Strip out the Official Guide part, and you've got a winner.
Frankly, for an "Official Guide" that spans 7 books, this companion should be a lot bigger.
However, the illustrations (although relatively uninteresting to me) were beautiful and the details that are written about each character, setting and book were interesting.
The section about the Lewis himself was somewhat lackluster, especially given how much his books (not just Narnia) burst full of philosophical questions and revelation. Reading about Lewis made him seem boring, and everyone knows he was anything but boring.

So I’m on the fence with this one - technically it fulfilled its obligations in terms of a quick author biography, book summaries and character summaries but it was all so basic and too much of it was aimed as background for the Disney film franchise rather than an independent publication. There were a few tiny bits of new information and I liked the inclusion of some of the letters that C S. Lewis wrote to his young fans but overall this was a bit of a disappointment. I’ve gone three stars because it is quite nice for younger readers to learn more about the books and their author

This is an excellent guide to the Narnia books, one that I would suggest to anyone wanting to gain a deeper understanding of Lewis and his craft. This guide goes into, not only themes of the books, but also characterisation, creatures and their original mythologies, timelines, the different lands, the books themselves, synopsis', and a biography on Lewis himself which draws parallels between life imitating art. Very interesting!

2,5. Luin uudelleen ennen kirjan laittamista kiertoon.

The book let me delve into to the world of Narnia--starting from the beginning, to the chronicles itself, and until the last days. It was a detailed book about the author, all the characters , places and all the symbolism. I was able to grasp more of the characters personalities and how they dealt with their adventure whether good or bad. I really like that this books has lots of illustration to accompany our imagination.

I bought this primarily for the artwork, which is beautiful. There is a bio of Lewis, and summaries of each of the books in the series. The writing is uninspired. I'm assuming this was a quick cash grab as part of the marketing campaign for the first movie. It's sufficient for it's intended audience, but I was hoping for a bit more.

Good for a middle school aged reader who is interested in reading a biography of C.S.Lewis and learning a bit more about how Narnia came about.
A lot of the illustrations come from the 2005 Disney movie, however.

I enjoyed this entire book so much I had to keep reading the note at the end from Douglas Gresham (CS Lewis' stepson) and the note from the author.
The book is the best word I can think to describe it," delightful.

It is really nice to read about the inspirations behind a author's work. And reading about Lewis' early life and up to when he finally started writing about Narnia was quite interesting.

I think my expectations for this book were too high. I suppose it did deliver about what you'd expect from an "official guide": a brief author bio, summary of the books, summaries of the characters... basically what an 6th grader who's read the books could write. There were a few (emphasis on few) bits of interesting trivia; some of the letters to C.S. Lewis from kids were a nice touch. But overall, this wasn't worth my time. I know what what happened and who the major characters are; I don't need 128 pages of review. As far as I'm concerned, this was a letdown after seeing all the advertisements for it in the recent movie-inspired editions of the Chronicles.

Part of my quest to understand the Narnia series. This is the second companion book I've learned from. I felt more insight with this book. For example I saw the meaning of Father Christmas and the effect it has on evil and winter. When Reepicheep throws his sword into the sea and it stands up is symbolic of King Arthur's sword in the stone.
What I am happy to ralize that is so in my face but my eyes were not seeing is that the series is symbolic of each of us choosing sides. Either we follow/worship God, false gods, the devil or ourselves.

Story:
There isn't any fictional story here. However the book talks a great deal about the life of C.S. Lewis and the life he breathed into The Chronicles of Narnia. I learned a great deal about the cultures that had an influence on the creation of Narnia. I enjoyed learning how much C.S. Lewis loved stories and the influence that they had on his writing career. Definitely worth getting if you want to learn more about C.S. Lewis and Narnia.
Caution:
Nothing to worry about.
Lessons:
Books and stories can have a powerful influence for good.

For Narnia fans, here's a nice addition to your collection. Much of the illustrations are taken from the movie but it includes a lot of Narnia trivia, many of which I didn't know and found fascinating.

We picked this up on MV Doulos on it's last trip to Manila.

A helpful guide to Narnia! Includes information about C. S. Lewis (his life, his friends, etc) and the books themselves. Would be a great resource if I was writing a paper about Narnia and its author.

Nice companion read for fans of Narnia. Made me sad that I wasn't born earlier to be able to write C.S. Lewis and receive a response. The book highlights some of his responses. I imagine I will "travel" to Narnia many more times in my lifetime - a truly timeless series.
