“I’m officially nobody,” Jay says.

Viktor’s mouth twists. “No. You’re officially mine.”

He owns the team.
And now… he owns the player no one was supposed to notice.

Jay Calder was supposed to be a hockey player ,a bench guy, a spare part, one bad month away from disappearing. All he wants is to stay in the league.

Viktor Hale didn’t buy a hockey franchise for glory.

For him, money is easy, power is easy, and people are disposable.

Pulled out of the shadows and into a world of secrets, surveillance, and criminal favors, Jay learns that survival comes with a price and Viktor always collects.

And when Jay finally understands the truth, when he realizes he isn’t being saved, but kept, it’s already too late to run.

This is not a normal love story.

It’s a dark MM hockey romance featuring a ruthless billionaire, a desperate player, criminal power plays, moral corruption, and an obsession that burns hotter than the ice, and will keep you turning pages long after you should have stopped.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Owned by Ice feels like stepping into an arena where the lights are too bright, the air is too cold, and someone powerful has already decided the outcome. It’s an MM hockey romance, but the “romance” here is the sharpened, darker kind possession, leverage, and a relationship that’s built on imbalance before it even has a chance to become anything else.

Jay is clinging to his place in pro hockey, the kind of guy who can’t afford a scandal or a slip. Viktor, the billionaire team owner, doesn’t just notice him, he fixates. And the book leans hard into the idea that attention from someone like Viktor is both thrilling and terrifying: he’s the person who can open doors… or lock them. The tension works because Jay’s need (for stability, for a career, for control of his own life) is constantly rubbing against Viktor’s certainty that Jay is something to be taken.

The pacing is fast and built for escalation. Every scene feels like another knot pulled tight: a new favor, a new boundary, a new “are we really doing this?” moment. There’s also an undercurrent of threat beyond the relationship itself, which gives the story a sharper edge than standard billionaire romance. It’s less champagne-and-yachts fantasy and more “this man has reach, and you can feel it.”

Spice-wise, the intimate scenes are written to match the power dynamic high heat, high intensity, and emotionally charged in a way that isn’t trying to be gentle. The chemistry is very much rooted in obsession and control rather than softness, and the erotic tension comes from that push-pull of wanting and resisting. If you like darker spice that feels possessive and a little dangerous, you’ll probably find it addictive. If you need a clear “healthy relationship” vibe or you don’t enjoy power-imbalance heat, this likely won’t be your lane.

I’m landing at four stars because it does what it sets out to do: it’s quick, intense, and designed to pull you straight into the next installment rather than wrap up neatly. It’s not cozy, it’s not sweet, and it’s definitely not a “relationship goals” book but if you’re in the mood for a morally gray hockey obsession with a lot of heat and a sharp edge, it’s an easy binge.

I'm gonna split this review into two parts: the characters and the book as a whole

First up we have Viktor Hale. Now his character is how I would depict dark, brooding and protective at its core. He is also obsessive but not too obsessive to the point where it just becomes borderline creepy (this is mostly the reason why I would review book like this lower, but there was just the right amount of obsessive in this book) I could picture this character clearly in my head, which means I thought there was enough information for me to do so. Next up we have Jay Calder. This guy was bullied by his teammates for no other reason than just being an underdog. His character and the role he played in this book was executed perfectly. So in other words his character was stunning, no notes.

Finally we have the book as a whole. I'm gonna try and make this as short as possible because I absolutely loved it. This was not your basic hockey book. Compared to the very few hockey books I've read this book actually had layers. It had a plot that was absolutely amazing and to top it all of everything that happened made perfect sense. There was not a chapter in this book where I had to stop and think about why something was happening because every chapter made sense and the ending tied everything together in a bow. WITH A CLIFFHANGER TOO.

Long story short I'm so happy I found this book on NetGalley as it was a great way to start my February.

This was an interesting dark romance. You have a guy running a money laundering business disguised as a business mogul. The hockey player in question already seems a little shady before "Mr. Business" sets his sights on him.

The book takes a point of view from both MMCs. The reader is also learning the characters' past while seeing the tense action happen in present day.

The description reads really steamy — and they both have a fire growing between them — but it's a slow burn, set-up installment for the series. .5/5 for spicy, there is promise for more spice to come in book two. I'm intrigued enough to see how book two plays out.

The ending gets pretty action-packed and twisty. It builds like a camp fire, slow and hot until the flames take over.

I was lucky enough to get an ARC (advanced reader copy) through NetGalley to give my honest opinion.

Short story with a lot going on, this seems to be a bigger story chopped into smaller parts. Lots of important stuff is happening throughout the story to do with Viktor's Mafia work but the set up is never full explained and the development of the situation never really makes sense.

Jay the benched hockey players ends up involved in everything and seems to have no idea what's going on but be implicated in the crimes. There is a hint of slow burn romance but nothing really happens till the very end.

The story was just a bit too vague but also way too detailed to keep my interest, far too complicated for a short story.

Okay im blown away by how descriptive and set building every word was flying off the page. The burn is so deliciously slow but deliberate. The darkness, the grittiness of criminal activity at different turns, melding into Hockey and their organizations/ownership that has ties and suspenseful moves is a very fun ride. I didnt expect to not be able to put the book down, each page was a suspenseful turner on what is gonna happen next! Will they wont they! The element of control and freedom in play. Cant wait for Book Two!

This is a very short book, which I read for less than a day.
There were lots of repetitions in the book, almost nothing was revealed, I admit I am curious enough to read the next book, but something about the writing style does feel off for me. It is not only the repetitions, but all these question marks left during the entire book and then none of them being answered. All characters having hidden agendas, but for what?
Anyways, we will see.

This book is a short novella length book, so not a lot of time for things to happen. But I feel like a fair amount did happen even if it happened fast, it didn’t seem particularly rushed.

It ended on a note that could be the end of it, but I looked and there’s more books coming out. I just don’t know if I care enough to continue.

Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC! 😊

Owned by ice is a MM mafia hockey dark romance. It is a slow burn with alot going on.
Viktor is a controlling crime boss.
Jay is a benched hockey player just trying to live his dream and survive.

While I enjoyed the plot, I found the writing to be very repetitive.

Thank you netgalley for this Review copy.

A great story of a nobody hockey player and an obsessive billionaire in denial. The plot was so good and didn’t just revolve around them wanting each other. Definitely recommend if you love a hockey dark romance!

A short novella of a Mafia Hockey Romance. About a new owner buying the team and dealing with internal theft, espionage, threats, and falling for one of his players. Not a lot of plot but a good quick read.

Great book about Viktor, a controlling billionaire/crime boss and a bench warmer hockey player. Jay is trying to survive and living his dream to play professional hockey gets tangled in the middle of corruption.
Not your average hockey romance book

I have no idea what that book was about. It ended just as it was beginning.
