This felt like a full circle book 💕
I remember Cruz from way back at the beginning of Bourbon Canyon.
And I’m so glad he ( and hopefully his brother) got a happy ending.
I just wanted to give him a hug.
His backstory. Ugh.
Elodie: the towns pretty little baker
I enjoyed the backstory mystery that revolves around her.
We spent a lot of time at the bakery.
And so happy to see Cruz bring her out of her shell/funk
I mean she made him really work for it and play the long game tho.

This was such a great addition to this series! I absolutely adore Elodie & Cruz!! Both harboring their own past struggles and pain. Watching these two fall in love despite it all made my heart so happy. I wanted to hug them both!!
Cruz is such a top tier MMC. Always listening, paying attention, and knowing what Elodie needed. Despite his own inner issues, he is always showing up!! Elodie was such a lovable FMC, she was strong, trying to hide her vulnerability, and staying guarded. Quietly trying to overcome her problems & handle them all own her own. Watching Cruz step in for her & show her what she deserved was amazing.
This book was full of angst, tension, and some delicious spice! I laughed with these characters and felt so many of their emotions! This was definitely a swoony & fun ride! Such an amazing story of not letting your past define you & finding what you deserve in the end. I can’t wait to see what else this series has in store!!

What an amazing story this was. The chemistry, the tension, the friendship, and love between Elodie and Cruz was heartwarming.
From the start on, you could tell Cruz had it bad for the lovely but closed-off baker Elodie. He was already head over heels for her and wanted to do anything to get to know her. But her past made her angsty, and at first, she kept pushing him away. But Cruz helped her where he could and was patient with her, which was really sweet.
Cruz was such a sweetheart and always gave her time to be aware of what she wanted. He gave her time to open up whenever she was ready, and this warmth my heart so much. Elodie’s life hadn’t been easy, and she made mistakes in the past. She was scared of how the town was gonna see her if her secret would come out. But slowly on, she decided to open up and be brave.
I really enjoyed the story. The love and attraction between the characters were strongly written, and it only made me want to read more about them. It was a sweet, spicy, and a bit angsty story rolled into one, and I couldn’t get enough.

Another fantastic addition to the Foster House series. I adored Cruz and Elodie so dang much. I wanted to give them both hugs so much and was so happy they found each other. Both of their back stories were heartbreaking, but watching them fall in love despite their hangups made me swoon.
Cruz is an absolute consent king and I loved watching him traverse the black cat that was Elodie. He listened to her every request, even when she wasn't sure that was actually what she wanted. It was angsty and entertaining at times.

How long does it take her to FULLY trust him? Well at the 82% mark apparently. Good gravy this is so not how I wanted this book to go. I was so happy with the first book that I was really excited for Elodie’s story. Now I’m just confused, cuz what even was this?? The writing felt so different and it was really annoying finding scenes not get a full development. Truthfully both characters were not very enjoyable but Elodie really wasn’t how I pictured and I felt really let down with her.

First book by this author for me and of course I jumped in right in the middle of a series (as usual). And honestly… who is this Cruz?! Because I absolutely loved him. Huge thanks to the Author and to The Author Agency for the eARC, which introduced me not only to a new author but also to a whole new world of distilleries, bakeries, and small-town charm.
One of the strongest parts of this book is definitely the banter between the main characters. Elodie is confident, sharp, and full of attitude, which makes her really fun to follow, while Cruz leans perfectly into that charming-but-slightly-broody love interest energy. Their back-and-forth is playful, flirty, and engaging right from the start. Add a cosy small-town setting into the mix and you get the perfect backdrop for a romance built on tension, proximity, and a lot of teasing.
The story follows Elodie, a baker who’s quietly running from parts of her past and trying to hide her struggles so her family won’t worry about her. As someone with a serious case of “eldest daughter syndrome,” that part hit a little too close to home. Cruz, on the other hand, had a rough childhood of his own but was taken in by Mae and grew into an absolute sweetheart. Elodie sees him as a flirt (I mean… it’s literally in the title), but the truth is he doesn’t really date much at all. In fact, he’s been quietly pining for her for a couple of years.
When Cruz realizes that his usual flirting strategy clearly isn’t working, he switches tactics and becomes more supportive and patient, determined to prove that she can trust him. And honestly? Cruz is basically walking green flags. I loved him so much. Their romance is full of fun, fluffy moments as he slowly earns her trust, mixed with a few spicy “okay, fine, I give up” moments when Elodie finally stops resisting.
Even though I hadn’t read the previous books in the series, I was still able to follow the story without any problems. Walker Rose writes pretty well, and just the way i like it!
Overall, it’s a cute, flirty romance that’s really enjoyable in the moment. It might not leave the deepest mark, but it delivers great chemistry, lots of banter, and a hero absolutely covered in green flags. I’m definitely curious to see what comes next in the Foster House series.

I want to talk about narration first because I am throwing so much confetti over it it’s on my eyelids! Well done 👏👏Tim Paige & Kelsey Navarro Foster👏👏. Their voices melded together like a symphonic harmony. It’s like they’re two halves of one “thing”. Make sense? Honestly, I’ve listened to a lot of different castings, and this one is next level epic. They worked ridiculously well together and took the story of Cruz & Elodie to vivid levels! I experienced this story. I didn’t just enjoy it, I lived it. That’s a concept that I’ve always found difficult to express in a way that definitively explains how I feel in the hours I find myself lost in the story, but these two exceptional narrators did that and I could just kiss them on the mouth for it! LOL
This time around I had the opportunity to read-along while I listened which if you couldn’t tell by now, it turned more into a full-on listening experience. I was lost to the story from practically the beginning so it is safe to say that in the which way will give you the mostest (not a word, I know) joy game I love to play, audio #wins 10/10. Obviously, these 2 cents only apply to readers in their audiobook era so, you know, don’t spend them all at once! :)
About this story … I was hooked from the start. That scene at the beginning when Cruz catches Elodie dancing like no one is watching set the tone for me for the entire story and it was fantastic! Honestly, Chapter 1 in its entirety set the vibe and I knew the story would be tension fueled with a push/pull dynamic and I was here for it. The circumstances that Elodie “carries” call for this type of vibe in order for the story to be realistic and the relationship unfold organically and with a relatable tone. I couldn’t be more excited for the world to get ahold of this story right now! I loved how the story had chemistry even when or MCs maybe/kinda didn’t, and when they both had it, the story exploded!
I’m gonna be happy in this “world” over and over again, I feel it. I haven’t had the chance to jump back into Walker Rose’s backlist quite yet but it will happen and something tells me it’s gonna be a ride I will not easily forget!

Elodie Palmer is the Baker and owner of Dee’s Sweets. She is a closed off woman, who has some deep seated secrets. Elodie does seem to melt a little at the persistence of a certain man.
Can Cruz use his honest cowboy ways to win the heart of a strongly independent woman in Elodie? Can they open up and show each other their truths?

Walker Rose has done it again. She always has a way of writing the most swoon-worthy men that makes you fall in love for them and this little lovely small town romance! Elodie has secrets from her past that seem to make their way to the present....so OF COURSE Cruz will come in a save the day! Can't wait to continue this series!

This is the story of MMC Cruz and FMC Elodie. This is a reverse grumpy/sunshine, where Elodie is the one who wants nothing to do with Cruz. Cruz has a reputation as a flirt, but he is into Elodie and works hard to prove himself. Elodie is very guarded and secretive about her past. There is enough banter, secrets, and suspense to keep the story interesting and engaging. Tim Paige and Kelsey Navarro did a terrific job with the audiobook narration, they voiced the characters appropriately and brought their emotions to life.

I really fell for Cruz and Elodie in this small-town romance about putting yourself out there for love. Cruz has been flirting with Elodie for a long while, as he has wanted more than just an acquaintance. But she hasn’t given an inch. In fact, she shuts him down so hard, and it was actually kind of harsh, that he does a 180, and drops all of his easygoing flirty behavior. Yet she wasn’t prepared for the feelings that came up once he took his affections away. She’s been burned in that past, getting involved with a man who didn’t treat her right and manipulated her emotions. To say she’s gun-shy is an understatement. She has secrets from her past she doesn’t want anyone to know about and her potential feelings for Cruz scare her.
Cruz’s patience with her as they begin to get to know each other and navigate the new feelings had me swooning. He gave her the time she needed so she could feel safe. loved how honest Elodie was with her feelings, wanting more from him. And when Elodie’s walls started to come down and she shared her past with him, his protective streak that came out is what we all want in our lives. These two are perfect together.
The duet style narration by Kelsey Navarro-Foster & Tim Paige brought this story to life.
Navarro-Foster has a voice that really works for Elodie’s character, bringing her inner strength and yet with a dash of vulnerability. Paige’s portrayal of Cruz is perfect in its playful flirtatiousness while adding an emotional depth that shows Cruz’s vulnerable side.
This is the first book I’ve read by Walker Rose and I will definitely be reading more.

Just the word flirt was enough to make me sign up for this ARC.
The strongest part of the book is the banter between the main characters. Elodie brings attitude and confidence that make her fun to follow while Cruz leans into the classic charming but broody love interest energy. Their back and forth is playful and engaging at the start and the small-town setting adds a cosy backdrop that works well for a romance built on tension and proximity.
Where the story loses a bit of steam is once the emotional tension starts giving way to predictable romance beats. The conflict feels somewhat repetitive and the characters occasionally rely on familiar tropes instead of deeper development. What begins as sharp chemistry slowly softens into something a little more routine which makes the middle portion drag slightly.
That said it’s still a quick, entertaining read with a likable cast and a light atmosphere. If you enjoy banter heavy romances with a touch of small-town charm and low stakes drama, it definitely has its moments. I also didn't read the book before but was able to follow through this book.
Overall: a cute, flirty romance that’s enjoyable in the moment even if it doesn’t leave a lasting impression.

What begins as sharp chemistry slowly softens into something a little more routine which makes the middle portion drag slightly.
That said it’s still a quick, entertaining read with a likable cast and a light atmosphere. If you enjoy banter heavy romances with a touch of small-town charm and low stakes drama, it definitely has its moments. I also didn't read the book before but was able to follow through this book.
Overall: a cute, flirty romance that’s enjoyable in the moment even if it doesn’t leave a lasting impression.

Walker Rose writes my favourite cowboy romances and Whiskey Flirt is definitely no exception. Although this one has a smaller focus on the actual ranch work, this couple may have the best chemistry yet. Elodie is a baker running from her past and she tries to hide things so her family doesn’t worry about her, and as someone with “eldest daughter syndrome” this hit pretty hard. Cruz has his own struggles with his tough childhood but got taken in by Mae and is now a literally sweetheart. She sees in as a flirt (duh it’s the name of the book), but truly he doesn’t actually go out with many people, and has been pining after her for a couple of years now. When he sees that the flirting clearly isn’t working he switches to a more supportive approach, as he’s determined to prove to her that he is trustworthy. Honestly Cruz is covered in green flags and I loved him so much. Their romance was so fun, lots of fluff as he tries to earn her trust, but also some fun spicy “fvck it” moments when she can’t hold herself back anymore. Yes there’s a minor third act breakup bit, but honestly it set up for literally the most adorable but also very emotional act of grovelling ever so I’m not even mad about it. The characters went through lots of development, Elodie especially, and the ending was so beautiful. I can’t wait to see what’s next in the Foster House series! I give this a 4.5/5

Whiskey Flirt was still a really enjoyable read, but compared to the first book it just did not completely pull me in the same way. I still had fun with it and there were definitely moments that made me smile, but I never felt fully obsessed with the romance or emotionally attached the way I wanted to be.
The chemistry between the main characters was cute and playful, and I liked their dynamic overall, especially the flirty banter and stubborn back and forth moments. They definitely had some sweet scenes together and I could see why they worked as a couple, but at times the relationship felt a little rushed for me emotionally. I wanted a bit more depth before everything started falling into place.
I did still really enjoy being back in the Foster House world though. The family interactions and small town atmosphere continue to be one of my favorite parts of the series. Those moments honestly kept me the most invested because they make the books feel cozy and connected in a really fun way.

This is book two in the Foster House series and I am in love with it. Elodie is back in town trying to start over with her bakery while keeping her past hidden, and Cruz has been right there, already drawn to her and wanting more even when she keeps her distance. As they start working together between his distillery and her bakery to get ready for a street fair, their connection grows stronger. What starts as him showing up for her slowly turns into something deeper as everything she has been hiding begins to surface and they have to decide if they can trust each other and take that next step.
I loved this so much. The suspense was just the right amount and kept me hooked without making me anxious. Knowing what she was hiding had me glued to the story, and I kept waiting for her to finally let him in and ask for help. Cruz was everything, the way he showed up for her and put everything on the line made me melt. Their chemistry, the tension, and the way they built trust felt so real. I really enjoyed Elodie and Cruz’s story. They have this wonderful chemistry and connection and were completely swoon worthy together.

This one had such cozy small-town vibes and I really enjoyed it. I loved the whole bakery-meets-distillery setting, and Cruz Foster completely won me over. He’s charming, hardworking, and the way he keeps showing up for her in the little moments made the romance feel really genuine.
I also liked that the story had more depth than just the flirtation. Both characters carry some baggage, and watching them slowly open up to each other made the relationship feel real and emotional.

Walker Rose delivers a beautiful story with Whiskey Flirt! Cruz and Elodie had me invested in their story very quickly and it was one I enjoyed from start to finish.
Sweet Cruz definitely captured my heart. He was kind, patient and so supportive. It definitely felt like a full circle moment because what do you mean the young guy we first met in Bourbon Lullaby is now this swoony hero. Elodie also captured my heart. While her past wouldn’t let her get away, she was definitely trying to make lemonade out of these lemons. She was so strong but there was something beautiful about seeing her being vulnerable and opening up to Cruz.
Together, they built the beautiful connection that was accompanied by hot chemistry.
And as for the audio:
Kelsey Navarro Foster and Time Paige brought Elodie and Cruz to life in a superb manner. You could feel all the emotions and tension in their voices. Listening to the audiobook while reading elevated my experience and made it an enjoyable read that I couldn’t stop listening to.

Whiskey Flirt brings us back to Huckleberry Springs for Cruz Foster’s story, the charming distillery owner and rancher who has been quietly pining after the town’s mysterious baker, Elodie Palmer. Elodie has returned to town hoping for a fresh start, determined to focus on her bakery and keep her past buried. And I don’t know why, but at some point I kept calling her Eloise in my head…
Going into this book, I had pretty high expectations because I was so curious to see Cruz and Elodie after meeting them in the previous book. A small glimpse of their dialogue immediately made me curious about this couple, so I came into this story with some anticipation.
Cruz’s care and interest in Elodie were definitely one of the highlights. Their banter starts off slow but gradually develops into something sweet. Cruz’s charm and flirtation—though he tries to restrain himself so as not to scare Elodie—makes their interactions entertaining and sweet. Elodie, on the other hand, doesn’t open up easily and often responds with evasive, short answers, which gives their dynamic a guarded and slow start. But once Elodie realizes that Cruz truly cares about her and genuinely wants to get to know her as a partner, her walls slowly begin to come down.
Watching Cruz earn Elodie’s trust was really sweet, especially because he never pushes her to open up before she’s ready. At the same time, Elodie becomes a safe space for him as well, encouraging him to share parts of his own difficult past. It was nice to see how well they fit together despite their somewhat rough start and the feeling, at first, that they didn’t have much in common.
However, the story didn’t quite live up to all the expectations I had for this couple./b> Both characters have complicated pasts they’re trying to keep hidden, and I expected that aspect to be explored a bit more deeply. Instead, some of the emotional development felt rushed, and the pacing in the middle slowed down while relying on a few romance tropes. While I enjoyed these elements, unfortunately, the way they were handled didn’t fully convince me.
Another thing I noticed was that some of the intimate scenes felt a bit abruptly cut or closed off, without really giving the moment time to settle or fully develop.
I also found myself wishing we had seen more of Cruz’s year-long flirting that’s mentioned in the story. Seeing that build-up on page could have created a stronger slow burn and added more depth to their relationship. Instead, since we’re thrown straight into the dynamic, it sometimes felt like something was missing or slightly rushed.
That said, it’s still a quick and enjoyable read. The characters are likable, the banter is entertaining, and the low-stakes drama keeps the story moving. Even if it didn’t leave as strong an impression on me as some of the previous books in the series, it was still a cute small-town romance that I had a good time with.

This book was all about how a character's past doesn’t define them. I truly adored Cruz and Elodie, both had past trauma that they were trying so hard to overcome. They were so deserving of each other and their HEA was a slow burn but a welcome one 🩷
Cruz Foster 😍 I am so obsessed with him. He’s naturally flirty but he isn’t a player. He cares so much about what people think of him. Learning about his past broke my heart, I just wanted to hug him and never let go.
He is a sweetheart, and has a massive crush on Elodie. So much so that he hasn’t been with anyone else in the hopes that Elodie will just look at him as more than the whiskey distillery guy.
Cruz listened to every request Elodie made, even when she wasn’t sure what she wanted. I love how he backed off and became her friend, despite wanting her SO BADLY. He would rather have any part of her rather than nothing at all.
Elodie is such a hard worker, trying to right the wrongs of her past. She gives off major black cat vibes because she’s struggling to tell anyone the truth of her past and the fact that she’s being blackmailed.
Together, Cruz and Elodie are amazing. I loved their story.
There is no OW drama, no cheating, but a small third-act breakup. It’s resolved quite quickly and doesn’t give too much reader anxiety.

Elodie and Cruz have some great banter! He’s a flirt and she is closed off and not interested. Cruz was really pining after Elodie and the chemistry between them was so good. They both come from troubled pasts and they have their guards up but finally find love for one another. I loved the mystery to Elodie’s past and how patient Cruz was with her. They both felt like they didnt deserve happiness but when they find it in each other it is perfect for their story. I just loved these two and the side characters! This series is so fun and wholesome.

One minute I was settling in for a cozy small-town romance, and the next I was fully invested in two beautifully complicated people trying to outrun their pasts while accidentally falling headfirst into each other.
