Fantastic, unexpected twist, of a book following Trail of Longing. Although part of a series, it can stand alone. Go through the journey again from Trail of Longing, but go with Aiden and Katie. Amazing how the author takes the same story and makes it completely different with the different characters. Full of adventure and self discovery and misconceived beliefs of others. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a great romantic pioneer historical book.

This is an OK Western romance novella, but the heroine was hard to like at times. I also wanted more backstory on both Katie and Aiden.

Katie was a good friend to Emma (from the last book in the series), but she was hard to like when she was so mean to Aiden. She was so determined to have her "adventure" and meet her "hero" that it kept her from seeing that Aiden was perfect for her. He loved her, and put up with all the rude things she said to him, never letting it show how much she hurt him with her attitude. I actually wondered a few times if she was worth it, and wondered why he put up with her for so long.

Aiden was a sweetheart, but I wanted him to tell Katie off a few times when she said such mean things to him. I actually thought he deserved someone who treated him better than Katie did.

Once Katie finally realized that Aiden was the one for her, the story got better. But she was still very stubborn and a bit too outspoken at times.

I did like that both Aiden and Katie developed a real friendship with some of the Cherokee that they lived with for a while. With their history of what happened in Ireland, they actually understood the plight of the Native Americans much better than other settlers would have. I did want, though, for the Cherokee elders to tell Sky Bear that he was wrong to kidnap Katie.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Cute romance, nicely written. It has a little more substance than many romances, with statements about how racism is wrong and people shouldn't be forced into things (like marriages) for the wrong reasons. There's nothing in it that you wouldn't expect, though.
Note: I received this book for free through Goodreads Giveaways.

This is the 4th book in Merry Farmer's 'Hot on the Trail' series and features Katie Boyle, who's a fiery redheaded Irish woman who's traveling with her family on the Oregon Trail to start a new life.

Aiden Murphy has known Katie all his life & followed her from their village of Ballymote in Ireland to America & brought his family along too just so that he can be with her, much to her annoyance.

As for Katie, her mother has always wanted her to marry Aiden since she was a little girl, but Katie has other ideas and she wants adventure, passion & to meet a man who will 'risk life and limb to save her and rescue her from a dragon', but as far as Aiden's concerned, he's as "dull as toast" & she feels he's crowding her all the time.
During their journey, things happen to make Katie change her mind about Aiden & she starts to see him in a new light and maybe the person she thought she wanted to be with, was right under her nose all of this time & she never realised it until now!

I liked this book a lot & the characters are introduced in previous books briefly.
This is so far my favourite book in the series due to the two main characters who I loved, who are opposites, one a mischievous fiddle player who knows who he wants, the other a hotheaded woman who doesn't see what's right in front of her face & the banter between them sometimes verges on comical, which makes this a fun story which will have you smiling & hoping Katie will see the light where Aiden's concerned.

Another excellent book, well written as always & highly recommended! If you haven't read the other 3 standalone novels in this series I would seriously consider doing so!

Trail of Dreams is by Merry Farmer. It takes place on the Oregon Trail mostly within the confines of a wagon trail. The characters are well-developed and realistic. Can a young girl find her dreams on the Oregon Trail?
Katie Boyle and her family were from Ireland. They had come over the sea and now across America to settle in the West. With them was the Murphy clan with Aiden who Katie had known all her life. Emma Sutton, her mother, and Dr. Dan Meyers were picked up at a cabin along the trail. They had been left behind by their wagon train so that Emma’s ankle could heal after the horror of a tornado. Emma was attracted to Dr. Meyers but her mother no switched her eye to Dr. Russell Sandifer who was on the wagon train. Emma didn’t like him. Katie and her new best friend, Emma, spent hours reflecting on their lives as they walked along the trail. Katie thought Emma should fight harder for Dr. Meyers while Emma thought Katie should choose Aiden Murphy since he obviously loved her. Emma also told Katie she loved Aiden back but Katie disagreed.
Katie wants more out of her life and this adventure she is on. She wants more than familiarity, she wants passion. She even thinks it romantic to be taken by an Indian to his teepee and being made his. She flirted with the soldiers at the forts they passed, hoping to find adventure here. Aiden is always there looking after her and she resents that. She is more than capable of taking care of herself. When will he see that. Will Katie find her adventure on the wagon trail? Will her dreams come true?
This is a very good book and it is easy to read.

SO YOU KEEP MOVING FORWARD

This has been a fascinating series and even thought this is a series, if you were to start reading this book, it reads well enough as a standalone. BUT, I would highly recommend reading all the books in order. We pick up where we met the group from Ireland on a wagon train to Oregon. Doctor Dean, Emma and her mother joined this group after they had stayed behind to allow Emma's leg time to recover. And as in book three, we ended with the kidnap of Emma and Katie by two Cheyenne braves and Dean and Aiden taking off in the night after them.

Aiden Murphy has loved Katie Boyle all his life. They grew up together and even their families have accepted that they would always be together. When her family decides to leave Ireland for America he convinces his family to also go. But Katie is a fiery woman in heart, soul and spirit, to match her flaming hair and wants adventure. This captivating adventure takes Katie to the Cheyenne camp where Sky Bear plans to marry her whether she wants to or not. Can Aiden find his true love, convince her of us love and rescue her from the Cheyenne. Learning the way of the people is heartwarming because it teaches them that in reality, all they want is to live in peace. We are not left with a real cliffhanger but enlightened to the next story in this fascinating series along the Oregon Trail.

***I recieved an ARC in exchange for my honest review***

OH MY GOSH!! Merry has done it again. The series gets better and better with each book. This book follows Aiden and Katie. E has been in love with her since they were small. She, however, doesn't want to love him because that is what is expected of her.
She says she wants adventure. While talking with Emma, she states how exciting it would be to find an Indian and run off with them. That all changes when she is kidnapped by one.
Aiden hears her screams and chases after her.
While with the Cheyenne, Katie befriends a girl named Two Spots. She helps translate and keep Katie safe. The journey she goes on whole with the Cheyenne is definitely not something Katie wanted. She spends her time trying to figure out how to get away.
The story is absolutely wonderful. I don't want to say more because I'll end up giving away the best parts. This is not a story that will leave you feeling disappointed. It's truly wonderful.
You can feel the tension between Aiden and Katie and the love that he has for her.
Will Katie admit that she really does love him? Will he find her? Will she get away from the Cheyenne? All these questions arise and all these questions are answered.
Definitely read this book, as well as the rest of the Hot on the Trail series. You'll love it(them)!!!

After reading the first three Hot on the Trail books, written by Merry Farmer, I can honestly say that Trail of Dreams is my all time favorite. With the perfect blend of adventure and romance, this story felt like it was meant for me ( although I know that it's not). With close friendship and heroism comes a romance you will not want to miss out on.

Katie Boyle and Aiden Murphy have known each other since they were just young babes from Ireland, now they find themselves traveling along the Oregon Trail finding their knew life. All Katie wants is to find adventure, excitement, to explore new things, and to find passion in the arms of her true hero. What does Aiden want? Just to have Katie love him and want to be his forever. What Katie doesn't know is that all she ever really wanted was right there in front of her. When trouble arises and Katie finds herself taken from everyone she knows and loves, Aiden risks his own life to get back his one true love. Will Katie and Aiden ever find their way back home to their families? Will Katie finally open not only her eyes but her heart to the one man who has been her hero her whole life?

received a arc copy for an honest review.

Book four in the hot on the Trail series. This book picks up with a wagon train coming by the way station where Emma and her mother along with Dr. Dean Meyers were waiting for Emma's ankle to heal. This wagon train was mostly Irish immigrants and Emma quickly becomes friends with Katie. Aiden has been in love with Katie since they were children, but she insists that she isn't in love with him. She is waiting on a hero, a man that she will have adventures with. Someone with passion. Katie and Emma are kidnapped by Indians. As Dean rides off to save Emma, it is up to Aiden to save Katie. Sky Bear is determined to marry Katie if she wants to or not.

Love this series. the books can be read as stand alones but they are so much better if read in order. Aiden was wonderful he was so much in love with Katie and would do anything for her. He keeps trying to find ways to prove to her that they belong together. It isn't until Aiden has to find a way to save Katie from marring Sky Bear that she starts to see him as a hero and not the little boy she played with growing up.

Sometimes the very thing that means the most to you is right in front of you all along only you can't see it. Such is the case for Katie Boyle, who has been followed, teased and loved by Aiden Murphy all her life. The only problem is Katie doesn't want Aiden. She wants someone brave, strong and adventurous. She's come all the way from Ireland to America to find someone like that, but more important she wants someone who will let her be independent and free. Someone who won't suffocate her like Aiden does.
But when Katie is taken by Indians along the trail, everything changes. She is finding the adventure she sought, but in all the wrong ways and now, she has no idea what will happen to her.
Katie's story was one I could identify with. I recognized that fear of being swallowed up or controlled by another person. I sympathized with her need to strike out on her own and be independent, even in an era when that was really frowned upon.
I strongly recommend this book. It is tied with the first book in the series as my favorite.

This is the fourth book in Merry Farmer's Hot on the Trail series. This is a really good series all the books can be read as standalone books too. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is Aiden and Katie's story. They have known each other all their lives. Aiden's family came from Ireland along with Katie's to start a new life in America. They are now all a part of the Oregon trail headed to an even better chance at life.

Katie wants to meet and marry a man who is adventurous and Aiden doesn't fit that bill. He is a constant in her life and she knows that he cares for her. He is just not what she wants!

Aiden has his heart set on Katie. He shows her how he feels every chance he gets. He has decided that he will give her that tiny bit of distance she wants.

When Katie is kidnapped but an Indian in the night, it is up to Aiden to rescue the love of his life. He is hot on her trail to save the day.

This is a story of realizing what you had right in front of you all along. Will they realize their feelings before it is too late?

I looked forward to this book ever since Ms. Farmer mentioned that she was writing it at the end of the last book. I will also tell you that I’ve been dancing at the edge of my seat waiting of it. And it delivered. Oh boy, did it deliver. I love Aiden. I loved him from Dean and Emma’s story. He’s passionate, loyal, playful, flirty and positively fearless. He’s everything that a girl dreams of when she dreams of her future guy. And he loves absolutely, positively, and unrepentantly. He’s shameless in his pursuit of her, and his persistence is something to be admired.

Ms. Farmer created a book that will be hard to beat. This is by far my favorite of her Hot on the Trail series. I will say that Aiden for all his heroic perfection is equal to Michael’s imperfections, from her book Our Little Secrets. And I can honestly say, I love them both equally. There are just some stories that resonate within you, and I do believe this...(https://textuallove.wordpress.com/201... the rest of the review behind the link.

Katie Boyle wants the adventure of a lifetime and a hero to save her. Her family leaves Ireland and decides to head west on the Oregon Train. On the trail, she meets a friend Emma whom she can talk with. While at Ft Caspar 2 Cheyenne braves abduct Katie and Emma during a dance. The Cheyenne brave Sky Bear who abducted Katie decides he wants to claim her for his wife.

Aiden Murphy has been in love with Katie Boyle his whole life. He loves her so much that he convinced his family to leave Ireland and travel with the Boyles into the Wild West. Aiden has always been there to watch over and protect Katie. When she is abducted, all he can do is react and chase after her and the brave, and try to rescue her.

Will Aiden arrive in time and save Katie, or will he be too late?

This is my Favorite book in the Hot on the Trail series. I love the witty banter between the characters. I couldn’t put the book down!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I had to laugh at the antics of the main character, Aiden, to woo Katie over. He was relentless in getting her to admit that she loved him and wanted to be with him. But through it all he knew Katie better than she knew herself it seemed. He was caring and did things to help her and she didn’t know, she just thought he was being annoying and pestering her. I think Katie secretly enjoyed the back and forth that took place between herself and Aiden.

I liked how the book weaved some of the history of the Cheyenne into the story. It showed the struggles that were faced back in the day and how you can’t judge someone by first appearances. You never know what secret that might have and it could surprise you. I thought the book was well written and seemed to be one of the better books so far in the series.

Overall I enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the next one in the series to see how the other characters fared.

I received this book for an honest review.

Ms Farmer has written the fourth book, Trail of Dreams, in the Hot on the Trail series. The book is very well written. The scenery is so descriptive that in the reader's mind you can smell the wook smoke or feel the stones on the ground under the bedding. The characters are well rounded and believable. The story is funny, full of action and romance.

Although this book is written as part of the series, it can be read independently and still enjoy the book. As I read the book, I didn't want to put it down and for me Trail of Dreamshas been my favorite to date of Ms Farmer's series, Hot on the Trail. Definitely looking forward to the next adventure!

This fourth book in the Hot on the Trail series by Merry Farmer is full of surprises, twists, and turns. The main characters are well developed from previous books but this book brings Katie and Aiden together at last in a way neither of them would have expected. Since Katie was kidnapped by a Cheyenne Indian and Aiden hot on the trail to find her, they both come to realize that after years of constant bickering and companionship, a little wild adventure is what it took to bring them together and realize their love for one another. I'm loving this series and was asked to read this book for an honest review. I truly enjoyed Merry Farmers descriptive writing style which draws you into the book for a more exciting reading experience. I'm ready for more of this series.

I won Trail of Dreams by Merry Farmer from Goodreads.
Strong characters, fascinating settings, and a well-crafted plot combine to create a wonderful historical romance in Merry Farmer's novel, Trail of Dreams. Protagonist Katie Boyle is fiery and independent, while the male protagonist, Aiden Murphy, is steadfast with a sense of humor. All the characters in this novel are well-drawn, especially those in the Cheyenne village. Among the residents of the Cheyenne village are a wise grandfather and an angry brave whose wife was murdered by white men.
Trail of Dreams is a great novel for fans of romance. I certainly had fun reading Katie's dialogue!

Music can be magic and Aiden is just the man to create it on his fiddle. Aiden has loved Katie his entire life and the two, with their families, made the trip from Ireland to America and then onto a wagon train heading west when Katie is abducted by an Indian. Aiden gives chase and once again his fiddle makes magic. Katie was rather annoying in her vehement denials and putdowns of Aiden but time with the Cheyenne does her a world of good. This was a fun book that I spent the day reading. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical romances that take place on the prairie.

Thank you to the badassmarketing for the copy of this book to read and review.

Irish sweethearts

"From Ireland to the coast of America to the Oregon Trail to the Cheyenne village, she’d discovered that the biggest adventure possible was that of the human heart." Chapter 15.

This is a delightful novel of Irish immigrants on the Oregon Trail. Aiden and Katie grew up together with their families' expectation that they will someday marry. They banter back and forth, tease and wound each other. Until a Cheyenne brave kidnaps Katie and Aiden follows to rescue her.

This story occurs in parallel to Emma and Dean's story and at the same time as Alice's.

I was asked to read this series and review it.

I have read all of this series and I am always left waiting for the next. Every book in this series is different but they do make reference to the other books. They can be read as a stand alone book but I would recommend that you read them all. Aiden has been in love with Katie since they were children but she wants an adventure and space to figure out how she feels about him. She gets both when an Indian brave kidnaps her and Aiden races to saver her. I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.

These stories just more interesting as I read. Katie and Aiden are Irish immigrants forging the Oregon trail in a wagon train. As we found out in book 3, Emma and Katie get abducted by Indians. Aiden takes off to find his Katie. She wants a hero, an adventure and to see new ways of life. This is her chance. They have their trials living with the Cheyenne. Aiden has his magical musical box to entertain and Katie's firey red hair is just fascinating. These stories of the ordeals of the early pioneers are addicting and Merry Farmer has a way to keep you hooked.

I received this book as an advanced reader copy. I have read this entire series, and I have to say that Merry Farmer really did a fantastic job with this one. Trail of Dreams is my favorite book of this series. This is the story of Aidan and Katie who are traveling west with a wagon train. Aidan has always loved Katie, but she wants to find adventure and thinks that a man would try to control her. This story has many twists and turns but keeps us riveted to the page. It has romance, humor, fear, and many more emotions all rolled into it. THIS IS A MUST READ!!!

Book #4 in the series - but still a stand-alone story if you haven't read the others. I was really anxious to read this book because I truly wanted to see how Aiden would win over his girl, Katie. The story line may sound familiar, but in the hands of Merry Farmer, the story is anything but basic. Another wonderful story that includes a wagon train heading west across America, Irish personalities, and American Indians, too. And all sorts of different kinds of excitement. You'll love this book; you'll love this series. Give them a try!!! I think this may be my favorite so far.

This is the second book in the series I have read and really enjoyed it. A lot happens in Merry Farmer's books but she is such a good writer the pace flows very smoothly. Even though it is part of a series it could be a stand alone. I would recommend reading the other books though to get more of the background. I am going to go back and read the first 2 books. The story of Katie and Aiden is very moving. Aiden knows he loves Katie but Katie doesn't know if she loves Aiden or not. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Aiden is quite the passionate man, "just a hunch,” he said. He couldn’t resist capturing her lips once more. This time he kissed her more deeply, squeezing her closer so that he could feel the length of her body along his." Katie is sassy, strong and knows how to wake her man up properly, "Katie hummed, grinding her hips against his length, and Aiden groaned before he could stop himself. Katie, his Katie, giggled. “Good morning to you too, Aiden Murphy." I liked this book not as much as the others but it was still a good read.

I can honestly say this one was my favorite of the series, Katie and Aiden have a wonderful relationship. They tease, argue and work together everyday during the long journey on the trail. Aiden know he loves Katie and is going to fight for her, Katie wants to find herself a hero. When Katie gets kidnapped Aiden rushes after her and her capture. They embark on a wonderful adventure, one that can make her the wife of an Indian warrior looking for revenge. Aiden never gave up in his fight for her love and I think that is what made this book a true romance novel.

For those of you who have not read the other 2 books, this could be an inside to wanting to read them. You will be swept away on an adventure, daring and cunning, with highs and lows. Katie and Aiden's story is full of laughs, excitement, adventure and trials. To read how they work thru the troubles they come across with language barriers, cultures, and prejudices is amazing. This is just a wonderful story continuing from the others that you won't want to miss any of it.
