How do I even review this? Nearly everything that happens are spoilers of awesomesauce levels for anyone who’s read Sentinel, so it’s extremely hard to review this book. XD I will do my best to do so without spoilers, however! *tries to be vague*

Darien, Sorvashti, Aleah, and of course Jet are back for more epic shenanigans. *hugs them all* Jet is my FAVE as usual! :D He’s awesome. <3 I’d say this book is primarily about Jet. We still get a LOT about Darien, since Darien’s the hero of course, but we get a lot of Jet’s POV and story, which I loved!! :D Darien is actually coming a long ways from where he was in book one. I was super impressed that he’s learning things and just coming further in general! *hugs Darien* I mean, he still has a lot to learn. >.> Ahem. But still.

IT’S SO INTENSE. *collapses* If book one seemed intense, this one was as much or more so. O_O I’m pretty sure I read this thing faster than I should have and consequently hardly remember bits of it, because I just could NOT stop zipping through those pages I was glued to! (Don’t ask about the logistics of this sentence. Just—don’t. Ahem.)

Other interesting thiiiings:

+ There’s a new villain who, can I just say, is very interesting. O.o

+ The settings range from snowy forested mountainsides to a tropical jungle island, so that was super cool!

+ Somebody loses their memory AND IT’S AWESOME AND HILARIOUS. XD That’s one of those “tropes” that can be hard to do well but I LOVE it and it was particularly awesome in this. :D This book is worth it just for that. XD *zips lips and says no more*

+ THE FRUIT. *dies of laughter* Nobody will understand this until reading chapter 14, but I thought it was epic. XD Ahhh, Jet is awesome. :D

Downsides?

+ It might be a little scarier than the first book... Maybe? So, kind of violent and intense, so if you’re sensitive to that sort of thing, I’d recommend caution.

+ I did miss some of the extra humorous banter of Sentinel. There’s tons of funny lines in this one too, especially regarding the memory-loss thing, but overall this one seemed a little more serious? Could be my imagination. Don’t get me wrong, there is still a lot to laugh at in this one, which I loved! But things are getting more serious in the world as well, so... anyway. I don’t think that’s particularly a downside, necessarily, just saying the books are different. XD

I’m going to confess that I did the unthinkable... I actually peeked at the end. >.> I KNOW. So awful of me. But I was SO worried I just had to peek and make sure a certain something would be okay at the end before I could settle back down and enjoy it. Ahem. Don’t be like me, but I thought I would confess. XD After that I was able to enjoy it, and WOW did I enjoy it! :D It’s just a blast. Some of it was just a wee bit intense for me until I made sure some of it would be mostly okay, is all. But I’m a wimpier reader than some, so. ;)

I still love this fantasy world! It’s more on the dystopian/post-apocalyptic side, with remnants of technology, fantasy things going on (so many!) and an emerging spiritual world and so on. I’m enjoying learning more about this world and history and the different races, and the different Aether powers—including a couple new ones we didn’t run into in the first book! I love these Aether “superpowers”/“gifts” and how they tie into the story. :D Especially the mind-y things, since those are the “Arbiter” gift, which is what this book is named after... largely because that’s what Jet is and as I said, this book is somewhat about him. Also, I was very glad I’d read Viper (the prequel novella) because there’s a bit of harking back to that... and I will say no more because spoilers. ;)

But but FANTASY THINGS. Which I can’t say anything about, either... I will merely say that the Serran idea is fascinating, and a certain re-appearance of a character near the end (watch for a fox) seems to usher in a whole new look at fantasy things which has me very excited! :D (WINGS THOUGH. Ahem.)

SO MANY FEELS TOO. *collapses* Let’s just say I’m super worried/stressed at CERTAIN CHARACTERS’ life decisions near the end there. *cough* NO. STAHP. DON’T DO THIS!! D: I hope they will turn out okay in the next one. *squirming* I’m positively dying to read the final book, Sage, especially with that last chapter! Similar to book one (Sentinel), this ended not exactly on a cliff-hanger, but more on a “wait, that’s it? I NEED THE NEXT SCENE!” sort of place. Verrrry much looking forward to the final book and how all of this is going to turn out! O_O Just so much HAPPENED in this book! *flails* I need to know how this all turns out! (I also want more of Thracian. Because he’s cool.)

Anyway, definitely start with Sentinel, but I totally recommend this book as well, and it’s just as good as Sentinel, and in some ways better! :) If you like suspenseful fantasy with a touch of technology and lovable characters and humor, that’s just super well written and generally AWESOME, definitely give this series a try! :)

My foremost complaint about Arbiter is the difficulty in putting it down to engage in real life!

Arbiter picks up right where Sentinel left off, immediately diving in to Darien's decision and the consequences of it. The story maintains that fast pace throughout, all the way to the final page. There's intrigue, battles, fascinating backstories learnt, island adventures and delightful character development! The ending in this book sets up beautifully for the final book, Sage, and knowing Mrs. Foley, we won't be disappointed in that final book!

I can't recommend this series highly enough. Fast paced, dynamic characters, unexpected twists and turns, a gripping story line, and all packaged together in a way that is still clean and family friendly! As an adult, I am on the edge of my seat reading it, and at the same time, I am recommending this book left and write for friends I know that are as young as junior high. It is with great anticipation that I look forward to whatever she decides to write next!

I had an opportunity to read an advance copy of this book, and it was awesome! So many trilogies fall a little flat in the second book, but that was certainly not the case with Arbiter. Foley ups the ante with higher stakes, more action, and new information and plot twists at every turn. The world-building continues to be superb, I enjoyed learning more about Serrans and Kai'lani. But my favorite aspect of this series so far is the complexity of the characters. Every character is a mix of good and bad, makes poor decisions but also has moments of triumph. I can't wait to see what the author has in store for them in the next book!

This book continues the Sentinel series!
The story is action packed, and I couldn’t stop turning the pages to see what would happen next.

Jamie does a great job with the plot!
I feel like I’m never able to figure out what will happen next and I appreciate that in a book!

The characters continue to grow and develop and I feel like I’ve connected with them and look forward to seeing how they continue to grow in the third book.

I’m immediately picking up the next book!

Arbiter is the second book in the Sentinel Trilogy, picking up right where the first book left off. Darien is given a new perspective on the world after his decision at the end of Sentinel, which introduces an entirely new and exciting set of problems.

The quality of writing in Arbiter has improved from Sentinel. The settings are painted clearer and the characters actions and reactions are even more natural than before. There might not seem to be quite as much action as Sentinel, but that's not the case at all. The action is just more emotionally charged and so I was reacting more to the character drama in the action than the action itself. The action in Sentinel is fun and immature because of Darien's involvement in it. But as Darien and the other characters have matured, the level of complexity and strategy each of the characters use has gone up too, making the fights all the more exciting!

It's difficult to even talk about the book with all the twists the plot takes. There are at least four moments in the book where something happens that radically changes where the story is going.

And now, the stakes have been raised for Sage. I'm not sure how the story will progress from here, but Jamie clearly has set a precedence: make the next book more epic than the previous. Enjoy!

I finished Arbiter in record time. I could hardly put it down.

I liked Arbiter even better than Sentinel. The pacing was faster, there was more action, the characters were developed further, there were some fun surprises, and there was more intrigue. At times, I wasn't sure which end was up. :) I was very concerned with a certain anti-Joshua comment, which gnawed at me throughout the book. My questions were answered at the end. It was refreshing to see how Jet and Darien matured, and I found myself chuckling at their humorous pokes at each other. They are getting a bit better with their reactions.

It certainly feels like there are only a meager handful of Followers at the end of Arbiter. I most certainly enjoy the powerful use of gifts and I would really like to see good triumph, not by the skin of its teeth, but by an overwhelming and unstoppable surge.

You have done a marvelous job, and I feel certain that Aeo will not leave any of his own stranded. I can't wait to read the third book of your trilogy.

Good stuff

I love this world and the people in it. There are no cookie cutter all good or all bad people. The POV does alter throughout the book to three-ish main characters but it is very easy to know whose head we are in as the voices are so distinct. I definitely recommend this series!

I won this and the previous book in a goodreads giveaway quite some time ago, I put it in 'the safe place' that you can never find afterwards and when I found them again, decided it was time to read. I wasnt sure if it was for me at first as I had been told it was a young adult/christian novel, so didnt know what to expect.

What a surprise. I absolutely loved both books and couldnt put them down - excellent for an insomniac.

The writing was amazing and I felt like I could visualise everything as if I was there (even in a fantasy world).

I cant wait for the next book and will certainly be looking out for more by Jamie

This book was a wild ride. I had to will myself to put it down to tend to responsibilities. The scenery draws me in, I can almost smell the surroundings. As a 50 something year old woman, I feel like I'm watching kids grow up, mess up and step up. I used a lot of adrenaline and emotion trying to help the good guys! Even if there are some times I wasn't sure who the good guys were. Can't hardly wait for the next episode!

Arbiter didn't miss a lick, picking up right where Sentinel left off. I did think it jumped around some and introduced more characters, but I'm a Huge Fan of Jamie Foley's and can't wait to read the 3rd book in this trilogy. Way to go Jamie!!

I liked this book even better than Sentinel. The main characters who were at each others' throats in the first book have matured much. I very much enjoyed J. Foley's writing style and could hardly put the book down. I am looking forward to the next book!
