Malika is a pediatrician by training. Born in Pakistan, she moved to the United States for her medical residency. The life of an immigrant physician—with a slight accent and a Brown identity—suspended between her birth country and her adopted one, has deeply influenced her writing.

When she’s not treating patients or dreaming up new stories, she’s probably chasing after her kids, watching crime dramas, or sipping real South Asian chai (not to be confused with the impostor known as a chai latte).

Some stories break you and heal you in the most beautiful way. And Zain and Rah’s story… I didn’t just read it. I felt it.

In book 1, we saw Zain on the wrong side of the law and the start of his repentance. Here we saw him raw n unfiltered. He is guarded, complicated, and terrified of becoming the very man he despises. And that fear dictates him. The way he loves. The way he withdraws. He doesn’t stay away from Rah coz he doesn’t care, but because he believes that he might ruin anything good he touches, that he’ll break her too.

Watching this man work on himself, choosing faith and goodness despite his tumultuous past, building his life n braving social stigma against him, is so moving. All coz of a sunshine girl who believed in him when no one else did. Who wrote him letters while he was in jail and gave him something to hold on to. That is what makes his growth and redemption so powerful and real.

And those letters… my god. I cried buckets. His pain, insecurities, loneliness, guilt, n that constant effort to change was all out there. How those letters were his only beacon of light in his life otherwise filled with darkness. How those words slowly healed a part of him. A grey character obsessed with the color grey. The depth of his love for her was wow. Itni mohabbat koi kisi se kaise kar sakta hai?

And Ameerah, sunshine to his grumpiness. Beneath her bubbly self lies a quiet strength. Quirky, chaotic, intelligent and hopeful, she saw him when the world shunned him. She stood by him like a rock, but she never loved him blindly. She questioned him and demanded honesty. The banter between them pure gold. She’s on a mission, prodding and challenging him to open up, even if it means trapping him in a room to talk so he cannot do another Houdini act. And the way she stood by him at their reception, owning him in front of the world… Atta gurl. I literally whistled. Also, her past was a mystery, and the way it unfolded kept me hooked till the end.

It was so good to see Osman, Sanam, Kiran and Junaid again. And then, there’s Fiza. Zain’s colleague and friend. The only one who gets him other than Rah. She’s an absolute firecracker, and now I want her story.

If you love stories filled with redemption, healing, a fiery heroine and her intense hero, chocolate parathas and chai, you’ll devour this one.

“Who said this book is long? I finished it and immediately wanted 500 more pages of Zain and Ameerah.”

That was my exact thought after finishing Entangled Shadows. It never once felt lengthy to me; it felt immersive. The kind of story you disappear into without realizing how fast you are flipping the pages.

Ever since reading Shadows of Innocence, I knew Zain’s story had layers that were waiting to unfold. He was never just the “antagonist” type; he was a man carrying too much silence, too much guilt, and far too many unresolved pieces of his past. In this book, we finally see him without the armor. His redemption is not dramatic or rushed. It is slow, uncomfortable & deeply human. He stumbles, he pushes people away, and at times he frustrates you beyond measure. But the beauty of his arc lies in the fact that his growth feels earned.

Ameerah, on the other hand, is not written as someone who exists merely to save him. She is grounded, intelligent, and emotionally strong in a way that feels realistic. She challenges him, calls him out when necessary & refuses to lose herself in the process. Their relationship is not built on grand gestures or instant perfection. It is built on conversations, silences, misunderstandings, patience, and an overwhelming amount of YEARNINGGG.

The letters and journal entries were easily one of my favorite parts. There is something about reading what a character cannot say out loud that just feels more intimate. When Zain poured his heart onto paper and Ameerah replied in her own quiet, honest way, it did not feel like fiction anymore. It felt real.

I really liked how the serious topics were written. Things like trauma, guilt, depression, and social stigma were handled very gently, without being exaggerated. And the side characters truly shine too. Fiza steals scenes so effortlessly & Junaid raises the bar without even trying.

By the end, I felt emotionally full, like I had watched two flawed people choose growth, forgiveness, and love even when it was not easy.

Entangled Shadows is not simply a romance novel. It is a story about redemption that requires effort, about love that demands accountability & about healing that takes time.

Zain from Shadows of Innocence (book 1) haunted me so badly I actually DM'd Malika D. asking how she created him and still sleeps at night. Her response? "I don't." Which meant this fictional man is out here stealing sleep from multiple people across different timezones. The audacity.

This man was genuinely horrid in book one. Not morally grey but morally "what color even IS that?" Yet somehow I was more invested in him than the green flag MMC, which is either a testament to Malika's writing or my questionable priorities. Probably both.

Entangled Shadows is his reckoning, and I read it like a person possessed.

So Zain is a former billionaire bad boy turned emotionally constipated mess, trying to claw his way out of generational trauma, crime family drama, and the kind of guilt that haunts your sleep. Enter Ameerah: a ray of sunshine with a spine of steel, who laughs loud, and loves harder. She’s the ONLY person who could handle Zain's level of brooding without running for the hills and somehow thinks this emotionally stunted gremlin deserves joy.

The romance is slow-burn. You can feel the slow burn, as in he’s trying NOT to catch fire while she’s handing him matches like “go on, darling, light up!” 🔥 Also, it’s closed door.

I highlighted so many lines my Kindle probably thinks I'm studying for an exam.😅

If you like your heroes broken but trying, your heroines unshakable, and your romances drenched in tension, secrets, and emotional intelligence…READ THIS BOOK.

Do you need to read Shadows of Innocence first? Technically no—but why would you choose to walk into a hurricane without context? You’ll survive, but you’ll miss the full emotional damage of watching this man climb out of his own wreckage.

Received an ARC from Malika (forever grateful) but this unhinged enthusiasm is entirely my own.

From the very first page, "Entangled Shadows" pulled me into a world where healing feels fragile, love feels earned and every emotion sits just beneath the surface waiting to break you open.

What makes this book unforgettable is how deeply it understands its characters. Zain's journey isn't softened it's raw, painful and profoundly human. He carries the weight of his past like a second skin and watching him confront it piece by piece is both heartbreaking and inspiring. His redemption feels intentional not convenient. Every step he takes toward becoming a better man is slow, deliberate and beautifully honest.

Ameerah, her strength isn't loud -it's steady, thoughtful and rooted in understanding. a warmth that steadies the entire story. She 's written as someone who meets him where he is, with clarity, patience and a kind of love that encourages him to face himself honestly. Seeing the world through her perspective adds layers of emotional depth. Her letters, her reflections, her vulnerability they become the soft heartbeat of the book.

One of the most beautiful touches was the way the author used the colors to express emotion.
Shades weren't just descriptions; they were feelings, memories and unspoken truths.Even though I don't know any of the places mentioned in the story, the writing was so vivid that I felt like I was sitting somewhere nearby, watching everything unfold right in front of my eyes.

What stood out even more was how their connection grew through quiet moments - the shared silences, the unspoken understanding, the emotional honesty that slowly built a bridge between two wounded souls. It's subtle, intimate and incredibly moving.
The darker themes like crime, trauma are handled with sensitivity and care. The world feels gritty and real and that realism makes the emotional moments hit even harder.

Fiza steals every scene with her wit and strength and Junaid brings a grounded charm that adds balance to the story. Their presence enriches the narrative without ever overshadowing the main arc.
And if you're planning to read Entangled Shadows, you absolutely need to start with "Shadows of Innocence". The shift in the characters' perspectives between the two books is so striking that it changes the entire way you understand them. By the time you reach book two, their yearning, their choices and their emotional depth hit completely differently- in the best and most surprising way.

By the end, you're not just reading a romance. You're witnessing two people learn how to breathe again, how to trust again, how to choose each other despite the shadows around them.
Entangled Shadows is intense, tender, suspenseful and beautifully written that feels both heavy and hopeful - a reminder that healing is messy, love is intentional and some journeys are worth every painful step

The story follows Zain a man carrying the weight of his father’s crimes and the guilt that comes with it, while trying to find his own place in a world that constantly reminds him of his past.

The more I hated Zain in the first book, the more I ended up loving him in this one. The pain, guilt and emotional turmoil he carried throughout the story felt so raw and real. Watching his journey of redemption, healing and love was honestly one of the best parts of the book.

Ameerah was such a strong and lovable character. The way she slowly understood Zain beyond all the walls he had built around himself made their relationship feel beautiful and emotional. The chemistry and banter between them was so wholesome to read.
Fiza's friendship with Zain and presence of Kiran, Junaid, Osman and Sanam added warmth to the story.
The writing was comforting, emotional and easy to understand.

Overall , if you enjoy emotional, heartfelt story with flawed characters then this book is worth reading.

I didn’t know how to begin reviewing this book. While reading Shadows of Innocence, I found myself drawn to Zain’s character, even when he was acting like a complete jerk. By the end of that book, I was practically begging the author to give Zain his own story, and I’m so glad that wish came true.

If I had to describe this book in one word, it would be incredible. Just like Shadows of Innocence, this one also takes you through a mix of emotions. The adorable moments between Ameerah and Zain had me squealing, and I kept waiting for them to finally come together. I especially loved how Zain uncovers all the hidden truths about Ameerah,it made the story even more engaging. Zain has definitely earned a spot on my list of favorite male main characters 😁❤️

The best part of the book is how beautifully it transforms Zain’s character, something that I awaited from the first book. I honestly disliked him then but the more his pain, guilt and emotional struggles unfolded, the more I understood and connected with him. His journey of redemption felt emotional and incredibly human. Ameerah was also equally sweet and loveable. She was strong, comforting and someone who truly saw beyond Zain’s anger and brokenness. Their chemistry and banter brought so much warmth to the story and the adorable moments between them had me constantly rooting for them to finally be together. I especially enjoyed the hidden truths surrounding Ameerah and the way Zain slowly uncovers them which made the story more interesting. The writing style is simple but also emotional which is why the entire book feels comforting despite its heavier themes.

Dedication:
"For those who survived who they used to be and choose who they wanted to become. You are brave, even when you feel vulnerable."

'Entangled Shadows' by Malika D. is a Romantic suspense thriller. It revolves around the main leads 'Zain' and 'Ameerah'. Right from the start the story grips you and one just keeps turning pages ,only to realize they have finished one of their best reads.

The character development of Zain and his redemption were realistically portrayed. it was heartbreaking and emotional to read certain scenes from his POV. His love in this book was Selfless and it truly showed that he consciously made this choice to be a better person.

Ameerah (Rah) was such an optimistic, humourous person that I really enjoyed reading her scenes. She was brave and had her own difficult journey. What I did like most about her was that she was not blindly in love with Zain , She thought through things , asked difficult questions that were necessary in the relationship and her love was unconditional. Her best quality was always looking positive side of the people and she was empathetic.

The banter and chemistry between both of them was so good that one can wish for more and more. The 'Letters' written by Ameerah to Zain really were so thoughtful and one who is going through existential crisis can really find solace in them. And the best part of this book was the journal of Zain that truly showed how much he was in love with his 'Rah'. There were no grand gestures of love but these little gestures that were so tender and heartwarming to read.

The Suspense in this book is really interesting that one can get totally involved in the story. Antagonist in this are scary and at one point they just disgust you. Dark realities of society is shown and one can gain a lot of knowledge about various things. The plot of the story is not rushed and it is medium paced.

I really enjoyed reading the character of 'Fiza' and her friendship with Zain. I hope to read more about her in future.

Kiran and Junaid were just amazing and perfect. They are just the perfect definition of a healthy marriage. Glimpses of Sanam and Osman made me want to read the first book again. I would highly recommend reading the First book 'Shadows of Innocence ' to deeply connect with this book 'Entangled Shadows'.

Overall for me this was one of the best reads of 2026 and can't wait to read more books by Malika D.😊

Thank you Malika Api for giving me a chance to beta read and ARC read this stunning book! To be noted all thoughts are my unbiased opinion.

When I first read S.O.I. by Malika Api, I was instantly enamored by Zain, and I waited eagerly to read his book. It wasn't because Zain was a green forest; it was due to the fact that he was flawed. So when I read Zain's story in Entangled Shadow I fell in love with him more!

Zain is a morally grey struggling and redemptive scarred hero. Redemption arcs are hard to write smoothly yet Malika.D has written it so tragically, poetically, heart-wrenchingly beautiful. And his bond with his 'Rah' makes your chest ache with warmth and anguish due to how beautifully she captured the chemistry, the yearning, and pining.

Ameerah 'Rah' was another character I adored at first glance she is this sassy fiery heroine who wants to 'fix' Zain that is until you dive into the story do you realise she is complex as Zain and together they are a formidable couple. She is an inspiration to many doctors to contribute to shelters and NGO's and I think if we had more doctors like Ameerah the world would be a better place. I absolutely adore her chai addiction and chocolate paratha addiction..

Now onto the story itself.

Sizzling romance, broken characters, a gripping mystery, tortured heroes, and character development.

Entangled shadow isnt just a book you read once and forget. No, it alters your brain's chemistry, forcing you to question yourself and the world. It delves into topics the world doesn't talk about more, unapologetically without giving you a moment to breathe. It's gripping, its heart wrenching. It makes you cry, laugh, and curse at Zain. It also makes you want to demand the author for your therapy bills that you will certainly need along with the cravings(to be noted i dont even like chai and it left me craving). The journals, oh my god i wasnt ready for that even the second time it hits you right in the feels as you cry over it. Without giving much away I suggest you read this book a hundred times and more!!

Ps: Please give me Fiza and Saad's book thank you..

What did I just read?! Malika D did it again! She truly has magic in her words. The way she makes a book feel so cinematic is unreal. Every inch of this story felt like watching a movie unfold, and she did it with such grace - she ate and left no crumbs.

Her writing style is absolutely commendable and keeps you hooked no matter how long the book is. I finished it in just two sittings, and it put me through so much pain and so much heartbreak while I was reading. I’m still recovering from this book.

This is the second book in the series and focuses entirely on the redemption of our favourite villain-turned-hero (or anti-hero) - Zain. He was an absolute jerk in the first book, but then a ray of sunshine entered his life: Ameerah, our beautiful and resilient FMC. She is the perfect example of how a woman can change a man’s life simply by loving him, caring for him, and believing in him - even when the whole world has turned its back on him.

"𝐍𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐈 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐈 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞."

The yearning in this book is so beautifully done 🤌 that my heart kept screaming while I read, PLEASE GET THEM TOGETHER! This isn’t your usual redemption arc, and it’s definitely not just another contemporary romance - there’s so much more here.

The book has everything packed into it: unsolved mysteries, edge-of-your-seat suspense, the constant thrill of not knowing who to trust or what’s coming next, soft yearning, and the kind of pain that comes from letting go of someone you love for their own good. It shows how loving someone silently can be the most painfully beautiful thing of all.

I absolutely loved how this book left me unhinged in the best way possible, craving more of Zain (oh, to be loved by a man like Zain 🤭). He’s the perfect example of a man who can be a total cinnamon-roll hero when needed, while still being deliciously morally grey 🤭.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romance packed with thrill, action, crime, and mystery. Please pick this one up - I promise you won’t be disappointed. You’ll be addicted. This book is so underrated and deserves so much more recognition.

I absolutely loved it. 🫶

“Entangled Shadows” by Malika D is the second book in The Shadows series—a tale of the complexities of family loyalty, trust, and the legacy they leave for tangled hearts.

Zain Ghazanfar, once a puppet in his father’s games who hurt many in his anger toward the world, is now on a path to redemption because someone—his Rah—believes in him and his goodness. Meanwhile, Ameerah returns from the US to serve the unprivileged, hoping to ease her guilt for not standing by her brother when he needed her most.

Zain is all parts grumpy, avoiding Ameerah because he can’t face his feelings and believes she deserves better. Yet everything he does is to become better for her. Ameerah, fiercely loving and caring, is healing from her own heartbreaks but cannot resist the challenge that Zain is. He tries to stay away, and she, like a magnet, finds her way back to him. Their story is satisfying, healing, and full of witty banter, because the one thing they keep running from is their own feelings.

Zain’s determination to stand between Ameerah and death is heartwarming, while Ameerah unknowingly saving him when he loses hope gives us the mutual healing we needed.

The cameo of old characters shines, supporting the man Zain is becoming and his bond with Ameerah. With high stakes, compelling suspense, and secrets from the past resurfacing, the romance is a chef's kiss, their chemistry and Zain’s yearning off the charts, and their love undeniable.

A must-read for fans of healing love stories and for those who believe they are hard to love.

I knew about halfway through the first book that Zain was going to have to have his own book and share his story. It was just obvious. He definitely has secrets, walls, tragedies and some freaky family dynamics in his past. And here’s the book, thank God the author didn’t make us suffer forever waiting for Book 2.

It was worth the wait. Nearly 596 pages in just 2 days because I just couldn't put it down. Malika gives you all the feels & holds you captive with her words for sure. You will form a connection with every character in some way or another. You will cry for them, laugh with them, cheer them on, curse them for making bad decisions every single time, for all the longings. Everything
.
The character development in these books is top notch. These characters are broken, they make mistakes, that sometimes hurt the people they love right from the part one of the book. Zain and Rah show so much growth throughout this story, some of the best I’ve ever read. There were times throughout this story that I wanted to shake Zain, but throughout the story you start understanding his feelings for Rah and rooting for the characters to be together.

These characters went through so much with how easily I cared for them. There was a lot of angst. I loved the teasing, banter, inside jokes and obvious untold chemistry they share. Their connection is one that melts my heart and has you rooting for them to succeed, and gosh did these two work for it.
Be prepared for a wild ride that will make you blush, cry, and obsess over these characters. The lengths he would go to, to even endure his own punishment for protecting her, can't put it down.
The way in which Malika weaved this story that covered heavy topics such as abuse, addiction, and traumatic experiences was beautifully done.

She makes you feel as if you're immersed in the story, living these experiences right along with the characters. You connect with them on such a deep and emotional level and truly feel what they feel. You can feel their pain, their need to be together for each other. They both know what they really want and need to be happy, but Zain being zain made me yell at him. It is not a quick, easy journey for these two. Their lives have always been hard so of course a relationship was bound to be complicated & challenging. But eventually they cannot deny their need and they begin to realize that they are truly stronger together & worthy of love and support. They both are so damaged, but slowly they are putting each other back together and making positive strides towards healing. Their lives are not pretty. They have a lot of baggage and challenges to face.

It was a long, torturous, and painful journey towards healing and forgiveness. But it is also uplifting, heartfelt, and beautiful. These characters are so intense, passionate, troubled, and damaged. But they literally dig themselves into your heart

ARC Review 📖

This is not your regular love story. This is a story shaped by the shadows of the past, the weight of present choices, and an uncertain future.

Entangled Shadows truly has it all: Romance, mystery, crime, drama, and action. It took me on an emotional rollercoaster. From giggling at their soft banter to holding my breath during the suspense-filled moments.

I took my time with this book, and I’m so glad I did. I savoured every chapter, every paragraph, every word and it was absolutely worth it.

At its heart, this is a beautifully woven tale of redemption. Zain, the protagonist, is a broken man haunted by a past that refuses to let go. No matter how hard he tries, his mistakes continue to shadow him, tightening their grip until it feels almost suffocating. Watching him navigate a world full of corruption and deceit while searching for redemption was both painful and powerful.

And then there’s Dr. Ameerah Sheikh, a beautiful soul in an otherwise ugly world. She helps Zain heal, directly and indirectly, guiding him out of his past and grounding him in the present. She is everything he wanted, everything he needed, and everything he believed he could never have. Fate, however, had other plans, pulling two perfectly matched souls together.

Zain, drowning in pain and memories.
Ameerah, a ray of sunshine, lighting up his dark world simply by existing.

My absolute favourite parts were the letters and journal entries. In his darkest moments, Zain finds comfort in Ameerah’s letters, and he pours the emotions he hides from the world into the pages of a journal she gives him. Those moments were raw, intimate, and deeply moving.

Their story is heartwarming in the truest sense. Seeing them reach their happily-ever-after felt like the warmest hug. I couldn’t have asked for a better ending. Zain and Ameerah finally got what they truly deserved—each other.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this. 🤍

From where do I start this review. This book was so beautiful and so good that I couldn't stop myself while reading. Whenever I thought to keep it down I was like just one more chapter wouldn't hurt. I really loved this book so much.

Zain the cold, broody man who loves his Rah so much that he was ready to let her go. He changed himself for her to be better yet he was not happy with himself and thought she deserved better than him. He didn't realise it but he was the one she always wanted. I love this guy so much I haven't read the first book yet but I can say from whatever i understood his character change is so good and I love him so freaking much. I loved how he kept all the letters she wrote and found peace, solace, warmth and all the other adjectives. I loved how he blushed after watching her, how she was the only one who could bring the peace/smile on his face which he had lost.

Ameerah or should I say Zain's Rah this woman is the one of the best FMC I have ever read. I love when the FMC's in the book are strong they know how to stand for themselves. This woman has my heart. Her love for Zain was so pure even after everything, she saw the person behind him. She loved him even after all the broodiness he had shown, even after all the words he said to her (it was not to hurt her but to prevent her) Her love for him had made me cry.

Their love story is written so beautifully by the author. There was not even a single page I felt like to keep the book down. The other characters in the book I really loved to read were Fiza. Her character was the only one who was rooting for them to be together since the beginning except for Ameerah. Her banter with both of them was so good I enjoyed reading their scenes so much. There were so many scenes where I cried, laughed, giggled and what not. I loved reading this book so freaking much

This book made me feel so much.
From the first few chapters, I knew I wouldn’t be able to put it down. It didn’t feel long or heavy it felt immersive. Like I was sitting somewhere in their world, quietly watching everything unfold.

Zain’s story hurt in the most beautiful way. He’s carrying so much guilt, trauma, the weight of his past and instead of dramatic transformation, we get something far more real. We get struggle. We get denial. We get him pushing away the one person he loves because he truly thinks she deserves better.
And that’s what made it powerful.

His redemption isn’t about big speeches or sudden change. It’s in the small moments. The letters he keeps. The way he softens around Ameerah. The way he tries even when he doesn’t believe he’s worthy of happiness.
Ameerah was such a strong presence in this story. She isn’t written as someone who exists to save him. She has her own guilt, her own quiet pain. But she loves him with clarity. She challenges him. She doesn’t let him hide behind silence. And most importantly, she doesn’t lose herself while loving him.

The letters and journal entries were some of my favorite parts. There’s something so intimate about reading what a character can’t say out loud.
I also appreciated how the heavier themes trauma, depression, social pressure were handled gently. Nothing felt exaggerated. It felt honest.
And the side characters? So well written. Fiza especially she brought light into so many scenes.
By the end, I didn’t feel dramatic or shattered. I felt full. Like I had watched two broken people slowly choose growth, forgiveness, and love.
If you enjoy redemption arcs that feel earned, emotionally intelligent characters, and love stories built on healing rather than just chemistry you’ll really appreciate this one.

I’m honestly not ready to let Zain and Ameerah go yet.

Hi, ARC reader here,

I literally finished this book in 2 days, and I dont lie when I say i devoured this!! I liked it so much.
It’s a rare thing to find a book that feels less like a series of chapters and more like a quiet conversation with someone’s soul, That's how zain's character spoke to me, since i had read shadows of innocence, i knew Zain is going to be special and his redemption is going to me amazing. The best thing about Malika's books are that they aint just a lovestory they hold an intense plot, almost cinematic, which keeps you hooked, where every character plays role and has their own life and little things going. and her powerpack female characters ofcourse, deserves all of the praises. ( Fiza's character is growing on me, cant wait for her story)

𝓳𝓾𝓼𝓽𝓲𝓬𝓮 𝓲𝓼 𝓷𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓻 𝓰𝓲𝓿𝓮𝓷 𝓽𝓸 𝓾𝓼, 𝓼𝓸 𝔀𝓮 𝓼𝓷𝓪𝓽𝓬𝓱 𝓲𝓽 𝓯𝓻𝓸𝓶 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓶.

i have procrastinated so much in writing this review, afraid i might not do justice to the book.
This book might not be everybody's cup of tea, but for your EQ please give it a read.
This book is honest to a fault and cutest to the heart.

The character development is top-tier. You don't just watch the characters; you ache for them. The pacing is the best, best for deep reflection. Ameerah's letters were an anchor for all of us.

THIS BOOK STOLE MY HEART!!!! This book made me feel so much!!!!
“Entangled Shadows" is full of Romance, mystery, crime, drama, and action that It took me on an emotional rollercoaster. From giggling, smiling like a fool at their banter to holding my breath during the suspense moments!!! Like jaw dropping suspense and twist!!
I savoured every chapter, every paragraph, every word and it was absolutely worth it!!😭😭 the way cried while reading this book 🤌

Zain..OMG THE MAN HE'S!!! He has my whole heart now. I loved Zain's Character since the first book.He was an absolute jerk in the first book but i couldn't hate him!!! Zain’s story hurt in the most beautiful way. He’s carrying so much guilt, trauma, the weight of his past!!! His redemption isn’t about big speeches andsudden change. It’s in the small moments. The way he softens around Ameerah. The way he tries even when he doesn’t believe he’s worthy of happiness, worthy of love 🤍!!! There’s just something about him that stays with you long after the book ends!! And I LOVE YOU ZAIN👀🤍

Ameerah, His RAH!!! She’s strong, stubborn, sarcastic, sassy and completely unforgettable.I LOVE how she saw the real him when the world chose to see him as a villain!! She is intelligent, and emotionally strong in a way that feels realistic!!! 🫶

Their relationship isn't built on grand gestures or instant perfection. It is built on conversations, silences, misunderstandings, patience, and an overwhelming amount of Yearning!!!.I felt so deeply for both of them...their pasts, their pain, the way they carried so much pain inside them. Every interaction between Zain and Ameerah felt real!! 😩🫂

The story had so much emotion, soooo much depth and just the right amount of suspense to keep me turning pages!!!and honestly I couldn't put the book down!!! But the letters... My Gosh while reading the letters I cried soo much😭😭😭

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)

I received an ARC of this book, and I just have to say — this sequel absolutely exceeded my expectations.

After loving the first book, especially Ameerah as a character, getting to experience the story through her perspective added an entirely new layer of emotional depth. Reading the letters? Completely fine. Definitely not crying. (Okay… maybe a little.)

The way the author handled heavy themes like healing, forgiveness, redemption, and depression was incredibly thoughtful and patient. Nothing felt rushed or dramatized for effect. Every emotional beat had space to breathe, and that made the journey feel authentic and earned. Zain Ghazanfar’s arc, in particular, was powerful and deeply satisfying.

The character work deserves special praise. The side characters weren’t just background additions — they were vibrant, layered, and memorable. Fiza stood out with her strength and wit, and Junaid had some truly standout moments that added both intensity and charm to the story. Even subtle details, like the symbolism behind certain personal preferences and the sketch at the end, carried emotional significance.

I also appreciated the care taken with the Rangers and military aspects, as well as the respectful and open-minded portrayal of AIDS awareness. It’s not something often addressed with such sensitivity, and it was handled beautifully.

The dialogue throughout is poetic yet natural, and the emotional introspection of each character felt distinct and intentional. This is the kind of book you want to read slowly and savor — though I admittedly finished it in one sitting because I simply couldn’t put it down.

Overall, this duology is one I would wholeheartedly recommend. It left me feeling full, emotional, and deeply satisfied.

Entangled Shadows is a beautifully layered story that pulls you in from the very first page and refuses to let go. Malika D weaves emotion, mystery, and tension together so effortlessly that you find yourself completely immersed in the world she has created.

What stood out the most to me was the depth of the characters—each one feels real, flawed, and relatable. Their struggles and inner conflicts are portrayed with such honesty that you can’t help but connect with them on a personal level. The writing itself is vivid and atmospheric, creating a sense of intrigue that lingers long after you’ve put the book down.

What makes Zain stand out is his complexity. He’s not perfect—he’s guarded, sometimes hard to read, and makes choices that aren’t always easy to understand. But that’s what makes him real. The more you read, the more you start to see the layers behind his silence… and honestly, that’s what makes him unforgettable.

And Ameerah is the kind of character who feels deeply. She’s emotionally aware, sensitive, and incredibly introspective—always trying to understand not just the world around her, but her own thoughts and choices too. On the surface, she may seem soft and quiet… but there’s a quiet strength in her that grows throughout the story. She’s resilient in ways that aren’t loud—she endures, reflects, and keeps moving forward even when things get overwhelming.

Malika D is a very talented writer who touches our hearts and what I loved most is how she builds her characters with so much depth and realism. No one feels perfect or one-dimensional—they’re flawed, layered, and incredibly human. She takes her time unfolding their emotions, which makes the story feel more personal and immersive.

After absolutely loving Shadows of Innocence, I went into Entangled Shadows with huge expectations… and somehow this book still managed to surprise me 💜🌫️

As someone who already felt connected to The Shadows world, coming back to it honestly felt so emotional 🥺

There’s something about this series that makes the characters and their emotions feel incredibly real

And then came Ameerah and Zain 💔🌙

Ameerah is such a beautifully soft character 🌸
Even when life keeps hurting her, she still carries kindness and warmth inside her and that made me admire her so much ✨

And Zain… 😭
He’s the kind of romance hero that slowly destroys your heart without even trying
Emotionally guarded, carrying silent pain, trying to fight his own darkness while still wanting love at the same time 🌫️💔

What made this romance so beautiful to me is that their connection grows through emotional intimacy more than anything else ✨
The longing
The tension
The unspoken feelings

The moments where they understand each other without words
Everything felt so intense and heartfelt 🥺

This wasn’t one of those romances that only focuses on cute scenes
It actually explores emotional wounds, trust issues, healing, fear, and how difficult love can feel when two broken people are trying to protect their hearts 🌙

And honestly… that made me love this book even more 💜

There were moments where I smiled like a complete fangirl 😭✨
And then suddenly there were scenes that emotionally shattered me because the pain felt SO real 💔📖

Every chapter pulls you deeper into the story until you stop feeling like a reader and start feeling emotionally involved in their lives ✨

By the end of the book, I genuinely didn’t want to leave this world behind

ONCE AGAIN, I am speechless about the book I literally jumped straight to the 2nd book after reading 1st book 🤭🤭 because I couldn’t wait and I finished this in just 2 days.

This book again is a masterpiece it's full of thrill , romance, action, suspense, emotions etc. 🥹🥹First of all I loved zain and was so excited to read his story and the author literally gave him the best one 😘 . My poor boy struggled so much 😭😭🤧🤧 .

Zain— his redemption arc is beautifully written though I never blamed him 🫠 His love for Ameerah was so pure 🥹🥹 the guy maintained distance from her because he thought he was not the safe guy 😭😭 AND HE WROTE LETTERS TO HER EXPRESSING HIS FEELINGS FOR HER 😭😭🤌🏻🤌🏻

TRUST ME this guy is toooooo CUTE 😚😚

Ameerah, zain's RAH — was a character I will never forget she was strong, determined, funny , sees good in everyone 🫶🏻🫶🏻 first of all hats off to her humor I have laughed so much reading her dialogues 🤣🤣 her humor was so GOOD 😅

After reading Shadows of Innocence, I knew I was curious about Zain. I didn’t expect to fall in love with his journey.
My feelings for him have gone in a full circle. I liked him. I disliked him. I hated him. I pitied him. And in this book… I understood him. That tiny seed of curiosity slowly turned into admiration.
Zain’s character arc is beautifully written. He doesn’t change for someone else. He doesn’t seek validation. He works on himself. He accepts consequences. He carries guilt. And you can feel that weight in every chapter. His growth feels earned, not forced.
And then there’s Ameerah — calm, strong, and the perfect contrast to his chaos. Their personalities are completely different, yet they balance each other in the most unexpected way. The prison letters and journals were some of my favorite parts. Zain claiming only “dumb people” write journals while secretly replying to her letters? That quiet vulnerability melted me.
The writing style is extremely catchy and immersive. The inner monologues add so much emotional depth. Especially Jane’s inner thoughts — they felt raw, personal, and sometimes like they were written directly for me.
And the banter? Full on. Sharp, emotional, layered. I genuinely believe their banter was their love language.
The story keeps you hooked with its unpredictability. Familiar faces from the first book bring comfort, while new characters add freshness and excitement for what’s coming next.
Even days after finishing it, I can still feel this story in my heart.
It’s intense.
It’s emotional.
It’s messy in the best way.
And it’s absolutely worth reading.

Some stories entertain you. Some break you a little before putting you back together.
Entangled Shadows does both.

This isn’t just a romance, it’s a journey through guilt, healing, and the kind of love that feels earned rather than given. Wrapped in suspense, layered with emotion, and threaded with moments that made my heart race, this book kept me completely invested.

Zain is the kind of protagonist who stays with you. Flawed, guarded, and carrying the weight of his past like a second skin, he isn’t easy to love at first, but that’s what makes his growth so powerful. Watching him confront his demons instead of running from them felt raw and deeply human.

And then there’s Dr. Ameerah Sheikh. Calm where he is chaos. Steady where he is storm. She doesn’t fix him, she stands beside him, reminding him that healing isn’t weakness. Their connection isn’t instant perfection, it’s built through vulnerability, patience, and quiet understanding. And that made it all the more beautiful💖

One of my favorite elements was how emotions were expressed through letters and reflections. Those intimate glimpses into Zain’s thoughts added so much depth and tenderness to the story💌

With its blend of romance, tension, and redemption, Entangled Shadows delivers a love story that feels both intense and comforting. By the final pages, I felt like I had witnessed two souls fight their way toward the light, and honestly, that’s my favorite kind of ending💖

⭐️ If you love emotionally layered romance with a touch of suspense, this one deserves a spot on your shelf.

This book is hands down one of the worst books I’ve ever read. I’m not even exaggerating. It was so painfully sloooow like, this could’ve easily been a 20 chapter book instead of dragging on forever.

The characters? Insufferable. Especially Ameerah. I already didn’t like her in book 1, but I still gave her another chance and that was a mistake. There is no growth, no development, no brain activity. Like she clung to Osman when he clearly didn’t want her in book 1 she repeats the exact same embarrassing behavior with Zain. Forcing herself onto a man who gave her zero interest and calling it love? Be so serious.

Her whole “I can fix him” mindset was next-level cringe. Like girl his ex-fiancée couldn’t change him, but you think you’re special? Please stand up. The secondhand embarrassment was real.

Also, let’s talk about the giant red flag she literally acknowledged herself. Zain threatened to break another man’s bones just because that man had feelings for her and she was SMILING when he told her??? She even said it was a red flag.

Zain was just as unbearable. Half the book is him drowning in self-pity and brooding like that’s a personality trait. It was exhausting, irritating, and honestly made me want to scream.

I DNF’d this book, which I never do, but I physically could not force myself to continue. This book was a chore, not a story. Hard pass. Absolute waste of time.

When Malika asked if I’d be interested in beta reading this book, I grabbed the opportunity without hesitation. After all, Book 1 of the series, Shadows of Innocence, was one of my best reads of last year.

And… she has done it again.

Zain, who was introduced in the previous book, had already intrigued me. I’ve always had a soft corner for morally grey characters especially a reformed one. And in this book? He is the absolute epitome of yearning. His longing for his Rah beautifully reflects how much he has changed and how deeply pure his feelings have become. Watching that transformation unfold was everything.

Then comes Ameerah, the girl with an unbreakable spirit. I loved her. Her backstory and the suspense surrounding it had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Every reveal added another layer to the story.

Malika’s romantic suspense reminds me of the mystery books I devoured in my teen years, those gripping, heart-racing reads that kept me up at night. And visiting Karachi through her storytelling is always a nostalgic experience. She brings the city to life in a way that feels both vivid and familiar.

And how can I not mention the side characters? Junaid and Kiran are such a beautiful couple but Junaid? He is pure 🔥.

On the eve of its release and just in time for Valentine’s Day, I wholeheartedly recommend this book if you’re craving desi romantic suspense with high stakes, deep yearning, and plenty of chai. 😉

From the very beginning, Zain’s pain feels so heavy and real that you can’t help but carry it with him. The way he pushes people away, says the wrong things, makes frustrating decisions and yet… you can still see the wounded person underneath all that armor. It hurts when he keeps believing he is unworthy of happiness.... somehow the more broken and frustrating he became, the more attached I got to him. His redemption arc was honestly one of the best parts of the story because it felt earned, messy and deeply human instead of magically perfect.

Ameerah...my girl ... I adored how she challenged Zain instead of blindly accepting him. Also, loved how she understood Zain beyond all the walls he built around himself while still keeping her own strength and individuality. Their relationship felt so raw and emotional. The yearning, the tension, the letters, the late emotional conversations. Everything about them had me screaming internally. Their chemistry felt natural and comforting while still carrying so much emotional weight.

What I loved most is that despite all the darkness in the story, there’s still warmth everywhere through friendships, healing and the side characters who made the world feel alive. By the end, I just sat there feeling emotionally drained in the best possible way because this book completely consumed me. I already know Zain and Ameerah are going to live in my head rent free for a very long time 😭🫶

This book really got me from the start. I loved how it made me feel all these emotions without being too much. Zains story was tough to read it was sad and beautiful at the time. It was great to see him deal with his past and learn to forgive himself it made him feel like a person.

Ameerah was a character she was nice and supportive but still had her own thoughts. The way she and Zain got together felt real they built trust. Took things slow it was nice to see. There were many small things they did that made me happy.

The letters in the book were really something. They made the story feel deeper. The emotions felt stronger. I also liked the mystery part of the story it kept me wondering what would happen next.

This book was not a love story for me. It was, about people getting better getting chances and learning that things take time. By the end I really cared about the characters, Zain and Ameerah and I did not want to stop reading about them.
A comforting yet emotional read that stayed with me long after I turned the last page. 💜 If you love slow-burn romance, emotional depth, and redemption stories, this one is definitely worth adding to your TBR. 💕📚

ARC Review!

I gave this book 3.5 stars. I enjoyed this book and liked it a lot however it unfortunately just wasn't a showstopper or anything outstanding. I really enjoyed reading a romance not based in America or London for once and showing a completely different perspective on relationships and a wedding.

Another aspect I liked was the action and adventure storyline, however, it did feel as though it dragged a little bit. The tension was there but the suspense wasn't for me and that is what drives a book like this to a 4 or 5 star read for me.

Quotes and Notes
"Should I tell her she's the secret you're in love with?"
My reaction: uhh yes. drama.

'You know, I never forgot what you looked like. But I am 100% sure you were never this beautiful. It's not fair, Rah. I can't look away.'
My reaction: the silent ones are always the best ones aren't they?

"I know who I am. Yours."
My reaction: perfection

'Fiancé?' ... "Yes, that's me. I am Rah's fiancé. The only man she wants."
My reaction: awww what a little cutie.

What to expect
💌 brooding x sunshine
💌 tortured hero
💌 doctor fmc
💌 redemption arc
💌 mutual healing
💌 witty banter
💌 high stakes

Thank you to Epica Books PR and Malika D. for the chance to read this ARC. This review is entirely based off of my own opinions and not influenced in any way by this opportunity.

Beautifully aching story of redemption healing and quiet love💜

Reading Entangled Shadows actually felt like holding someone's grief and hope at the same time. The story carries so much emotional weight yet it never feels overwhelming because love softens every painful moment.

Zain and Ameerah completely stole my heart. Their connection wasn't loud or dramatic, it was gentle, patient and built through understanding which made every interaction feel deeply real.

The emotional tension in this book was unforgettable. The yearning the distance the unspoken feelings and especially the letters made the romance feel intimate and painfully beautiful.

The suspense element kept me completely invested. Just when the romance softened my heart the mystery and secrets pulled me right back into the tension of the story.

What I loved about the book-
💌 Zain's emotional redemption arc
💌 The soft slow burn romance between Zain and Rah
💌 The absolutely beautifully written letters and emotional tension
💌 Strong themes of healing forgiveness and hope
💌 Ameerah's warmth, humor and emotional strength
💌 The perfect balance of romance, suspense and mystery

Overall this book was such a heartfelt and healing read. It's the kind of story that leaves you emotional, comforted and thinking about the characters even after finishing the book.

This book....what do I say about it?My first read of May and I'm so happy that I started the month with a 5/5 book. This book has everything you need beautiful characters, a strong plot, mind-blowing twists and a perfect happy ending.

Zain and Ameerah, these two deserve all the love. Especially Ameerah......the way she has changed a man's heart, filled his sad life with new hope and gave him a reason to live and do something good for the people around him was so admirable. She's really an interesting character. She is beautiful inside and out, strong, witty, and funny. She's a complete package.

And Zain Ghazanfar the man you are 🤌🏻.One of the best redemption arcs I've read. The way this man has changed for his loved ones. Especially his mom and a certain crazy woman...I loved that he owned his mistakes and worked harder to gain forgiveness.

The letters…ahhhh🤧, how do I even describe how beautiful they were? One of the best parts of the story. The ending was so wholesome. I just loved how everyone moved on with the dark things that happened in their lives and found happiness together. I just know for a fact that this story is going to stay with me for a very long time.

Overall if you're still not picking this book up after reading all this, then you're definitely missing out on something amazing.
