Sometimes the past leaves scars the truth can’t erase
Ameerah Sheikh is an eternal optimist, funny to the core, and the friend everyone needs. But just as she opens her heart to a man with a checkered past, Ameerah’s deceased brother’s name shows up in an ongoing investigation…and her trust in everyone crumbles. Can people overcome their mistakes? Or is innocence a fallacy in this dark and evil world?
Zain Ghazanfar has fallen far from his pedestal. From being the son of a billionaire, to a pawn in his father’s crimes, he’s loved and lost and almost given up—until a woman whose superpower is hope stepped into his life. But in a world that doesn't forget, can he really redeem himself? Or is love one more thing to be snatched from his grasp? As the shadows of their past entangle, Ameerah and Zain find that falling for each other is easy. But believing in love—that’s where their courage is born.
Set in Pakistan, Entangled Shadows is a tale of the complexities of family loyalty, trust, and the legacy they leave for tangled hearts.
Malika is a pediatrician by training. Born in Pakistan, she moved to the United States for her medical residency. The life of an immigrant physician—with a slight accent and a Brown identity—suspended between her birth country and her adopted one, has deeply influenced her writing.
When she’s not treating patients or dreaming up new stories, she’s probably chasing after her kids, watching crime dramas, or sipping real South Asian chai (not to be confused with the impostor known as a chai latte).
“Who said this book is long? I finished it and immediately wanted 500 more pages of Zain and Ameerah.”
That was my exact thought after finishing Entangled Shadows. It never once felt lengthy to me; it felt immersive. The kind of story you disappear into without realizing how fast you are flipping the pages.
Ever since reading Shadows of Innocence, I knew Zain’s story had layers that were waiting to unfold. He was never just the “antagonist” type; he was a man carrying too much silence, too much guilt, and far too many unresolved pieces of his past. In this book, we finally see him without the armor. His redemption is not dramatic or rushed. It is slow, uncomfortable & deeply human. He stumbles, he pushes people away, and at times he frustrates you beyond measure. But the beauty of his arc lies in the fact that his growth feels earned.
Ameerah, on the other hand, is not written as someone who exists merely to save him. She is grounded, intelligent, and emotionally strong in a way that feels realistic. She challenges him, calls him out when necessary & refuses to lose herself in the process. Their relationship is not built on grand gestures or instant perfection. It is built on conversations, silences, misunderstandings, patience, and an overwhelming amount of YEARNINGGG.
The letters and journal entries were easily one of my favorite parts. There is something about reading what a character cannot say out loud that just feels more intimate. When Zain poured his heart onto paper and Ameerah replied in her own quiet, honest way, it did not feel like fiction anymore. It felt real.
I really liked how the serious topics were written. Things like trauma, guilt, depression, and social stigma were handled very gently, without being exaggerated. And the side characters truly shine too. Fiza steals scenes so effortlessly & Junaid raises the bar without even trying.
By the end, I felt emotionally full, like I had watched two flawed people choose growth, forgiveness, and love even when it was not easy.
Entangled Shadows is not simply a romance novel. It is a story about redemption that requires effort, about love that demands accountability & about healing that takes time.
Some stories break you and heal you in the most beautiful way. And Zain and Rah’s story… I didn’t just read it. I felt it.
In book 1, we saw Zain on the wrong side of the law and the start of his repentance. Here we saw him raw n unfiltered. He is guarded, complicated, and terrified of becoming the very man he despises. And that fear dictates him. The way he loves. The way he withdraws. He doesn’t stay away from Rah coz he doesn’t care, but because he believes that he might ruin anything good he touches, that he’ll break her too.
Watching this man work on himself, choosing faith and goodness despite his tumultuous past, building his life n braving social stigma against him, is so moving. All coz of a sunshine girl who believed in him when no one else did. Who wrote him letters while he was in jail and gave him something to hold on to. That is what makes his growth and redemption so powerful and real.
And those letters… my god. I cried buckets. His pain, insecurities, loneliness, guilt, n that constant effort to change was all out there. How those letters were his only beacon of light in his life otherwise filled with darkness. How those words slowly healed a part of him. A grey character obsessed with the color grey. The depth of his love for her was wow. Itni mohabbat koi kisi se kaise kar sakta hai?
And Ameerah, sunshine to his grumpiness. Beneath her bubbly self lies a quiet strength. Quirky, chaotic, intelligent and hopeful, she saw him when the world shunned him. She stood by him like a rock, but she never loved him blindly. She questioned him and demanded honesty. The banter between them pure gold. She’s on a mission, prodding and challenging him to open up, even if it means trapping him in a room to talk so he cannot do another Houdini act. And the way she stood by him at their reception, owning him in front of the world… Atta gurl. I literally whistled. Also, her past was a mystery, and the way it unfolded kept me hooked till the end.
It was so good to see Osman, Sanam, Kiran and Junaid again. And then, there’s Fiza. Zain’s colleague and friend. The only one who gets him other than Rah. She’s an absolute firecracker, and now I want her story.
If you love stories filled with redemption, healing, a fiery heroine and her intense hero, chocolate parathas and chai, you’ll devour this one.
Zain from Shadows of Innocence (book 1) haunted me so badly I actually DM'd Malika D. asking how she created him and still sleeps at night. Her response? "I don't." Which meant this fictional man is out here stealing sleep from multiple people across different timezones. The audacity.
This man was genuinely horrid in book one. Not morally grey but morally "what color even IS that?" Yet somehow I was more invested in him than the green flag MMC, which is either a testament to Malika's writing or my questionable priorities. Probably both.
Entangled Shadows is his reckoning, and I read it like a person possessed.
So Zain is a former billionaire bad boy turned emotionally constipated mess, trying to claw his way out of generational trauma, crime family drama, and the kind of guilt that haunts your sleep. Enter Ameerah: a ray of sunshine with a spine of steel, who laughs loud, and loves harder. She’s the ONLY person who could handle Zain's level of brooding without running for the hills and somehow thinks this emotionally stunted gremlin deserves joy.
The romance is slow-burn. You can feel the slow burn, as in he’s trying NOT to catch fire while she’s handing him matches like “go on, darling, light up!” 🔥 Also, it’s closed door.
I highlighted so many lines my Kindle probably thinks I'm studying for an exam.😅
If you like your heroes broken but trying, your heroines unshakable, and your romances drenched in tension, secrets, and emotional intelligence…READ THIS BOOK.
Do you need to read Shadows of Innocence first? Technically no—but why would you choose to walk into a hurricane without context? You’ll survive, but you’ll miss the full emotional damage of watching this man climb out of his own wreckage.
Received an ARC from Malika (forever grateful) but this unhinged enthusiasm is entirely my own.
I knew about halfway through the first book that Zain was going to have to have his own book and share his story. It was just obvious. He definitely has secrets, walls, tragedies and some freaky family dynamics in his past. And here’s the book, thank God the author didn’t make us suffer forever waiting for Book 2.
It was worth the wait. Nearly 596 pages in just 2 days because I just couldn't put it down. Malika gives you all the feels & holds you captive with her words for sure. You will form a connection with every character in some way or another. You will cry for them, laugh with them, cheer them on, curse them for making bad decisions every single time, for all the longings. Everything . The character development in these books is top notch. These characters are broken, they make mistakes, that sometimes hurt the people they love right from the part one of the book. Zain and Rah show so much growth throughout this story, some of the best I’ve ever read. There were times throughout this story that I wanted to shake Zain, but throughout the story you start understanding his feelings for Rah and rooting for the characters to be together.
These characters went through so much with how easily I cared for them. There was a lot of angst. I loved the teasing, banter, inside jokes and obvious untold chemistry they share. Their connection is one that melts my heart and has you rooting for them to succeed, and gosh did these two work for it. Be prepared for a wild ride that will make you blush, cry, and obsess over these characters. The lengths he would go to, to even endure his own punishment for protecting her, can't put it down. The way in which Malika weaved this story that covered heavy topics such as abuse, addiction, and traumatic experiences was beautifully done.
She makes you feel as if you're immersed in the story, living these experiences right along with the characters. You connect with them on such a deep and emotional level and truly feel what they feel. You can feel their pain, their need to be together for each other. They both know what they really want and need to be happy, but Zain being zain made me yell at him. It is not a quick, easy journey for these two. Their lives have always been hard so of course a relationship was bound to be complicated & challenging. But eventually they cannot deny their need and they begin to realize that they are truly stronger together & worthy of love and support. They both are so damaged, but slowly they are putting each other back together and making positive strides towards healing. Their lives are not pretty. They have a lot of baggage and challenges to face.
It was a long, torturous, and painful journey towards healing and forgiveness. But it is also uplifting, heartfelt, and beautiful. These characters are so intense, passionate, troubled, and damaged. But they literally dig themselves into your heart
From the very first page, "Entangled Shadows" pulled me into a world where healing feels fragile, love feels earned and every emotion sits just beneath the surface waiting to break you open.
What makes this book unforgettable is how deeply it understands its characters. Zain's journey isn't softened it's raw, painful and profoundly human. He carries the weight of his past like a second skin and watching him confront it piece by piece is both heartbreaking and inspiring. His redemption feels intentional not convenient. Every step he takes toward becoming a better man is slow, deliberate and beautifully honest.
Ameerah, her strength isn't loud -it's steady, thoughtful and rooted in understanding. a warmth that steadies the entire story. She 's written as someone who meets him where he is, with clarity, patience and a kind of love that encourages him to face himself honestly. Seeing the world through her perspective adds layers of emotional depth. Her letters, her reflections, her vulnerability they become the soft heartbeat of the book.
One of the most beautiful touches was the way the author used the colors to express emotion. Shades weren't just descriptions; they were feelings, memories and unspoken truths.Even though I don't know any of the places mentioned in the story, the writing was so vivid that I felt like I was sitting somewhere nearby, watching everything unfold right in front of my eyes.
What stood out even more was how their connection grew through quiet moments - the shared silences, the unspoken understanding, the emotional honesty that slowly built a bridge between two wounded souls. It's subtle, intimate and incredibly moving. The darker themes like crime, trauma are handled with sensitivity and care. The world feels gritty and real and that realism makes the emotional moments hit even harder.
Fiza steals every scene with her wit and strength and Junaid brings a grounded charm that adds balance to the story. Their presence enriches the narrative without ever overshadowing the main arc. And if you're planning to read Entangled Shadows, you absolutely need to start with "Shadows of Innocence". The shift in the characters' perspectives between the two books is so striking that it changes the entire way you understand them. By the time you reach book two, their yearning, their choices and their emotional depth hit completely differently- in the best and most surprising way.
By the end, you're not just reading a romance. You're witnessing two people learn how to breathe again, how to trust again, how to choose each other despite the shadows around them. Entangled Shadows is intense, tender, suspenseful and beautifully written that feels both heavy and hopeful - a reminder that healing is messy, love is intentional and some journeys are worth every painful step
Dedication: "For those who survived who they used to be and choose who they wanted to become. You are brave, even when you feel vulnerable."
'Entangled Shadows' by Malika D. is a Romantic suspense thriller. It revolves around the main leads 'Zain' and 'Ameerah'. Right from the start the story grips you and one just keeps turning pages ,only to realize they have finished one of their best reads.
The character development of Zain and his redemption were realistically portrayed. it was heartbreaking and emotional to read certain scenes from his POV. His love in this book was Selfless and it truly showed that he consciously made this choice to be a better person.
Ameerah (Rah) was such an optimistic, humourous person that I really enjoyed reading her scenes. She was brave and had her own difficult journey. What I did like most about her was that she was not blindly in love with Zain , She thought through things , asked difficult questions that were necessary in the relationship and her love was unconditional. Her best quality was always looking positive side of the people and she was empathetic.
The banter and chemistry between both of them was so good that one can wish for more and more. The 'Letters' written by Ameerah to Zain really were so thoughtful and one who is going through existential crisis can really find solace in them. And the best part of this book was the journal of Zain that truly showed how much he was in love with his 'Rah'. There were no grand gestures of love but these little gestures that were so tender and heartwarming to read.
The Suspense in this book is really interesting that one can get totally involved in the story. Antagonist in this are scary and at one point they just disgust you. Dark realities of society is shown and one can gain a lot of knowledge about various things. The plot of the story is not rushed and it is medium paced.
I really enjoyed reading the character of 'Fiza' and her friendship with Zain. I hope to read more about her in future.
Kiran and Junaid were just amazing and perfect. They are just the perfect definition of a healthy marriage. Glimpses of Sanam and Osman made me want to read the first book again. I would highly recommend reading the First book 'Shadows of Innocence ' to deeply connect with this book 'Entangled Shadows'.
Overall for me this was one of the best reads of 2026 and can't wait to read more books by Malika D.😊

What did I just read?! Malika D did it again! She truly has magic in her words. The way she makes a book feel so cinematic is unreal. Every inch of this story felt like watching a movie unfold, and she did it with such grace - she ate and left no crumbs.
Her writing style is absolutely commendable and keeps you hooked no matter how long the book is. I finished it in just two sittings, and it put me through so much pain and so much heartbreak while I was reading. I’m still recovering from this book.
This is the second book in the series and focuses entirely on the redemption of our favourite villain-turned-hero (or anti-hero) - Zain. He was an absolute jerk in the first book, but then a ray of sunshine entered his life: Ameerah, our beautiful and resilient FMC. She is the perfect example of how a woman can change a man’s life simply by loving him, caring for him, and believing in him - even when the whole world has turned its back on him.
The yearning in this book is so beautifully done 🤌 that my heart kept screaming while I read, PLEASE GET THEM TOGETHER! This isn’t your usual redemption arc, and it’s definitely not just another contemporary romance - there’s so much more here.
The book has everything packed into it: unsolved mysteries, edge-of-your-seat suspense, the constant thrill of not knowing who to trust or what’s coming next, soft yearning, and the kind of pain that comes from letting go of someone you love for their own good. It shows how loving someone silently can be the most painfully beautiful thing of all.
I absolutely loved how this book left me unhinged in the best way possible, craving more of Zain (oh, to be loved by a man like Zain 🤭). He’s the perfect example of a man who can be a total cinnamon-roll hero when needed, while still being deliciously morally grey 🤭.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romance packed with thrill, action, crime, and mystery. Please pick this one up - I promise you won’t be disappointed. You’ll be addicted. This book is so underrated and deserves so much more recognition.
Thank you Malika Api for giving me a chance to beta read and ARC read this stunning book! To be noted all thoughts are my unbiased opinion.
When I first read S.O.I. by Malika Api, I was instantly enamored by Zain, and I waited eagerly to read his book. It wasn't because Zain was a green forest; it was due to the fact that he was flawed. So when I read Zain's story in Entangled Shadow I fell in love with him more!
Zain is a morally grey struggling and redemptive scarred hero. Redemption arcs are hard to write smoothly yet Malika.D has written it so tragically, poetically, heart-wrenchingly beautiful. And his bond with his 'Rah' makes your chest ache with warmth and anguish due to how beautifully she captured the chemistry, the yearning, and pining.
Ameerah 'Rah' was another character I adored at first glance she is this sassy fiery heroine who wants to 'fix' Zain that is until you dive into the story do you realise she is complex as Zain and together they are a formidable couple. She is an inspiration to many doctors to contribute to shelters and NGO's and I think if we had more doctors like Ameerah the world would be a better place. I absolutely adore her chai addiction and chocolate paratha addiction..
Now onto the story itself.
Sizzling romance, broken characters, a gripping mystery, tortured heroes, and character development.
Entangled shadow isnt just a book you read once and forget. No, it alters your brain's chemistry, forcing you to question yourself and the world. It delves into topics the world doesn't talk about more, unapologetically without giving you a moment to breathe. It's gripping, its heart wrenching. It makes you cry, laugh, and curse at Zain. It also makes you want to demand the author for your therapy bills that you will certainly need along with the cravings(to be noted i dont even like chai and it left me craving). The journals, oh my god i wasnt ready for that even the second time it hits you right in the feels as you cry over it. Without giving much away I suggest you read this book a hundred times and more!!
Ps: Please give me Fiza and Saad's book thank you..
This is not your regular love story. This is a story shaped by the shadows of the past, the weight of present choices, and an uncertain future.
Entangled Shadows truly has it all: Romance, mystery, crime, drama, and action. It took me on an emotional rollercoaster. From giggling at their soft banter to holding my breath during the suspense-filled moments.
I took my time with this book, and I’m so glad I did. I savoured every chapter, every paragraph, every word and it was absolutely worth it.
At its heart, this is a beautifully woven tale of redemption. Zain, the protagonist, is a broken man haunted by a past that refuses to let go. No matter how hard he tries, his mistakes continue to shadow him, tightening their grip until it feels almost suffocating. Watching him navigate a world full of corruption and deceit while searching for redemption was both painful and powerful.
And then there’s Dr. Ameerah Sheikh, a beautiful soul in an otherwise ugly world. She helps Zain heal, directly and indirectly, guiding him out of his past and grounding him in the present. She is everything he wanted, everything he needed, and everything he believed he could never have. Fate, however, had other plans, pulling two perfectly matched souls together.
Zain, drowning in pain and memories. Ameerah, a ray of sunshine, lighting up his dark world simply by existing.
My absolute favourite parts were the letters and journal entries. In his darkest moments, Zain finds comfort in Ameerah’s letters, and he pours the emotions he hides from the world into the pages of a journal she gives him. Those moments were raw, intimate, and deeply moving.
Their story is heartwarming in the truest sense. Seeing them reach their happily-ever-after felt like the warmest hug. I couldn’t have asked for a better ending. Zain and Ameerah finally got what they truly deserved—each other.
After reading Shadows of Innocence, I knew I was curious about Zain. I didn’t expect to fall in love with his journey. My feelings for him have gone in a full circle. I liked him. I disliked him. I hated him. I pitied him. And in this book… I understood him. That tiny seed of curiosity slowly turned into admiration. Zain’s character arc is beautifully written. He doesn’t change for someone else. He doesn’t seek validation. He works on himself. He accepts consequences. He carries guilt. And you can feel that weight in every chapter. His growth feels earned, not forced. And then there’s Ameerah — calm, strong, and the perfect contrast to his chaos. Their personalities are completely different, yet they balance each other in the most unexpected way. The prison letters and journals were some of my favorite parts. Zain claiming only “dumb people” write journals while secretly replying to her letters? That quiet vulnerability melted me. The writing style is extremely catchy and immersive. The inner monologues add so much emotional depth. Especially Jane’s inner thoughts — they felt raw, personal, and sometimes like they were written directly for me. And the banter? Full on. Sharp, emotional, layered. I genuinely believe their banter was their love language. The story keeps you hooked with its unpredictability. Familiar faces from the first book bring comfort, while new characters add freshness and excitement for what’s coming next. Even days after finishing it, I can still feel this story in my heart. It’s intense. It’s emotional. It’s messy in the best way. And it’s absolutely worth reading.
Some stories entertain you. Some break you a little before putting you back together. Entangled Shadows does both.
This isn’t just a romance, it’s a journey through guilt, healing, and the kind of love that feels earned rather than given. Wrapped in suspense, layered with emotion, and threaded with moments that made my heart race, this book kept me completely invested.
Zain is the kind of protagonist who stays with you. Flawed, guarded, and carrying the weight of his past like a second skin, he isn’t easy to love at first, but that’s what makes his growth so powerful. Watching him confront his demons instead of running from them felt raw and deeply human.
And then there’s Dr. Ameerah Sheikh. Calm where he is chaos. Steady where he is storm. She doesn’t fix him, she stands beside him, reminding him that healing isn’t weakness. Their connection isn’t instant perfection, it’s built through vulnerability, patience, and quiet understanding. And that made it all the more beautiful💖
One of my favorite elements was how emotions were expressed through letters and reflections. Those intimate glimpses into Zain’s thoughts added so much depth and tenderness to the story💌
With its blend of romance, tension, and redemption, Entangled Shadows delivers a love story that feels both intense and comforting. By the final pages, I felt like I had witnessed two souls fight their way toward the light, and honestly, that’s my favorite kind of ending💖
⭐️ If you love emotionally layered romance with a touch of suspense, this one deserves a spot on your shelf.
This book is hands down one of the worst books I’ve ever read. I’m not even exaggerating. It was so painfully sloooow like, this could’ve easily been a 20 chapter book instead of dragging on forever.
The characters? Insufferable. Especially Ameerah. I already didn’t like her in book 1, but I still gave her another chance and that was a mistake. There is no growth, no development, no brain activity. Like she clung to Osman when he clearly didn’t want her in book 1 she repeats the exact same embarrassing behavior with Zain. Forcing herself onto a man who gave her zero interest and calling it love? Be so serious.
Her whole “I can fix him” mindset was next-level cringe. Like girl his ex-fiancée couldn’t change him, but you think you’re special? Please stand up. The secondhand embarrassment was real.
Also, let’s talk about the giant red flag she literally acknowledged herself. Zain threatened to break another man’s bones just because that man had feelings for her and she was SMILING when he told her??? She even said it was a red flag.
Zain was just as unbearable. Half the book is him drowning in self-pity and brooding like that’s a personality trait. It was exhausting, irritating, and honestly made me want to scream.
I DNF’d this book, which I never do, but I physically could not force myself to continue. This book was a chore, not a story. Hard pass. Absolute waste of time.

When Malika asked if I’d be interested in beta reading this book, I grabbed the opportunity without hesitation. After all, Book 1 of the series, Shadows of Innocence, was one of my best reads of last year.
And… she has done it again.
Zain, who was introduced in the previous book, had already intrigued me. I’ve always had a soft corner for morally grey characters especially a reformed one. And in this book? He is the absolute epitome of yearning. His longing for his Rah beautifully reflects how much he has changed and how deeply pure his feelings have become. Watching that transformation unfold was everything.
Then comes Ameerah, the girl with an unbreakable spirit. I loved her. Her backstory and the suspense surrounding it had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Every reveal added another layer to the story.
Malika’s romantic suspense reminds me of the mystery books I devoured in my teen years, those gripping, heart-racing reads that kept me up at night. And visiting Karachi through her storytelling is always a nostalgic experience. She brings the city to life in a way that feels both vivid and familiar.
And how can I not mention the side characters? Junaid and Kiran are such a beautiful couple but Junaid? He is pure 🔥.
On the eve of its release and just in time for Valentine’s Day, I wholeheartedly recommend this book if you’re craving desi romantic suspense with high stakes, deep yearning, and plenty of chai. 😉
I gave this book 3.5 stars. I enjoyed this book and liked it a lot however it unfortunately just wasn't a showstopper or anything outstanding. I really enjoyed reading a romance not based in America or London for once and showing a completely different perspective on relationships and a wedding.
Another aspect I liked was the action and adventure storyline, however, it did feel as though it dragged a little bit. The tension was there but the suspense wasn't for me and that is what drives a book like this to a 4 or 5 star read for me.
Quotes and Notes "Should I tell her she's the secret you're in love with?" My reaction: uhh yes. drama.
'You know, I never forgot what you looked like. But I am 100% sure you were never this beautiful. It's not fair, Rah. I can't look away.' My reaction: the silent ones are always the best ones aren't they?
"I know who I am. Yours." My reaction: perfection
'Fiancé?' ... "Yes, that's me. I am Rah's fiancé. The only man she wants." My reaction: awww what a little cutie.
What to expect 💌 brooding x sunshine 💌 tortured hero 💌 doctor fmc 💌 redemption arc 💌 mutual healing 💌 witty banter 💌 high stakes
Thank you to Epica Books PR and Malika D. for the chance to read this ARC. This review is entirely based off of my own opinions and not influenced in any way by this opportunity.
“I thought I could save both—Rah’s letters and my life.”
You know you have an incredible piece of work in your hand, when the first line of the book is this hauntingly beautiful.
Shadow of innocence is that book where a part of you wants to read is ASAP, to know what happened , but another part wants to feel ever word of it. Yet, when you'll finish it, it'll stay with you long after you read the last line ❤️
Remember, To love is for courageous and this story is about Love . It'll show and teach you different versions of love and how it is correct in its every form. The story speaks about dread, the existing pain and how dying is not the way to deal with it. Losing everything can mean gaining much more.
Malika is a word, with her excellent writing evoke such strong feelings that we lose the track if reality and get fully engrossed in her world. You read her Once and you'll find yourself coming back to her again and again❤️
The story is a wholesome journey. There is gazillion other meanings hidden in it. And not in one read, but surely no matter what phase of life you are undergoing, reading Entangled Shadows makes you find unsaid answers.
Thank you Malika D. and Epica Book PR for the ARC Copy.
This book had been my most anticipated book for February. It is about healing, Love, Strength, Acceptance.
I loved Zain's Character since the first book. He had a lot of trauma, baggage from who is as a person because of his father, his own actions. His Redemption arc was very well written.
Ameerah or Zain's Rah is struggling with her own trauma, but always a hope in Zain's life. I loved her quirkiness, the banter between them so much. I loved the letters he wrote his Rah in his darkest moments. As she's his only light! Their Banter is everything! Rah.. challenging Zain’s inner demons and refusing to give up on him is so wholesome! Zain supporting her inner turmoil and worshipping the ground she walks on... I expect nothing less from him!!
As usual Malika's writing is so good! I love seeing the family living their life happily. One scene where Kiran pulls Zain for family picture.. It stayed with me. It's such a small detail but it had my heart.
Fiza.. I would love have her own book! The thing about Malika's stories you can always expect strong female characters!! Loved reading the lives of of OG couples! Danish is another character I would love to read more about!
Entangled Shadows hits the sweet spot between atmospheric fantasy and emotional depth. What drew me in first was how the world feels lived‑in — rich shadows, whispered secrets, and a tension that hangs over every scene like dusk before night. It doesn’t rely on elaborate world‑building for its own sake — every detail feels purposeful and tied to the story’s heart.
But what really sells this book is the characters. They don’t just exist in the world — they struggle, evolve, and feel like people you could almost meet. Their choices don’t always make sense at first, and that’s what makes their growth compelling. You’re rooting for them without ignoring their flaws.
The pacing keeps you curious. There are quieter moments where you get to breathe, reflect, and truly invest in the dynamics, followed by chapters where stakes spike and emotions hit harder than you expect.
If you like fantasy with layers — where shadows are more than scenery, and the emotional and mystical are deeply intertwined — this one’s worth your time.
Recived an ARC from this author and this is my honest review of Entangled Shadows
Back in the world of Karachi, 5 years after the events of Shadows of Innocence and this time we are following Zain & Ameerah x Their story is so pure and an Redemption Arc worth the ages x Getting a more in depth understanding of Zain's world as an adult shows such growth and independence to change not only how you view yourself but how the past doesnt determine our futures x Ameerah is such a sweetheart that is truely the best person for Zain in everyday someone can be made for one another x
I enjoyed how we also got to read about the characters from Shaodws of Innocence without this foreshadowing Zain & Ameerah's story as well as meeting new friends & family within a world of corruption x The author has done so well to bring the world of Pakistan into a true story of every day lives x Perfection on Paper xxxxxx
I can’t believe the author did it again! I was obsessed with how beautifully written Shadows of Innocence was and that same captivating writing came through in Entangled Shadows. I felt immediately immersed into Zain and Ameerah’s worlds from the first page and found myself reading well into the night to delve into their stories further. I really admire how raw the characters felt and how their development played out throughout the book. The author does a beautiful job of making Zain a real person with real faults and shortcomings, yet making the reader fall in love with him and rooting for him. I also loved how relatable Ameerah was with her strong, bold, ambitious personality, yet softness that contrasted with Zain. The author’s language is so poetic and she allows the reader to really feel the emotions of the characters-their pain, their trauma, their joy. What an incredible journey!
It all started when I picked up Shadows of Innocence and FINALLY we got Zain's story. Thank you Malika D for writing such an amazing book. I literally binge read this book. It's so good.
What I loved the most? Ameerah and Zain obviously. I love this sassy, intelligent and funny doctor who owns Zain's heart. The suspense? So well done. I also think Zain has one of the best redemption arcs I've ever read. That man literally got on a cargo plane to reach her!! That's gold standard.
I highly recommend Entangled Shadows if you love romance, suspense, banter and tortured heroes. Thank you Epica Book PR & Malika D for the arc.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Entangled Shadows – Mallika D. I read Entangled Shadows as an ARC e-book, and it turned out to be a deeply engaging read. The story takes a little time to settle in, but once it does, it becomes hard to put down.
This book is more than just romance—it beautifully blends emotional depth, suspense, healing, and self-discovery. The grumpy × sunshine dynamic works so well, and both the main characters feel layered, real, and memorable. What stood out most to me was the writing—nothing felt unnecessary or skippable—and the subtle way women empowerment was woven into the story. A heartfelt, immersive read that stays with you.
I first fell in love with this author, She has very quickly become my new favorite, when I read the first book, Shadows of Innocence. She set the tone so beautifully for a absolutely heartbreaking read that you just can't put down. Entangled Shadows was even more heartbreaking when it comes to the beauty of the letters to Ameerah that were never supposed to be seen by anyone else but Zain. From the depth to the characters, to the pacing of the story, literally everything about this series is an absolute masterpiece. Already working on a full re-read. 5 out of 5 stars. 10/10. seriously I can't get enough of this book
I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts are my own
Whew we went through such a wild ride with Zain in book 1, I wasn’t sure he would be redeemable. I was proud to witness his redemption story and I was also proud of Ameerah for acknowledging both his past and his present when she assesses him as a potential partner. I love how their story developed and grew over time.
The crime/suspense aspect had a chokehold on me and I could NOT put this book down. I cannot WAIT to see what happens next with Fiza!
A masterclass in second-chance romance. At a time when narratives often blur into one another, the author delivers something rare a story layered with redemption, emotional complexity, and striking insight into politics and human relationships. Love, envy, jealousy, and vulnerability coexist beautifully within these pages.
Zain My sweet summer child you deserve to learn, to evolve, to begin again.
An unforgettable read. I eagerly await the author’s next work.
Thank you Epica Book PR and Malika D for the review. This arc was an amazing read.
I really enjoyed the suspense parts a lot. And Zain is like a bollywood hero. I loved his redemption arc and I'm so glad he got his happy ending with Aimy.
It was also good to see Osman and Sanam pop up between chapters along with Kiran and Junaid.
The reply to this, let me tell you…🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼 I think it single-handedly ensured that I forget about how long the book is, get to the epilogue with ease, and still want more! Every witty retort, every caring gesture, and two beautiful people; everything, my absolutely favourite!
“I wasn’t the good guy. My monsters were still alive. And I sure didn’t deserve anyone at all.”
As much as we love a flawed hero, I think we truly appreciate a supportive heroine who sticks around even with her impatience and chaos. Especially with her impatience and chaos. Because when those barriers finally fall away, it leaves behind two people meant for each other despite everything else.
Thank you @epicabookpr and @malikadauthor for letting me be an advance reader for this one. Thank you so so sooooo much!! 💜
“Rah was once merely a dream. Loving her forced me to become the man worthy of holding her in my arms"
4.5⭐
Redemption stories have always been some of my favourite books but only very few are written in such a way that you want to stay in that world, keep reading and re-reading. This book, is definitely one of those very few.
You have to read Book 1, Shadows Of Innocence ( available on KU) to understand the impact of Zain, the MMC's redemption and why it was very necessary. But what you will also appreciate as a reader is that you can find little tid bits of Zain in the first book itself, such that his redemption doesn't look like it comes out of nowhere, there is a story and this book expands why.
Ameerah, the FMC is some one who wins your heart from the get go. A doctor with a heart of gold and a soul that shines light and hope for the world. She holds her pain close to her heart, and only gives out Good to the world. When she runs into Zain, she doesn't know she is becoming the only ray of hope in his life, his Rah, his path. She is just being herself. But one person's kindness and the ability to forgive and see someone beyond their worst mistakes changes a life in the grand scheme of things.
Zain and Ameerah's story, is not just romance. It's not just a redemption story in words. We aren't told anything, we are shown and that makes the story so beautiful and heartfelt. They are two people who are living their lives that become entangled at some point. Their families, their pasts, their friends - a lot of it is entangled. It makes their happily ever after that much more sweet.
The side characters add their own charm. Seeing Sanam happy after everything made my day. Kiran and Junaid together were everything to me. Shifa was such an interesting character and I am so excited for her story next ( academic rivals Hello????)
All I am saying is, read the books. Both of them. If you like high emotional stakes and characters with emotional quotient and a story that is as much plot driven as it is character driven - trust me, this is it. READ THEM TODAY!
“I know now what selfless love is: letting go when you are unworthy of someone...goodbye.”
The moment I was utterly and completely gone for zain!! This book felt like reading letters soaked in longing, love that lingers in silence and two souls finding their way back through pain and pride. Zain and Rah's story isn't loud, it's soft, aching and deeply personal.
Zain truly is the definition of yearning. The way he loves his Rah, that silent, quiet love that doesn't demand anything in return - it just exists and somehow brings peace in this world of chaos.
And Ameerah? I LOVE how she saw the real him when the world chose to see a villain.
The best part of their story was definitely the letters. As an old school soul, this is something I've always craved and the way it's portrayed in this book is simply beautiful. I've more than 1000 highlights on my Kindle- proof of how much I loved this book! PS: Hoping to get a book for our beautiful badass fiza soon!
