They broke fate to be together. Now fate wants its revenge.
Ellas Valentin tore the world apart for love. She shattered her destiny and plunged the kingdom into eternal night—all to save the boy who died for her across lifetimes.
But Noct doesn't remember her. Reincarnated without his memories, he's building a new life with someone else. And while the golden thread of their bond pulls Ellas toward him through a starving, monster-twisted world, she doesn't know if the boy she finds will be the one she lost—or a stranger wearing his face.
As the eternal night fuels a rising army of nightmares, Ellas must confront the truth she's been running from: to save the world she fractured, she may have to destroy the one soul she was never meant to lose.
For readers who crave love that defies lifetimes and a darkness that dares it to survive.
ARC READ This book......sighs, I don't even know where to begin. I personally devour books left and right and have always had a movie playing in my head......this book consumed me so much that I felt like I was literally each of the characters and I was standing in the middle of their universe. Angst, consuming, heartbreak, beautifully devastating are all words to describe this book and the characters, but it's still not enough 😭 There are not enough known words to truly describe this masterpiece. I love seeing more of Ellas and noct, and learning more of Elowen, but Kieran and Vexia are the ones who truly had me in a chokehold. Their story is what made me cry for the first EVER from a book. And not just tears. I literally had to put it down and take awhile to process what just happened. The book hangover I got from this was ridiculous but beyond worth it. Arden Fang is my soul author and I can't wait for book 3!!
I don't even know where to start... this book was phenomenal! If I could've read this in one sitting, I would have. The love, the heartbreak, over and over that pain but still moving forward. The way the story is written makes you feel it all. Makes you feel like you're experiencing it with them. I am in awe and can't wait for the next book.
First and foremost thank you Arden Fang for my arc copy! I absolutely couldn't wait any longer. My review is longer than I intended but I have a lot to say and I regret nothing!
This series is setting me up for the biggest book slump in history. I might need a few light fluffy reads to recover. It's been an emotionally intense, immersive experience for me, where I am drawn so deeply in the story and feel so much for the characters. Where I thought the first book was beautiful and poetic, this one doubles down on that point. Everything flows so seamlessly together. After all of the chaos in After the Sky Falls I'm met with the soothing embrace of Ashes to the Stars where everything is broken and we sit at the eye of the storm. The gradual build up of tension strings you along to a nail biting conclusion that answers some questions but leaves more in its wake. Every word is written with such intention that it makes me slowly savor each sentence, and the story occupies all of my thoughts even now. Everything is unpredictable and I find myself rereading parts to find what I'm missing, which puzzle pieces are hiding.
I love the parallels between the past and present, how differently the story plays out between Vexia and Kieran compared to Cael and Serai or Ellas and Noct. How different choices and consequences are revealed slowly instead of explained outright. I wasn't expecting to love this back story but it opens a whole new perspective for these characters. It really makes me second guess all of the things that I thought I knew while introducing crucial information that has me pondering possibilities. The twists keep coming and I was in awe of these revelations.
The transformation of Thorne and Lux from side characters to their own complex beings was wonderful. We saw glimpses of their potential throughout the first book but now they are forging their own path and becoming something else entirely. I really enjoyed Thorne from the beginning and Lux is growing on me as well. I love learning more about everyone's abilities, especially since it feels more like we are learning with them instead of about them. Arden Fang does an extraordinary job and pulling you into the story as an observer, powerless to do anything but enthralled every step of the way. Every story in the past and present reflects the greater struggle between duty and desire, while the Wheel hangs over everyone like a puppetmaster demanding the cycle to continue. As always Zahir is an absolute delight. The chapter transitions with his recipes keep me going through these dark times. I can feel the tone change immediately and I enjoy it so much.
Overall this is a gritty, honest story about true love, soulmates, reincarnation and the cost of everything. I am addicted to every part of this and currently everyone's fate is in the balance. Which means book 3 needs to find my fingertips soon please. I really can't recommend this series enough. It's emotional and raw but still is somehow breathtakingly beautiful. I am a forever follower of this author and will read anything they write!
There are books you read—and then there are books that settle under your skin and refuse to leave. Ashes to the Stars will leave you shattered. Book two deepens the hurt, darkens the world we return to, and burns through you until you feel remade in its aftermath.
The world Ellas once saved is barely recognizable—eternal night, a starving kingdom, monsters wrapped in shadow. And the boy she sacrificed everything for? He doesn’t remember her. With the roles heartbreakingly reversed from the first book, we experience the pain from both our FMC and MMC, feeling the devastating weight of being forgotten. This is an aching exploration of what love looks like after the vow, after the sacrifice—when the cost keeps collecting. Ellas must decide whether to save the world she broke or the one soul fate never meant her to keep.
The 2nd book delivers the same emotional devastation as the first—grief, loss, and heartbreak that had me in tears more than once. The love here doesn’t unfold gently- it collides! ⚔️
Ellas and Noct remain the emotional core, but Kieran and Vexia completely gutted me. Their story lingers long after the final page, the kind of heartbreak that feels destined to echo across lifetimes.
I loved watching Thorne and Lux step fully into themselves, evolving from side characters into complex, compelling forces. The layered timelines and parallels between Vexia and Kieran, Cael and Serai, and Ellas and Noct add incredible depth, revealing how choices ripple across past and present. Each twist reshapes what you think you know and pulls you deeper into their lives. Lyrical, dark Studio Ghibli undertones and is utterly addictive, this is a story of soulmates, sacrifice, and devotion that borders on ruin. It doesn’t just make you feel—it makes you ache, grieve, and hope. Have the tissues ready. You’re in for another unforgettable ride. 🖤
A Story That Burns You Down and Rebuilds You in the Starlight
There are books you read… and then there are books that consume you. THESE STORIES CONSUME YOU.
Ashes to the Stars; it’s an emotional wildfire that burns straight through your chest and leaves your heart raw, aching, and somehow brighter for it.
This book lives in its darkness. It doesn’t shy away from grief, loss, trauma, or the kind of pain that reshapes a person from the inside out. The emotional weight is heavy, relentless, and devastating in the most beautiful way. Every chapter feels like standing in the ashes of something that mattered, trying to remember how to breathe again.
I cried. Not just once, but the kind of crying where you have to put the book down and stare at the wall because your heart needs a moment to catch up with what just happened. Fang has a way of writing pain that feels honest, not dramatized, the kind that burns slow and deep and stays with you long after you’ve turned the last page.
And yet, for all its darkness, this story is also about transformation. About becoming something more after being broken. About finding light not in spite of the fire but because of it. It broke my heart and stitched it back together again over and over, each time leaving it a little more tender, a little more open.
Ashes to the Stars doesn’t just make you feel — it makes you ache, it makes you grieve, it makes you hope. It’s the kind of book that leaves emotional fingerprints on your soul. The kind you’ll never forget, because part of you stayed inside its pages.
This isn’t a read. It’s an experience. And it will burn into you in the best, most devastating way. 🔥✨
“I will burn the stars to ashes if I have to.” “I will find him again.”…..
This book was just as intense and powerful as book one, if not more! The exceptionally intricate world, character, and scene building that Arden Fang creates, is like nothing I’ve seen before in a fantasy book. It’s almost unexplainable, how good it is. It makes you feel like you’ve been transported into the story and you’re there right alongside the characters. Walking on the worn paths they walk on, smelling the same things they smell, and even hearing the same sounds. It’s truly incredible how real it feels while reading.
This one dug deeper into Vexia, Serai’s mother. It built the story of Vexia’s life from a kid all the way to becoming Serai’s mother and really helps you understand the reason Vexia is the way she is. Even though I highly disliked Vexia, I did like getting to read about her life and the things she went through to be where she’s at. It almost made me feel bad for her. ALMOST. (If you get to chapter 37, you’ll know why I say this.)
And the emotional rollercoaster I went on regarding Noct? It was most definitely a wild ride, to say the least. Jaw-dropping moments, book slamming moments, tear dropping moments. I felt it all for my boy Noct! Different lives, different people, different places. But one thing remains constant. The lost and timeworn look in his eyes.
I don’t want to say too much more, because I don’t want to spoil anything. But I HAVE to read book three now!! I have to see what happens next…
ekindsklgndsgjiodsgjisdjfiodjgse...I repeat...AJEKEJFEOAKFOAEPIGFOPEAIFOAEKJFL;AEJFTO;AEIFRPOAE!!!!!! Seriously! Come on! Like, I am done. I am deceased. This is not a book. This is not a story. This is another part of you. It bites and takes ahold. You cannot shake what it is you have just read.
Siiiiiiiiiiiigh, I just cannot. Ellas and Noct are truly at the heart of what drives this. You cannot get more......I don't even have the word for it...main characters. They just are and you just feel and you just read and consume.
Too often the darker parts of characters and worlds gets glossed over or just touched upon. Not here. The emotional impact and the driving it does for you, is what makes this book what it is.
Characters and writer's voice are likely my favorite parts. So much for me is about the writer's voice. It is a make it or break it whether or not I can get into a book or how into the book I will get. If it is a miss, my brain just kind a glosses over reading. Almost checks out. BUT THIS? Not with this, Arden Fang's voice grabs your attention like a spell and weaves this magic that entrances you--transporting you to the world effortlessly.
The characters...sigh...the characters. They are this story. Especially Noct, who is on my list of "favorite fictional characters of all time" list.
I couldn’t put it down. This story captured me and held me hostage in the best way. My heart broke for Ellas who crossed kingdoms to find Noct only to come up short. She didn’t give up though, she fought through the whole book to find answers, but the answer she found broke her heart and she refuses to accept that it is the only way. Noct doesn’t remember anything and finds himself in the care of Elowen. Elowen protected him and saved him, but I was overwhelmed with a feeling of wrongness because Noct couldn’t remember what (rather who) he was missing. I loved the character development of Thorne and Lux, and I look forward to learning more about them. I didn’t like Lux in the beginning, but I think she is really growing on me. We also go back and learn about Vexia and Kieran. Ugh, Vexia. I hate her. We basically get to see her “villain origin story” and learn how she became the cold, evil person that she is. Her heart is shattered and that leads to the “sacrifices” she makes to become what she is. I enjoyed reading the backstory, but I can never forgive her for what she did. No absolution from me- a broken heart is not an excuse for the evil she became. However, her character arc is well written and seeing what drove her really helped me to understand why certain things happened. This book was an exhilarating ride and I need book 3 right away!
How do you put in to words a book that is just completely all consuming …. Arden creates worlds you truly only dream about! They rip you from your reality and pull you in to a world that’s demands your full attention and you will happily give it for hours, and be left feeling lost when the book ends longing for the next book…. His writing style is so unique and truly creates a movie in your mind.Hold on tight tho because he takes you threw every emotion you will feel like you’re on a rollercoaster but you would happily stay on this journey forever ! His MMC are charming powerful and there yearning rivals Bridgerton men 🤣.This was the second book and it follows Ellas (the most amazing MFC) on her journey to find Noct and all the challenges she faces, while also introducing a deeper look in to Kieran his love story and challenges he faces where you will find a greater understanding as things all start to tie together.I completed it in one day and night because you just can’t put it down and I shall now be sulking until I get my hands on book 3
don’t walk run to read this masterpiece of a world !
Ok, so as per my usual reviews, I don't like to give any spoilers in it, I truly believe that these books especially should be experienced fresh. As my other reviews said that I wasn't a reader before this trilogy, that being said I am still in love with this story. In book 1 we leave off with an ending that is but isn't a cliffhanger. Book 2 continues very beautifully and seamlessly from where we left off. And begins to add more character depth and history from the characters that were somewhat in the background previously. It sheds new light into some of the other characters in this world.I haven't finished this book yet but I know that I will be devouring the rest of if as I can get more free time. I can't stress enough how much I love this story, Arden Fang has written a real winner and I truly hope that this is made into a show or a movie. I would be all over that. I hope my non-spoiler review has helped with making your decision to read this. Enjoy.
Ashes to the Stars is the kind of sequel that doesn’t just continue a story it pulls you deeper into a world that feels carved from starlight, shadow, and heartbreak. Arden Fang takes the cosmic ache of After the Sky Falls and turns it into something even more ruinously beautiful.
Ellas’s journey is raw, emotional, and painfully human. She’s fighting monsters, but she’s also fighting the kind of inner darkness that whispers in the quiet moments. And with Noct reborn into a life where she no longer belongs, every step she takes feels stitched with longing and defiance. Their connection thrums beneath every chapter, an invisible tether you can feel even when they’re worlds apart.
But what truly elevates this book is the world. It’s breathtaking. Fang builds landscapes so vivid they don’t just sit on the page they breathe. Skies littered with fractured constellations, forests that feel older than memory, oceans that glitter with magic and myth. Even in its eternal night, the world glows with a haunting, ethereal beauty. It’s dangerous, but soft around the edges, dark, but never dull. Every setting feels alive, as if the land itself grieves and hopes alongside the characters.
Together, the emotional gravity and the luminous worldbuilding create a reading experience that is captivating, immersive, and utterly unforgettable. A love that spans lifetimes. A world shaped by magic and devotion. A sequel that refuses to let you go.
ARC REVIEW: This book played with emotions like they were a board game, constantly dragging me through pure happiness and sorrow the next chapter. Honestly be prepared to sit on the edge of your seat while holding your breath just to see what happens next!
It was wrote absolutely beautiful and is definetly one to savor while reading. The story line with these characters continued to grow and wedge itself deeper into my entire soul honestly, I love the growth and the background that is provided throughout its entirety.
Arden Fang has become one of my favorite others and I will never forget these books or characters honestly. They have left their mark and it is a wonderful thing (when they dont have me absolutely bawling).
ARC Read Arden did it again! Another amazing world was built and continued on storylines got deeper.. plots thickened.. heartbreak was happening. After reading book one I wasn’t sure my heart could take much more.. book two was amazing! New characters were introduced. Storylines of mentioned characters were brought more into the light and you fall in love and hate them all the same! If you loved Noct and Ellas don’t worry they are still there.. Lux and Thorne they are there too! Meet Kieran who is Cael’s father and find out the truth of why Cael and Serai’s love is so forbidden. Catch up with Noct who has no memory at all and meet Elowen & Noko her nine tailed fox… There are so many touch and go moments your heart will pulse your heart will hurt! But the story continues on!
Wow, I am at a loss of words for this one. My heart, my blood pressure...all over the place with this one. I can't even explain the emotions I'm feeling with this one. Arden Fang's writing is something different that we all need in our life. Consuming every inch of yourself into this world and it feels like you just go deeper and deeper into the fantasy world. You can feel every touch, desire and need as you read. I'm shattered . Arden Fang's words hit me like a tidal wave. I'm still reeling, trying to process the emotions swirling inside. His writing is like a spell, it consumes you, pulls you under, and doesn't let go. I'm raw, exposed, and still trembling from the intensity. This book... it's changed me.
Wow....just WOW! I have no words, my mind is still trying to comprehend what just happened! The ending to Ashes to the Stars, those last few chapters where just BAM, BAM, BAM!
When Arden writes you are pulled into the story, you dont just read the book and move on, they become a part of you, forver living in your heart and soul, they consume you!
The books are magnificent, his writing is magical and it stays with you after you read the last page!
I have ABSOLUTELY loved this series so far, Cael and Serai / Noct & Ellas stories or in this case the life they lived, I can not wait to get my hands on book 3!
Another beautiful continuation of Ella and Noct and some other characters that you are going to love. I love the character development and the fact that the second book is just as good as the first. The emotional roller coaster is one that you will want to keep riding. This is not a standalone. You will want to read the novelette Love’s Ascension(Free with newsletter sign up) and book one After the Sky Falls.
I was thrilled to get into this one and have to say it really builds up from book one to give you a satisfying and deeper connection with the characters, but still be able to hold up for it's own while moving the series forward in a mesmerizing and entertaining way. Arden has proven that consistency in writing beautiful and immersive storytelling is something you'll find with precision within any title they write.
Heart Breaking but, I loved it! I don't know where to begin other then I absolutely loved this!! this book brought so much feelings! I don't want to spoil anything but, its a beautiful story and I loved every moment even the parts that broke my heart. "Monsters feed on grief. Memories demand blood. And knowledge itself asks for sacrifice." Yes, I will be waiting for the next book !
An absolute must read! The series gets better and better!! I love how this series continues to jump between timelines to explain things. Sometimes I’ve gotten it right, sometimes I got it wrong. But gaining the insight into this incredible world is amazing. The food descriptions continue to inspire. So far, my favourite character is Zahir… and I so wish that Nokori were real
Arden Fang has such a way to pull you in deeper to these stories, these fates, that just keeps you wanting more. The love, the anguish, the betrayal just punches your heart but everything is so beautifully written, you cant help but bond to these characters. absolutely ecstatic to read the final book in the trilogy.
Wow, what a read. I could not put this down till the last page was read. The pace is perfect for the flow of the story making for an easy and enjoyable read. You will love these characters and you want to be there for them no matter what. This book is a must read.
I am obsessed with this series. The writing is amazing. You feel all the emotions as you read And the world draws you in. Lumengrave is so beautifully horrible. I just want to try all of the pastries! This is another outstanding book. Cannot wait for book 3!
Once again you have knocked it out of the park! Where romance meets fantasy I couldn’t put it down! Thank you for the good read! I look forward to see what you have in the future.
Ashes to the Stars is beautifully written. it's hard for me to put into words how much I love this book. I am so invested in every character, every past life, every love story, and heartache.
There are so many pieces and I cant wait to see how they fit together in the end.
Thank you Arden Fang for letting me be a part of your ARC team.
I devoured Ashes to the Stars like it owed me money. This story is dark, emotional, and deliciously intense. The characters don’t just fall in love, they collide. Every choice feels heavy, every touch feels dangerous, and the tension simmers from the first page. The writing has a cinematic, almost lyrical edge, and the emotional depth hits hard without losing momentum. If you love high-stakes romance wrapped in pain, power, and transformation, this one will absolutely own your weekend. From the very first book - Love's Ascension, I've been hooked. I definitely recommend this.... Dark. Addictive. Unforgettable
I have just finished reading this masterpiece of dark fantasy romance, the 2nd book in a series which has totally shattered me. I am still reeling from all the pain and heartbreak the lovers in this series suffer from. Time after time they are forced to give up on their great love. I feel that in this book we get to see the pain of the mothers being inflicted on their daughters in a vicious circle of forbidden love. Love in which Noct is at the centre of, through one lifetime after another. Vexia and Naranthe both so cold and heartless in this book, full of hatred, because they never got the love they wanted, making demands on their daughters, who they wield like a weapon which has been honed for duty first and foremost. Poor Serai, Ellas and Elowen, one heartbreak after another. Yet true love proves to be persistent, coming back time and time again in the hope that one day it will be fulfilled. Every line in this book reads like poetry, the emotions are raw and real, both those of pain and loss, as well as those of love. I really enjoyed also reading the poetic descriptions about food and the sweet confections of Tealexir, which are also written with such love they capture both the mind and the soul of the reader. Arden Fang is my favourite author at the moment and I cannot wait to read book 3.
This book is phenomenal, a true masterpiece crafted to perfection. Being the second installment
I dont even know how to describe how I feel about the book besides how it was shattering and soulcrushing.
This book just had me hooked. I left like i was under a spell.I couldn't put it down! it consumed me. The world & characters were described to perfection. The heartfelt just destroyed me.
The author is an amazong writer, love the writing style. Everything about this book is absolutely perfect. I wouldn't change anything. Im so excited for book 3
Thanks for letting me be apart of your team what a journey its been!
Just finished this beautifully crafted story and I'm shattered. Love, betrayal and heartache carefully woven into a intricate tapestry of fate. I need to let my heart heal before the next book shatters me again. Such a beautiful story!
OMG, I really enjoyed Book 1 but nothing could compare to Book 2. I was so emotional I felt that with this book I was really moving forward with all of the characters , I felt like I was really in their world and I could feel their emotions especially the pain and sadness and I would never have guessed some of the twists that happened. Will the next part of their journey be a happy one I wonder? I have my fingers crossed come on book 3 I need to know the ending 😱
Thank you to the Author for allowing me to be part of his Arc team. This in no way influenced my decision on this book.
