A Spot of Tea and Sorcery #3

A Spot of Tea and Sorcery - Volume 3

Rate this book
Former Dark Sorcerer.
Professional heartbreaker.
Unfortunately, it's his own heart.

Nigel Grimm is determined to be a friend to Luna Talbot. And nothing more. He knows now that friendship is all she wants from him, and if he’s going to preserve what they have together, he must get his heart under control. Better to be her friend than to lose her entirely, right?

If only she would stop getting herself into ridiculous scrapes at every turn! Like infiltrating Lord Bruxley’s engagement party in disguise. A very, erm, attractive disguise . . .

But as the shadows of Luna’s past close in, Nigel is forced to turn to the dark magic he once foreswore. If Luna were to discover the truth of his history and his dire abilities, she would fear him above all others and flee the city altogether. Somehow, Nigel must find a way to protect the woman he loves without betraying either his heart or his secrets.

When tragedy strikes, and vulnerabilities are all laid bare, will the two of them find a place of deeper understanding? Or does disaster lurk just around the corner?

There’s a lot happening in this volume. A lot of things I adored and made me fall for Nigel Grimm even more! The man organizes is constantly looking out for Luna, protecting her even when she doesn’t know he, he organizes a party for her and he comforts her.

AND WE HAD SOME FORM OF CONTACT. Tiny progress that in a slow burn such as this one means so much.

The one sour note in this perfect volume was something that happens at the end that, while I understand why it happened, I didn’t find completely fair for Nigel.

This cozy fantasy series is a delight!

Nigel continues to long for Luna and dives into role of protector as some of her secrets come to light.

After the events of the last book, Luna’s feelings aren’t just confusing, but prompt some longing of her own. Her desires are tempered by Nigel’s hot and cold behavior and the revelation of some of his shocking secrets.

This slow-burn romance ended with an intense development I didn’t see coming, and I can’t wait to read volume 4!

If you haven't read Vol 1 and Vol 2 you shouldn't be reading this.

No spoilers :)

If you've read this far in the series, then you understand how these books work. I'm trying to think of these as individual episodes in a show and not expect a ton each volume, but I was still disappointed when this one ended. This book ends on page 274, which actually makes it the longest of the 3 volumes so far, but still feels like it just ends too early.

After the events in the last book, Nigel has promised himself to remain "brotherly" to Luna because he thinks it is what she wants... how long will that last?? You'll have to see for yourself. It gets a little frustrating but at the same time I get it based on everything that he's overheard and how things has gone. Luna is still guarded, even in her thoughts, so I can see how it's hard for Nigel to understand what she feels.

There are 4 or 5 distinct "scenes" in this book, which I liked all of the ideas in them and the storylines, but some of them seemed a bit more drawn out then they needed to be. One if them is a side story of Luna's tea reading that shows why being a tea witch can lead to stress and guilt. I liked that storyline as well as all the others, but due to how long some of the scenes were, I bumped this one down to 4 instead of 5 stars. I was wishing for just a bit MORE at the end of this story. There were other things I wished were longer - such as conversations between Nigel and Luna.

I do like how they addressed the issue of trust because I wondered about trust since Volume 1. That will make things very interesting going forward.

I've decided to wait on Volume 4 and 5 until Volume 6 is released. That way I won't be caught waiting at the end of each read. Overall I still enjoy the series, the characters, the storyline and the cute and cozy feel... but I read fast so it's hard to wait!

I do wholeheartedly agree, Mr. Grimm! After taking such pains to remain the perfect gentleman, it IS grossly unfair of your body to betray you like this.
So, please, don't mind us just giggling and re-reading and re-reading!

I snagged the first volume in this series after doing my due diligence to ensure that it wasn't pending release. I even fully noted that the series was scheduled for rapid release starting in April 2026. Which was perfect since I found these books in May 2026.
I did NOT, however, notice that the final volumes don't drop till August and it has been simultaneously the biggest mistake and the best thing I could have possibly done!

I'm staggered that these books don't have more reviews. I'm staggered that these books aren't EVERYWHERE.
They are fresh and beautifully written with a distinct voice. The characters are absolute perfection. The world is lush. The humor and banter is just perfect to catch you just off guard so you snigger a little like Mr. Grimm at realizing the battleax stubbornness runs in the family, then reread it so you can laugh properly!

And the longing?
The longing!
HOW does one write such spectacular longing with no spice?
Apparently, one must be Sylvia Mercedes.

Do yourself a favor... read these.
And don't wait till they have all dropped...you are missing out on what is one of the most unexpectedly delightful reads you'll find this year!

I really, really love this whimsical slow burn romance between a dark sorcerer Nigel Grimm, and a naive young woman, a tea witch, Luna Talbot. Both of them hide secrets from their past, Nigel is doing his best to turn over a new leaf so to speak, by leaving his dark sorcery behind and tending to his florist shop, the Arcane Bouquet, whilst Luna seems to be terrified of the darkness hounding her steps, and has found safety working for Nigel. He is very protective of her and she has started to depend a lot on him, so much so that in this book he is driven to use his dark powers in order to save her from an attack, and he does this in a town where sorcery is banned, and he could be killed if caught. Also in this book we get to see the many efforts Nigel makes to look after Luna when she takes ill, to look out for her when she attends a party to save a client, to share in her mourning process for her dear aunt, and even plans a surprise birthday party for her. Luna really has him wound round her little finger, but both of them are afraid to accept their feelings for one another, and the slow burn is killing me!! I cannot wait for the next Volume in this exquisite series full of tender loving feelings and so much magic and whimsy.

If one were to look up the definition of yearning in the dictionary, they would find the portrait of one Nigel Grimm. If one were to look up the definition of oblivious, they would find the portrait of one Luna Talbot. While she most certainly is aware of her own feelings for her employer, she is unaware of her employer’s grand gestures in this volume, which makes the tension between them all the more delicious (see Chapter 17 for an example of the tension of which I speak)
I think one of my favorite scenes in this book was over a cup of Limpty’s Lemon and Officer Ward, between Luna and Nigel. You’ll have to read to find out - no spoilers here!
Can we talk about the plot twist at the end too? Sylvia, I keep saying this, but I am so glad these are releasing in rapid succession. It is almost unbearable waiting the small increments of time between volumes! I could scarcely imagine waiting years!
Spiders, phantoms, parties, loss, palpable tension that I could easily slice with a cake knife, a cozy night and a vow - A Spot of Tea and Sorcery Volume 3 has it all.
Mixing Dark Sorcery, 1930s vibes, tea and a flower shop was one of the best ideas ever written into existence.

"Oh, Mr. Grimm! Our visit to the Arcane Bouquet began so pleasantly and now we are so concerned for you!" That thought is rooted in my mind. Since this is book three and I am totally commited to this wonderful place, I begin to view Mr. Grimm and Miss Talbot as my friends and am duly concerned that Miss Talbot needs a reality adjustment. As we begin, things are about the same, Mr. Grimm tries his best and Miss Talbot is confused. After the magnificent birthday party, the plot takes a more serious turn and the roller coaster really takes off! Will this sadness bring them closer??? Then Mr. Grimm, white knight that he is, does something that we cheer for, only to find Miss Talbot doesn't think like us - duh! OK, now it gets scary and we really really worry about Mr. Grimm, the past surfacing. Luna Talbot, how could you??? The closing of this episode leaves us as readers in a state of where is this going and how can we protect Mr. Grimm?! Yes, I admit it - I am definitely team Grimm!

A Spot of Tea and Sorcery Vol. 3 by Sylvia Mercedes is as they say where the plot thickens.

I couldn't think of anything else but Sylvia just gave us an apple the past two volumes, but in this volume we were able to taste the apple and feel the explosion of juice. Throughout this whole book I felt the impending thought of something going to happen in the next pages. And boy did something did. With each page, I felt the increasing tension of Luna and Nigel, both of them dancing around each other, a game with no winner.

We finally got a glimpse into the pasts of the characters, and their past only set the stage for what is coming in the future. And I fear for their future... how can one fight when the world seems to so dark? Oh, but Luna has dark on her side too. Nigel my boy, showed his true colors in this one and I can't wait to see what picture will come out with this.

If you want a book with a slow burn for daysssssss this is the one for you.

Thank you Sylvia Mercedes for the free book.

Well, some major plot advancement there!

Not sure how I missed book 3 releasing until book 4 released, but these things happen sometimes. I'm glad to see them learning each other's secrets. This was a major step forward. But it is SO FRUSTRATING having them both passionately in love but not communicating. I know that's the style, but if EVERYTHING lasts until book 6, everything is going to absolutely explode. Surely there's gotta be a release in pressure somewhere?! I mean, it's so sad that Luna doesn't even know that the simulcrants aren't even chasing her anymore. That would be such an indescribable release. But because she doesn't trust Nigel, he can't tell her that he already knows who she is, and who her family is, so he can't tell her he's already protected her. So sad!

Gosh what are they dooooing??
Why, why, why transfer his magic to her?
He knows it’s wrong and knows that she acts out of ignorance. But instead of talking to her, explaining just once, he continues in submissive obedience. It’s okay to love someone who isn’t reciprocating. Even if you know this person never will. But giving oneself up for them, no. That’s the line. And funnily enough he admits that he has done this in other ways with his ex. Does that stop him? No.

And Luna? Establishing trust does not work over control. I mean this is the person who showed you the garden on your first day of work. Trust your gut, don’t listen to whatever you got into your mind.

So. My auntie self has scolded those characters. I hope they listen to me in the next book 😂.
How involved are you in this series? Apparently very.

"Then he thought: Oh gods. Followed by: OhgodsohgodsohgodsOHGODS."
by Nigel Grimm

Were there ever any doubts that book three would be another 5-star read? Not for me.

Has Nigel once again proven himself to be the most pathetically yearning MMC in the history of cozy fantasy? Absolutely. Did I love every single second of it? Without question.

This third installment is an emotional rollercoaster filled with romantic tension, Luna discovering that *denial is a river in Egypt*, moments of pure joy, tears, and plenty of heartbreak. The slow burn is absolutely BURNING... only for everything to end in the coldest shower possible.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a very important job to do: I need to start the next book immediately.

I fully enjoyed the continuation of this series! The tension between Luna and Nigel is so thick!!!! Yet neither one is admitting their feelings out loud because of both of their pasta that are actually more connected than Luna realizes.

I am so frustrated that Nigel Grimm acts to save Luna Talbot so many times because he loves her. Yet he is only causing more harm each time. I want Nigel and Luna to get together finally but there are so many secrets from their pasta that are going to drive them apart or bring them together.

I am anticipating as much as dread the time when they will finally talk about the mutual intense feelings between them.
I cannot wait for the next volume!!!

Absolutely loved this volume!!! Volume 3 is the best one yet! Each book gets better and better. The tension, the yearning, the teasing, the glances, the care, the cuteness, and the comfort… it was all there, giving us more and more each book. This book is a little bit of a turning point for Luna and Nigel and their story and relationship. They’re noticing each other noticing each other. Big things are about to happen in their lives, and I absolutely can’t wait for the next book!! I know it’ll be even better! Excited to see what happens next! Loving these characters and this world! I have absolutely devoured this serial so far: I started reading it on KU while on maternity leave. I get so excited when it’s time for another release. I read this third volume in a day, and I didn’t want it to end!

I’ve given this book 5 stars as it has the coziest romance!! AND THE YEARNING.If you’re looking incredible yearning, look no further than Nigel Grimm and Luna Talbot!

I also appreciate that the author has evidently done some research regarding tea making and gardening, and that the magic system is unique.

I’m eagerly awaiting the next volume and telling my friends about this gem!

Such An Excellent Series

I am thoroughly enjoying this series! Great storyline with a sensuous thread woven throughout. While not overtly “steamy” the soft sexual tension between the main characters makes it even more sexually appealing that any pornographic literary portrayal could ever come close to. It also has a fair spot of whimsy and sadness that gives an air of vulnerable fragility to the main characters yet they are extremely strong and resilient. All the characters in this series are intricately crafted including the not so nice ones. Overall this book and the others in this series are a great read which I will be adding to my permanent library!

This is book three of the A Spot of Tea and Sorcery series. This is a cozy, slow burn, 1930’s vibe, fantasy romance. This book continues Luna’s story. We see more of Nigil and Luna’s interactions and feelings. The romantic tension builds and more of the mystery unravels. It pulled me in from beginning to end and held my attention. The world building is detailed and imaginative. This book has strong, well-developed characters and an interesting story line that keeps you turning the pages. I can’t wait to read more of this series. This review is based on an early review copy I was sent by the publisher, but this didn't affect the content of my review that I am voluntarily providing.

I love it! It’s the coziness like Dream Harbor books, the romantic/friendship tension of Luke and Lorelai, paired with the prim proper MMC like Mr. Carson in Downton Abbey, and a FMC that reminds of Lou from “Me Before You”.
Nigel and Luna and getting to be much better friends (who don’t know they are obviously crushing on each other). As their relationship is growing, secrets from their parts are starting to reveal that Nigel and Luna may have more in common than they know.

Volume 3 of A Spot of Tea and Sorcery collection

A swoon-worthy, whimsical bouquet of caring, heartache, magic, and fragile trust to entice the reader to enjoy a cup of tea while delighting in the romance within the pages of this book. This volume delivers all the emotions and left me wanting more. Pure, honest sweetness drips along every page, and I'm loving the complicated relationship between Nigel and Luna. I can hardly wait to read what happens next.

I just finished reading "A Spot of Tea and Sorcery Vol. 3" I enjoyed it so much .

I absolutely love this cute, cozy, and slow-burn series. Mr. Grimm has completely stolen my heart; he is clearly so in love with Luna. It was so sweet to see him there for her while she mourned her aunt, and how much he helps her and her him. I can’t wait to see their relationship grow and become something more in future installments.

I also hope we get to learn more about their pasts soon. The small details we received in this volume were very interesting, and I am already so excited for the next volume.

Volume 3 cranks it up as Nigel struggles with his feelings for Luna especially since he believes that she thinks of him only as a brother. Luna is trying to reclaim the previous feelings she has had for Nigel even as she realizes that he might be the person who makes her feel the safest.

Picking up about a week after Volume 2, this Volume has a birthday celebration, a conspiracy to save an acquaintance from a loveless marriage, and plenty of unveiling of secrets. The slow-burn is starting to heat up and with it, the possibility of world-ending events again.

Delicious romantic funny story about moving forward while running from your past

Love this story of two socially awkward, low self confide adults who should be together but can’t quite make it. Neither knows how to interpret the other’s thoughts and actions, nor do they know what to do next. In the meantime, they’re running a magical plant and tea shop when magic isn’t allowed, and both have secrets about their pasts. It’s a delicious series! Dive in. Although I am ready for a good juicy kiss - finally!

This installment continues to be a delightful mix of cosy, swoony, and twisty with snatches of humour and so very much longing. We learn a little more of the characters secrets while each remains utterly unaware of the others' feelings. There is a veritable roller-coaster ride of emotional ups and downs in this one that will leave you desperately waiting impatiently for the next one.

I received an ARC and voluntarily leave an honest review.

Reading these series is like living with these characters

I just love how this book can go from almost cloyingly sweet romance to really dark reflections on the abuse of magical power. Reading these series is like living with these characters, and the pace, the details, and the timeline are perfect for that.

4.5 ⭐ Cute continuation to the series. I really enjoyed getting to dive deeper into the magical backstories for both characters. The romance is just as sweet and innocent as the first two books. Definitely some heartwarming moments that made me sniffle. I'm looking forward to the next release!

This one was truly emotional, all the feels and get ready for the tears. We are now deep into the connection between Grimm and Luna. The heart strings truly get pulled from begining to end of this one but the attraction also kicks up a notch. I have feel so hard for this series and the characters. I continue to have a love torture relationship with the slowburn but I am so here for it. So happy for rapid release so I can keep coming back to this world and getting the HEA they deserve.
