She’s resigned herself to a quiet life. He buried his heart with his wife. Neither expects redemption to come calling.
Rosalind Durmond still harbors a heart made for storybook romance—she just knows such tales aren’t written for her. She thought she’d traded those dreams for duty when she agreed to care for her aging aunt. But when that aunt sets off for the Nebraska plains to right an old wrong, Rosalind finds herself knee-deep in family strife—and face-to-face with a widowed farmer whose quiet strength stirs hopes she thought long out of reach.
Zane Hoffman’s learned the hard way that happy endings exist only in fairy tales. Since his wife’s death, he’s sworn off risking his heart again. Yet when a red-haired woman with a knack for finding trouble crosses his path, his conscience won’t let him walk away.
As secrets from the past turn dangerous, Rosalind and Zane must fight for survival—and for the fragile love awakening between them.

This heartfelt story will take you on an emotionally charged journey of love, trust, patience, second chances and “an arrival of hope”.
Author Alena Mentink’s third installment in her Home to Osceola series explores how we move on from loss and how we sidestep decisions that others make for us. I love how both main characters learn to wait on God for directions when moving on.
If you’ve been enjoying this series already, you’ll know about the ‘rough around the edges’ character of Mrs Durmond - Rosalind is her niece - and Zane is Jase’s older brother. We first met him in book one.
It takes courage to stand up for what you want and need, especially when you consider the opinions of others that aren’t in alignment with God or your faith-directed desires. It also takes courage to be patient, especially when bad things happen to good people. I appreciated that both Zane Hoffman and Rosalind Durmond put God at the center of their life, ensuring that they rested in what God could do and allowed Him the space and time to work all things for good.
I was surprised at the character growth of two other characters and realized that I pigeon-holed them and I shoudn’t have!
I can’t wait for the next installment. I've fallen in love with Oscelola and the people who live there! This is one of my favourite series at the moment; I LOVE the author's writing style and her masterfully crafted characters.
I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.
This was such a charming Western to copyedit! The characters were easy to root for, and the twisty plot was excellent. I’ll be reading more books in this series soon!
Alena Mentink delivers another adventurous, uplifting tale filled with endearing characters and enduring faith. Perfect for fans of wholesome Christian romance!
I had the honor to work as Alena’s proofreader on this book, and it has my favorite heroine of the series so far: a bookish romantic who thrives on tales of bygone days and longs for adventure—until she gets it. Although I love social events much more than Rosalind Durmond does, I could relate to her love for stories and dreams of her own happily-ever-after. Add in a strong-and-silent widower with two young children, a crotchety old aunt, a passel of dangerous secrets, and a strong emphasis on biblical faith, and you’ve got a fun, sweet, adventurous story.
Maybe it’s because Alena lives in the town where her stories are set, but I love her ability to bring small-town community to life. In the previous book, A Time of Proving, I noticed this in the local square dance the characters attend. In An Arrival of Hope, it’s the basket social that could have come from one of the Little House books—a blend of warmth and friendliness with a just a hint of realistic awkwardness at being an outsider. I felt so much sympathy with Rosalind as she did her best to fit in with a completely foreign environment. It was way too easy to imagine walking a mile in her lace-up boots!
This is definitely a romance, and a very sweet one at that, but it’s also much more. There’s plenty of mystery and suspense, and Alena’s characters earnestly try to live out their faith as they wrestle with heartbreak and complication in any number of ways. Plus we’re reminded that even the most annoying people aren’t beyond redemption. I always appreciate Alena’s focus on true commitment over mere physical attraction, and this one doesn’t disappoint.
An Arrival of Hope is the third book in the Home to Osceola series, but it can also be enjoyed as a standalone.
It's a big day for An Arrival of Hope--release day! 🎉
If you love:
* Guarded heroes
* Spunky heroines with a tendency toward trouble
* A warm, tightly-knit community
* Adorable little kids
* And villains you love to hate . . .
Then give the story a try. It might be just right for you. 😊
About the story:
When Rosalind follows her aunt to the Nebraska plains, she’s pulled into old family conflicts—and into the path of a widowed farmer who awakens long-buried hopes. As hidden secrets erupt into danger, she and Zane must confront the past, protect each other, and risk their hearts for a second chance at love.
After the unexpected death of his wife two years ago, Zane Hoffman still feels the pain of such a great loss. With two littles and the family farm to look after, the thought of opening his heart to love again seems preposterous.
When big city girl Rosalind Durmond shows up with her aunt Myra on a mission, Zane vows to stay far away. But something about her draws him in, and when her aunt needs help, Zane can’t bring himself to say no.
There’s a bit of a mystery surrounding the reason Rosalind and Myra leave Lincoln for Osceola that added a lot of depth to the sweet and developing romance! This novel is a lovely example of when we surrender our own plans and wait for the Lord’s timing, we discover a beautiful sense of peace that could never be found on our own. I loved getting to “revisit” the town and characters I’ve already grown fond of from Alena’s other books!
A delightful and riveting continuation of the Home to Osceola series! An Arrival of Hope delivered mystery, a light and sweet romance, and above all else, the reminder that the story isn't over until you're gone, and life is worth the living. The mystery and intrigue was planted early on and while it took a backseat for a while, it kept the stakes high and the plot surging forward. And the romance... I won't lie--I was annoyed when the misunderstanding got the better of them, but fortunately it didn't last long. For the most part their journey to "I love you" was relatively bump-free!
This novel had such a colorful cast. Zane's family was so kind and loving, especially Florence, who took Rosalind under her wing. His son, Byron, was the definition of precocious, and I'd have gladly taken even more of his adorable chatter. Aunt Myra was such a walking disaster but certainly kept me giggling, and Mrs. Durmond... how can someone be so insufferable? I wouldn't have had Rosalind's patience. Even Maude and Connor turned out not to be so bad after all!
Zane himself was such a darling, but I loved seeing his silly side, too, and the way he cared for his kiddos. And ladies, if your man won't eat two servings of raw potatoes drizzled with burnt butter for unknowing you, keep looking. Rosalind was so sweet and determined, and I loved her spunk and persistence even with the odds against her.
Actually, I think the best relationship in the entire book was between Zane and Aunt Myra. From hair-pulling to her considering him angelic... I laughed so much. And eek! The ending was WILD and had me on pins and needles, and I'm so glad everything worked out!
Content note: arson, gun wounds, and mentions of several murders.
Overall, I am VERY thankful I got to read this book! It was sweet, thrilling, and hilarious all at once, and I highly recommend this series to fans of westerns!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are my honest opinion.
This is a heart-warming story that shows that being heartbroken doesn't have to be life-ending. It will be life-changing, but those changes can and should make us into better people for our family, community and one another. Sometimes that change comes by relocating to a different area like our main character did. Things definitely do not go as she plans or hopes. This book has many twists and turns with wholesome, likable characters, although some of them may make you shake your head. Throughout the ups and downs of the characters there is laughter, tears and joy, must like each of us go through throughout our lives. This is a great, enjoyable read.
I liked this one even more than the last ones and can’t believe I have to wait till next year to read A Measure of Truth 😩😒 😂 This one’s my favorite so far 😊👌 I think Alena has grown so much in her story building, plots, and writing. Also finding the best ways to incorporate her Christian faith into her stories which was very encouraging to me reading it. Can’t wait for the next one!😁
This is an excellent book. The romance is very clean and, there is a thread of mystery running through out the book that adds even more interest. If your looking for a new read look no further.
I was so glad to return the the town of Osceola and get Zane's story. I love Alena's writing style it is so easy to follow and just picture and feel everything that is happening around you. This story made me laugh out loud and get a bit emotional as well.
Rosalind is the niece of the towns crankiest citizen Mrs. Drummond (If you have read the previous stories then you will know all about her) she comes to town with her Aunt to try and solve a mystery surrounding the death of her uncle. Rosalind has some interesting ideas on who she wants on a mate one being a man on a white horse so it was hilarious to encounter just that when she steps off the train but alas it is not all as it seems.
Zane has been mourning his wife for a while and he doesn't believe that he will ever find anyone to replace her so he has closed his heart to the potential of being in love until he meets Rosalind and his heart begins to soften.
They were such a great balance for each other and I absolutely enjoyed seeing their growth throughout the story. It was beautiful to see how they put their faith in God and how God provided the answers they were seeking. There is a bit of mystery in the story and that is the only part I found a bit disjointed in the story as I felt like that part was left off to the end so it wrapped up rather quickly.
Overall I thought it was a good story and I can't wait to see what happens next with these characters.
I received a copy of this book for review. All views are my own.
This is my first time reading a book by this author and I will admit I was very impressed. I believe I have found another Christian historical Fiction writer to read more of. This book is filled with adventure, humor, romance and mystery. I will have to go back and check out the other books in this serie because I am sure they are just as wonderful.
We are introduced to Rosalind who is perfectly content with helping out in her father's theatre. However, at the age of 26 her marriage prospects are pretty low and the relationship she wants seems like a perfect plot for fairy tales. She sets off to Nebraska to help care for her aunt.
Once arriving she is introduced to various people in the community. One of those peoople is a widowed farmer named Zane whose children take an instant liking to Rosalind. Although Zane has sworn off love since the death of his wife he can't help but feel something for this newcomer.
This was a book by a new author for me, and I just soaked it up. I love historical fiction, especially historical romance. And this one hit the nail. It had romance, mystery, quirky characters, and a focus on God. It was a wonderful, wholesome, and fun story.
Through it you follow Rosalind, a writer for a newspaper column and daughter of a prominent family, and Zane, a single father of two after his wife passed from a tragic accident two years prior. Through the growth of their relationship, chances to see them work to solve a mystery, and watching many characters grow, it was a great story.
Yes, it was the third book in the series, but it also read well as a standalone. Honestly, if I hadn’t seen that it was part of a series, I may not have realized with how solid the story was. It was fun, easy to jump into and follow, and really had no huge learning curves from the previous books.
I also took so many characters to heart. In a way I felt like I visited the town and met them, as the story fully engaged me and the characters were so sweet. I even grew to like some that could be seen as antagonists. I appreciated that they had opportunities to grow as characters, and am curious to see where their own stories go!
This was a beautiful historical romance set in the Nebraska plains. The third in the series, but I know I’ll be jumping to read the others as well. And who knows, there may be another soon…?
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, received from JustReadTours and Alena Mentink. However, all thoughts and views reflected are strictly my own opinions.
Filled with faith, family, personal growth, and humor, this novel is enjoyable in every way . . .
The author has written a well-constructed novel that gives readers an excellent view of life in the pioneer era on the eastern central prairie of Nebraska in 1881. The plot features elements of romance, mystery, and suspense.
The main character, twenty-six-year old Rosalind Durmond, lives in Lincoln, Nebraska, with her father, step-mother, and aunt. She struggles with being a single woman who is above average in height. Mostly importantly, she is bothered by the fact that most of the women her age are married and starting their families, and she feels as if she doesn't fit in anywhere.
Rosalind's emotionally-unstable Aunt Myra decides she must return to Osceola to find the person whom she is certain killed her husband and children in a house fire a few years earlier. Rosalind agrees to chaperone Myra on the journey.
Farmer Zane Hoffman continues to grieve the loss of his dear wife, Sarah, two years after her sudden death in a wagon accident. He is committed to raising their young children, Byron and Audrey, in a home filled with love and faith. However, he is desperately struggling to keep his heart locked away so he won't fall in love again . . .
As Rosalind begins spending time with the large extended Hoffman Family as well as little Byron and Audrey, she starts accepting the fact that maybe someday she will attain her goal of becoming a wife and mother. Zane's mother, Florence, is an exceptional matriarch and is generous with her time and efforts in teaching Rosalind how to be a homemaker. Rosalind learns how to cook, bake, garden, etc., since she has never been taught those skills in her father's home.
The final chapters of the book were intense and involved some suspense and action. The group worked together to solve the house fire mystery, much to the satisfaction of Myra.
There is so much to enjoy about this plot, but I especially appreciated this author's ability to share God's Word and His intentions for marriage and child-rearing with readers.
This book is completely clean in language and content. The faith thread is deftly woven throughout the entire book.
I received a copy of this book from the author through JustRead Publicity Tours. All of my opinions shared here are solely my own.
As the title suggests, this story is one that is full of hope. That when we are up against life's curveballs, there is hope. Even if that hope feels like it is dying inside. This is a story of two individuals who have almost given up. They have been knocked down by life, for a time, and this is their story of getting back up.
This is a story of romance and some danger. We are reintroduced to previous characters, and it was quite an adventure. However, I think what really stood out to me was the author's portrayal of hope. Zane had lost his wife almost two years ago and now it is just himself and his two little kids. His loss was palpable. He had in a sense given up hope of another love. I understood his fears, and the author pulled us into his grief.
Rosalind is becoming a spinster. her hopes of marrying and having children are dwindling. When she decides to follow her aunt, unbeknownst to her she is stepping into the adventure of her life. And she is also giving Zane the balm to heal. He will always love his first wife, but for his and his children's sakes, he needs to continue to live.
I felt the author told this story of second chances with a deep sensitivity of love lost and gained. Really pulling out the feels in this one.
I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
An Arrival of Hope is book 3 of the Home to Osceola series, and the first one I have read. It seems to work fairly well as a stand alone, but I hope to read the first two books of the series now, too. This is also the first book I have read by Alena Mentink; it certainly won't be my last!
Rosalind is such a sweet character, full of patience for her eccentric Aunt Myra, and full of dreams for the man she hopes to marry someday. But she also has a deep faith, and a determination to wait patiently on God for that man to come into her life.
Zane is also a enchanting character, with his love for his children, and a guarded heart over the loss of his wife. In spite of his grief, though, his faith is strong. And Zane's children are precious.
Oh, Aunt Myra! What a character! I loved her, in spite of herself. Some of her antics had me giggling.
If you enjoy sweet Western fiction, with a touch of romance and a dose of faith, add this to the top of your TBR list.
I received a complimentary copy. These opinions are my own.
An Arrival of Hope was the perfect addition to the Home To Osceola series by Alena Mentink. This book made me laugh, it made me cry, it kept me on the edge of my seat, and it made me take a look at my own heart. All the things I love in a book.
At the beginning, I didn’t know what to think of Rosalind. She is from a well-off family, and it seems as if her dad is trying to set her up with his partner/assistant. When her father asks why she would turn him down, Rosalind responds, “because he doesn’t have a white horse.” Then Rosalind accompanies her aunt on a trip back to Osceola, and one of the first men she meets after getting off the train is a man riding a white horse-or so it would seem. We find out later that his horse was only whitewashed by his son. But it made for the funniest meet-cute.
The next scene that made me laugh was when Rosalind is at her aunt and uncle's house, and she gets attacked by the rooster. When Zane happens upon her talking to the roaster from the ladder. There were so many great scenes, but these were on point.
I loved the slow burn, matchmaking/meddling mother, and healing hearts mixed with humor, farm life, and faith.
This second chance at romance was the perfect blend of sweet and respectful.
Alena Mentink did an excellent job of weaving faith elements throughout the entire book.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received from the author. A positive review was not required. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Rosalind Durmond dreams of adventure and romance, of a handsome man on a white horse whisking her away. She does not want to marry Connor, but her parents seem to think he's a good catch and probably the best she can hope for at her age. At least traveling with her eccentric Aunt Myra to see an uncle she barely knows will keep her from having to make a decision on the matter for a while.
Zane Hoffman is a widower, raising his two small children. He isn't interested in looking for another happy ending. He's convinced it's not worth the risk. But Rosalind keeps turning up, and trouble is usually right behind her.
I love Alena Mentink's books! This is the third in the Home to Osceola series, and just as in A Time of Proving (which I loved, and which is the only other of her books I've read so far), Mentink gives us wonderfully flawed and delightfully relatable characters.
I could relate to Rosalind. I loved that she hid in the library when she was trying to avoid a social function. She just ducked out and curled up with a book! And when, in that same library, she prayed for God to either give her an adventure or take away her desire for one and left it in His hands, boy, did He drop an adventure on her. She wondered if maybe she shouldn't have prayed for that after all. I understand that, Rosalind!
Zane was so hurt by his wife's death that he'd just shut himself off to the idea of any other chance at love. I wanted to hug him. Jase (who we met in A Time of Proving) is his brother. It was nice to see him and his family in this story, and I liked how Jase kept encouraging Zane not to give up on the idea of love.
Mentink weaves family throughout her stories, and that holds true here. Even when loved ones are a little strange, we still love them. Rosalind's Aunt Myra wants to see her brother because she's convinced he holds the key to a mystery that she has long been unable to solve, and once she latches on to that idea, she isn't letting go. The family thinks maybe she's a little dotty, and Rosalind wonders how this trip will go. But she loves her aunt, and so she goes and does her best to look after Myra, who does tend to get herself into the occasional situation.
The romance is sweet. The faith is genuine. The suspense adds just enough tension to keep me reading past bedtime. I hope Alena Mentink keeps writing, because this is a perfect story when you want a warm literary hug on a challenging day.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of the book from JustRead Publicity Tours. I was not required to leave a review. All opinions here are mine, and I don't say nice things about books I don't actually like.
I enjoyed everything about An Arrival of Hope by Alena Mentink. The author does an amazing job of bringing Nebraska in the 1880s to life in a way that is both educational and fascinating. I enjoyed learning about everyday life during that time, including local church events, town customs, general attitudes, and fashion. While most of the story takes place in small-town Osceola, there are a few scenes from Rosalind's hometown of Lincoln, as well as an entertaining train ride.
I had the good fortune to have already read A Time of Proving, which features Jase and Miriam's story. However, I think this book would work fine as a standalone if you haven't read the previous ones. I was particularly excited for this installment as I was hoping Zane's story would be the next focus as I was enjoying the romantic journey of Miriam and Jase. Characters from the earlier books are mentioned, and I enjoyed seeing what they were up to, but a new reader should have no trouble figuring out all the key relationships.
The slow-burn romance between Rosalind and Zane was beautifully written. It started with an anti-meet-cute immediately upon Rosalind's arrival in town with her unpredictable aunt. From there, the relationship slowly progressed. The author took her time with plenty of interactions (some of them hilarious) between the two, as well as lots of dialog as they got to know each other. By the time the characters began to realize the attraction, I fully believed it was real based on the quantity and quality of time they spent together before reaching that point.
In addition to the romance, there is a secondary storyline involving Rosalind's Aunt Myra, who is beginning to have some cognitive/behavioral issues. Myra used to live in Osceola until a fire destroyed her home and family. Despite an official ruling of "accidental chimney fire", Myra remains convinced that the fire was arson/murder. A more recent courthouse fire in town may (or may not) be connected. Zane agrees to look over Myra's "evidence", and soon a bit of a mystery plot develops.
As an added bonus, Zane's children (he's a widower) were adorable. I especially enjoyed Byron's antics and childlike openness. Their roles in the story added a level of humor, sweetness, and realism to the budding romance.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Osceola, and can't wait to go back again soon!
Okay, this was a total five star read for me, and truth be told I didn't see it coming. Normally slow burn romances can get too slow for me, but this one I loved. I found myself totally immersed in the story, the community, and the side characters. The friendship between Zane and Rosalind was one I could not ignore. When that friendship started looking like it was blossoming into something more, I was so ready for it. Because if anyone deserves a happily ever after, it is Zane.
When Rosalind decides to accompany her aunt to Osceola, she is not ready to be such a fish out of water. She quickly realizes she does not quite fit in, making her stay harder than expected. But as she gets to know the community, and specifically the Hoffman family, she starts to find her way. As she begins to strike up a friendship with Zane, she never expected to want more than just a temporary stay in Osceola.
Zane is grieving and has no interest in finding another wife. But it does not stop him from stepping up to help newcomer Rosalind acclimate to Osceola. At first he wants to keep his distance, but she is growing on him, his family, and most of all his kids. Her kind disposition has him constantly wanting to come to her aid. When Rosalind and her aunt need help with a mystery surrounding the family, he is quick to step up, not knowing the risks to follow for them and possibly his heart.
This was wonderful. I found myself totally drawn to both these characters and their hearts. The godly character shown throughout made the romance budding between them come so naturally and I loved it. I realized I would love to go back and read book one in this series now. I need to experience that story. And I cannot wait for Cole to get his turn.
I received a complimentary copy. This review reflects my honest opinion.
I really enjoyed this story about a woman who longs for adventure and romance but thinks there's not much chance of either. I liked going with her on the adventure of a new place, even though she had her hands full watching over her aunt, who seemed to not only be stubborn but have some kind of dementia. There was also a suspenseful element as her aunt seemed to think the fire that killed her family was intentionally set and was trying to find out more. That led to some action in the story later on as things came to a head. There was a little bit of romance and an interesting twist as a selfish, conniving woman who had tried to catch a husband previously and repeatedly in this series finally met her match I liked seeing her transformation as it was funny but also a faith journey. I actually haven't read the first two books in the series yet but plan to. It was also amusing seeing some of the situations Rosalind got into and what she tried to do to get out. Zane had a more sober outlook as he was still grieving and blaming himself for his wife's death plus needing to be mother and father to his young children. I liked that she was patient and tried to be a friend without expecting more. There were also some good spiritual conversations about trust in hard things and praying for guidance. If you like historical fiction you'll like this one! I highly recommend.
I received a free copy of this book from the author. I was not compensated for my review. All opinions are my own.
An Arrival of Hope is a delightfully heartfelt, sweet, and uplifting read!
Alena Mentink skillfully explores themes of loss, longing, hope, and love in this third installment of Home to Osceola. This book follows Rosalind, a hopeless romantic and lover of the idea of adventure, and Zane, widower and father of two young children. One from the city and the other a farmer—seemingly, the two are an odd match, but the Lord has plans for them that were lovely to watch unfold!
An Arrival to Hope was a sweet romance that included learning to trust and wait patiently on the Lord, combined with plenty of witty humor and a mystery! And yes, the mystery had me stumped! Rosalind's stumblings as she tried to fit in a small town as an outsider with a difficult aunt were hilarious, but also so endearing as I could easily see myself in the same the same situations! And I so appreciated Zane's dear mother's kindness to her. I am so grateful for the people such as her in my life!
This book was also a wonderful reminder that even the most frustrating people in our lives aren't beyond redemption. I was very pleasantly surprised! An Arrival of Hope reminded me in the best ways of Little House on the Prairie and Anne of Green Gables, while being completely original. This may have been my favorite in the series thus far, but then again, I believe I think that about each one! I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series! This story had so much joy and laughter, but also grief and true life lessons that I believe can be applicable to all of us.
I love a good historical fiction novel. They carry you away to a time gone by and fully activate the imagination. This was a fun one! Rosalind gives up her dream of love and a storybook romance. Instead, she’s going to care for her aging aunt. But when her aunt goes to Nebraska, so does Rosalind.
Zane is a widowed farmer. He’s sworn off love and romance. He’s already lost one wife; why try for two?
But then this feisty redheaded woman shows up, and maybe he’s tempted to give love a try again.
Enter some secrets and some danger to spice the story up. It’s a great romance with a smidge of suspense as well. You’re not going to be able to put this one down!
This was just the perfect novel to read with a cup of coffee as it thundered and snowed out my window. It wasn’t scary enough to have me checking all the window locks, but it had enough suspense to keep it moving. The characters are great, and the faith is very evident.
An Arrival of Hope is the third book in the series. You really should read them in order.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received from JustRead Publicity Tours. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. Rosalind's time in society has convinced her that true heroes no longer exist. But when she takes her old, and sometimes confused, aunt to Osceola to visit her aunt's brother, she meets a man who seems to fit the hero mould quite well. Unfortunately, he's still mourning his dead wife and unwilling to even consider the idea of a new relationship. Circumstances throw them together and he seems to be reconsidering his stance, but when her family turns up unexpectedly and her aunt's past comes calling, it may take a miracle to get them together - or even keep them alive...
A hope-full romance with a thread of mystery that unfolds mostly in the background. Rosalind's aunt is convinced that her family was murdered - is it true, and if so, who by? And that forms a bit of a background for Rosalind and Zane's romance. The addition of a secondary romance tying up what might be considered a bit of a loose thread for the series (Maude) also adds a lot to the story, because she has a lot to learn about romance rather than mere desperate husband-hunting. And the kids (and Zane's whole family) are great, both in the way they welcome Rosalind into the type of family she's never experienced before and in how they both support and tease Zane. All in all, a good read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
An Arrival of Hope is a clean romance with the perfect slow burn. The author really took the time to put the reader right there with Zane and Rosalind and delve deep into their minds and hearts. This novel truly has it all: intrigue, love, mystery, humor...there really is something here for everyone.
This novel ended up having a lot more chaotic moments than I had anticipated, and I was loving it! The chaos definitely keeps the narrative interesting, and most of the mischief had to do with the eccentric Aunt Myra. At first, I wasn’t sure what to make of her, but regardless, her unpredictability added a unique spin to this seemingly normal narrative. All of the characters are easy to tether to and care about. They feel authentic and are ones that you truly want to root for and see get their happily ever afters.
There is nothing more powerful than the moment when you realize that someone sees you for who you truly are and this is shown in more than one blossoming relationship, which was a pleasant surprise. I really enjoyed this engaging and charming novel.
*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.
I truly enjoy Christian Historical Romance books. An Arrival of Hope by Alena Mentink is Book 3 in the Home to Osceloa Series. I red Book 2 in this series and I was excited to read this book.
WOW, this storyline grabbed my attention in the very first pages. The setting is Osceloa, Nebraska in the 1880's. The 2 main characters are Rosalind Durmond and Zane Hoffman. Rosalind has always dreamed of getting married and enjoying life. She had given up those dreams when she became caregiver for her Aunt. Life becomes a bit complicated when her Aunt heads to Nebraska to take care of some family business. Zane Hoffman is a widow who has no interest in marrying again. Zane meets Rosalind when she arrives with her Aunt in Nebraska. The story changes and gets very interesting upon the pair meeting. They run into Mystery and Mischief as they begin to know one another. They both realize that through all the happenings, that God is still there for they, helping them navigate the growing relationship. I REALLY enjoyed the characters in the book and how they opened up to one another. The book is one of Second Chances, Trusting in God, Faith, and Family! I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Historical Romance. AMAZING BOOK!
Book 3 in the Home to Osceola series could be read as a stand alone, however we revisit characters from books 1 and 2. To me it makes sense to read them in order so you get the full flavor of the town and its inhabitants.
Well developed characters, Zane is still struggling with loss and heartbreak, causing him to vow to protect his heart. Rosalind still wants her happily ever after but isn’t expecting it. I really felt bad for both of them; so full of life’s disappointments.
Including a mystery of sorts, this story has a lot of depth and feelings. It shows that when we let God direct our lives, while everything is not perfect, there is peace. And the hope of love.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review. All thoughts are my own.
Such a good book! I loved the impeccable blend of gentle storytelling that felt like a soft summer breeze, unsolved mystery, with an undertone of danger lingering just beneath the surface, and a generous sprinkling of humour, all settled snuggly within a Biblical outlook. Author Alena Mentink has impressed me before with her story-weaving abilities and An Arrival of Hope only solidifies my initial impression that this is definitely a go-to author for me. I’ve gotten so much enjoyment out of this series! Zane and Rosalind were both characters to be admired and I loved them! And all of the townsfolk, family members and sinister villains added so much depth and angst to the story! Everything unraveled in perfectly-timed sequence to give optimum satisfaction for this gem of a book! So glad to have gotten this from the publisher and been able to share my thoughts!
An Arrival of Hope is a warm and engaging historical romance that draws you in through its genuinely likeable characters and keeps you turning pages with an undercurrent of tension and mystery. Rosalind’s restless longing and Zane’s steady, wounded strength make them feel real, and watching their growth—individually and together—is a delight. The spiritual thread is woven naturally into the fabric of their daily life in small-town Nebraska. Author Alena Mentink has done an excellent job at creating a lovely read that blends romance, faith, and suspense. Highly recommend!
