The Silence We Keep

Rate this book
Mara is barely holding herself together.

After her sister Lena dies, the world keeps moving while Mara feels herself coming undone. Grief settles into her bones. Memories surface in fragments. And the questions Lena left behind refuse to stay quiet.

Everyone tells Mara she needs rest. Therapy. Medication.

No one listens when she says something isn’t right.

As Mara retraces Lena’s final days, she confronts buried truths, about their childhood, about the systems meant to protect them, and about how easily women’s voices are dismissed.

What begins as mourning becomes awakening.

And when Mara finally understands what Lena tried to show her, she makes a devastating choice that changes everything.

The Silence We Keep is a haunting psychological thriller about grief, survival, and the moment a woman realises the world has been lying to her.

Perfect for readers who love emotionally driven suspense, slow-burn tension, and dark psychological fiction.

4.5 ⭐️This novel definitely kept me questioning everything by design. I spent quite a bit of time during the reading of this novel in the dark unsure what to believe or think, coming to realizations simultaneously with the main character Mara. I did enjoy this book and look forward to reading the other novels in this trilogy to find out what happens next.

I am still processing this book. It is a psychological thriller, but very different from other books out there. The story is about a woman who returns home after her sister dies and finds that the past is very much in the present. This is a very slow burn and if you are looking for an action packed book then this one is not for you. But if you are interested in a cryptic and tension filled story then give this one a go.

I am in shock!

I started this book, a new author to me that I came across on TT, and I thought psychological thriller sounds interesting. I’m gonna give it a go. Not gonna lie I started off very confused… and then I read this “It had taught me early that the water here was not something you swam in for pleasure. It was something you watched, something you respected, something that could turn on you without warning.” And then it started. Not just started but progressed. You know that feeling. It starts with that heaviness in your chest, the tingles of heat that run up your neck, the pit of dread/fear that grows in your stomach.

I found myself having go stop between chapters and play a game or something because it was just so real!! I needed to digest it and prepare for the what if’s that could be coming.

That cliffy I could do without, but I cannot wait to get my greedy hands on the next book! So many unanswered questions I need to know the answers.

WHAT AN AMAZING BOOK

I mostly read romance in English (is my second language) and I was looking forward to a story that could represent a challenge for me, not only on language or vocabulary, but also on structure, plot and character-driven.... This is fantastic!
I loved it so much and I'm going for the second book right away 💖

A thought provoking and captivating book following the story of a woman named Mara, her sister, and a system in place keeping secrets. Harriet kept me on the edge of my seat with this one. One of those roller coaster rides where there’s twists, turns, and then a big surprise drop. I was hooked within the first chapter. My mind was a whirlwind of “what’s going to happen in the next chapter.” The ending had me wanting more, as I need to know what happens, and if our FMC succeeds in her mission to have the truth heard.

“A final, devastating refusal to let the truth stay buried.”

A key thing to note, there is a lot of repetition. I believe it’s meant this way for a reason and for the plot line. The repetition allows you to immerse yourself as our FMC and what she went through in her childhood up until the ending.

I can’t wait to read Book 2!

"Good" I said "because I'm done being managed"

The ☆Debut Thriller☆

With its descriptive writing, this first installment brings Mara and Greyhaven to life in a thrilling way. Enhancement of the narrative could be achieved through diminished repetition and incorporation of a wider range of vocabulary, specifically utilizing synonyms for 'deliberate' and eliminating unnecessary words, though. The cult-tastic atmosphere of the Town Greyhaven is just right - eerie and unorthodox. Thanks to short chapters, the reading experience is smooth, and I'm keen on continuing the series.

The Silence We Keep is a haunting psychological thriller that blends grief, memory, and buried truth into a slow-burning, emotionally charged narrative. Harriet Warren captures Mara’s unraveling with striking realism, drawing readers into a world where loss blurs reality and unanswered questions refuse to stay buried. The story’s quiet tension builds steadily, exploring trauma, systemic neglect, and the silencing of women’s voices. Dark, thought-provoking, and deeply moving, this is a suspenseful read that lingers long after the final page.

The Silence We Keep completely pulled me in from the first page. As someone who loves emotionally layered psychological thrillers, this story delivered on every level. Mara’s grief feels painfully real, not dramatized, not rushed, just raw and unsettling in the most authentic way. You don’t just read her unraveling… you feel it.

An impressive debut with compelling writing and a thought provoking storyline. The suspense is well paced and keeps you engaged from beginning to end. While the ending leaves you wanting a bit more closure, it definitely builds anticipation for the next installment. A strong start for a first novel, and I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.

The Silence We Keep by Harriet Warren is a masterfully paced thriller that grabs you from the very first page. Mara sister Lena dies by her own hand or is it someone elses hand. Mara is loosing herself while everyone else wants to rush every decision that needs to be made she knows something is not right. As Mara unburies truths, from when they were kids about the systems meant to protect them.
The characters you will either love them or hate them but DC Ana is bringing the heat.
