Into You

Rate this book
Cheta has never really felt wanted, not by the aunt who raised her out of obligation, and certainly not by the father she only just discovered exists.

Eloran University is supposed to be a fresh start, a place where she can stay small and unnoticed while she learns how to live in a world that suddenly expanded without her permission.

Then she meets Jaye.

Jaye Wellington is everything she isn’ popular, carefree, impossible to ignore. But beneath the charm is a boy who is exhausted from pretending, from living up to a name that never truly felt like his. With Cheta, he doesn’t have to be any version of himself except the real one.

Little by little, he draws her out of her shell.

And little by little, she becomes the quiet place he didn’t know he needed.

But as their friendship deepens into something neither of them meant to feel, the life Jaye was born into begins to tighten around him, family expectations, alliances, a future already mapped out for him. And choosing Cheta could mean risking all of it.

In a world where she’s learning to believe she’s worth choosing, and he’s learning what it means to choose for himself, their hearts begin to shift in ways they can’t ignore.

A soft, slow-burning college romance about finding belonging, discovering courage, and the unexpected tenderness of being truly seen.

Thank you to Tonia Obiajulum Okonji for the e-ARC!

Into You is a college romance, but it is not just about romance alone; it is an exploration of several characters and what it means to be truly seen! I loved that the characters were mature, even though they were in their early twenties; their conversations and banter were not childish, and I adored that! The way Cheta and Jaye interacted!!! So on point! And their love story... I am beginning to think I do love the brother's best friend trope cos Cheta and Jaye, you guys!!! Their love story was well done; it was layered, it was rich, and the chemistry was spot on!!!!

I loved the way Cheta's stepmom welcomed her into the fold and family; yes, at first I was a little wary about her being nice and all, but later on, I discovered that her being nice was not an act!! Not all women have to portray the wicked stepmother act! And the writing was so easy to follow; I read it in one day! It is that good!!!

I loved the way the backstories were explored without making the love story take a back seat; it was just right! And despite the fact that I didn't like what Cheta did in every situation - her first instinct is to run, to be closed off, to ask for space - I don't like it, but I get it! And the representation of the shy, quiet girl getting her happy ever after was very appealing to me, and who knew Cheta would reform the school's playboy!!

And if I don't talk about Dabby, this review will be incomplete; initially, I was indifferent to Dabby, but towards the end, he grew on me... and I mean, which guy wants to see his guy dating his sister 😩😅.

Overall, Into You is a book well done, a book that will draw you in with every word!! By the time you are done with this book, you too would long to be called Cheta baby 🤭.

Can you imagine how all of a sudden, you are thrown into the life you didn't know you existed in. You are grappling with grief of the passing of the only family, you thought you had and in a twinkle of an eye, you discover you have another family tucked in somewhere, whose lives are way different from yours and you are expected to just fit right in.?..... That's the story of Cheta, a young girl in Uni whose life is suddenly upended by circumstances beyond her. Her life then gets intertwined with another Interesting character Jaye, who's battling with unrealistic expectations put upon him by his father, and by extension his mum, to remain a relevant Wellington.

Two people from two separate worlds collide in an explosive drama of romance and re-discovery.

⭐ This is a very interesting read that reminded me of the four walls of Uni. I wasn't adequately prepared for the level of spiciness 🌶️, I read in this book 🫣, it was initially not looking like that😁.

🩷 One character I loved in the book would have to be Aunty Been, I liked how Tonia portrayed her to be, not the typical step mother type of person. I liked that she genuinely took interest in Cheta's well-being.

⭐ Another lesson learnt is that, one should never allow anybody use you and make you a character in their own story. I liked how Jaye stood his ground and took his own destiny into his hands.

Btw, the fathers in this book were so annoying and made me wonder how a father can be so distant from their own children.

🩷 In all, love is beautiful and Into You demonstrated just that.

Well done on a beautiful writing.

ARC review

This was my first time reading the author’s work and I absolutely loved her storytelling ,emotional, engaging, and easy to connect with.

This soft college romance follows Cheta’s journey of healing, belonging, and discovering love in unexpected places. The university setting, the emotional growth, and the relationship development completely won me over and now I’ve officially added college romance to one of my favourite genres because of this book.

And can we talk about Auntie Bee?? 🥺 She was such a beautiful character and easily one of my favourites. The love and warmth she showed melted my heart. It's kind of rare to see someone in her position to be that loving.

I also really loved the emotional depth of Cheta and Jaye’s relationship.
Their relationship had it's ups and downs, misunderstanding and emotional moments, but their growth together was beautiful to see.
Jaye Wellington is that guy , so sweet and charming, him standing up for himself at the end and the decision he made showed that this guy knows what he wants and he knows what he's doing.

I really loved and enjoyed how the book explored themes of acceptance, healing, love and the courage to choose happiness despite family pressure.

And the spice?? OMG!! It was 🥵🔥😍

A totally engaging read, this is definitely worth your time, I recommend!
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read and review this book

I just finished this romance ARC and it was such an amazing read 📚✨

The story follows a young girl Cheta who is had to leave where she’s always known as home and reunite with a father she never met. Hurt, anger, and unanswered questions shape her new life.

Along the way, she meets a charming but complicated love interest Jaye, the most playful playboy in her university and their journey from attraction to love — with all the misunderstandings in between — kept me hooked.
Cheta and Jaye’s love had me all smiling, giggling and blushing so hard.

And the spices scenes😋,it had me hooked from the beginning till the very end and I loved it. It’s also explored a new light of step-mother and daughter relationship which I really liked.

This book beautifully explores family, healing, and young love. If you enjoy slow ride romance, young love, university or young adult love, you’ll surely enjoy this amazing book.

I’d definitely recommend adding this to your TBR 💕
Thank you to the author for the ARC.

One of the most amazing university romance books I have read.
I was immediately glued to the pages once I started.

The book follows Cheta, the FMC, a young girl whose life changed after the death of her aunt, new family, new school, secrets unfolding, and the need to adjust.

In the midst of all this, she met Jaye, a renowned playboy, and fell in love with him
Their love was so beautiful to read.

The spicy scenes were really spicy.
A 5-star read for me.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Thank you to the author for this ARC.

Into You is a slow-burn uni romance with emotional depth. The story follows Cheta, a guarded and reserved young woman who has never truly felt like she belonged. Her life is abruptly upended when her aunt dies and she’s forced to move in with the father she never knew.

Still grappling with grief and this new reality, Cheta is enrolled in the same uni as her stepbrother, who despises her. Her plans to stay invisible and lay low, unravel when she meets Jaye, a popular playboy who is drawn to her and also happens to be her stepbrother’s best friend.

On the surface, Jaye seems to have it all together, but that confidence is just a façade. Beneath it lies a young man weighed down by crushing family expectations. From the moment he notices Cheta, he’s drawn to her quiet presence. Ignoring his best friend’s warnings, he pursues a friendship with her that slowly becomes a safe space.

What starts as friendship gradually evolves into something deeper, forcing both of them to confront questions of identity, belonging, but will they be able to choose love in the face of personal and social pressures that threaten to suffocate them?

I enjoyed reading this book. While both characters appear very different on the surface, peeling back the layers reveals that they’re both struggling with self-belonging and identity albeit in very different ways. The book beautifully explores belonging, self-worth, grief, loss, familial expectations, and the courage it takes to choose love.

I enjoyed the author’s writing style; the short chapters were chef’s kiss, the characters acted their age, and even though this was a slow burn romance, the story was engaging. Definitely worth checking out.

Side Note:
😅 I liked the uni backdrop. The students were crazy.

🥴 Award for best in overthinking goes to Cheta. That girl stressed me out.

🌚 Dabby pissed me off for most of the book, but I wasn’t surprised because his frontal lobe has fully developed.

🥰 Cheta’s stepmom was a breath of fresh air. It was refreshing to read about a stepmom that wasn’t evil.

🥴 Both fathers? Absolutely mad.

🌚 And Jaye’s mum? Using your son as a bargaining chip to secure your place in a man’s life is just insane. I see death by high blood pressure in her future.

🤔 I would’ve loved to know more about what Cheta discovered in her mum’s journal about her father.

Imagine being introduced to a family you never knew existed.

Shortly after losing her aunt, Cheta is suddenly welcomed into a world she never imagined, a wealthy father she never knew, a luxurious home filled with maids, and a stepmother who surprisingly treats her with kindness.

Growing up wasn’t easy for Cheta. She never knew who her father was, and her childhood was anything but smooth. But everything changes when she moves in with him. For the first time, she experiences life as a rich kid comfort, prestige, and access to a school she didn’t even know existed.

There, she meets Jaye.

The school’s golden boy.
Rich, popular playboy, every girls dream, her stepbrother’s best friend.

Unknown to her, Jaye is more than just a playboy. Under the charm he was just a young man suffocating under his father’s expectations.
Watching him navigate his father’s expectations added emotional depth to the story.

Another thing I deeply appreciated was the representation of high blood pressure in young people. So many youths live with it unknowingly, assuming it’s a condition reserved for old age. The story handled that reality in a way that felt important and necessary.

The book beautifully explores themes of: Loss, Betrayal, Love, Infidelity, Family expectations, Polygamy, Health awareness and other beautiful themes.

It’s emotional, dramatic, and layered with real life issues that make the characters feel human.

Going into it I thought it contained much spice as typical with young adults books but the spice is nothing new.

A 3.8/5 ⭐️

Thank you for the e-arc copy

This book felt less like a summary of events and more like an emotional experience I lived through.
Cheta’s journey from feeling unwanted, to trying to find her place in a world that never really made space for her was deeply emotional. And Jaye… a boy who looks like he has it all together but is quietly falling apart under expectations. Their connection was soft, slow, and very intentional.

What stood out to me most wasn’t just their romance, but how they became safe spaces for each other without even trying too hard.

But let me be honest… this book tested my patience in the best way
Because just when things start to feel like they’re settling… life and expectations step in.
And that ending???

The author ended it on a cliffhanger and I was honestly in disbelief

Like I just sat there staring at my screen for a minute thinking, “wait… that’s it?”
It left me shocked, frustrated, and very emotionally attached to these characters.
This is a story about love ,choice, timing, identity, and what you’re willing to risk for someone who feels like home.

This is by far the best University love story I have seen in a book. This was not also just a love story but a book with lessons on family dynamics because it dives into family and love in a thoughtful manner with each theme teaching different lessons. The family dynamics showed how different structures and wounds can lead to the same emotional impact. It highlighted how multiple people can be victims of the same mistakes in different ways. The love story felt like a lesson in choice and safety. It wasn’t dramatic, but intentional about being seen, being honest, and choosing to show up as yourself. Where the families represented inherited pain, Cheta and Jaye love for each other showed the possibility of healing.. I loved reading this book. I can’t wait for the other books in this series

Arc Review...

This read is one of those slow-burn college romances that sneaks up on you and suddenly you’re emotionally wrecked in the best way.
Cheta comes to university hoping to stay invisible, carrying years of feeling unwanted. Then she steps into a romance with Fesojaye that is built in soft steps and charged pauses. Friendship first, then something heavier, warmer, impossible to ignore.
I loved how this story balances tenderness with heat. It’s about belonging, learning your worth, and the thrill of being truly seen by someone who looks at you like you matter. Tonia’s writing is immersive and sensual without rushing; every glance and moment stretches just long enough to make your heart race.
Huge thank you to for the ARC opportunity this felt intimate, addictive, and beautifully written.
Soft touches. Dangerous eye contact.
A slow burn that absolutely delivers. 🔥
Can't wait to see what more spice 😋 Tonia has up her sleeve in the next coming series 😉💖💫

Into You by Tonia Obiajulum Okonji is the kind of college romance that gives more than just butterflies. Set against a Lagos backdrop where money, class, and luxury quietly shape everything, this story seems to carry both softness and emotional depth. What really stood out to me is that it is not simply about romance for romance’s sake. It feels like a story about belonging, courage, and what it means to be seen in a way that changes you.

There is also something very compelling about the premise of being thrown into a life you did not even know existed. That alone gives the story an edge, because it suggests that beyond the romance, there is discovery, adjustment, and emotional growth.
This is one of those books that wraps tenderness around deeper personal questions, and I love when a romance does that well.

If you enjoy college romance with a touch of softness, a sense of emotional awakening, and characters trying to find where they belong, Into You is a really promising read

This is my first time reading Tonia's work, and I must commend how natural her writing is. Into You was a quick read for me. It follows the love story of Cheta, a girl who has never really experienced being wanted all her life, and Jaye, the golden boy who seems to have it all. Keyword, "Seems."

The characters weren't exactly likeable but most of them were tolerable. I found Cheta bold and interesting at first, but as the story progressed, she gradually started coming off as childish to me, and liking her personality, and understanding her and the decisions she made eventually turned into a struggle for me.

My favourite character was Aunt Bee. She was the complete opposite of what I thought she'd be. I love how gentle and understanding she was towards Cheta.
Overall, it was a good read. Big thanks to the author for gifting me this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Into You is actually the first Nigerian themed college romance I've read (it was very worth it), and as someone who values books thst relate with regular people and their everyday emotions, this book hit deep for me. Being able to relate with the main character made reading this book fun and enjoyable.

And if you're a sucker for finding one's self, family drama, and most importantly love and romance (of course), this book comes in highly recommended.

A fresh take on the African romance trope.

Drama and unhinged family members aside 😑, Cheta and Jaye’s story made me want to fall in love 🥲❤️‍🩹. Tonia just has a way with words that makes you feel connected to the characters. You will literally feel like entering the story 😂. If I could erase my memory and read this all over again, I would. She delivered, as usual. Can’t wait to read her next piece 🥰❤️‍🔥.

It’s crazy how much one person can change your entire life just by opening your eyes to see what you’ve been missing before. In choosing Cheta, Jaye chose himself and honestly, what better way to define love than such brazenness?

I applaud the author for her take on real love
