to accept Evie's help, Caelan doubles down to continue fighting a battle he cannot hope to win.

As the other Lords unite, Evie is torn between her duty to her people and doing what is right. But Evie is a child born of gods, raised by humans, and changed by fate. If there is ever a hope to unite everyone, she will have to stand up and command it.

This time, the entire world's fate hangs in the balance, and Evie can no longer deny who she is.

As she rises to power for one final, cataclysmic battle, one of her found family will rise with her and become either a threat no one saw coming or the hope that will unite them all.

Evie's journey of heartache and hope finally comes to an end. But the question remains, will she go out with a world-rattling roar or will she succumb to the force that threatens them all?

A bit fun

So I just read final shift. For most of the series I was doing pretty well. I really loved the world and the different types of ways that magic and powers and stuff manifest in the characters. I think that’s really cool. I struggled a bit with these last few books for a couple of reasons. First was after a certain point having a main character that just keeps basically becoming more and more powerful when they’re already touted as like this powerhouse just seems kind of redundant. Once it gets to a point where they’re more powerful than anyone else and then doubling that power just kind of takes away from the underdog feel of it and I’m a huge underdog person. This may not bother other people but for me, it made it less believable, less relatable, and took out any of the suspense. My next issue was in the book prior to final shift. The best friend Moira says that she has this conversation with Ethan where he does a deep dive and basically she hinted all this stuff about her past history/work and then in this book it’s like they have that conversation in this book, as if it’s happening present tense, even though it was mentioned in the prior book as something that had already happened, kinda in the background off book. So that actually caused, for me, a difficulty in kind of maintaining that “in the zone” while reading moment. It was very jarring and I had to reread that part to see if I was reading it rite. The next thing that became almost repetitive was the relationships, the way they worked out for the characters. So Evie was in the beginning with Calen and then after him, she went to Rowan. The secondary match worked out for her cause they were very similar in ways, so it was fine. It wasn’t something that totally ruined it for me and I understood it, but then the same thing almost happened with the best friend Moira where first she was with that one Lord Soren and then later into Ethan. I don’t think I would focus that much on this except for the fact that at the end of this book, there’s kind of like that peak into the next book and in it she’s back with Soren doing stuff which was confusing to me. So unless I’m confusing that two characters in my own head and it was the other way around how she started then it seems like she started with one basically called him a child when it came to matters of Love, started falling for Ethan then switched back to Soren for the next book? That seems weird so I don’t know if that was a typo or if I am miss remembering but it puts me off even wanting to read the other book. The other thing about it is the other book also says things in there that don’t match up with the ending of this book so the ending of this book very much puts the end where, for some reason, people are now ignoring each other, taking space from friends they’ve known years, which makes no sense because it’s not like anything that occurred did so because Evie wanted it to occur. Grief or not, I mean, why would you cut off your best friend for months because of that. Seemed weird. But in reading the sneak peak of the next book, the best friend is basically saying she works part-time at a flower shop and all this but last we knew the flower shop hadn’t even got up and running yet in Evie and Rowen’s territory and Moira was staying outside of the territory ignoring Evie at the end. The sneak peek has Moira with I guess Soren instead of Ethan so I don’t know. Other than the last of the books, I really did enjoy the series. I consumed it at a very fast rate because when I enjoy a book I tend to be so into the world that I just keep reading even when I finish a book. With this last two that have already been completed I struggle a little bit and with this very last one, I tended to struggle a bit more and I don’t know if I’ll continue after this. I may because I don’t like leaving things undone. I guess we’ll just have to see. Other than these last books, though I will reiterate again that the author in the beginning of the books did really good job building this world. It was a cool world had things about it that I hadn’t seen before which is a hard thing to accomplish in a market of books especially within this genre where you’re able to show something new to your readers. Overall, I give it 2 1/2 three stars.

What a ride it’s been. So much has happened along the way and it’s hard to say much without either spoiling the journey for you if you’ve not read which I highly recommend you do, or spoiling the ending which is epic and must be read to be truly enjoyed. I’ve enjoyed Evie’s journey it’s not been easy but it was extraordinary to read about. I’m so happy she got the ending she deserved. I’m sad that this part of the series has ended but I look forward to seeing what more the world has in store. Hopefully they’ll be a cameo or two along the way.

Incredible. Just a stunningly fabulous way to end Evie’s storyline!

Rating: 5⭐️

Incredible. Just a stunningly fabulous way to end Evie’s storyline! With a heartbreaking twist and then fantastic finish for her and family.

Sort of.

Babin has 11 books planned for the series but it looks as though the final 2 novels will be about Moira, the fae/ vampire and her journey through her new powers and to her own HEA.

This finishes up Evie’s journey. And I’ll say I wasn’t expecting how the author would bring this journey to the conclusion. Brilliant and heart stopping.

It’s always been about Evie using her powers. And here she absolutely does in a way that’s shocking!

This is a final battle between Queen Evie and King Rowan, the Lords, those who, including Caelan who has made peace with Evie, and a group of Fae who believe that they are entitled to the land and rights to all . And have been using poison and other means to obtain it.

It’s ferocious, terrifying, there’s losses, and the ultimate battle is one I wasn’t prepared for.

The end of the story, includes the ramifications of this war. Some people are still “missing “ from the story, alive but not heard from. The trauma of that final scene still lingers.

I’ll be interested in seeing how this series plays forward. Moira is seriously changed and the next section is hers.

Again, amazing writing and excellent storytelling. This was edge of my seat, white knuckle scenario stuff and I loved every minute of it.

I loved Evie’s journey and I’ll be so sad when the series eventually ends . But this one was an incredible ride! Highly recommended.

Wow, and exciting ending to the series.
Danu is pushing her demand that Evie takes her place and until that happens, she is killing the land, especially Caelan’s.
Caelen finally realizes that a lot of what he has done was really wrong and begs Evie for help. She does with some surprising results.
That really starts everything off. Evie is training constantly at the same time she is reinforcing the safety of the Lords lands. She is also dealing with the fae who are angry that they can’t get home anymore since the destruction of the tree.
This book has some action, lots of magic, surprises, suspense, and humour.
Although this completes Evie’s story, there are so many options for new books and series. The next two books are centered on Moira and I will be reading them when they come out.
This was an easy, quick, great read.
Definitely recommend this series.

I can’t believe that Evie’s part of this series arc is over, but I am excited that Moira’s turn is coming in the next book. With this title, Evie has a lot on her plate with her new marriage, more lessons with her dad, and a problem with her previous love that is coming to a head. I just loved the way this book concluded with a surprise twist at the end. As always, this book is well-written, engaging, fascinating, and a great way to spend a few hours. I have come to just love this author so much, and this series is one of the reasons. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Okay, book 9 finishes off this arc in the series, and all I can say is thank god. I really enjoyed the first handful of books, but as the series continued and the dynamics changed, a certain toxic relationship fizzled and jealousy abounded from many sides, I found myself not enjoying them as much. I did like how the story ended, just not all the stops on the journey there. However this was not poorly written or devised, this is just how I felt about the series at this point in time (feels like my paranormal romance kick has given way to paranormal cozy vibes 🤷🏻‍♀️). May come back and give this a reread at some point, and may continue on with the next characters arc.

In the last installment for Evie & Rowan. This book picks up with Evie & Rowan at the end of their honeymoon. Danu & Tatiana are causing trouble, but Evie has been practicing. She has been fixing & building relationships between her and the other lords, as well as some of the fae. She is dealt a crushing blow but somehow rises from the ashes for a satisfying ending. I can’t wait to see what happens next for our crew, since the torch was passed to Moira.

good

I love Evie and all her friends in this series. Not only is EV having to deal with the Lord‘s problems, but she also has to deal with the fie. Unfortunately this means that she has to meet with her ex fiancé and it is very difficult for her emotionally. I like the fact that in this series, they don’t just talk about Evie and her mate, but they also talk about her other friend such as her vampire friend. Evie has definitely come a long way with her magic from the beginning of this series. I will definitely read the next book in the series.

This series so far has been incredible and although it seems we have come to the end of Evie’s journey, the author does it in such a style that has you glued to the pages and clinging to the edge of your seat for dear life! Its emotional and it’s gripping as we embark on our way to the final battle that takes your breath away. Theres twists and turns, surprises and suspense, magic and little humour and of course there are losses but the author pulls it altogether and gives us an epic ending worthy of this incredible character and I look forward to the next book!

excellent

I loved his series from the start. I’m still not sure I liked the ending, I feel like it was missing some things and she didn’t totally, get her happy ever after considering all Evie went through.

Much better than the last. Still romance heavy but the POV shifts and cheesiness calmed down, and there were some intriguing wrap-ups for Evie's main storyline. Also Caelen had good moments again - finally

I'm pretty sure this is the end of Evie's story, and I hope to see her in Moira's future books.
Everything happened too fast, and the book was too short, but I'm satisfied with how it ended.

HORRIBLE ENDING

I’m not going to read any more of these books due to what happened to Fee and Poe. This is the worst ending ever and it didn’t have to happen like this. Animal lovers you have been warned.

Really Good…

So glad this isn’t the absolute end of these characters, at least I am assuming more info will come out in Moira’s two books…

A satisfying conclusion to Evie's story.

I am looking forward to reading Moira's story, but given the way I absolutely slammed through these I'll wait until it's complete before starting it.

Final Shift was a bit of a strange one for me. It felt like an in between book rather than a true finale. I was happy to finally see Danu vanquished because that storyline had been building for so long.

The death and resurrection of the Lords felt really abrupt, and the final battle was so chaotic that it was hard to stay invested. I kept waiting for a bigger emotional payoff that never quite landed.

It makes me a little sad to say this because I absolutely loved the first five books in the series, but these last few were a bit underwhelming in comparison.

That said, I'd still happily read Moira's story. I'm so curious to see what special magic the Lords received and where the world goes from here.
