Rate this book
Cedar Burke knows how to keep calm during chaos. As a twenty-six-year-old 911 dispatcher, she thrives handling other people’s trauma. However, behind the headset, her own life is unraveling.

Her first love, Tavrick Burke, is a sexy shell of the high school sweetheart she married. Damaged by the Army, fighting for disability benefits and suffering from PTSD; Cedar is doing everything she can to hold their marriage together. When she gets an opportunity with a big police department, she leaves her hometown for a big city offering more money and a fresh start. However, as she steps into her new role, she quickly discovers she’s not in Lake City anymore.

Settling into her new position, Cedar begins receiving love letters from a secret admirer. Sick of putting her needs last, she allows slow seduction to pull her into an unhinged affair – with a man who isn’t the man he pretends to be.

The youngest police Captain in his district, Captain Kashon Holsey, comes from a line of police officers. His father retired as the Chief of Police and his mother lost her life in the line of duty. Haunted by his mother’s sweet touch and his father’s strict hand, he buries his grief under routine and decisions that keep the city safe – all while he’s hollow. When Cedar stumbles into his office, a challenge with a sassy attitude and smart mouth; Kashon’s intrigued by her. He decides he must have her, and what the captain wants the captain gets.

Caught between a devoted husband, a sexy fling and a secret admirer, Cedar learns the hard way that every call has a cost, and the grass is always greener where you water it.

Disappointing

This book was extremely disjointed with a story that never flowed cohesively. Cedar was an unlikeable FMC, and despite the title The Captain’s Work Bae, there were barely any real interactions between her and the captain, Kashon. His intense feelings felt completely unearned, especially since she was far more involved with another coworker while married.

The handling of the husband’s mental health was disappointing. Given the seriousness of his condition, it sometimes came across like his illness was being mocked. Overall, this book missed the mark on plot, character development, romance, and even the "plot twist" and climax couldn't save the story. I finished it feeling more frustrated than fulfilled, especially since it ended on a cliffhanger.

Cedar cedar cedar tsk tsk. Gaslighted the shit out of husband. I wanted her to be so much more empathetic. She was a bit too quick to fall back from her husband. I understand her feelings with having to carry everything too, she should have talked to her husband before she was pushed too far. Letting Wallace get in your head, just for it to be used to your advantage smh . Now Captain you knew exactly what you were doing 🤣🤣

My goodness!!!

I was thinking the ending would be between Holsey and Tavrick instead he is handling Ny’Keem. I can’t wait for the next part. That prologue lets me know Tav will find out about Captain and his wife. Someone won’t have a happy ending. Cedar got a lot going on. She had a husband, a work husband and a work bae smh 😂

Encounters

There are different types of cheating, mental, physical, virtual or financial. Also a person can go their entire childhood undiagnosed with a mental disorder.

O’Sharra returned with a load of laundry after vacation and suitcase full of chaos.

😳

Chapter one I thought I figured out the whole book, but I was completely wrong 😂. Cedar went from a boring life to being in the middle of a hurricane real quick. Cannot wait for part 2!

The suspense in this book was so good NyKeem was not about to let Cedar walk away from him. And Captain Holsey wasn’t about to let NyKeem have his woman.
