Vampire Royalty: The Rebellion

Rate this book
Andrew Gabriel is awakened from his catatonic slumber by love's passion. His diabolical half-brother, Craven Maxwell, politically manipulates his way into the White House. Andrew realizes that this cunning predator now has access to the American presidency and will use his new position to dominate the United States and, eventually, the world. Only Andrew can end Craven's depraved schemes, but Andrew has on vulnerability-the newly found love of his life. Enter this mysterious saga where the "truth" about the "real" origin of vampires is revealed. both Andrew and Craven come from the same royal lineage. Craven thirsts for power and commits his sadistic scheme of reviving the supernatural practices used hundreds of years ago by his ancestors. Uniquely told from the viewpoints of both vampires and humans living in the future, Valerie Hoffman's Vampire royalty book series debunks many "myths" about vampires. (For instance, they don't need to drink blood. There is an alternative treatment for porphyria, the medical condition commonly referred to as vampirism by humans.) Setting her characters in real-life situations, Hoffman brilliantly writes on of the most sensual love stories of the ages.

I bought this one years ago, when I collected almost every book about vampires i could get my hands on. Recently, I had to reorganize my shelves (i.e. make room for new stuff), rediscovered this volume and thought I'd give it a try at last. What I liked about the book: it has very short chapters, giving you the impression of a very fast read, and the writing was decent.

However, the author did a poor job structuring the chapters and the plot as a whole. There are abrupt changes in locations/scenes within a chapter that would have deserved to be put into a new one to make the change more evident. Instead, I read a sentence and was confused about the completely unannounced 'jump' in time and/or space. The characters remained flat and I didn't care much about them. While the plot had its original moments, I was not sucked into the story and found that it sufficed to skim through the book without missing out on essential details.

Well, I got this book from the author, a therapist I know, and was told it was better than Twilight. Disappointed. It is definatly not!!!! I agree it is not YA, it is more adult oriented, but it is a scattered story. It jumps around and misses alot of key information. You don't fall in love with the characters, of even like them at all. I also was confused at times on her choice of words, I think she used more complicated words than necessary--trying to sound better. This is not a book I would recommend to anyone, unless really bored. I bought all 4 in the series unfortunately, so I am going to try to read 1 more. She obviously tried very hard, so will I. Overall advice, skip this Vampire series.
