This book would best be read in conjunction with Garrett's "The Demise of the Devil" because many of the theories which he begins this book by assuming or laying out, she dismantles handily.
All told, I found this book relatively unhelpful and excessively dogmatic in its approach to Jewish-Christian relations in the first few centuries. A lot of show but very little substance. I can't recommend it. Those considering reading it should instead turn to Shaye Cohen's far superior "From the Maccabees to the Mishnah".
