Bulbous and Mort… I don’t even have the words. I love them so much. They are unsettling little nightmares with actual heart, and I found myself weirdly attached in a way I didn’t expect. Protective. Emotional. Soft for monsters. I would 100% buy a Bulbous and Mort stuffed animal and sleep with it proudly on my bed 🤪judge me all you want.
What I adore most about this book is how it leans fully into its identity. It embraces the strange, the gross, the vulnerable, and the painfully human parts of grief and connection…even through creatures that shouldn’t be lovable… but absolutely are.
This book feels like a love letter to anyone who finds comfort in the macabre. Dark, bizarre, and unexpectedly heartfelt. If you’re into horror that makes you cringe and clutch your chest, this one stays with you long after the last page.
Now someone please make the merch because I need those plushies.

Amazing work as always, Sarah really is one of the fastest rising extreme horror artist in my opinion.
If you liked mortifier this is a no brainer get it.
You see a lot more diversity in mort’s personality and it is definitely necessary to understand this character fully. Great work

After the events in Mortifier, Mort and Bulbie are back and continuing their journey right where we left them. Mort is on a mission to find his dad and he won't stop until he does. The best friends board a bus going to Florida when they meet someone that catches both their eyes.
Veronica is freaked out by Mort but as the bus ride continues, she starts to see him in a different light. Mort seems to talk to himself, he's nervous, and doesn't know much of the world. This makes Veronica soft and she lets her guard down. But as the trip continues, she starts to feel a bit uneasy. Mort is extremely mysterious, scary looking, and unpredictable. Will she be able to help Mort? Or will Mort show Veronica who he really is.
This is the sequel we all needed, but what I wasn't expecting was to have a broken heart at the end. I highly suggest you read Mortifier to get to know Mort and Bulbie more. Our favourite duo still chat and create chaos, but Mort seems to feel very defeated at times. Getting into Morts thoughts and feelings was heartbreaking. He's misunderstood, been through a lot, and you can't help but feel for him. I love him so much. The digs to Florida were hilarious and I loved the humour sprinkled in. Be prepared for a 3rd installment! This series is a must read! Excellent job, Sarah!

We return where the last Mortifier book left off, with Morty on a personal quest to find his dad as well as acceptance from the general public who have so far roundly rejected him either on shallow grounds (his abnormal hulking figure and overall off-putting appearance as a lumbering clown) or his lack of proper social development and education causing him to come across as either mentally disabled or creepy and perverse. Morty's skunk companion Bulbous comes along for his ride and Morty manages to find a possible love interest in a fellow misfit of sorts he meets along the way, Veronica.
As a long-time fan of more mainstream horror like Stephen King, I'm not sure what to think of the gore in both Mortifier books, the descriptions are certainly quite visceral and Sarah DeRosa is a truly talented writer, perhaps it's just my personal taste showing through. I didn't find everything off-putting of course (I'm basically numb to nearly all fictional violence at this point, thanks to modern media) but I noticed it caused some tonal jarring when Morty goes from zero to 100 at relatively minor provocations. I suppose that's just how much he's been spiraling, and fits the character.
The ending to this part emotionally affected me, particularly the last line. I've always been a fan of tragic figures, even ones I can't relate to personally like Morty (but damn is my love of skunks making me absolutely adore Bulbous), and I cannot wait for the next story in this gripping tale.

While on this bus trip, they meet Veronica.
At first she feels uneasy around Mort, but then she softens and begins to notice his quirks,his nervousness, the way he talks to himself. As the journey goes on, those details make her uneasy all over again.
I really enjoyed this book as much as I did the first one. The ending, of course, was very heartbreaking, but overall truly enjoyed it.
It's a short read, and you cannot help but feel sympathy for Mort.

Sarah, WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME?! lol. Feelings aside... Mortifier 2 was a great sequel to its predecessor. I'm looking forward to book 3.
In Mortifier 2 we follow Mort and his companion Bulby as he travels to find his father. He meets a friend along the way that makes him finally feel accepted but will that last? We, the reader, know how his previous relationships have been. The companions run into many obstacles as the journey continues on.
This read was brutal, beautiful and tugged at my heart strings. Job well done, Sarah!
