I was a bit dissapointed with this book. These were not the style of stories I was expecting. I like the idea of different writers from different countries giving their take on Supergirl and mixing in their own local legonds.
This is a nice looking hardcover book, unfortunately all the writers seemed to want Supergirl as a 16 year old (in some cases even younger).
It is usually difficult to rate a book of short stories as the writing teams all have different visions of the charscters. Apart from the story from Poland I can't say I really say i enjoyed any of the other stories. This is more of a trophy book for the shelf then anything else.
Most of these stories are lighthearted and low stakes. They do a good job of incorporating the culture of each team. Almost all of the stories have really good art with some of it being great! Glad I picked this up.
"Supergirl. You. It’s you who helped me and share your light. Show me my home once again. Help me go back there. -- Thank you. For helping me. You who needs nothing from anyone. Thank you for reminding me that we are all children of the stars.”
Supergirl: The World is a collection of short stories from 14 different authors. Each author has created a story about Supergirl set in their own country and culture (we have stories from UA, Spain, Italy, Serbia, Argentina, Cameroon, Finland, Turkey, France, Poland, Mexico, Germany, Colombia and Japan). Through these diverse tales, this collection honors and celebrates Supergirl, DC's iconic Maiden of Might.
This was a super (heh) fun collection. As with any collection of short stories or comics, not all of them were total hits for me, but I also didn't dislike any of them. All the stories captured some aspect of Supergirl's character and reminded me why she is so beloved and so iconic. It was wonderful seeing authors and artists from different cultures celebrate the same character and use her to explore aspects of their own countries history or legacy or culture – for example, in Down in the Mine (by a Polish author and artist), the story revolved around miners and ended with the real-life Barbara festival in honor of the patron saint of miners which is a notable holiday for miners in the country, and in the story set in Mexico, Kara helped rescue Mayan spirit guides from tech which had driven them to rage. In the story set in Cameroon, Kara helps protect a sacred and important statue from white people who wish to, once again, steal it from the locals and take it away. In some stories, the setting was more significant to the plot than others, but all the stories also felt like small celebrations of the authors' lands of origin, which was cool. One of my fave aspects of this book was also how interesting it was, visually, since every story is drawn in a completely unique way, making hopping from story to story extra exciting. Not only are you always wondering what Kara will get up to next, but you are also intrigued to see what sort of art the next story will have.
As a Finn, I have to dedicate a section of this review to the story set in Finland called Strong Girls Can Make History. I was delighted to see a Finnish story included in this book! I never thought I'd read a story about Kara transported back in time to the early 1900s where she hangs out with people called Aino, Toivo and so on. The story also explored, a little bit, the state of gender dynamics in Finland at this time. The story is set during a time when Finland was struggling against further Russification and becoming more and more hellbent on independence. Gender norms were in flux at this point in Finland (women had gotten the vote some years before the year the story is set in), but women are still expected to behave a certain way and be respectable and reliant on men. Seeing Kara inspire the women of the story and shock everyone by being all mighty and strong was nice.
I know collections like these aren't for everybody. These stories are very short and you cannot really get into the world and this story's version of Kara. But I really like short comics like this because it's intriguing to see what aspect of the character or their world the author decides to focus on and how they get across what they wanna say with their story in such a short amount of pages. This book made me love Kara even more than I already did and determined to read more stories about her (both longer comics and shorter one-shots). It also made me super pumped to see the new movie.
The different stories managed to highlight different aspects of Kara's character. Stories like The Chicken (USA) and Touch Ground (Argentina) had moments that really emphasised Kara as an inspiration and idol to young girls and women. The story set in Germany (The Extraction) showcased Kara's kindness and how she does her hardest to protect innocents – in this tale, she is trying to find and save a missing alien before someone else can capture it. Her love of nature and the world in general is illustrated beautifully in Song of the Humpbacks (Colombia) where she protects whales from poachers. Kara's love for and bond with Krypton the Superdog is at the heart of Home Sick Home (Turkey) and Breathless (France) – in the Turkish story, she wonders, as the dog saves her: “What would I do without you, Krypto?” Kara's crisis of identity and her struggle between her life as Kara and her life as Supergirl is explored in the dream-like Italian story Dark Reflections, were she wonders who she is: “I have been told I’m tireless. ‘Not for nothing, you’re the one who can move mountains.’ I’m starting to feel like they’ve put a mask on my face that I’m not sure belongs to me.” Her role as the lesser-known and lesser appreciated Kryptonian superhero comes across in the way Lex Luthor ignores her Foreign Skies' Sun (Serbia) – he calls her "just his [Clark's] little cousin". In the Japanese manga-style story Superman & Supergirl vs. Chàteraesé’s Cheap & Tasty Sweets you get a glimpse into the adorable, playful familial bond between the super cousins – they quarrel and fight but then they eat sweets together afterwards as if nothing happened – and this wonderful quote from Kara: “It usually goes like this with my cousin, Kal-El. He can be an annoying nag… but we end up having fun.” Kara's playfulness and mischievous nature is celebrated in The Chicken (USA) where she helps a bullied girl trick her cousins into thinking she has powers, and in The Extraction (Germany) where she promises Clark, who is worried that she will act a bit too reckless, that she will be careful: “Of course, cousin. You know me.” – “And that’s supposed to reassure me how?” I love them.
Though this collection is focused on Kara, there are appearances from other notable DC characters. Unsurprisingly, Superman and Krypto make quite a few appearances. But Batman also appears, as does the Joker, Lex Luthor and Toyman (who manages to be truly creepy though he has but a handful of appearances).
I would happily recommend this book to anyone interested in this type of multicultural approach to DC's characters and in Kara as a character. Even if some stories don't wow you, I'm pretty sure some of them will. That's the great thing about short story collections.
Najukusnija Superdevojka: JAPAN (Superdevojka i Supermen zajedno probavaju japanske i internacionalne slatkiše - SOLD!)
This was a really clever way to celebrate both Supergirl and writers from around the world. Some of the stories I found okay, my favourites were the ones from Italy, as it focuses on anxiety, Cameroon, Turkey and Paris because they both feature Krypto and Germany, as I felt Kara’s character was perfect in that one.
A fun compilation of Supergirl stories, but not as notable as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. It was fun to see different stories by different authors from different countries though!
No hubiera vendido tanto.
A strange visitor from another world can get around. In this anthology, we see how Supergirl is viewed in different countries. Fun loving, free spirited, but ultimately and reliably heroic.
Beautiful artwork and some absolutely fantastic stories, which embrace the legacy of the Maiden of Might.
3.5 stars for this one (leaning towards 4 though for the sheer scope of ambition for this project).
Some of the stories could have been a bit more fleshed out (as many end abruptly). Hopefully this DC feature will ensure that these authors get the chance to tell longer Supergirl stories in the future!

If you loved “Star Wars: Visions”, you’ll love “Supergirl: The World.”
📖 “Supergirl: The World” 🏢 Publisher: DC Comics 🗓️ Published: June 2, 2026 📚 Length: 184 pages (14 short stories)
⭐ A Generous 4/5 Stars
Supergirl: The World is an anthology of short Supergirl stories written and illustrated by a group of comic book talent from around the world.
This is a truly international release and has a myriad of styles and tones and ideas. It reminds me a lot of Star Wars: Visions.
The art steals the show. It is gorgeous to flip through! Each artist brings so much passion to their contribution and the wide variety of art styles was a ton of fun. I read this digitally through Hoopla, but I can imagine it would look even more amazing in print.
There also seemed to be a lot of freedom given to the artists with Kara’s appearance. There are a lot of different costumes and hair styles in the comic. I love me an alternate costume! The writing in stories themselves are a bit of a mixed bag. A few felt a bit underdeveloped or overly simplistic for my taste. That said, a short comic is a challenging medium and doesn’t allow a ton of room for developing a compelling narrative. It was fun to see how each author highlighted things they loved about their home country. It was patriotic in the best, most international way (kind of like the Olympics).
I have a hard time being tough on this comic. Even if the writing is a bit uneven, the concept is a ton of fun and is a risky, expensive book to produce. DC absolutely deserved kudos for commissioning it. I love anthology comics where I get to experience a wide variety of authors and art styles. I really hope DC releases more comics like this one. I’d eat up a Batman: The World trade.

If you've read all the way to the bottom of this caption, don’t forget: you are deeply loved and you’ve got this, whatever “this” is today.
I get why this exists and like the concept of having writers and artists from all over the world create short Supergirl stories. But I think the reason this book never really resonated with me is two fold. One, comic short stories just always fall flat for me. Comics are almost always episodic in nature with each issue building on the last and these are all shorter than a one shot issue so there is never really much meat on the bone with any of these other than "Superman & Supergirl Vs. Chateraese's Cheap and Tasty Treats." That one was a manga delight and a nice way to close this out. The second problem is with the character herself. Her most iconic storyline is probably when she dies Chrisis on Infanite Earths. As a result these stories end up being way more about place than character and few of the writers seem to know what to do with Supergirl.
Not as keen on this as I had hoped. I found the whole thing a rather mixed bag. The art was not to my taste in a lot of these stories. Some of them, I couldn’t even tell what the heck I was looking at, but there were one or two that I found very beautiful. I’m definitely iffy on some of the characterization and didn’t really like the voice for Kara in some stories. The dialogue often felt unnatural, but that may be the result of poor translation. A lot of the stories were also either clunky, nonsensical, confusing, or hamfisted in their messaging. I’m also tired of CLARK’s DOG constantly being paired with Kara while Streaky is completely absent. Supercat is her pet! #JUSTICEFORSTREAKY
This was an absolute delight to read! Many of the stories were really fun episodes that drew out the most compelling aspects of Supergirl’s character. And a lot of the art was simply astounding. I enjoyed the chapters from Spain (Aneke’s art, coloring, and storytelling are superb; this was one of the best one-shot stories I’ve ever read) and Japan (absolutely hilarious piece with Superman and Supergirl eating various Japanese snacks, which poked fun at so many manga cliches and tropes) the most.
Like Superman: The World, this is an anthology. Creators from around the world turn in short stories starring Supergirl. Unfortunately, I don't think any of the stories did anything terribly interesting with the character. There weren't any that I hated, but I also didn't think that any of the creators made Kara exciting in her own right, instead of just being a teen girl version of Superman.
This volume contains 14 different Supergirl stories from around the world. That being said, all the stories are very short meaning that you don't really get much character development or arcs, but that's to be expected. Some of the stories really hit, but others really fall short. However, all that aside, it's really cool to see a character like this get international recognition, and for comic fans and fans of Supergirl specifically, this is a worthwhile addition to your collection.
This was so cute! I loved getting to read all the different stories and see Kara in so many different art styles. My favorite stories were Italy, France, and Poland. I love how they highlighted Kara’s strengths and her being a symbol of hope. Also, they touched on her internal struggles and how she doesn’t let them define her.
Okay, I appreciated that they mentioned Streaky, but seriously I need more Kara and Streaky and less of Kara and Krypto.
This was quite good and cute! I read the first issue from Free Comic Book Day 2026, I'm excited to read the rest of the series when it comes out! I can't post an actual rating until it releases but I think that it was good overall !
Horrible.
3.5 This was a fun read and I liked the premise of different locations, authors, artists and styles from around the world. As in most short story collections I liked some more than others.
